PRIVATE Crushes MENTALIST!! FLASHFORWARD, OFFICE & GREY’S Slip!! FRINGE, COMMUNITY & PARKS Up! Thursday Ratings!!
I am – Hercules!!
No more premieres! Thursday 18-49 scores (previous weeks in parentheses):
6.0 (6.6) (1.8) Grey’s Anatomy
4.5 (----) (----) Private Practice
4.0 (4.0) (2.0) CSI
3.7 (3.4) (1.9) The Mentalist
3.7 (3.7) (3.6) Survivor
3.7 (4.1) (----) FlashForward
3.7 (3.8) (4.1) The Office
2.9 (2.8) (3.8) Community
2.6 (2.7) (3.2) Bones
2.3 (2.2) (3.1) Fringe
1.9 (1.8) (2.1) Parks and Recreation
1.8 (1.8) (2.0) SNL Thursday
1.6 (1.7) (2.7) The Jay Leno Show
1.6 (1.7) (1.6) The Vampire Diaries
1.2 (1.2) (1.2) Supernatural
Figures in grey are for repeats.
* While “Fringe” finally stopped a precipitous slide (it was the only 9 p.m. show that gained this week), “Mentalist” suffered a surprisingly decisive loss in its first bout with “Private Practice.” “Mentalist” and “Fringe” were last season’s top new shows, but they are struggling since their moves to super-competitive Thursday.
* No show in memory has beaten a new Thursday “Survivor” two weeks in a row, and ABC’s terrible “FlashForward” didn’t either; it fell 8% to tie the CBS reality show in 18-49 for first place. (“Survivor” won in total viewers.)
* “Parks and Recreation” was the only series to show an increase in last night’s first primetime hour.
* Even though it didn’t have to take on “Grey’s” this week, “Leno” hit its lowest Thursday number yet. For the second Thursday in a row it came perilously close to falling behind The CW’s “Vampire Diaries” among 18-49 viewers.

One of my favorite shows. At least those rating are considered ok by CW standards.
I gotta go tell congress to outlaw reality bullshit fucking retard shows.
O-man out! -
black (kinda, but not really) president. and I'M FROM KENYA BITCHES!
-
Wow Herc really hates FlashForward...it's not that bad...not as good as most other reviews I've read but it's not the worst thing out...definitely is no LOST
-
Joss didn't make it. Not enough angst
-
It's tied with survivor in the demo, ABC has to be happy about that. Parks is still doing abysmally. What Parks lacks is conflict between the characters, every other comedy has it in spades but not this one much. I know you guys reading this are thinking no what it really lacks is humor and you're right but conflict and increased sparring could help create that.
-
Cause I like Fringe, Parks, Office, etc but I don't watch them live cause I'd rather wait til its over and just ff thru commercials.
-
The show just brings up so many intriguing questions. Like, "What the hell is Seth Mcfarlane doing in this show?"
-
It has an interesting premise and I'm interested to see how it all plays out.
Oh, and Supernatural just plain rocks. Loved Cass this week in "The End". -
1) John Cho’s realization: “Someone else is investigating the blackouts.” Are you saying someone other than some FBI agents in L.A. are looking into the mysterious worst worldwide disaster in the history of history? Shouldn’t EVERYBODY else be investigating the blackouts?
2) Considering the stakes, Courtney Vance keeping his toilet blackout a secret was Marc Guggenheim dramedy bullshit. What kind of FBI man would give a shit about somebody knowing he was taking a shit?
3) The insanely lame “comic relief” muffin lady. (And Cho’s eye-roll during this scene demonstrates that David Goyer is every bit as bad a director as he is a writer.)
4) The Penny Widmore affair plotline is fucking tedious. Either she wants to bone the guy with the British accent more than she wants to keep her marriage to the guy with the fake American accent – or not. The time-travel aspect is wasted here; it’s virtually irrelevant to this boring plotline.
This show is worse than “Heroes.” It is Bad TV.
-
And it's 'Cas' which is short for 'Castiel'. **SPOILER:The flashes are caused by a physics experiment.
-
Lost is cheesy as hell too, as are most of the classic films like Blade Runner, American Werewolf, The Thing and so on that this site loves. If you want boring realism, try Parks and Rec. It'll put people to sleep but it's more realistic.
No offense Herc, I approve of the job you do here usually, other than this FF and PR issue. :) -
I adore all three of those movies and don't find any of them even remotely cheesy. Seriously.
-
Of course it isn't as good as Lost or IMHO Fringe, but its much better than Heroes or Dollhouse, or 95% of the shit drama/sci-fi shows that are out there right now.
-
...just saying. Maybe it's time that coaxial news changes hands. I enjoyed buffy and angel back in the day as much as the next guy, but fuck's sake Herc. Move on. Not everything can be Joss Whedon or Desperate Housewives. FlashForward is not nearly as bad as heroes, nor half the crap you seem to think is stellar television.
-
Psych is much better
-
I enjoyed the premier. It was intriguing. The second episode was weak.
Revealing Demetri's sell by date as the Ides of March was so anvilicious. Now all Demetri has to do is avoid a quorum of senators meeting at the forum and he is home free. How could they undercut the drama like that?
The aphorism that those who see visions suffer twice, albeit interesting of itself, came across as pretentious silliness in execution. The dude intones it in dark tone, shoots the sheriff, and then jumps out a window. Shooting the sheriff who had not a vision to share just undercut his whole mission. That and, like I said before, it seemed so lame.
When did Homeland Security become the boss of the FBI? If ever there was a non-military organization that hewed close to the chain of command it would be the FBI.
So the FBI is organizing a craigslist for vision information exchange? Why would they want to put themselves in the middle of potential scams and blackmail attempts. The idea itself is interesting but I just do not see the FBI as the point of the spear. Exploitation of innocents aside, I could see how some would fear a certain Big Brother intrusion when sharing their deepest, darkest fears of the future.
I can go on and on. Yet pathetic slave to genre television that I am I will hang in there and hope some plausibility is restored in future episodes. Good luck with that, eh? -
"This show is worse than “Heroes.”" You can't honestly believe that. Granted, it's no Lost, but the overall story is engaging. Yes, I do agree with two of your complaints. I'll be glad if/when Cho eats it seeing as how he's the weakest link on the show. I didn't see JJ's Trek, so I'm not sure how well he works in other dramatic roles, but good God is he terrible in Flashforward. The FBI agent on the shitter thing was kind of divergent as well. The show is not perfect, and I wish they'd keep the terrible comic relief out of it, but it's a solid premise and Fienes is great as the lead. I'll gladly watch the rest of this season in hopes the iron out the few kinks they have. And there's nothing remotely cheesy in American Werewolf? Huh?
-
Because I really saw the episode last night and did not have a vision of it occurring tonight.
-
Who knows what the mission of faux D. Gibbons is. Aside from identity theft on a grand scale. Who knew cupcake bakers had such huge credit lines?
-
I know they say Leno doesn't have to have high ratings, because the show is cheaper than a big budget drama, but I assume it has a higher budget than Supernatural and Vampire Diaries. Mentalist repeats got a 1.9 and Leno got a 1.6. That can't be good. For the record, I think Leno is a douche. People need to read The Late Shift.
http://www.amazon.com/Late-Shift-Letterman-Network-Battle/dp/0786889071 -
Herc also didn't find Buffy or Angel cheesy either, which is why I just throw out his opinions. He is entitled to think what he wants, but I think both Buffy and Angel were entirely too cheesy to take seriously. That being said, I really loved Firefly.
-
Everything is slightly different over there....the word "cheesy" means "excellence", as in - The Thing, American Werewolf, Lost and Blade Runner are excellent.
-
I think that would be a great TV show. Especially since it's pretty much true. Harry, seriously, Herc is the WORST television reviewer I have ever seen. And I think 99.99% of the people that post here would agree. Herc is all about the crappy sitcoms and chick flick dramas and could care less about the real genre stuff that most of the rest of us would like to see coverage of. His dislike of stuff like Supernatural borders on vendetta and I can only guess it's because it's a show about hunters of the supernatural that doesn't have Sarah Michelle Prinze on it or Joss Whedon writing. I liked Buffy and Angel, too, Herc, but Supernatural is just an extremely well-written show. And Ben Edlund, the creator of the Tick, is one of the main writers on it. He also happened to write some of the best episodes of Angel (including "Smile Time"), Firefly ("Objects in Space", "War Stories", and "Heart of Gold") and Venture Brothers ("Viva los Muertos!").
-
When 3.7 million more people watched it than Private Practice. And let's be honest here, the majority of wealth is outside of our 18-49 group, so in reality the 50+ group is more important to advertisers.
-
The ratings for The Jay Leno show, look really bad. I was wondering, what the ratings for The Chevy Chase Show, were like, when it was on the air.
-
Fox. House, Family Guy and Simpsons. Followed by CBS with 2.5 Men. After that, I don't watch anything else on the list.
I can't understand why people like Big Bang Theory. For a bunch of guys playing geniuses, they act like they're morons. And the single hot chick isn't hot enough to compensate for the stupidity of the show. -
Damn Herc, I know he isnt the greatest writer of all time or anything but the guy should get some credit for 2 good blade movies and his contributions to Batman Begins and Dark Knight.
-
I'm shocked.
Also, I love the trumpeting of Parks and Recreation's rise from a 1.8 to a 1.9. Hilarious. That show will be off the air this year. -
I, as many others do, have problems with FlashForward so far, but...Jesus Christ, dude, you are aware Guggenheim is actually also an accomplished genre writer? Check out his excellent Oni Press comic Resurrection if you don't believe me. The first volume is available for six bucks, and contains all six issues of the first series, plus the annual. Volume II recently started -- and, sadly, has been met with delays -- but is one of the very best comics out there at the moment, along with Morrison's BATMAN AND ROBIN, Willingham's FABLES, Carey's THE UNWRITTEN, Ellis's DOKTOR SLEEPLESS, Kirkman's THE WALKING DEAD and Hickman's FANTASTIC FOUR and SECRET WARRIORS.
-
No Body Cares.
-
gets to keep going. it has a very nice cast of characters and the only real flaw is that the killer is glaringly obvious straight away. better than those shit dramas about arsehole doctors that just keep repeating the same shit every week plus the woman are dog ugly.
-
I would hate to see it, but if NBC makes more money producing all-Leno, all-the-time then that may be the future of the peacock chooses. (And I do not mean Leno himself 24/7; but a schedule that favors variety and interview that are Leno, Letterman, O'Brien, Ferguson, et. al.) How sad would that be? Well, for the stockholders, maybe not so sad and in the end it is their vote that counts.
-
would be the new LOST
-
Glad to see it's getting steady ratings--I hope NBC orders a full season...hopefully the move to 8pm won't kill it...
-
Did you not see the picture of him in his boxer shorts?? Like to see you guys take a picture in your boxers, then post it for all to see.
No, really, I'd like to see that. -
Cho just stood around in Star Trek, he wasn't required to act.
-
than HEROES
-
The first three weeks have been dull, single-challenge shows.
-
Well, guess ABC has another slot to put "I wanna lose weight".
-
to George Takei. in the next movie Cho will get captured a lot or just be completely useless when Kirk leaves him in charge. I never understood why Kirk kept the plonker around.
-
I don't get why people want to shut Herc up. So he likes some shows that other people don't like and he hates some shows other people do like. Everybody is different. Here at AICN we get a glimpse into some of these different people and their opinions on things. If you really need to talk about Supernatural there are forums for these things (I should know I go to them sometimes).

I laughed quite abit. And it's good to see Al Bundy in a good show.
-
actually in green...Is someone color blind?
-
My flashforward was a world where Flashforward has no second season
-
and it really deserves a bigger audience. On the other hand FlashForward looks second rate on every level.
-
Mentalist is lots of fun! Just watching the ad for the 'Private Practice' premiere made me laugh.
"I am BRILLIANT surgeon! Let me help her!" LMAO!
Hope Mentalist ratings get better.
Loving Flash Forward. Fringe off to slow start but now that Olivia is off the cane and Nimoy returns Thursday, I have faith it'll pick up again. Its not bad by any stretch. -

Like FF--hate Fiennes voice--he get kicked in the fruits?
by dead youngling
i bet FF came from an idea on LOST that they couldn't pull off. And i dig on Fringe and Supernatural as well, though I watch Supernatural on blu/DVD.
-
It easily beat Private Practice in the full ratings, as CSI did Grey's, but Herc only puts up the 18-49 numbers which actually don't mean as much any more since the extended Nielsen demographics are key (and how The CW stays on the air). Oh, and Psych is garbage with two of the most irritating actors on television. Smarmy can be funny with the right actors, but that show sucks.
-
Modern Family has some good laughs. A few are clumsy but overall the cast makes up for it. And what happened to Supernatural, it was doing so good but this season has been lame.
-
This is bar none some of the best storytelling on TV. Imagine the writers actually knowing from day one where they were going and following through all the way to the final fifth season.
-
That's what I want to know. I know I'm curious as to what he'll say.
-
...than that to be safe. Hope they move it to a less lethal slot.
-
That was unexpected. His story started out as smarm and then turned into a confession and a revelation of criminal activity against his person. First a stalker and now a blackmailer... Wow. And kudos to Harrelson. How do you follow that act by Letterman?
-
...I rarely agree with you about shows. In fact, as a Buffy fan, I used to cringe when you liked an episode too much because I knew I wouldn't. I don't have a problem with you making clear you don't like a given show. That's what you're supposed to do. But Herc, take into account the nature of this site. You don't have to like a show to give it a talkback. In fact, giving one to genre shows you don't like affords you the opportunity to explain your problems with the show. I'm not a huge Supernatural fan but given the constituency the show has on this site it is sort of criminal that it hasn't had a regular talkback. I flat out hate the endless Stargate permutations, but if there's a demand for talkbacks for them they should probably have them too. I really don't think it hurts to be more inclusive, even if you don't personally like everything you're including. By the way, I agree about Flash. I was really looking forward to it, and to this point, anyway, it had been numbingly underwhelming. Of course I was underwhelmed by the first four episodes of Fringe, to the point where I stopped watching it. If not for Hulu I wouldn't have ever found my way back to it. So I'm still hanging in there.
-
I think it's time to stop obsessing about me in my undies and time to start reciprocating with your own photos.
-
And if Goyer wrote those the man is clearly a genius. But when I look at what Goyer's churning out when the Nolan Bros. aren't in the room -- not only "FlashForward" but also "Threshold" and the latter-day "Blade" adaptations -- it makes me ponder how vital his contributions were to those projects. Perhaps I am alone in this.
-
I hereby forbid you from reading my column.
I believe the time has come for you to seek your TV news from the roughly 900,000,000 other Internet columns that cover television. I have every confidence you'll discover one of them is more to your liking. -
So basically, the perfect show.
-
I don't watch Supernatural and don't expect I ever will at this point, so my column may not be the best place to look for coverage of that series. Were I a Supernatual fan, I'd consider checking another Internet column that covers TV; I think Television Without Pity, for example, has a discussion forum dedicated exclusively to the show.
Of course, if somebody has a strange Riddler-like mental disorder that allows them to post about Supernatural ONLY in a talkback beneath one of my columns, they're more than welcome to do so here. I can't imagine anyone objecting since I do, after all, mention Supernatural several times in the motherpost above. -
and I think John Cho is the best part. Joseph Fiennes keeps sounding like Nancy Botwin's Mexican kingpin and I can't understand why. But otherwise it's a good fill in for LOST until it gets here. Although I think Sonya Walger on this show is gonna make me not care if Penny gets it. I can't see Penny without Des. It makes no sense.
-
Fringe is a warmed-over, not very good, horribly-cast X-Files ripoff which deserves to die, Fast Forward is far too serious and a complete waste of John Cho. And when the hell did Joseph Fiennes become such an obvious, melodramatic actor? He's the worst "Brit doing a bad American accent" since my former love Kevin McKidd on the awful Journeyman and even worse Grey's Anatomy. Bleh. Thank GOD for Joel McHale (who rules so hard it's almost painful) and the return of olc-school Chevy Chase - Community is the ONLY completely good new series anywhere. Can't wait until 30 Rock and Lost return, and also THANK GOD for Mad Men. Everything else blows hard.
-
Severely disappointed in the reduction of silly challenges from 2 to 1, though.
-

Also, I agree with whoever doesn't like Big Bang Theory
by liesandpicturesofalsolies
It's like Fraiser, a dumb comedy about "smart" people.
-
moments.
-
Are you still holding a grudge against CW for cancelling Angel? You really should give it a try.
-
No offense though I must admit; perhaps this Flash Forward debate would have been better suited to one of those cool “FAQ” style reviews Herc used to write. Remember those? Those were cool, Herc. What happened to them? I know modern ADD ridden tweens love a quickie Youtube video list, or an even easier-to-post ratings list, though you know; I *loved* your FAQ style reviews WAY better. Lists of questions like “What’s cool” and “What’s not so cool” and whatnot. Those reviews were far more suited to a hearty debate than cut and pasted ratings shite. I'm not flamin'. I’m just saying.
-
I really enjoyed the premiere, and this sophomore episode was a letdown by comparison. The Olivia affair plot is completely uninteresting to me and the cupcake lady was really stupid. Things moved too slowly. They need to hurry up and introduce Dominic Monaghan's character and move the ACTUAL story forward.
-
Ghost Whisperer, Medium, etc. THOSE are weak.
-
It sucked for FlashForward, and it sucked for Fringe also. I think FF has a powerful premise, but nowhere to go with it. It's going to be tedious "fill in your blanks to your destiny" and either people will or won't fulfill them. There just isn't really anywhere interesting to go until we're much, much further down the road. And half the scenes ar eso dopey and filled with retarded dialogue I was almost shocked. I don't hate it though, and I def don't think its "bad tv" Not yet, at least. It's certainly not worse than Heroes, which is a RIDICULOUS statement Herc.
-
17 and 50 year olds are people too!
-
more than men. Is that good or bad?
-
to the calls for a specfic Supernatural talkback. It's twice now that he's addressed the subject within the past month and has basically said you can talk about whatever the fuck you want if he doesn't get complaints about excessive spoilers.
If we can talk about Whedon in every talkback, surely you can figure out a way to talk about Supernatural. -
I t have chugged that beer when Topher got hit.
-
Shouldn't have chugged that beer when Topher got hit. I'm outie. Going to take pics for Herc.
-
I have to watch the second episode, but based on what I saw in the premiere, I can see those issues arising already.
-
Goyer has done always been hot and cold. He had produced alot of shit but he has a much better average then alot of other writers around Hollywood. I dont know how much he contributed to the Batman movies but he must have done enough for the Nolan brothers to bring him back. I also liked the first two Blade movies. So that is why I give him a pass. As for the ratings talkbacks I like them. It gives everyone a chance to talk about any of their favorite shows that were on. Its the best compromise without having a talkback dedicated to every show that is on.
-
We didn't read this post for your opinions on the shows. We read it for the numbers. We know you don't like FlashForward. You don't need to remind us every time you type the show onto your computer.
-
Herc is a douche.
-
I'm still pissed off that Fiennes STILL hasn't (unless I missed it) told his wife that he saw himself going back to the bottle in his vision and that it had been previously established that she WOULD leave him if he turned into a drunk again. Hasn't it occured to him to wonder "gee, will it be my alcoholism that drives her to be unfaithful or her unfaithfulness that drives me back to alcoholism?" And that sharing this tidbit might just relieve some of the guilty feelings she's having right now. Not that there aren't any, umm, bigger issues on the world scene to deal with or anything but that's another gripe.
-
The Warner rep for Supernatural and Smallville thinks he's an unprofessional ass.
Herc asked for and was given the first two eps of Smallville season 9, watched them, but didn't even bother doing talkbacks or anything. Also, he slept in and missed the Smallville and Supernatural Comic Con panels.
That's why the Warner rep said about not bothering with Herc anymore. -
for his opinions? It's his fucking article! He owns Coax. And that includes screeners he'd like to review & editorialze. You fucks trying to tie his hands make me sick.
-
You should be banned from the internet.
-
I haven't seen this week's episode yet, waiting to watch it with my peeps, but so far it's rebounding nicely from a problematic season four. "Good God, Y'all!" was great.
-
...head over to The Zone, the gang's been holding the fort down in my absence quite nicely.
-
I know they probably won't reappear until sweeps, but I still say a smorgasbord column would be plenty popular around here.
-
So good. Russell and Shambo had better already have spots on the next All-Star edition.
-
The pilot was quite good. Not as good as the hype, but good. The problem is, ABC wants SO BADLY for this to be Event Television, and the next LOST. But the creative talent behind it has no sense of pay-off. I guarantee whatever is behind all of this is nowhere near as interesting as they probably think it is. And the innate problem with shows like this, where there is a grand mystery unraveling, no matter how great the reveal is, it will never ever live up to the effort it takes to get there. LOST has come closest of the shows who have ever tried, but Braga and Guggenheim are not Cuse and Lindeloff. I realize Guggenheim has some respect for his work on Resurrection, but this is also the guy who wrote Young X-Men, one of the most critically reviled and creatively uninspired comics in recent memory, canceled after 12 issues. Every mystery he tried to weave into the book turned out to be perfectly obvious and incredibly sophomoric. It gives me little hope for this show.
-
Pawn Stars is the shiznit.
-
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip?
-
I never requested Smallville season-9 screeners, I never received Smallville season-9 screeners, I never watched Smallville season-9 screeners. And I was already on my way back to L.A. before the Smallville panel began. Where are you getting this nonsense?
-
... that you didn't watch the Smallville season 9 screeners on purpose. I have decided this, therefore it is true. Don't confuse me with the facts, I've made up my mind. I don't really agree with you most of the time, but I like your article. Keep trucking, Herc... keep trucking.
-
How come the doctor let her daughter go run off through the halls of a major metropolitan hospital to get milk and cookies? And how come she wasted time fixing the stuffed animal when the guy doctor told her they were running out of room in the hallways for hospital beds? Shouldn't she be working on fucking patients? This show makes no sense. Don't get me started on the muffin lady, or the doctor's daughter crying about the little boy Oliver being hurt--when he was ten feet away! Why did she keep crying? She could have just walked 10 fucking feet to see if Oliver was all right! Which he obviously was! I won't be watching episode 3.

...that term!
-
But whatever.
-
Wondering where you were at. Hope you're doing okay.
-
Concur with Herc's assessment of FF, though I wouldn't equate it to Heroes-level suckage after only two episodes. There's still a chance for salvation. After perusing the ratings--is there really an audience for a game show about obese people? Dumbassification of America continues...
-
Some chick on Twitter was bad mouthing you unfairly then. Because she's a Warner rep, assumed she wasn't lying.
But is there a reason for the Smallville boycott? I mean, last night's episode was one of show's best, ever, and you didn't even cover it, despite it having Metallo, BAG and even future Superman (or Jor-El). You're not even covering production deets on Society, despite it having Hawkman and Atom... -
The evil and manipulative Russell makes that show just by himself, but then you also have Ben trash talking the "ghetto" woman with the "bad grammar". And then the Black guy taking the outraged moral stand and swaying his entire team to take down Ben. This is good stuff.
-
I was thinking the same thing. What a jerk not to tell her. Also, I think his weird voice is because he's having trouble covering his accent.
-
...fair enough and clearly due to my misunderstanding of what Coaxial is. I had thought it was a place for news and reviews, both good and bad, focused primarily on genre television. In that context the act of ignoring fairly popular genre shows would seem like a deliberate snub and something of a dereliction of duty. From your explanation (and thank you for giving it so nicely) I think I understand now that you consider this a more personalized column based on your own viewing preferences. You're not providing a news and opinion source for genre television but a sort of running blog of televison in which you're interested, along with some news bits. Perfectly valid, and in that case you're absolutely right, there are thousands of similar television columns. I thought Coaxial was a slightly different and somewhat more rare creature.

What chick on twitter? It's possible somebody's impersonating me to get screeners and invites. I'd be keen to straighten this out.
-
I apparently posted at least 20 "Smallville" stories over the last 18 months:
tinyurl.com/y9zpb2e
Going back further, I'd conservatively guess I've posted hundreds of "Smallville" stories here. -
I find it ironic that Hercules kisses Dollhouse's shitty, ratings-bottom-dwelling ass, now two episodes into a crappy, undeserved second season, and is already calling Flash Forward "terrible" after exactly two episodes. You know that show Dollhouse, right? The one where rich guys pay untold thousands of dollars just to be able to have sex with hot people who role play. Oh and sometimes rich people pay untold thousands to hire them to be a hostage negotiator, undercover cop, midwife, babysitter, etc., instead of- you know- just hiring people who are those things naturally. Wow, what a concept. Just my two cents though. -J.

would be a waste of a space on an All-Star edition. Like Johnny Fairplay, when your thing is being a lying, untrustworthy manipulator, it only works when people don't know you. On an All-star edition, everyone will be familiar with him and how he plays the game. No one will trust him and he'll be an easy choice to vote out first.

Let's see how Herc spins the THRASHING Smallville gave Dollhouse

Herc: just Google your name and "Twitter", comments are online s
by dizagaox
As for your coverage of Smallville, it's still pretty weak. The lack of coverage about yesterday's episode proves this.
Even the writers of SupermanHomepage - whom all-but-one despise the series and write horrific critiques - coverage all the latest developments, more so this year, because it's highly likely the next two years are not only Smallville's swan song, but the WB Superman franchise's swan song too. -
...okay, but Herc just explained above that Coaxial is not intended to provide coverage for genre television. Once the guy doing the column makes clear that the column's primary purpose is to give him a forum in which to write about the shows he likes further questions about why a particular show isn't getting more coverage are kind of moot.
-
i.e. Nobody apart from geeks and freaks watch it. It's 0.8 rating pretty much confirms this.
If Smallville and Supernatural (and even The Vampire Diaries, which is decent tele) are good enough for mainstream publications like EW.com, E! and TV Guide, surely they're good enough to warrant a talkback here. We're not talking about two or three different ones, just ONE for all of them. -
...this is Herc's column. As he wrote above, this column is not for geeks. It is not for genre fans. It is for the shows Herc likes. Dollhouse is covered because Herc likes it. If you happen to like (or dislike enough to comment on) a show Herc likes there will be weekly columns here waiting for you. If not, Herc has invited you to look elsewhere. He couldn't have made a more clear mission statement.
-
I guess that's easy for me to say, though, because we have near-identical taste and I happen to agree with you on most counts (for the record, I will also not be returning to "Smallville", which I willfully abandoned in the third or first season, and I'm not interested in "Supernatural", of which I watched most of season one. They both may well have gotten better; at this point, I just don't care.).
And at the risk of making things worse, I vote for more "undies" photos. Purely gratuitous, you understand. -
Just wanted to say that. Some of it can be funny, but...I don't belong there. I might turn to the Zone here if it picks up, but right now it's boring.
-
When I first saw it, I though, Shit, another crap reality show on the History Channel that has nothing to do with history. But it is kind of awesome, isn't it?
-
No luck with Google. Kindly just identify the WB rep or her twitter name so I can straighten this out.
-
I highly doubt there are more than a handful of them, so perhaps speak to her.
Plus: nice spin. Avoided the obvious comparison that SV on the CW >>> DH on FOX. -
I like the overall tone of the series so far, the mystery (which seems far more interesting than the book), and the characters. Is it perfect, of course not, no series is. For example, I foresaw this episode's death the moment they introduced a new smalltown character who won't be joining the general cast, who also didn't have a vision. Duh... And the guy in the can who says he didn't see anything...he was reading the news! He could have seen all sorts of useful info. And I have a problem with the sick kid in bed - how could he know and care about Olivia, when she didn't see him at all in that same 2 minutes, and her daughter apparently spent *her* two minutes with him and the bad guy? But regardless of the problems with it, I find it an entertaining show, and plan to continue watching it.
-
is, quite simply, super! It's the freaking apocalypse, people! Hell on Earth! What's not to love? Plus it's funny as hell, with good plots, characters. Is it scary? Not always, but there are some definitely creepy episodes, and most of those "spooky" shows, like X-Files, Buffy, Angel, Fringe, etc., aren't scary either. (With relatively few exceptions.) It's all about the actors, the characters they play and the stories for me. (and self-referential, self-deprecating humor) And Supernatural has got it all in spades...
-
While I haven't watched FlashForward yet, totally agree with you on David Goyer's dubious credentials. Still won't agree with you that SNL is that funny, but it is sort of getting better.
-
You know, the one your friend put together that was going to use talkback questions? Herc?
-
But it wasn't spectacular.
Feeling pretty vindicated by Fringe's ratings. It didn't go down like I predicted, but it's still in the basement. -
That's just weird.
-
Herc--i have been very outspoken about the supernatural talkback requests. I just want to say that i really appreciate that you actually acknowledged us...really that's all i wanted...it felt like you constantly ignored us out of spite, and in my heated posts about the issue, i repeatedly said if you just said something myself and probably others would put the issue to rest. What i really like is that you threw us a bone--by saying its ok to talk about only supernatural on one of your talkbacks is appreciated in its own right, but the best part of you saying that is the people who are sick of hearing us complain about supernatural... now instead of them having to tell us all to leave, we now have your blessing to discuss it wherever we want. So, thanks herc, i really appreciate the acknowledgment.
-
Fall for Hercs self trolling in EVERY article. You know its going to happen yet you Charlie Browns STILL end up on your collective asses when Lucy pulls the football away.Just so you understand:Charlie Brown= Pissy Tbers getting thier granny panties in a twist over Hercs repeated baiting that you fall for every time.Lucy= Herc.
-
He's not saying you can discuss supernatural in any of his threads. He's saying you can discuss it in any thread dedicated to thursdays ratings, since it's included with the ratings list.
It's still a bone, but not the bone you think it is. You still can't discuss SN in threads dedicated to other shows. -
please link to the twitter that gave you that info
-
Just talk about Supernatural in one of Harry's columns. They can always be improved by just about anything and he doesn't pay attention to them much anyway as long as you keep clickin' on those Amazon links.
-
Herc is now telling us what we are allowed to talk about in his coaxial posts? Really...
Is this the same herc who closed all talkbacks for his "buy these dvds" columns?
And regarding Supernatural everyone, I am glad it seems to have picked up a ton more fans; I don't want to overcredit myself or anyone else here, but I have been trying to get people to watch this for years, even posting in the Heroes talkbacks and saying "If you don't like heroes, I've got a better show for you to checkout. Comeon guys watch a few eps and see if you like it". Glad to see people have finally swallowed their pride to see its a really good show.
-
Her "columns" just one day dissapeared from AICN.. anyone know what actually happened? Did she lose favor with Harry?
-
they raised in previous episodes. Something Lost, BSG, Dollhouse, Fringe, Sarah Connor, 24, Heroes, never bother to do.
-
what Herc said on this subject the first time. Go read: http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_display/42374#comment_2896141
-
or something.
-
Bilbo, what the fuck are you talking about? Supernatural has 20% fewer viewers this season ... despite having a much stronger lead-in with Vampire Diaries. Learn how to read.
-
"Supernatural" ratings are actually way down this year.
-
I meant here, not worldwide. More people here seem to be watching and aware of it, whereas before, it seemed to be most people weren't watching it, or weren't aware of it, or had never seen it. There's an increase in talkbackers saying they watch it.

Herc: there aren't that many WB execs on Twitter called Chico
by dizagaox
You really could just search for yourself.
http://twitter.com/chico6
Though why do you need her personal Twitter? Can't you just company email her office?
Unless you're planning a public Twitter smackdown, this I gotta watch. I hope she tears you apart! :) -
The girl only started to like him because he took a F (instead of a C) so a senile man could get a self esteem boost. Both Joel McHale's character and the water filter (an admittedly funny joke) both need to get owned by someone with actual brains for the show to have a good ending.
-
I'm doing a little dance right now.
-
or maybe she simply got what she wanted out of it (magazine column and clothing line) and doesn't need to do it anymore.
-
Same old shitty art, but the story was ramped up.
-
Chico is Suzanne, who works for the CW. I know her, I have her email, she sends me stuff constantly. I'm looking for the warner bros. rep you say twittered about sending me season-9 screeners.
-
more importantly I want to see a link to that twitter. if it really exists.
-
Community took a big dive IMO. The opener and 2nd EP were decent (plus it being in the 1/2 hour zone after the office, while Fringe and Supernatty record) but if it gets moved to the less desirable 8p spot (as in not following The Office) _and_ the writing goes the way of EP 3, then yikes.
Fringe, was solid, but we're "fans" so I guess that means we forego rational, critical assessment.
We have Supernatural on deck for this evening, but we've been enjoying it more than FF and Fringe.
FF is OK. Some of the performances are decent, the overall premise is interesting, but the execution of the characters within the universe [of the premise] seems sloppy and illogical in many cases. Plus, a few times the lack of communication felt like LOST (you know, if the characters would just fucking talk, everything would be much easier to figure out).
The woman has been making some tequila concoction for the last 2 hours, so I disavow anything/everything is this post :^) -
It was the fact that he gave mouth to mouth to someone covered in urine. Still, I agree with you.
-
Grow a goddam pair, I mean, I'd do that in a heartbeat to save a life and wouldn't think twice about it being a big deal (or telling anybody).
I kind of agree they made that whole plot element sort of silly (it's like a 2nd grade poo-poo joke). -
Another fine episode, and it's always nice seeing Michael Shanks old lady get some work.
-
to mouth. Just do compressions.
-
Couldn't agree more, was just pointing out the actual reason. The show has no consistent never mind appropriate tone. They have got to shape up quick or that wonderful premise is going to go to waste.
-
great premise, sloppy execution
