Behold The TOY STORY 3 Trailer In GloriouS QuickTime (HD)!!

Published at:  Oct 12, 2009 12:45:28 PM CDT

Merrick here...

A trailer for TOY STORY 3 is accompanying the current 3-D re-release of the first two films in the franchise & has now been posted online in all forms of Glorious QuickTime.

If you've only seen this trailer in its smaller form (or in the shakey cam iteration that has been making the rounds over the past week or so), I urge you to check out this material out in all of its glory here.

There are some wonderful details to behold (love the Disney/Pixar branding on Buzz's ass, for example). You also get a nice sense of the film's revised aesthetic, which seems softer focused to me than the previous installments.

My toddler is absolutely, 100% batty for the TOY STORY films. When he sees them he holds his Buzz Lightyear action figure heroically to the sky and shouts "Infinity beyond!" Can't wait to take him to this...

Follow Woody...

Here's a tip on how to pay less for 3D movies!

    by orionsangels

SAVE THE 3D GLASSES!!! That's the key here folks. Once you have a pair of the 3D glasses. You'll pay regular price for 3D movies! Here's what you do, pay Regular price to see Toy Story 3. Once inside theater. Walk into the 3D version of Toy Story 3. Take the 3D glasses out of your pocket, purse or whatever and enjoy Toy Story 3 In 3D! At regular Price. Why pay extra just to rebuy 3D glasses and they're recycled. So who knows who else wore them. Eew gross!

    by squashua

Yes. YES. This is what happened to all my MotU and Ninja Turtles figures - my mom's kindergarten class took them. The other alternative would have been for Andy's mom to have saved them and put them away and Andy's kids could play with them when they come and visit Grandma.

And not in the fun way. I've lost all faith in Pixar since the triple disappointments of Cars, Wall-E and Up. I had high hopes for the quasi-Pixar John Carter of Mars, but then they hired (shudder) Gambit.... Still, maybe they can pull themselves out of the slump. (I know all those who thought Wall-E and Up were instant classics will balk at my pissiness, but you have no taste, so balk away, you square-eyed cretins!)

    by ccchhhrrriiisssm

Are you angry that John Ratzenberger isn't a socialist? He didn't say, "FUCK THE POOR." That is just your own propaganda. I agree with John: Somewhere along the line, a lot of people got the idea to start honoring failure and laziness through government bailouts and welfare that is extended to people who refuse to take care of themselves. It takes a lot of guts to say that in an industry that vilifies anyone who takes a look at policy based upon logic rather than hysteria-inspired Obamaganda cheerleading. That said: This movie looks GREAT! I am glad that Pixar didn't just go along with Disney's early script. This looks like it will be much more poignant than the failed Disney attempt. Classic Pixar!

    by chewtoy

And as for Ratzenberger being a conservative... so what? I may totally disagree with him on politics (I really have no idea if I do or not), but I've never understood why some people get so worked up that celebrities don't share the same views as they do. I figure, if someone's famous and wants to lend support to a cause, more power to 'em. Nobody's being forced to listen to their personal views. I see no reason to demonize or boycott an actor of any political persuasion because they dared to take a stand I disagree with.
Likewise, I find "South Park" hilarious, but I've never really understood the offense they take at celebrity causes.

First off, I really don't care. But hey, I always get a teeny little bit of respect for any Hollywood actor who isn't of the same political mind of every other one. He's also the host of a show that celebrates local American businesses that manufacture their own items. Don't see anything wrong with that. Hell, most of the places on that show are probably union factories.Honestly, I like people thinking whatever the hell I want. When he makes such an innocuous comment merely suggesting he's not liberal or democrat or whatever and gets a "fuck you", it doesn't seem like a very fair reaction to me.

This new modern 3D was rushed out the door, to get more people to go to the movies. Thanks to quick dvd/bluray movie releases, ondemand services and torrents. People are going less and less to the movies, to make up for it. They charge you more perticket and therefore make up the difference. It's all a scam!

    by henrydalton

The beginning of the trailer really worked for me - as someone who was pretty young when the first film came out, it was actually kind of odd seeing Andy grow up like that - I guess that must be a bit like what the new generation are getting with the Harry Potter films, only Andy seemed a bit less plastic-y. The jokes when the more upbeat part of the trailer started though didn't really hit home for me though, which was a little worrying. Fuck it, it'll be great though, it's Pixar AND it's Toy Story. It'll be good.

And of course everything else just looked and felt RIGHT. Which is the most important thing with Toy Story, the world and it's characters being just so are just as important as whatever the story will be. Spanish language Buzz had me guffawing heartily!

    by themovielover

Director Lee Unkrich announced some stuff via twitter just now. The most interesting I think is the recasting of Slinky Dog. He's now being voiced by Blake Clark. He's in a ton of Sandler movies. You might best know him as the crazy cajun guy in The Waterboy. Turns out he was also good friends with Jim Varney. So there ya go, that's who's doing the voice. No unused takes by Varney.

    by ghostcuster

I can't believe that an 18 year old would still have a chest full of his childhood toys, parked in the middle of the room. Ok maybe Buzz Lightyear would sit on a shelf because that's vaguely in the same vein as man-child toys like Star Wars or Transformer figures. But the baby toys like Mr. Potato Head, little bo peep, the t-rex, the baby blocks, weiner dog would have been boxed up and put in the basement a long time ago. So why this Andy moving would come as a disappointment to Woody doesn't make sense because it would have been like 5 years since they have been played with. But disney has to sell a movie, so they have to come up with a contrived plot to make it.

    Question

    by toshiro-solo

I watched the double feature this weekend (awesome, BTW) and it made me notice something I hadn't necessarily noticed before. If Woody is an old toy - presumably made in the 50's when his TV show was on, and he was popular, before Sputnik launched and the show was cancelled, then he HAD to have had some owners before Andy, right? Jessie remembered her past owner, so it's not like you can just explain it away by assuming that the toys only have limited memories... How come Woody didn't remember his fame? He must have been purchased when he was still a big deal, right? Hmmmm.......

The animation of the humans were always the weakest part of Toy Story 1 & 2, and of course there weren't the focus, but I always thought it detracted from things a bit. Obvously renderman has come a long way.. they are so much more convincing than they used to be. I thought the reset button gag was awesome. My TS3 prediction

    by darthvedder81

TS1 and TS2 were both (albeit in different ways) about abandonment and rejection. TS3 will be about letting go, moving on with life and accepting change. I predict the toys will escape the daycare but then come to the realization that trying to hold onto the past is futile. They'll go BACK to the daycare on their own where they will be loved by children for infinity. Then we'll all weep.

He STILL looks pretty amazing, truth be told, especially when Woody is trying to retrieve his severed arm from Al's shirt pocket. The detail on his face is incredible, right down to the nose hairs.

And as for bring Mira Nova into the series, Monkey_King...

    by nasty in the pasty

...didn't you notice that Buzz was totally flirting with Jesse at the end of TS2 ("Aren't you the sweetest space toy I ever met!")? They'll be a couple in TS3, no doubt. And what about Andy's younger sister, Molly? Shouldn't she be about 12 or so by the time Andy heads off to college? Still an age where kids play with toys. Why doesn't Andy just leave Woody, Buzz and the gang to her?

We still really know nothing about the plot

    by natecore

this trailer hit absolutely every perfect note for me and on top of that my mind is racing on what exactly will happen in this thing. I'm freaking out b/c there is no way Pixar isn't going to make a perfect film here. I'm so giddy.

    Premise

    by gibsonusa returns

In my opinion the premise makes sense. The trailer does not show us everything, obviously. I dont see anything unbelievable about an 18 yr old still having toys hanging around his room. It doesnt mean he still plays with them, but sometimes you just leave stuff somewhere and it just sits there. OR, maybe the mom brings the toychest into the room at some point from the basement...we dont know...its only a trailer.
The point is that when the mom mentions the old toys, Andy isnt even looking in that direction, but is rather focused on his laptop, it rings true.

Typical no-life virgins that will say anything over the internet to be against the grain. You can't hate on Toy Story and that's just fact. Anyone with a soul who grew up in the 90's sees Toy Story as one of the defining movies of their childhood. Toy Story 3 looks like it will be the shit and I'm fucking pumped to see it. The first half of the trailer is Pixar working their magic.

    laugh

    by judgemuffin

I don;t think I have ever laughed at a triler so hard before, especially one that has such high expectations and so beloved....quality. Toy Story was the first film myself and my girlfriend went to see together, it was on the same night in the UK as Trainspotting was released. As we queued we waited for the call, knowing we were going to be embarassed as the cool kids went to see Trainspotting. When Tspott was called no one moved from the queue and when Toy Story was called everyone went for it...that girl is now my wife and we laughed a lot at that trailer last night...can't wait

i just saw the re-release this weekend and i realized that, like you, i was mistaken all along: Woody (nor the others) is NOT the actual puppet used in the show. he is the tie-in merchandise, just like the yo-yo. so while woody has memories from previous owners (he's an "old family toy" according to mom), he wouldn't remember being on the show, because he wasn't.

This will be another winner for Pixar, they aren't batting 1000, but pretty close to it

I wonder if TS3 will give a backstory on the absentee father? I wonder if Andy's mom will provide some nice stroke-it fodder.

    The Brave Little Toaster...

    by the_crimson_king

has anyone noticed how the basic plot is similar to The Brave Little Toaster? Andy is all grown up and heads for College and the Toys set out to find him, pretty similar except it's toys instead of appliances and instead of just leaving a house they're escaping from a daycare, I'm not complaining though because The Brave Little Toaster fucking rocks and I love that Pixar seems to be giving it a shout out
