Published at:  Oct 08, 2009 11:38:50 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Fox has picked up 13 episodes of “Jack and Dan,” a new hourlong action comedy from “Burn Notice” creator Matt Nix. It will star Bradley Whitford, of “West Wing” and “Studio 60” fame.

The Hollywood Reporter has the premise:

It centers on Jack, an ambitious, by-the-book cop who is partnered with Dan (Whitford), a drunken, lecherous, wild-card cop who hangs onto his job only because of a heroic act years before.

    by shabbyblue

It always seemed like it would have been a fun ongoing tv series if they replicated the movies and did some good casting.

They need to make a cop show called Jack & Diane

    by immorganfreeman

They're a couple of mismatched cops, but they have one thing in common: This crappy song.

The theme is obviously from John Cougar Melloncamp,

Are they regular cops or DETECTIVES?

    by ides

That seems to make a LOT of difference in whether a show survives or not.

    Burn Notice is a blast.

    Schiff is a possibility

he did turn up, albeit briefly, on Burn Notice. If they rush it into production, it can take Dollhouse's slot mid-season. LOL.

But also sounds idiotic in concept, just like this one does.

Many show premises sound vapid summed up like that...

    by chewtoy

Let's face it... Cop shows aren't all that high concept anyway, so they really all depend on execution. I'm happy to see something character driven from the creator of Burn Notice.

    Sounds good

    by yomomma

I was just lamenting yesterday that they have canceled or delayed all of the fun, light, funny hourlongs. It's all NCISCSI heavy bullshit with no Burn Notice or Chuck or Pushing Daisies to lighten things up. Hopefully this will fit the bill, as I love me some burn notice (though they should give the second lead to Bruce Campbell).

Sorry, but just the thought of Bradley Whitford as...

I wouldn't describe NCIS as "heavy" or "no fun". But apart from this, I agree.

And where are they gonna PUT this show?

    by annoyyou

They just cancelled Southland because Leno is hogging all the 10 pm slots with his lame geriatric show, so where will this end up? 8 pm on a Friday? NBC blows so hard now.

AnnoyYou, it's been picked up by Fox

    by big jim

However, as it is a Cop show, it's understandable you'd assume it was going to be on NBC. The sum of their scripted dramas can be summed up by the network's call letters:NursesBarristersCops

    Whitford...

    by embeedeuce

...is amazing. I'd tune in to watch that guy do a weather report. And Burn Notice is pretty good; think it's the biggest thing on basic cable right now. At least it's up there. So who knows; this has promise.

    sounds familiar...

    by jameskpolk

Didn't NYPD Blue already cover this ground? Is there no "new" way to combine these concepts and character types? What if the crusty old cop was the ambitious go-getter while the young turk is the rule-busting boozer?

Still I'll give it a chance because of the Burn Notice pedigree.
