Nothing about Curb is not awesome,

    by wandering_prophet

There's no reason this shouldn't be the happiest thread ever. It's one of the most consistantly awesome shows on TV in the last 10 years. Consequently, you know how David downplays his real-life comparisons to the character. I know an actress who worked with him on a movie, they went out to dinner with 12 people, the orders took to long, David then stood up and strolled into the kitchen where he argued with the staff for almost 25 minutes. He was then the last a the table to be served and confronted the waiter and then the manager once again. She said the rest of the dinner was very civil and cool, and so was David for the most part, but don't let him beat around the bush, Larry David IS Larry David. The movie was made between last season and this one, maybe the situation will surface on the show, that would be awesome.

Man if you quit at season 3 you missed what was probably the best season in season 4 (although this new one is damn funny so far). In 4, Mel Brooks hires David to take over the role of Max Biyalistock in the Producers on Broadway. Larry being Larry, manages to alienate and run off his first costar, Ben Stiller, before nearly driving his second one, David Schwimmer, to madness. The final episode of that seasom is great, but also served as the last performance of Mel Brook's real-life wife, Anne Bancroft, who was already sick at that point but wanted to do that with her husband before she died. Great ep., excellent season, and if you dig on the show you should definitely seek it out.

Man, I can't decide if you're joking, serious, or just another AICN TB'er who likes to go on various TB's just to start some dookie. Either way, if you haven't heard of Larry David, co-creator/mastermind behind Seinfeld, creator/mastermind of Curb Your Enthusiasm which has been one of the funniest, most acerbic-witted shows on television over the last decade, then you've either been living in a cave in the mountains of Arkansas, don't watch television at all, or just don't belong in the TV TB's. I'm pretty sure you're just joking, but hey, it's the net, where sarcasm doesn't translate well.

    by crow3711

I figure most people who don't enjoy Curb aren't the type of people I want to get to know terribly way anyway. If that humor isn't your thing, it probably means you take life a little too seriously for me. Either way, Larry David might be the funniest motherfucker on the planet.

However, i've heard good things about the season with the black family (or maybe it's the Black family - i'm not too sure?) and now this one.I'll check out season four. Pretty laughable if you think curb got hbos highest ratings in 5 years. Read that one again. "curb" got it's highest ratings in 5 years. Last weeks season finale of entourage got higher ratings than last weeks Seinfeld curb. He'll, true blood has like 5 times the viewers as curb. The sopranos destroyed all of them. Heck, big love, and the now demised six feet under got better ratings than curb. Curb averages a million viewers which isn't bad for premium cable

    by coughlins laws

just great in seeing the 5 principles of Seinfeld back together. However, this last episode wasn't that great. And I'm not sure I want to see Rosie O'Donnell next week. So far, though, I haven't seen a bad episode of this show yet. It's ranged from very funny to hysterical. There were a couple of episodes in Season 6 that weren't great, but it's the most consistently funny show I've seen since, well, Seinfeld...

I'm a longtime Curb lover as well as hard core Seinfeld fan. Having said that, this season has been off to a slow start. I really liked the Seinfeld episode last week and was hoping they would all be in the rest of the episodes.
I'm finding this year that LD is starting to argue with anyone about anything. It used to be that he found himself in situations that would lead to an argument but this year it seems he's going out of his way to argue and it seems forced. I still love the show but I think it's starting to develop a few cracks.

    by tenenbaum

LD's outbursts usually stem from some sort of injustice or someone else being unreasonable. This episode he was just a straight up dick: telling Sammie to stop singing and then getting mad bc the Dansons took someone else to dinner. I was hoping the Seinfeld cast would be more heavily involved this season. So far 4 eps in and they've made one appearance and next wk's ep seems to center around Rosie.

Him yelling at the girl. Priceless. Commenting on people who don't like curb, it think they don't like the real life humor it often presents. There is no official script to the show most if not all of it is adlib, so you get conversations between an asshole and everyone else.

If you did sit at home and jerk off to Mad Men. At least your be jerking it to something worthwhile. And tons and tons of people watch Curb. And being around for 6 seasons doesn't exactly qualify it as a "hip comedy", more like a sanctuary from those lame, hip comedies. Get some knowledge my man. Don't you get tired of going on every single talkback and having every other person tell you how dumb everything you say is? Doesn't that shit get old?

I agree with much of what you said. I was telling that to my wife about last season. A lot of it felt forced and not believable. The first 2 episodes this year were golden. Last nights felt forced. The switch blade/car blowjob was a perfect episode. Everything flowed. When the show forces Larry to argue and do over the top fighting with friends of his it becomes way less funny. Also no Leon is always a disappointment. Next week looks like more of the same forced arguing and not acting like even a neurotic Larry David would act. Still love the show.

my only problem with new Curb....

    by rocklobster800

is that they actually make Larry more of an asshole that he started out as. In the first four seasons I always felt that Larry was always in the right and it was the people around hiim who were the dicks-he was frustrated at the world but never vindictive, and a lot of the trouble he got into was through genuine mistakes. I mean in episodes like "Beloved Cunt" and the Dolls Head and the majority of those opening seasons Larry does nothing wrong (or nothing that we all would actually like to do ourselves-like complain about the wait at doctors offices) but he always got screwed over by the world around him. From series 5 onward he seems to invite it on himself-particualrly that one where he steals the flowers from Funkhouser's moms murial. I mean that kind of stuff is completely off tone with those first seasons. The show is still funny but theyre making Larry less likable....its like watching one of your friends turn into a dickhead. He might still be okay to hang around with but occasionally he does things that even you find infuruating and you dont look as forward to him coming around anymore

Perfect post , I agree 100 percent. The show is most funniest when Larry is in the right but goes about proving it in the wrong way. When he is just acting like an idiot and starting trouble for no reason then the show is more about watching people argue over boorish behaviour and less about Larry David finding himself in an unintended but funny as all hell situation.
