Fresh CHUCK Back On NBC In A Few Weeks??

Published at:  Oct 09, 2009 7:14:07 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

"Chuck" Vs. NBC’s Slow Death!!

Josh Schwartz's secret-agent action-comedy, which wasn’t supposed to return until March at the earliest, may now be back with new episodes by the end of this month, according to Mike Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly.

With veteran shows like “Law & Order” and “Heroes” bleeding viewers and no new hits, the move to bring “Chuck” back to NBC early would seen a no-brainer.

"Chuck" has a 13-episode order this season, but of course the earlier air date means the network in perhaps likelier to order more installments.

    by totalhype

I'm a huge fan of chuck and hope that this is true. Having to wait to march has been killing me. It could salvage NBC's slow death at the beginning of this fall season. Chuck's fanbase may not be all that large but it's consistent and should give the network some help for whatever show they pair it with.

But it doesn't brag that it is. This is a fun escapist show that has flaws and is by no means perfect. I hope it comes back sooner and stays for a long time.

The problem is, the lineup as a whole is so weak-and the JAY LENO COST CONTROL STRATEGY A GO GO eats up so much real estate-that there's no place NBC can put it where it won't get slaughtered. Sunday's football, Saturday is reruns, and Tuesday and Thursday are locked in, leaving only Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, where NBC is sucking wind all night.

They MAY be thinking of putting it in Southlands slot since it was canceled this week before airing even 1 episode of the new season. Truthfully NBC seems to be bleeding viewers so badly I don't think it matters where they put it at this point.

That NBC did the right thing since not only does the current line up of shows suck they have nothing in the pipeline that doesn't blow, except for Chuck and Friday Night Lights. Unfortunantly nobody watches FNL the best show on TV the last few yearsWhy is it that USA Network, NBC bastard child, makes mostly decent to good and entertaining shows; yet the paraent company sucks balls? I don't know, I think it's too dark and gritty for 8pm. I would much prefer the Carson Daly Happy Hour show that someone mentioned earlier in another thread. NBC could make a forture! pay Carson in Douchebag Nozzles and Coke, set the show on the street because you can't afford a studio anymore, then commercials will make the show instantly profitable. if they average a 0.5 rating, NBC can give every exec an extra Hanukkah bonus! success!

    by jettl93

I think it might be time to say so long and farwell to mr Leno. Forking over the 10 pm time slot 5 nights a week was a mistake, and it looks like NBC might be finally realizing that. There's a reason no netwrok puts comedies at 10...because 10 is a later hour and meant for dramas. Law and order for example has always been a 10 pm show, it thrives in that timeslot, no one cares to watch it at 8 or 9

I don't like giving out personal information but I've had the worst week of my life and its now mixed. I LOVE Chuck. Please god let this be true. I'm so sick of talking myself into so-so shows (Sons of Anarchy, Fringe) or shows well past their prime (The Office, House). But the whole season of Chuck was wonderful. It's impossible to not fall in love with Sarah and NO ONE at the time saw the ending coming. My only regret is Bryce is dead. I love, love, love this show. A talkback is due enough but getting Chuck back soon. Please let this be true.

Heroes is certainly a crapfest, which is a shame given the initial response in Season 1. Chuck is NOT a great show, but it's fun and the characters are likeable. Basically, I'd much rather watch Chuck than Heroes, hands down.

    Go Chuck!

    by augustusgloop

I've been watching since hearing about it at the 'Spiral' Q&A at Fantastic Fest just before the show started. It was the beginning (along with 'Big Bang Theory' and 'Heroes') of geek-friendly shows. As someone above mentioned, Monday night is now like geek-Thunderdome. I think networks are starting to realize they've consolidated their idiot viewers to watching reality shows and the need geek-TV to draw the rest of us in.

I'm sad to see all the negativity toward Heroes. It still has a lot going for it, but it has suffered greatly from lack of direction. The writers need to get a clue and stop trying to copy story lines from the X-Men and build their own mythology. The keep developing interesting ideas and then dropping them like hot potatos. What of the cabal that included the current Heroes' parents? What happened to the 'source' of their power that Hiro's mother gave to him? (I don't believe Papa Petrelli could just steal it along with his powers). Is Mohinder dead? Can we please stop mucking around with Sylar already and just make him a good guy or get rid of him? It's boring to see him perenially as the crippled villain. They've shown that Claire's blood can heal anything, but they've never used it since when a character was dead or near-death, WHY? What happened to the little girl that Parkman and Mohinder were raising? Why is it Parkman's powers are so much weaker than his father's, who could lock people up in their own heads forever? Parkman BEAT his father at that game. EVERY time a character starts to gain skill with their powers, they're knocked back down or lose their powers. We already seeing it happen with Traci/Nicki/Jessica as she starts having trouble holding her human form. Hoping some of the writers pay attention and strengthen this show into something that lives up to it's kick-ass potential.

Chuck Vs. The Friday Death Slot?

    by saen

If Chuck comes back Monday at 8, Heroes at 9, (or heroes @ getting beat with a stick for becoming so god awful) then this is awesome. If Chuck comes back Friday at 8, and its ratings tank, because it is on a FRIDAY, then this is terrible and they will cancel it after those 13 episodes.

Chuck is simple, fun, story driven entertainment, with a kick ass soundtrack. It deserves to keep its soundtrack. And if you look at last seasons ratings, its very competitive or even > then Heroes is doing now.

What else are they gonna play every single time Chuck and Sarah confide that they have feelings for each other but know they can never be together? So far, they've used Creature Fear, Skinny Love and Blood Bank. All for the same basic scene.

Naw, the Every Night thing is reserved for Leno-Crap

    by chromedome

NBC figures if they force feed it to the audience, we'll develop a tolerance for it, get used to the foulness (like when you stop noticing the stank at the city dump after a few minutes unloading the back of the pickup). They WANT the viewers to get numb to Leno, and tolerate it.They don't want us getting numb to the one good show they have.... I can't say they are smart for bringing it back early, since they should have known better from the start. More like they are just smart enough to come in outta the rain, take their hand outta the flame.

    by jt kirk

Seems like that's what NBC is thinking here. Or maybe they're going to try to yet again mid-season retool it only to disappoint audiences with their inability to keep it from feeling like network-mangled garbage the way it has since season 2. But it'll be nice to have Chuck back, although I think NBC has lost Monday night entirely and needs to fire everybody from programming up to the top for the debacle that is their '09-'10 schedule.

But if NBC aired SAW The Series...

    by bobbyjoe

...it'd be some cheapo reality series like "Guess Who Can Saw This Log In Half" 'cause NBC is way too cheap and too shortsighted to actually pour any cash into, like, actually filming a new series with actors and writers or anything these days, even if it were it a tired horror film spin-off. They've literally picked up a night-time game show for later in the season about doing household chores. And though I wish I were, I'm not making that up.

Shouldn't they save fresh Chuck episodes

    by rob0729

for when they pull Leno from the air? It really is only a matter of time. Moving Leno to 10PM and hits like the L&Os to death slots has heen a total disaster for NBC. Everyone loses on this one other than competiting networks. It is only a matter of time before the affiliates revolt against Leno and his destroying their 11PM news ratings.
Personally, I whole heartily support a Chuck return. They could do better ratings at 8PM Mondays than Heroes at this point. BTW Heroes really needs a reboot with dumping crappy characters who haven't been remotely interesting since season 1 (Hiro and Ando anyone - This past week's episode with them was excrutiating. They should have let Hiro develop into Future Hiro from season one rather than keep him as the moron for "comic relief" that he is).

None of those songs were featured in the same way. Or perhaps you don't recall Chuck vs. The Colonel? You know, when they were MAKING OUT? You should try watching the show sometime, you're missing one of the good ones.
