UPDATED!! 'You Spend One More Minute On His Lap You're Going To Get Blackmailed!!' Steve Martin On Monday LATE SHOW!!

Published at:  Oct 05, 2009 8:10:08 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

Some “Letterman” guests are always money in the bank: Bill Murray, Norm Macdonald, Albert Brooks, Vince Vaughn, Tom Hanks.

Steve Martin is one of these. Why is he on tonight? “Pink Panther 2” hit Blu-ray in June. His next movie, “It’s Complicated,” isn’t out till Christmas.

Turns out he’s on tour with the bluegrass band the Steep Canyon Rangers.

Anyway, it’s the TV thing I’m most looking forward to tonight in the midst of this new TV season. Some of my reasons:

11:30 Monday. CBS.

    No infidelity jokes

Martin has had relationship/marital problems of his own, so I doubt he'd take a shot at Dave. I miss seeing guests like Albert Brooks and Martin who would prepare bits to perform on talk shows. Pee Wee Herman used to do it as well.

    by gusterlove

if this whole story was a big setup created by Letterman and Martin? I imagine that can't be the case since the "extortionist" was arraigned and the Manhattan DA commented on it already, but still, this would be the ultimate "punk."

Various press accounts say Dave was involved with Merrill Markoe from 1978-1988, and with his now-wife Regina Lasko from 1986-present. Note the overlap.

People will never look at Letterman the same again.

    by estacado1

Though I feel it won't affect his ratings, but I feel CBS isn't going to extend his contract when it expires. And he too will feel that it's time to retire. Craig Ferguson should take over. But the only problem with Craig is that he's afraid to stir the pot. He's too politically correct for a talk show host. He needs to be "edgier".

Steve Martin and Martin Short are old friends of Dave

    by badmrwonka

he's having a tough time, and they're friends. I think it's great that they pop up and do some funny stuff. beats watching Jessica Alba try to speak coherently for 2 minutes straight.

Putting friendships or camaraderie aside, Letterman is known to favor guests who make an effort to bring something extra to their appearance, rather than simply pitching their new project. And it's a good point about Markoe and his wife, Lasko. Anybody who knows who they are knows that this was not a revelation, except perhaps that even post-bypass, older, wiser, Dave still liked romps around the office. And the feeling was apparently mutual. The blackmailer, aka the guy Smitty shacked up with ain't no spring chicken either.

so the question is what prompted the blackmailer..

    by emeraldboy

to do what he did. that is the real question and more importantly was there abuse of some kind. dave is one of wealthiest people on us tv. did he try to make this man and his allegations. these are all legimate questions and ones which need answers if dave doesnt want to see 40 year career go up in smoke.

    Bowfinger is autobiographical

    by mgthedj

Graham's character is based on Anne Heche, thus the turning lesbian at the end. While plugging the movie "Grand Canyon" Martin was talking about the Kevin Kline/Mary-Louise Parker infidelity sub-plot and how so close to real life it was written. He had a bit of a Freudian moment, 'cause I suspected he was talking about his own infidelities.Very entertaining show last night, and Nolan B. good call on the old SCTV skits.-----later-----m

I once read an article about steve martin...

    by emeraldboy

very serious guy. deadly serious. the reporter who wrote the article while interving around various parts of LA. his home and what not, felt martin was not really interested in making people laugh. and was interested in things like paining and the selling of paintings namely his own. martin was the reporter felt really rather boring.

    by emeraldboy

a couple of months ago. In which martin said that he never went into to comedy to change anything. or be inventive.
