'A Song Boasting You Are Not Afraid Of Them!' Drew Barrymore Joins The Six-Timers Club!! SNL 35.3!!

Published at:  Oct 10, 2009 10:56:18 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

I think Jimmy Fallon is married to Drew Barrymore’s producing partner. Also, he works in the building, so I’d be shocked if he didn’t turn up somewhere.

I wouldn’t put it past that Juno girl to show up as well.

But will Darrell Hammond make another guest appearance?

Regina Spektor is the musical guest:

11:30 p.m. Saturday. NBC.

Third straight weak episode. I laughed exactly once tonight and that was at the new girl's Anna Faris impression, which was spot on. This show has major problems. Many talented cast members being wasted by stupid sketches with bad writing. James Carville again? Scrooge McDuck? Really?! What is going on with Fred Armisen? His Obama accent has all of a sudden disappeared. I do think Jenny Slate shows promise.

There are too many barely-funny people who are making long careers on this show. They need more people like Andy Samberg, young and full of energy and ideas.

sometimes he gets fairly close with the impression - at least the cadence is there; his voice isn't deep enough. the weird thing, last night, it was like he just gave up even trying - he sped through the bit and sounded like an average white guy.

    by lucky_day

Fred's Obama is kind of close, that's not the problem though. His impression is just so uninteresting. The funniest SNL presidents have always been over the top or ridiculous. They didn't even bother trying to make Chevy Chase look like Ford, it was his over top pratfalls that made the skit. Dana Carvey's Bush sr. was perfect mixing impression with parody. Hell, even Will Ferrel's impression wasn't even close, but I always thought it was funny.

    by bass ackwards

Watch old clips, if they're available, of his Obama impression during the debates, he actually does a pretty good job. Which is why it's a little confusing watching him now, as someone above said, he's not even trying, not just giving up on the voice, but cadence, mannerisms, he's genuinely not doing anything. It's just watching Fred Armisen in a suit. There must be a story, maybe he just doesn't want to do Obama anymore and is trying to get fired?

Comparing Armisen's Obama to Chevy Chase's Ford or Aykroyd's Nixon? First, part of the joke of Chase's Ford is that he was playing Chevy Chase playing Ford. He didn't even try to impersonate Ford. As for Aykroyd, his Nixon impersonation was great. Just because he didn't want to shave his moustache for the show doesn't mean he did anywhere as bad of a job as Armisten.
If you can't do the political character impersonation like Armisten, you gotta be over the top so people don't care like Chevy Chase with Ford or Will Ferrell with Janet Reno. Armisten does neither.

Looks pretty blah. Tho I still get a ferocious woodie from Kristen wiig, and I'm glad she wised up and got her old nose back. Dang, I was really hoping to see Kristen revise her lesbian reporter character this year with Michaela W. as the object of her interest. That would have rocked, they had truly great chemistry together. But Lorne Michaels pooped that party real good, thanks asshole! At least Abby is coming into her own, great Anna F! - see what happens when you DON'T fire your most promising players for no reason except that you're an idiot!?

You answered your own question. Daily Show and Colbert have ALL the talented political comics based in NYC. SNL gets the rejects. Also, this season is turning into the Kristen Whig Show. Gilda got a lot of screen time back in the day, but so did Jane Curtin. The one who got shorted was Lauraine Newman. Let one of the other girls play, will you?The Italian intervier was funny the first time i saw it, when it was the Mexican DJ on "Fridays" back in the early 1980's, and the second time I saw it when Joe Piscapo did his Mexican Tom Snyder.-----later-----m

    NO MORE GILLY! PLEASE!

    by thesecondquest

Agh. I actually like at least part of SNL every week and, on the whole, enjoy it far more than most of the posts here tend to be (though I'm not a total fanantic about like Herc), but PLEASE, no more Gilly skits! They are the worst recurring character skit this decade. I'd rather suffer through another Horatio Sanz "Carol" skit than Gilly. Gilly is a skit with no punch line. The "what." "sorry." is meant to be, but it's just not funny. Then Will just repeats the same "Gilly? Gilly...? GILLY...?" bit and they use the same punch line over and over. It's a skit whose "joke" is annoying and then repetitively annoying. The only slightly funny bit about the skit is Kenan's characters. And when Kenan is the funniest thing about a skit, you know it's either in trouble or incredibly rare. Gilly is not rare. Ugh.

Yea, a little Gilly goes a long way, maybe too long.

    by rex_nimrod

I kind of agree, Gilly is probably Kristen's weakest skit, I'm surprised they brought her back so many times. But worse than the never ending "I'm Cayyyyyyrol!!!!!!!!" punishments - er, I mean skits? No I still have nightmares about that one.
I'll bet they're pushing Gilly, because it's so easy to write, it's the same dialogue every time. I hope she shelves Gilly, and brings back Penelope and Aunt Linda.
