L.A. Readers! We've Got Our Own Goddamn Screening Of ZOMBIELAND This Thursday!

Published at:  Sep 30, 2009 12:53:16 PM CDT

Beaks here...

You've read the raves spilling out of Fantastic Fest; now, you're finally gonna get to see what all the flesh-eatin' fuss is about!

This Thursday night (10/1) at The Grove, AICN will be hosting a free 7 PM screening of Ruben Fleischer's ZOMBIELAND! Normally, I'd use this paragraph to rave about how you can't afford to miss this film, but unlike all the other lucky fuckers who write for this site, I still haven't seen the damn movie yet!

Fine by me. As was the case with our wildly successful DISTRICT 9 screening, I'd much rather watch this thing in a theater packed with AICN-ers. Wanna join me? Shoot an email to zombielandlascreening@gmail.com ASAP, and give me your full name (and the name of your guest if you're bringing one). I'll post the list of 231 attendees tomorrow night (Wednesday) at 7 PM pacific.

Hope to see a bunch of you maniacs there!

    Sigh.

I still don't get when zombies became the concept of choice for comedy. It's slowly gotten to the point where pretty much everything containing zombies is presented in a "WHACKY ZOMBIE KILLING FUN" sort of way. The excuse is always "Oh well the whole zombie thing has been done to death so there's no choice now but to have it always be a source of comedy and mindless entertainment simply because no one's been able to make a serious movie about zombies in a long long time".Seriously? Is the lack of talented and original writers/directors in Hollywood really a reason to run a somewhat serious concept into the ground? Whenever something runs out of ideas, it always moves towards the realm of parody to "keep things fresh". I'm all for taking things in new directions, but I'm just sick of the same old tired routine of waiting until every drop of creativity in the film industry has been sucked dry in a particular genre or concept before feeling like the ONLY way to possibly continue making movies on said concept is to turn it into a big joke.Oh yeah, and this movie looks just awful.

But it's as fucking good as advertised. And the celebrity cameo's worth the price of admission. Is it better than SOTD? I think so, but your mileage may vary. And fuck me with a stone! Emma Stone, that is! Whooo wheee!!! I'm betting Emma Stone will be the breakout star from this Bile Fest. just watch.

I'm kinda with you on that, bub. But believe me, the gore factor is strong with this one.

On another note, are you familiar with Garth Ennis' fantastic zombie series, CROSSED? I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see that one done straight up, with only the humor from the book breaking up the nastiness throughout. CROSSED, if made right, could be the one movie to reinvent Zombie movies.

Why does L.A. get its own thread?

    by felwithe

California is the asshole of the universe, any thinking person knows that. If you're from CA, fuck you, fuck your wetback day laborers, and I hope you choke to death.

P.S, I hope those wildfires burn up everything you own and your children with it.

Yup, L.A. gets its own thread.

    by moley mole

Because our worst day here in L.A. is still better than your best day. I realize for you that only includes not getting kicked while you milk your cows and continuing to have your first cousin "keep a secret", but hey I'm a man of little judgement.

    by psimonsez

...I won't be able to go even if I got in. Where the hell did all this hate for LA come from? Yeah there are plenty of things to dislike about our city but you Nozzles Le Douche do realize this city (and surrounding areas) are where the deals for film are often sealed? It only seems to make sense that a screening is hosted here as so many often are. You guys are acting as if Beaks is giving Duluth, MN or Nome, AK it's own TB. (no disrespect to either city mind you!)

Again, no mention of first come, first serve or random selection. I'll post the list of 231 names. OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVEN'T LEARNED FROM THE DISTRICT 9 DEBACLE.

I'll never attend a Beaks run screening.
