Roman Carnage, Neil Marshall Style, In This Image From CENTURION!!
Merrick here...
Empire has a pic or two from Neil Marshall's CENTURION.
The movie speculates on the fate of Rome's reputedly 'lost' Ninth Legion*, who in this take are north of Hadrian's Wall, engaged in a bloody battle and facing a bit of trouble getting out of hostile Pict country.
...explains Empire in its article. Follow the slaughter to find Empire's article (and another image from the film)!

Marhsall, whose works seems to sharply divide Geeks (I personally thought DOOMSDAY was 1/2 cool, 1/2 really lost), was recently rumored to be the probable director of the PREDATOR sequel/reboot thingie. The gig ultimately went to Nimrod Antal. If you haven't seen Antal's KONTROLL, check it out - it's pretty interesting.

but the rest not so much.
-
Yeah it was an over the top Mad Max rip off, but it was great fun! The Last Legion which had a similar concept, also had some cool pre release images...and sucked bad - so I'll wait to hear more before I get excited. Badass Roman action is always welcome though!
-
I like all of Neil's stuff.
-
Dog soldiers 9/10
The Descent 8.5/10
Doomsday 6.5/10 -
Guess not.
-
But I thought Doomsday seemed really, really cheesy and tried way too hard to be cool. Seemed like a pretty boilerplate post-apocalyptic tale. But The Descent is one of the only movies I've ever seen that actually scared me even a little bit (I don't dig the horror genre as a whole usually), and I've always heard Dog Soldiers was pretty solid, so I will keep my eye out on this one. Not a bad production still.
-
I hope the stats get it wrong and this new one doesn't end up a 4/10 for me
-
But this already seems dated. I hope I'm wrong.
-
...but it sure smells good!
-
... but The Descent really is the best horror film of this decade. Just a perfect mix of everything that makes horror cinema great. Half cool and half lost is a good way of describing Doomsday. It was fun, though. That movie and beer are two of life's joys that should be enjoyed at the same time. More Neil Marshall goodness is always welcome. Maybe he can do for Roman action what Sam Raimi did for Westerns.

Doomsday was the only deviding aspect of his work.
by gettingbannedisfun
I think it's a sure thing to say that the majority of geeks likes Dog Soldiers and The Descent.
-
For better or worse. Since I was weaned on '80s drifter/action/horror material, I really enjoyed the nods he made. I like Marshall, I think he's going to get better too as he works more.
-
Rhona Mitras incredible slow-mo ass. All hail the lord!
-
Rome's bloody european expansion is damn fine grist for the story mill.
-
Best actor I have watched in a long while. Centurion could push him through to next level. He was great in Eden Lake and every film relesease last year and this year. The man is a fucking acting machine!
-
Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. So its automatically awesome by default. The only way it could have been better is if they also had Warriors Of The Wasteland.
-
You seen Hunger?
-
The guy is awesome.
-
only minus Russell Crowe
-
i agreeed with whoever said it before: best horror movie of this decade. can't think of any fan who wouldn't like an actual scary SERIOUS horror flick. plus the premise, although not elaborated upon, seems pretty scientifically solid. 10/10
-
I haven't seen enough of his work, but all I know is he beautifully delivered what I consider to be the absolute best line of dialogue from easily any movie this year, and possibly many previous. In Inglourious Basterds, but he was in disguise and the jig was up, as he slips from German to British, "Well, if this really is the end, old chap, I hope you don't mind if I go out speaking the King's." All of us can only hope to get the opportunity to be that fucking cool even once in our entire lives, and he nailed it. Consider me extremely interested after his portrayal of Lt. Archie Hicox. Because that was the fucking shit.
-
this exact pic was in total film over 3 months ago.... and its not exactly amazing...
-
shit. Like a TV movie. Congrat to the PR guys releasing this turd.

If "The Descent" is "the best horror of the decade"
by menstrual_bloodfart
... then hands down, THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST DECADE FOR HORROR FILMS EVER.
I mean, the movie was OK, but nothing special and incredibly generic. Is that what it takes to satisfy you homos? A few derivative jump-scares? Sheesh... -
It doesn't begin with the letter D. There, I said it.
-
The Descent = Totally Awesome. Doomsday = retarded.
-
what is the best this decade?
-
It looked like they borrowed or strongly copied Russel Crowe's General Maximus Armor.
-
After seeing him in Inglorious Basterds, I think he'd be great. Ryan Reynolds is better for FLASH anyway.
-
so any new Marshall makes me happy.
-
One who tolerates and find excuses for Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich's movies, while bitching about Neil Marshall's movies.
-
Go fucky ourself and suck Jar Jar Abram's cock.
-
... that soldier with the shield has some MASSIVE titties.
-
They should've got Gerard Butler for this. But I guess he's busy covering other bases. Romcom with Heigl? Cheq. Action Scifi with Dexter and a rapper? Cheq. "Thriller" (I use the term VERY LOOSELY) with overhyped black egomaniac? Unfortunately, cheq. Since he covered ancient times already with 300 he wouldn't look twice here anyway. Anybody see his audition for Dracula in the Dracula 2000 dvd? Man sure puts %177 in his work.
-
And that's Ghosts of Mars John Carpenter, not The Thing John Carpenter.
-
All the grunting of women exerting themselves while jumping from rock to rock was embarrassing. It was like being forced to watch a dozen Monica Selles wannabes try to outdo each other for who could grunt the loudest.
I can't even imagine how excruciating it must have been for crewmen working on that set. All that angry estrogen being whipped into a feministic furor! Oy vey!
Neil Marshall is a very hit or miss director. Mostly miss, if you ask me. If this has any redeeming qualitites, it is that it will be blessedly devoid of tons of grunting women with penis envy. -
I wish more low-budget action suspense would make it to the states. It was completely refreshing.
-
Puh-Lease asshole, I saw Dog Soldiers on UK cinema release back when you actually owned up to liking Bay. PS toungecleaner not one person has mentioned Nerd Trek, Bay, Emmerich or any of your other pet subjects. So fuck off and rewatch "Mr. Alien, Mr. Predator and lots and lots of Mr and Mrs. Dead People."
-
would be way better than 301 or whatever this turns out to be.
-
The Descent was ok? It may not have been your cup of tea...but to try and take a superior standpoint by dissing a popular film merely makes you look like an irrelevant contrarian cunt. Go rewatch Paul Blart you narcissistic donkey fluffer.
-
If we're both talking about the old 80's cartoon & toys, that is.
-
And to hell with the two new centurions, one of which was a Tony Stark wannabee.
-
Of the week, maybe.

Dog Soldiers rocked. Descent wasnt bad. And Doomsday wasnt bad either. But I liked Dog Soliders the best. I cant access IMDB but theres a brit actor (spoiler: the older dude who dies near the end of Dog Soldier)...I thought that guy was a badass.
Oh and Doomsday introduced us to that smoking hot chick of a lead. Id like to lick that shit. -
Its also the portugese word for animal rapist.

from the same site you copy and paste your wreched opinions about movie. The next time you have an orginal thought or funny post will be the first time goat fucker.

Also the portugese defintion of a shit eating mongoloid.

It doesn't begin with "D"! What's he THINKING?!?!?!
by christian_bale_trashed_my_lights
After Dog Soliders, Descent and Doomsday, this is a step in the wrong direction. And yes, i know there's a 'The' before 'Descent' but i don't fucking care. This movie is doomed to fail and it's all the fault of a fucking sneaky 'C' that's jumped into the movie title ahead of the 'D'.Fuck you, you sneaky 'C'!!!!
-
the life of a Roman legionary grunt during the early days of the empire.
-
I think you're talking about Sean Pertwee in dog soldiers, he is pretty hardcore in everything he's in, he was also the no-bullshit engineer who ends up getting blown to shit by the bomb in Event Horizon, and the guy who gets cooked and eaten in Doomsday. I think he's in Soldier too, and also sticks it to your mom every thursday night.
-
... The Descent was shit and I hope your entire family dies in a fire.
"Best Horror Movie of the Decade"... yeah maybe if you're fucking 12... or fucking a 12 year old... -
Nope, this film isn't based on the Simon Scarrow book "Centurion" nor does it have his characters used in it.
-
Antal's definitely a talent to watch. And so's Marshall. Both DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT are the mutt's nuts, and DOOMSDAY's pretty good fun even if it's essentially a remix of every movie in Marshall's DVD collection.
-
All the spelunking tension in the first half was brilliant. But the creepy peeps in the dark? Cheap scares, kinda lame. BUT FUCKING DOOMSDAY?!?! "Borrowed" from so many movies, I lost count before giving up in a rage. Mitra is killer-hot, but give me a break...
-
DESCENT was 100% truly brilliant piece of horror
-
i like the picture
-
Fassbenders "...Kings." is the best line of the year. Doomsday didn't introduce Mitra. If I want Mitra love I'll pop in Hollow Man. Descent barely registers on the scary meter. This looks bad ass though.
-
And anything committing Rhona Mitra to celluloid is a good thing in my books!
-
in doomsday will always make me jizz hard. I picture it when I'm screwing ugly chicks and fat birds.
-
a jigger of 28 Days Later, another shot of Road Warrior, a hair of Lara Croft, shake vigously and serve. Chase with a shot of tequila to make it go down easier and you have Doomsday.
-
They stole from, sacked, murdered and raped the people from every civilization they encountered, unless met with superior military might. Thankfully they destroyed themselves.
Good fucking riddens! -
From movies to TV, this blue tinting of everything just sucks the life out of it. It will be the tired, stale, dated "look" of the 2000s, and every time I see it as in the shots above, I immediately lose interest and think, "these people just aren't trying". Do you really think that making everything a dull, slate blue makes your work "gritty"? No, it just makes you look afraid to use color.
-
At least the armor and stuff looks authentic in this one (except for the vambraces - the "forearm armor"). I wonder what the budget is.
-
That would rock.
-
My family dying in a fire? Cmon...you can do better than that - try harder: don't be a talentless cunt!
-
And get out the scary, scary woods.
-
Visually, it looks like a bastardized amalgamation of 300 and Gladiator
-
you forgot a pint of urine in that drink. doomsday sucked. it had all the elements to be great and then failed. a "munson" of a movie.
-
I may have liked it better than you, but I wanted to really like it, and as a follow up to The Descent, it was a real disappointment.
-
Pathfinder. I hope Marshall didn't hit his peak and is sliding downward.
-
Dunno whether to be annoyed or proud that Marshall portrays Scotland as a furios and brutal place - Scottish werewolves in Dog Soldiers; Scotland being quarantined as a home for maniacs and Mad Max style zaniness in Doomsday and now Scotland versus Fassbender and the Romans.
Outstanding -
Sorry, too busy chopping up the neighbours to proof read
-
if for nothing else than that one shot of Rhona Mitra's ass towards the end.
-
Neil Marshall is improving by leaps and bounds with each film. "Doomsday" was bugnuts, but intentionally so and imaginative in it's use of John Carpenter, "Mad Max," and Terry Gilliam tropes with a kick-ass post-punk soundtrack.
-
And...and I dont say this often....in fact I've never said this, but that peice of shit has made me vow NEVER to see another movie by this hack. Good Lord that movie was 10 different kinds of godaweful bad.
-
Dog Soldiers was ace, and Descent (uk version!) was fucking incredible. But Doomsday was really crap. Just a total mess with too much taken from other movies and not enough originality. Centurion doesn't sound too bad but I really don't like the idea of the Picts being portrayed as the bad guys and the Roman soldiers as the good guys. Hopefully its not gonna be as 'black and white' as that.
-
Just don't let Bay anywhere fucking near it.
-
Caesar says so!
-

What's wrong buddy? Dad not let you taste his cock today? Don't be so angry bro....your venom and bile amuses me but does nothing to further any debate....except continue to prove many of our assertions that you are, in fact, an ignorant cunt. Prove me wrong.

...and speculate that the Lost Legion was actually abducted by aliens, and employed by those aliens in wars of conquest against low-tech species. Now THAT would be cool to see on the big screen.

1. Another semi-black and white violence fest where the only color is red for blood?
2. A bunch of people on this site who have to fall back on silly sexual insults rather than something intelligent.
C'mon guys, you can do better. -
What, you forgot already, you fucking bitch? Fuck you, you fucking pussy! Go get fucked in the ass by your master DocPazuzu

What are you, the dumb sequel to Xiphos 1?

to get fucked in the ass by their slave master DocPazuzu. DocPazuzu has no fucking taste on his choice of his cum receptacles. Which is to be expected from such a fucking moron.

Doomsday is quite underrated in here at AICN's geekry. for some reason, the majority of the geeks here find the shit that Michael Bay excusable (because it's FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!), while they bitch and moan about a truly talented filmmaker like Neil Marshall, who boviously really loves movies and loves making them. Can you explain this? Can you explain this madness?Yes, Doomsday isn0't as good as The Descent and evne dog Sopldiers, but it was still loads of true movie fun, and i still can't wait to see the next Neil Marshall movie. He alone is 10 times better then all the hacks supported by AICN and their geeks put together.
-
I'm certain he knows, loves and respect Star Trek, and would make a movie that would reflect that.
-
They just mixed with the locals, married to the local girls, and got their children, and died there, and their descendants now live in scotland and wherever the scots emigrated during the 19th and 20th century. Reality is far less dramatic. Still interested in watching an historical ass-kicker Neil Marshall movie, of course.
-
Neil Marshall is scotish. I guess it's all a bit of an in-joke for him.
-
Great to se another fan of The Descent. Though i hope you know it from the international (aka, the real) version, and not from the travestry that is the american domestic version.
-
I share your opinions of Dog soldiers and The Descent, but i think you are a bit unfair about Doomsday. Doomsday's problems, for me, is not so much stor,y acting, or direction, but that, for the first time in his career, Neil Marshall seemed to have lost a bit of his usual self-confidence. He over-edited the movie, and he over-used the score, as if he was affraid the movie was being boring or something. It's as if he had directed the movie, which still shows his usual panache, but was edited by some bitch who works for Micheal Bay. It's weird to see that movie for me, good pulp story, very well directed, and edited like shit.Still, you can't say a mvoie is all a waste when you can get a pretty cool scenes with a Bentley Continental GT. Marshall knows which cars to pimp for good cinematic looks. Even in that he's far better then the supposed car expert director Michael Shit Bay and his horrid banal choice of cars in his movies.
-
Nah he's a Geordie
My mum always used to say Geordies were Scots with their brains bashed in so I guess there is a kind of connection
