MTV Posts Preview of JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS!!

Published at:  Sep 30, 2009 3:13:00 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

The “Superman/Batman: Public Enemies” Straight-To-Blu movie came out yesterday with a preview of “Justice League: Crisis On Two Earths.” MTV has posted this preview (which inexplicably follows 60 seconds of very old Video Music Awards news):

The press release Harry posted two weeks ago:

Warner Home Video will distribute in Spring 2010 (finalizing date soon)

An original story from award-winning animation/comics writer Dwayne McDuffie (Justice League) rooted in DC Comics’ popular canon of “Crisis” stories.

Bruce Timm (Superman Doomsday, Green Lantern) is executive producer. Lauren Montgomery (Wonder Woman, Green Lantern) and Sam Liu (Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) are co-directors.

In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a “good” Lex Luthor arrives from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that threatens both planets and, through a diabolical plan launched by
Owlman, puts the balance of all existence in peril.

All-star voice cast led by Mark Harmon (NCIS) as Superman, James Woods (Ghosts of Mississippi) as Owlman, Chris Noth (Sex and the City, Law & Order) as Lex Luthor, William Baldwin (Dirty Sexy Money) as Batman, Gina Torres (Serenity, Firefly) as Super Woman and Bruce Davison (X-Men) as the President.

Now this is what I'm talking about. I saw Batman/Superman: Public Enemies recently, and although it had some good fights, the story was dumb, and the animation looked cheap. This looks much more like what I've come to expect from Bruce Timm and co.

..and as their isn't a talkback for Public Enemies, let me just say it was good for what it was, and what it was was junk food. And as the source material was junk food, that means the film was pretty on target.
Let me just say i really enjoyed the music score. If at all possible, i think they should either try to keep one composer for these projects or have a given composer emulate the character themes presented in earlier works. That would help to create an enduring conceptual theme the audience can identify with the character. John Williams Superman theme, Shirley Walkers Batman theme (which she totally co-opted from Elfman). We need more branding thru music like that.

    Earth 2, Justice Lords

    by mr.ftw

As far as Morrison's alternate earth scenario this is based off some that he in fact based his story on. An early DC crisis from the the 60s.
The difference between this and the Justice Lords is that although they may have been facists they were still "good guys" with what they though was the best interest of the people at heart. The alternate versions that make up the Crime Sindicate in this story are flat out evil versions. The end result might be similar but the startin point is conceptualy different.

    by continentalop

The idea of a superhero taking it too far was already explored in Superman: TAS when Lois goes to that Alternative future with Supes & Luthor.
Besides, I love shallow one-dimensional alternative Justice Leagues. I don't need some sort of philosophical differences - I want to see an evil Superman, an evil Batman, and an evil Green Lantern turning all their abilities loose for the wrong reasons. And that is what the CSA does.

Is a great Batman but his voice has been cemented in the DCAU and doesn't really work outside of the DCAU, Batman: Gotham Knight is case in point. Even in the new Public Enemies with the McGiuness style character designs Conroy's voice seems off. Until they make a unified animated universe different voices shouldn't matter.

I love a good fight as much as the next superhero junkie, but one of the reasons stuff like "Mask of the Phantasm" and "Return of the Joker" hold up is because there was a significant amount of plot and drama to them."Public Enemies" was, to a large degree, just one fight after another. And here's hoping James Woods reminds me more of "Hercules" than "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within".

But of course, you only get to yell things at a person with a (D) after their names, if you criticize someone with an (R), it's treason. by anakinsdiapers

..which is why some don't like it because the comic was fluff. Loeb was obviously channeling a full on fanboy chubby, because the entire first storyline was just a weak reason for Superman and Batman to beat up the DCU. I could just imagine him smashing his toys together narrating how kewl Supes and Bats are as they ass out the entire DC catalogue.
I remember reading the comic and getting more and more disgusted from issue to issue. When they beat up Hawkman and Captain Marvel OFF SCREEN and took their clothes i threw the comic across the room. Haven't picked up an issue since.

While someone already cited the inspiration being Earth 2 for this story, I have zero problem with that or the fact that whereas we may be on well worn ground where alternate versions of the Justice League are at work, the real interest will come in seeing the alternate Luthor and watching Superman have to come to grips with even contemplating that his worst enemy could turn up on the right side beyond mere selfish reasons.

What's with the changes in voice acting...

    by pitofbenders

with every god damn DC animated movie?!?!?! Seriously, though. Nothing takes me out of a cartoon movie more than when a voice doesn't sound the way it SHOULD sound. Conroy and Daly ARE Batman and Superman, and should NEVER be replaced in a DC made cartoon..PERIOD. What the fuck are they doing that they can't take a week or less to do the voice acting to make it the way it should be? I'm sure they would love to do it, and could use the money. Why the fuck is DC hiring on "bigger" ( and I use the term lightly, who the fuck wants a Baldwin in here anyways?) actors to take over these roles that we love so much with the already well established actors portraying these comic icons? I don't know why, and I don't want them to do it anymore.....fucking lame....BTW I still need to pick up Superman/Batman. I own most of the run of the comics and will own the DVD soon. Love what they did early on but it kind of fell off after awhile. But the first few arcs are great IMHO

    batmans voice

    by milamber495

Kevin Conroy is Batman. They should not keep changing the voices, but keep the continuity. If anything this makes me not want to watch it.

Just the opposite. People see these movie, get interested in the characters and stories, then buy comics.

Can't speak for other people and I don't watch FG, but JAMES WOODS has always been the man and my favorite actor.

I saw him walking down the street wearing shades and a chick was walking by and he did the drop my shades and wink bit - and her vagina exploded.

And shut up about the fucking voice acting.

    by sailor rip

Yes, Conroy is the best Batman voice but that doesn't mean he's cemented in the role for life in my eyes.

    robertplant ... owlman

    by animation

Owlman (the guy in this movie) is a DC character from 1964. He is Thomas Wayne Jr (Bruce Wayne's brother in a different dimension). Nite Owl from the Watchmen didnt come along until 1986. So, they are different characters, but Owlman precedes the Watchmen's Nite Owl by over 20 years.

Dc needs to make a normal length movie or call it an "episode".

    Superman/Batman:Public Enemy

    by hollywoodhellraiser

was terrible! The voice acting was the best, the fights were short, and the story was a 2-part episode of Justice League Season two!
I second the idea of bringing back the original voice casts of JL Season 1 and it wold leave some money to get the animation right!

    Yckbacker - Power Girl's tits...

by damned if i can login

There is actually an answer to your question about Power Girl's tits being so much bigger, but it's not related to anything in her backstory or whatever. It's related to an artist, Wally Wood. I don't recall the book (could be Justice League Europe, but not sure) he decided to draw PG with bigger and bigger tits as each issue came out. He says he was waiting for someone say something about it.Funny thing is, no one ever said anything...so her tits just got bigger and bigger. What's not to love?

    Just finished Public Enemies

    by maelstrom_zero

And it was kind of mediocre. But then again, I wasn't expecting much, mostly because the comic that it was based on was equally mediocre.
It seemed to me like the entire storyline was an excuse to have Supes and Bats fight a bunch of heroes/villains in some kind of fanwank deathmatch. Being a fan myself, I can understand the attraction. . .but the end product seems a bit underwhelming.

Yeah, the captain atom fight from the Tv series was much better. It's on youtube. Of course if the movie wasn't just 67 MINUTES there would be more time to fight.

in the movie and he said "Yeah and 22% of people said they'd like to get fucked up the ass by a red hot poker." That's pretty harsh for an animated feature, even if key words were bleeped.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS

    by archangel michael

Just like whenever they make a Superman movie, they should always use the score by John Williams, whenever a Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor movie is made with them in it, the original voice actors should always be used. And since this is a Justice League movie, they should have been using the original voice actors from the get go!!!
