Breck Eisner's Trailer for THE CRAZIES has a lot of spoilers... for those that haven't seen Romero's!

Published at:  Oct 02, 2009 4:00:38 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

Hey folks, Harry here with the first trailer on the remake of George Romero's THE CRAZIES. Now - here's the thing. I know most of you have never seen Romero's THE CRAZIES - which in my opinion is my favorite non-zombie Romero film - and is actually more fatalistic in some ways. That said, the trailer really seems to give you just about every story beat for the film. You can choose to watch it, or just ignore the trailer and know that it looks like a very handsome and well acted film from Timothy Olyphant & Radha Mitchell. SO - do know that if you're not familiar with the original film... there are big things to spoil with this film - knowing that - click below at your risk - and read talkbacks on this film at your own caution - cause we all know the folks that love spoiler subject lines.

Impossible for the remake to be any worse. I'll never get all the Romero love. He only made four decent movies (one of which, Creepshow, he never wrote).

From being used in trailers? Also why to give away major spoilers. Like the fact that hottie Danielle Panabaker is pulled from a car by a crazy. Looks like another horror film she won't survive this year after the "Friday The 13th" remake.

TRICK R TREAT HAS BEEN HORRIBLY OVERHYPED!!!FACT!!!

    by carlthormark1978

I’ve been hearing how this was the end all be all of Halloween Horror movies for a few years and it is most definitely NOT the case. The biggest draw, for me, was hearing that it was an anthology with interconnecting stories ala Creepshow meets Pulp Fiction. Taking a linear story, chopping it up and playing it from different perspectives, doesn’t impress me. I thought this movie was very generic from the lighting, to the direction to the acting. For those of you that think Anna Paquin is attractive, you need to get your fucking eyes checked. Her puggy nose, fucked teeth and wonky mouth killed by boner faster then a shotgun blast to the crotch. This chick should be living under a bridge, especially compared to some of the hot ass that was parading around in this movie.

I now understand why Warner Brothers was ready to bury this flick and I think that you’re all fucked in the head if you think this deserved to be released theatrically. This movie was PAINFULLY average in almost every way nor did it have sufficient gore or nudity to keep my interest.

Once again a case of internet sites hyping up the work of someone who’s been involved with some large scale movies (X-Men 2, Superman Returns) in the hopes that said Writer/Director will give them exclusives the next time he’s involved with another big budget studio flick and, considering that Singers career is on the downturn with SR and Valkyrie, I don’t think Michael Dougherty’s going to be involved with many more of those.

    Romero Love

    by mr. profit

Is just fanboys overrating his shit for no fucking reason. Night, Dawn, and the underrated Day are his 3 best works. The love Land of the Dead got on here was retarded. The same people praising it for having "thought provoking imagery" are the same people who were shitting on the Dawn remake. Which makes no sense. The Crazies is a remake I can get behind because the original wasn't all that great in my opinion. This looks like it will be a surprise the way "The Last House on the Left" remake was surprisingly well done.

I'm a big fan of the original, although I'd disagree and say that Knightriders is Romero's finest non-zombie film (or non-horror film, in general, but I still love it, and this looks to be shaping up into something very interesting.

    If you've seen the original...

    by petergriffin1fan

Saw a screening of this new one and finally rewatched the original after quite a few years. The original really focused on two stories, the five people trying to outrun the virus and the government and the government themselves trying to contain the virus. However, in the remake, they really only focus on the townspeople running for their lives. There isn't even much of an explanation as to the origin of the virus and why the government is trying to contain it. Just some insight on the new one. I didn't like it but the trailer was pretty well put together...some scenes weren't in the cut that I saw though.

Nobody's getting up and arms about remaking it because...

    by film_fanatic_in_the_original_black_and_w

...remakes are now commonplace, and generally accepted, even though 95% of them aren't worth watching to the film fans. But people who don't know any better (the general movie going public) go to see the these things without the knowledge, and the studios bank on that I think.

BTW, I love Martin too. It's my favorite "vampire" movie of all time. Second would have to go to...wait for it...Let The Right One In.

    by fireball xl-5

I'm looking forward to this, but doesn't it seem like a bit of a copout to make the crazies - at least the latter-stage ones - look like zombies? I don't know, it's as if they didn't have confidence in the material or their ability to sell just plain ol' murderously insane people. I mean, when you see one of these things there's no doubt about their condition, whereas in the original you usually didn't know until they went batshit on you. Remember the old woman with the knitting needles?

    by red ned lynch

...right up to the horribly made up "zombies". I'm with Fireball on this one. One of the things I sort of liked about the Crazies is that for Romero it was one step closer to "They are us" than even Night of the Living Dead, did. This takes it farther away and that's a shame. Particularly because the trailer at least makes it seem like someone put some real effort into this. And really, Harry, "most of you...". That sentence only works if it ends with "...and so probably reached this site accidently."

    Pass

    by thepilgrim

Love the original. This remake has the obvious slick production values, a big budget, pristine picture, more of the same yellow and blue digital gel effects crap to set tone and mood. I love the R.E.M. song, but it's ineffectual in the trailer. I really truly have come to loath remakes in general. I'll tell you that Halloween 2 was the last great one made till I'm blue in the face, and I know more than half- meaning most of the people who choose not to see it will tell me how nuts I am. I didn't like the original Halloween remake. Let's see before Halloween 2 the last remake I sort of enjoyed was night of the living dead 90 or Dracula, and yeah I'm dead fucking serious. No Romero remake has impressed me yet. I loath the Dawn remake. It doesn't hold a candle to the original. Why I liked Halloween 2. Simple, it really was different. The trailer for the nightmare remake shows what's so fucked up with these remakes in a general sense. They tell the same damn story they redo the same scenes. I don't want to see the same fucking thing I saw before. These people have total control to do it their own way, nothing is stopping them, but thinkers how have a burning itch to make a statement. Well they don't go after these properties. No, money hungry sluts do. Fuck Breck Eisner. Most of the storys new elements is ripped of from the story Ladies Night by Jack Ketchum.

You forget - this is the new world we live in, where telling someone that something is a horror movie is box-office poison. We're back in the late80s to early90s, where every horror flick was touted as being "more of a psychological thriller" or "a science fiction cautionary tale." So you WON'T see mention of this movie's horror origins - becsue horror is bad at the box-office (check out PANDORUM, which wore its horror roots on its sleeve, but then compare with ZOMBIELAND, which pitched itself as a kick-ass comedy that happened to have monsters in it).

    by thusspakespymunk

    Remake looks way better!!

    by mainman2001

Harry saying that most of us haven't seen the original movie is so stupid and arrogant of him. I own it and I really wish I didn't. I bought it only because I couldn't rent it anywhere at the time and I was going through my Romero phase. Anyway, the movie was absolutely terrible like most of Romero's films. Except for, Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead( which is his best no questions at all. I have never laughed so hard during a movie), and Creepshow. His shots are so terribly composed for the the most part it's a joke. Film school level for sure. Harry and most reviewers on this sight like really bad movies because they have personal relationships with the directors or they like the movie because no one else does. Zombieland is ok at best. Kill Bill 2 sucks. Plain and simple. It's long and boring with no end in sight. The remake looks way better but the Donnie Darko song is such a bad choice. Give me a brake.

    Worth the remake

    by jcrash

I thought the original as a movie really sucked, but had a lot of interesting ideas, so I'm actually happy to see this remade. It looks like the nailed the tone and look of this, and the acting seems 1000% better. I'm all for it. Could be a great movie. Wasn't feeling that "Mad World" song only because it's overused... but actually it works perfectly in context of the film... so I can see the argument for using it.

Fer fook's sake -- and, whatever, spoilers -- wasn't the whole point of _The Crazies_ that you never know who's crazy and whose not? Per Fire B. and RedNed, did we really need to _28 Days_ the fook out of these updated infected, jaundiced eyes and gaping maws, &c.? That said + as anti-remake as I am, I'm also a huge _Deadwood_ fan, and my live wood has long been a Rahda Mitchell fan, so I might just give this a throw. "Might".
