RIVERS Helps Drag CBS Past ABC To Last Place!! SIMPSONS Rises!! MacFarlane Cartoons Plummet!! Sunday Ratings!!
I am – Hercules!!
“Three Rivers,” essentially the last of the autumn broadcast premieres, arrived in dead last place last night. The 18-49 numbers (last week in parentheses):
6.2 (5.6) Chargers at Steelers
4.9 (5.2) Family Guy
4.9 (4.5) Desperate Housewives
4.3 (4.2) The Simpsons
4.2 (4.9) The Cleveland Show
3.5 (3.6) American Dad
3.4 (3.1) Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
3.2 (3.0) Brothers & Sisters
2.8 (3.2) The Amazing Race
2.3 (3.3) 60 Minutes
2.2 (1.9) Cold Case
2.2 (----) America’s Funniest Home Videos
2.0 (----) Three Rivers
* The biggest drops on Sunday were on CBS, with “60 Minutes” (which didn't have a football overrun as its lead-in this week) down a miserable 28% and “Amazing Race” down 18%. ("Rivers" fell a staggering 29% from its "Amazing" lead-in.)
* Also way down was “The Cleveland Show,” which fell 14%. Lead-in “Family Guy” fell 6%. “The Simpsons” was the only Fox cartoon to rise its second Sunday of the season.
* ABC rebounded slightly following a horrifying slide into fourth place last week. “Desperate Housewives,” down a crazy 37% last week from its 2008 premiere, was up a meager 4% from that low. “Brothers & Sisters,” down 35% last week from its 2008 premiere, was 7% up from last week. “Extreme Makeover” scored best: though down 16% last week from its 2008 premiere, it was up 10% from last week. The “Home Videos” season premiere was down 15% from its 2008 premiere.

Unless they are backed up by a complete polling of every single person that watched TV last night. Which they aren't.
-
yeah, uh, the definition of the word "plummet" is "To decline suddenly and steeply". Which isn't anything the McFarlane cartoons did, that is a mild low at best. Dollhouse? That is beyond plummet. That is a freefall. Into deep space. And then the bottom the ocean. And start digging. On what planet is a 6% a plummet? Serious question. Like an S.A.T.
-
I've never even HEARD of Three Rivers, and I watch a shit-ton of television. My goodness, who is in it? What is it about? Is it the same meaningless old crap CBS is always pumping out?
-
Forgive me if i'm wrong, but I don't recall this constant "ratings update" ever before from Herc. I don't really see the point. Who cares, quality does not equal ratings necessarily.
-
The Chargers' quarterback is Phillip Rivers. He had a hand in it too right?
-
Do you understand ANYTHING about how statistics work? Or the reason statistics are even used? You know, something about the fact that it is of course impossible to actually poll every single person watching TV...... so statisticians figure out how many people you can "poll" to come up with a reasonable estimate of what everyone was watching?
-
I can say with great confidence that it is terrible and will no longer be watching. Yes, I get it, it's supposed to be bad. Macfarlane has created a parody of spin-offs by throwing every spin-off cliche into this soup. While it was amusing as a pilot (would have made a great episode of Family Guy), as an ongoing series it contradicts itself by being what it was making fun of. The only person The Cleveland Show is making laugh is Seth Macfarlane as he travels to the bank.
-
Thursday nights should be Survivor, Amazing Race, CSI. I hate the fact it's on Sunday.
-
That's a pretty minor drop, all things considered. Dollhouse's %50+ drop this season from last, on the other hand. And to restate the point, who cares about Nielson? It's outdated and needs to be revamped.
-
I see now what's wrong with the show- it really boils down to one scene in particular- at the end when Clark triumphs over John Corben, he does NOTHING to try and save Corben's life. He leaves him for dead instead of "blurring" him to the hospital where they could at least put him on a respirator. No, Clark is more worried about Lois' little scratch on her head.
The show is pretty awful. I tried giving it another look this season (assuming shit would have formed up a bit now that Clark is becoming Superman) but no. This show is more clueless than ever. And Tom Welling hit the acting wall, even with this part. He's brutally bland. -
It's something new he's trying, and a lot of people (including myself) do in fact care. If you don't care that's fine, he's still posting the other stuff. Just ignore these posts and click on the stuff that interests you. Seriously, why do people complain about these posts when there are people who enjoy them?
-
Thanks, I hope you keep doing them. Your math is a little off on DH ... it was up 4 pts, which is 9%. But it's still way down from last year. I wonder if CBS sells/prices off 18-49 ratings. It doesn't seem like they care about this as much as the other networks.
-
How many shows is Fox, going to give Seth MacFarlane? Maybe, they should make a eighth day, call it MacFarlaneday, and air nothing but Seth MacFarlane shows.
-
It's another hospital drama, but it's about people dying and donating their organs, and people delivering those organs.
-
That whole self help secret gubbins is ripe for a ribbing.
-
Ok, I admit it, it sucks, hard. The pilot showed some potential. The 2nd show just reinforced the unlikable characters and of course there is the "we are trying too hard" bear as a neighbor. I can't watch anymore of this poorly executed show.

People Aren't Watching Less TV, The Audience is Still the Same..
by fedrich519
... Nielsen just can't track them on Hulu.com, iTunes, streaming video from network websites, and of course the most wildly popular... illegal downloading.

We have a whole generation of kids (gen y?) that are growing into a sense of entitlement. Everything should be free to them. Software, music, movies...everything media. And if it's not free, they believe it's ok to steal it.

Talk about random off topicness...

Much like Family Guy's figures, I plummeted today!
by christian_bale_trashed_my_lights
My right foot actually slipped off a curb that was several inches high! I am lucky to be alive.Praise Whedon for his mercy!
-
Didn't see fedrich's post at first.
-
Ok, so you fumbled the ball. Way to recover!
-
is they aren't trying to cram five gags into every half second anymore. From about season 10 until last couple of seasons the pace of the show became absurdly frenetic as a way to cover up for the fact that the writing was so inconsistent.
-
That was the first episode I'd seen and it was a little unpleasant. I could see it getting a little better as they start to develop the characters but it probably won't last long enough for that. So he has a fat kid and a talking baby, why not a talking dog? That seems kind of weak. They can splice the weird redneck neighbors into the Family Guy and Cleveland will have served some purpose.
-
Its like if Harry suddenly started posting Box Office results every 3 days.
-
Who's the new token black character in Family Guy?
-
Nobody wants to watch any TV anymore? Or is this just Tivo, etc, effing everything up?
-
than last weeks pilot, but not by much. I don't see it lasting more than a season. Liked the reference to it in Family Guy, which was amusing enough but not a patch on last week's. American Dad was good but not great, Simpsons was an improvement too.
-
Does Seth McFarlane wear blackface to get into the mood when taping this crap? It's going to drag down every show around it.
-
I may watch one network show on air per week. Otherwise, I'll watch network programming on hulu or the streaming sites. When I'm watching TV for entertainment, I will hang around the cable channels almost exclusively (i.e. National Geographic/History channels). I don't watch primetime as a religion, that's for sure.
-
...at least not to the networks and their sponsors. But who cares what they think, right? LOLZ moron.

Rekshun, it matters if the nets keep cancelling good shows
by yackbacker
Because they think the numbers reflect their actual audience size. Well, this is a transitional time for TV production. Somehow, the nets are going to try and fuck free access to their content. I bet you within a couple of years that hulu will require subscription fees, etc. THis is shit will happen in one way or another.
-
The comedy in all those shows was as limp as Letterman's dick right now. Not a big laugh in the bunch, although the Simpsons always bear watching because their characters are still warm and human. Hey, I'll settle for that in a pinch.
-
...but I couldn't even make it through the second episode. I wandered off, did other things and ended up missing some of Family Guy because of its awfulness. I won't be bothering with it again.
Simpsons has made something of a comeback in the last season or two. I'll never again be quite the fan of it that I was in the first five years, but I no longer feel like I'm wasting my time watching it. American Dad has been better than Family Guy this season. -

American Dad usually even has a plot
by flurryofchocolateglazedkrispykremedonuts
Seth must use the really smart manatees to write that one. Again, fuck you McFarland!
-
about him has no meaning anymore. a lot of people good and bad have died by his actions, mistakes and negligence. not that he doesn't do any good, but hitting over the head with Supes unwilling to kill anyone does not resonate anymore.
-
I don't care about every night and every show, per se, but I'd be curious to know how the HBO Sunday lineup stacks up, Dexter, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, etc. Hook it up, brutha!
-
Broadcast TV is entirely based on how many viewers see the commercials during a show. The show doesn't matter. Only the commercials. That's the only way broadcast TV makes money. DVR/Tivo doesn't count, because people skip the commercials. Hulu doesn't count, because they're different commercials. Illegal downloading doesn't count, because every single person who illegally downloads a copyrighted show spends too much time licking dogs' assholes to watch a commercial. Broadcast TV is down as much as it is because the shows basically suck (although not as much as people who illegally download copyrighted material suck. To all of you who illegally download copyrighted material: Which tastes better: a grey hound's asshole, or a poodle's asshole?) Just wondering.
-
was the best thing about Family Guy.
-
Its how shows like Gossipt Girl survive. Networks take both the iTunes top downloaded shows, and DVR ratings, plus they also count Hulu. Why do you guys think Hulu may start charging people to view content?
Also hate to break it to you, but Dollhouse isn't as "illegally downloaded" as "90210" or "Gossip Girl"... -
Do your own analysis, and stop being biased. Are you going to tout those low South Park numbers this Wednesday? Doubtful. So these things suck. The end.
-
Both Family Guy and The Simpsons are up year to year in total viewers. I know its cool to hate McFarlane, but Family Guy got nearly 11 million total viewers last night. And The Simpsons nearly 10 million. That's great considering both shows are already older.
-
They announced the second season earlier this year (presumably because they pushed back TCS's debut from the spring till now, and didn't want to interrupt the production of new episodes) so the show has at least 33 more episodes left. Plenty of time to improve. American Dad took 4-6 episodes to get good, afterall.
-
Cleveland show is pretty weak so far, but ALL animated shows need a full season to find it's voice (don't front those early Family Guy eps. the one where Lois voice is weird and Meg isn't Mila -- SUCKED)
And yeah, like quest said. It's already in it's 2nd season so Fox is stuck anyway -
and wizards of waverly. who doesn't love Randy Orton and Selena Gomez's jailbait ass?
-
Were you born brain damaged, or did you work for years at becoming a complete fucking idiot? Whatever village you are missing from, please go back. Take your shitty King of the hill with you. KOTH had one problem, it was never, ever in danger of being funny. But apparently, it was a staple of trailer trash and functionally fucktarded adults.
-
Is also enjoying good numbers for new episodes due to the fact that it does incredibly well in syndication. It's always right behind Two and a Half Men. The people who catch it in Syndication are starting to watch it first run. Too bad South Park did horribly when they attempted to Syndicate it. Those nasty Late Night-Early Fringe timeslots did the show in. Herc should admit the show peaked with the movie and never returned to greatness. And it's too "of the moment" jokes killed any Syndication prospects because the jokes are dated after time passes. The FG bashing is silly at this point. You can like both.
-
I'm still hoping cunt Bonnie Hammer gets cancer and dies. *Sigh* oh well, when all else fails, show wrestling.
-
I can tolerate a lot of dark humor but that might have crossed the line even for me.
-
http://tinyurl.com/ybkzybz Honestly, who would you fuck first in that picture?
-
that's a still from Wizard of Oz when the Wicked Witch snatches Toto. To answer your question...the dog.
-
And she has made cable more profitable than network. USA is churning out high rated scripted dramas. Bravo found an audience and is up in triple digits. Oxygen is a real network now. Syfy despite its stupid rebranding still gets good ratings. The smartest thing for NBC to do is to hire her to oversee network instead... Fire Jeff Zucker who has brought nothing new to programming, just Leno 5 days a week and the supersizing of sitcom episodes... The fish rots at the head and its high time he was fired.
-
Their programming is fantastic. Zucker is a bag of dicks. Be done with that moron.
-
But I like it. I see it getting better. American Dad started out a little wobbly too. But I have faith. Don't really understand all the McFarlane hate, but I respect it. How is his stuff really any different than any of the other animated stuff? A lot of people cite the clips as just lazy writing, but the one-off's are really a point of the show. Someone will probably jump all over me for this, saying the show is shite. (and by the way, for those of you that use that word, you're not the crazy Irishman from Braveheart, as much as you'd like to be, so please stop. It's really annoying. Same thing goes for arse. I know it's cool when Englishmen say it, but again; it's just annoying. Unless you are British or Irish, in which case: carry on with your bad selves) Anyways like I was saying, that's why Hansel and Grettel could never have kids; cause they'd be monsters. That's my mamma!

Herc saying MacFarlane's ratings plummeted means one thing
by osiris3657
Herc hates Family Guy...way to be subtle about it.
-
Ah, classic McFarlane "comedy"...just have a character on the show replicate something else VERBATIM. Ha-ha, it's Halle's notorious Oscar acceptance speech...but with Cleveland as Halle! HILARIOUS!!!
-
Forgot about that, but it was pretty bad. I usually like American Dad better, because Stan isn't quite as bad as Peter, and Roger is hilarious.
-
He sucks ass.

Cleveland Jr as washroom door turned the show from meh to blah f
by tangcameo
Is Seth McFarlane just shuttling his Family Guy writers around to American Dad and Cleveland Show script meetings? "But Seth we're so tiiiirrrred. If we give you a script can we sleep?"
-
Can we say shite and arse too?

but I was told it's fucking painful. It's a lousy idea anyway.
-
I'm going with three way. If Hammer is responsible for Psych and Burn Notice she's aces with me.
-
no contest.
-
It's about Share baby !
-
You have a point about him not trying to save Metallo, but he didn't kill him. It was Metallo who pulled himself apart. That wasn't Clark's intent.
-
People aren't watching less (if so, barely); they're just watching differently. TV consumers have been asking for choices for a long time, and TV providers have been completely ignoring that. Now everyone is getting TV *their* way, and the rating system cannot measure that. Hooray for the consumer!
-
How can one 'illegally download' something that is broadcast *for free* over the air? I've never signed a waver that says I MUST watch commercials. My legitimately purchased DVR software let me automatically remove the commercials from anything it records. Since I rarely watch TV realtime, I barely ever see a (inspipd, brainsucking) commercial, and for that I'm thrilled. After all, it's not the consumers of TV that have refused to let us purchase individual channels via cable, or season passes to download TV without commercials. I'd be happy to pay for the TV that I watch (and do, though cable), but I'm not going to pay *and* watch commercials *and* give them my viewing data for free.
-
Yeah, no one under 30 probably cared for it, but I'm a sucker for Generation X pandering.
-
AGAIN...no actual JOKE, just a SHOT-FOR-SHOT RECREATION of the original. I realize a lot of people laugh at this shit, but I'm just left baffled. If you were 17 right now...would you laugh at that?
-
I'm sorry, two shows, two half hours I'll never get back. I predict the second season will wind up as a dvd-only release.
In fact, the entire 2 hour animation block the first week was like a day at the dentist. All four shows were pretty dull.
On the other hand, I thought The Simpson episode for the 2nd week was actually fairly funny at least through the halfway point before it petered out. -
Was stupid. If they did a random opening every week, sort of like the simpsons gag, it would at least be fun. I was expecting them to go somewhere with it and they didn't. Last weeks family guy with the multiverse was their perfect show. No plot, just set ups for a bunch of new jokes. I bet they wrote it in a half hour.
-
Finally did something good. That Simpson was the best since the LOTR spoof episode. Or Homers Birthday.
-
To imply that The Simpsons is doing so well while Family Guy is plummeting is completely deceptive. Family Guy got BETTER RATINGS than The Simpsons. I get it. YOu don't like Family Guy. You're not alone. It seems to polarize audiences. It's got its fans and its detractors. But your headline is just biased journalism by all standards. And it makes you look ridiculous. I'm surprised you didn't also claim that Wonderfall's ratings are up while you were at it.
-
You do Bonnie doggy style and you put peanut butter on your asshole for her dog to enjoy. That way, everyone wins.
-
Still not close to the brilliance of its peak, but I'll take above-par SIMPSONS anytime.
-
They don't do it for every episode, but for the past few seasons they've done a parody opening about once a season. Off the top of my head, I recall they've previously recreated the title seqences of Law & Order and The Naked Gun.
-
that the MacFarlane cartoons really DID "plummet." It would be great to not be subjected to their awfulness any longer. Instead, I only found out something that I already knew: That AICN should buy each of their writers a fucking dictionary, or teach them how to type stuff into google.
