Big Bow For FLASHFORWARD!! CSI Plummets Nutty 44%!! COMMUNITY & FRINGE Down!! SURVIVOR & VAMPIRE Up!! Thursday Ratings!!

Published at:  Sep 26, 2009 2:57:13 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

The networks were all finally at full strength with fresh episodes Thursday night; the 18-49 scores (last week’s scores are in the parentheses):

6.6 (1.8) Grey’s Anatomy
4.1 (---) FlashForward
4.0 (2.0) CSI
3.8 (4.1) The Office
3.7 (3.6) Survivor
3.4 (1.9) The Mentalist
2.8 (3.8) Community
2.7 (3.2) Bones
2.2 (3.1) Fringe
1.8 (2.0) SNL Thursday
1.8 (2.1) Parks and Recreation
1.7 (2.7) The Jay Leno Show
1.7 (1.6) The Vampire Diaries
1.2 (1.2) Supernatural

Figures in grey are for repeats.

* An episode of scripted television (like the “FlashForward” pilot) beating an original episode of “Survivor” at 8 p.m. Thursday is extremely rare. I think the “Ugly Betty” pilot may have marked the last time.

* “Survivor” and “Vampire Diaries” both increased their numbers slightly at 8 p.m. hour despite the arrival of “FastForward.”

* “CSI” was down a crazy 44% from its 2008 premiere. The newer “Grey’s Anatomy” was down only 11%.

* “Community” and “Fringe” both took big second-week dips, down 26% and 23%, respectively.

* “The Jay Leno Show” hit its series low Thursday to tie with the CW’s “Vampire Diaries.” Somebody predicted “Leno” could still make $300 million annually with a 1.5 rating, so I guess we’ll be seeing more of the same in primetime?

    by busterrantcasey

I watched the Pilot, and it was interesting, i felt like there were moments when it was really good and others when it was trying way to hard, my biggest problems with the Show were Casting, I only see harold when I see that guy and i thought the interrogation with him and that blonde women was laughable, not to mention that Fiennes guy, him in jeans and as a cop just pulled me right out of the story I only wanna see that guy in the 18th century with puffy shirts and oh so tight pants. I also had problems with the Scope why make the entire world black out or (flashforward)just so the show can focus on at the most 15 people, who you just know are the keys to why everyone blacked out,I feel like the biggest problems is the fact that it seems like ABC's answer to the last season of LOST. and all that aside i thin (flashforward) as a title is ridiculous, when a characters say "when i, flash forwarded" wtf? it ripped me right out of the show...

Man, I feel like all the fans have gone out on a limb for this show and so far the season hasn't hit the same note for note perfection that it had built up from seasons 3 & 4. Although, the last 10 minutes of last night's episode did return us to SN's natural glory, albeit however brief. I think someone from last week's talkback hit the nail on the head when they said that Sam just doesn't play 'remorseful for starting the apocalypse' very well. I tend to agree.Next week's episode looks good though.

That shows a winner. Parks and Rec was a little better, mainly due to the hernia plot. Amy Poehler is still very miscast and her role is too much like a female Michael Scott. And they really need to ditch those talking heads when there's no documentary going on.

I actually thought they hit that one out of the park. They havent really ratched everything up to what everyone was expecting but I think every episode has been better then the last so far this season. The Castiel/Dean team up was beyond awesome. I particularly like how upset Dean gets every time there is a chance someone could die a virgin. I also think Collins was hilarious this episode. The fish out of water thing was funny and his facial expressions really sold the situations. I am really looking forward to next weeks episode.

    by yackbacker

But yeah, some of the acting was off (particularly Harold, who cannot project intimidation onto a squirrel if his life depended on it). But I love the back-up actors- Courtney B. Vance and the FBI chick analyst. I think it has potential, but if every episode is going to show 3 minutes worth of Joe Fiennes' flashforward (like how the VOLTRON cartoon showed 3 minutes of the lions turning into Voltron, or how HE-MAN showed 3 minutes of Adam turning into... He-Man) then I worry for its future.

Joseph Feinnes isn't a great leading man. His acting is passable at best. Asian Star Trek/Harold and Kumar guy is the best actor on the show. I kept thinking how much better it would be if he was the lead.

    by crow3711

Why did they feel the need to pit it against all of the huge heavy hitters instead of letting it thrive in a less competitive market. Isn't a really successful show on a less popular night more rewarding for a studio than a moderately popular on the most crowded night in tv history? Why make it compete with all this? I agree with the guy who said FOX hires from the special needs school. They're fucktarded.

I thought they wrapped up season 1 nicely-- it answered all of the season's major questions, and opened up new possibilities at the same time.

They got 1 season with Fishburne and viewers aren't going for another one with him. Community's pilot was great, but the second episode wasn't anywhere near as good as the pilot. I loved almost every minute of it. The promo was terrible, though. And really didn't make clear when the premier was taking place. I was actually surprised during Survivor (which is definitely "on" this year) when I realized it was on next. That frozen action scene with the slow music worked great to open the show, but it just didn't grab your attention as a commercial. Too wallpapery. Hopefully the audience will return, because I think they did a good job of addressing some of the issues during all the recent staff changeover (including Riley, who left during the off-season). Interesting story threads were started and it ended with a weird Pulp Fiction kinda cliff hanger (that doesn't appear to get answered next week). Anyway, babbling for sure. Really digging Survivor and CSI was great.

It sure seems like you're right that Fox doesn't want this to work. My question is, why do they keep buying shows like this and even some comedies only to make them fail seemingly on purpose. Anyone in here know enough about the tv biz to explain this to me. Sounds like when Kramer said on Seinfeld that companies love to "write it off"--but how does that work and how does it benefit them? Fox seems to love creating failures by moving shows.

    A few thoughts

    by rob0729

1.)I was surprised they brought back SNL Thursday considering that SNL usually does boffo numbers during election years and slides in non-election years. Without Sarah Palin impersonations, I knew SNL Thursdays would tank. I am betting that tonight's episode will be down from last year's premiere too.

2.)The 9PM hour is too crowded. All four majors bring out their big guns and all, but Grey's has suffered from it. I think now that they wrapped up the death of George if they will maintain the numbers though.

3.) Leno is dangerously reaching that 1.5 share mark that executives say is the threshold of profitability.
4.) Parks and Recreation has improved, but still is a shell of the Office which has been kinda coasting itself for a number of years.

5.) I don't get the Community ballwashing. I think the show is ok, but nothing special.
6.) I think Fringe did itself a disservice to totally not address what happened in the alternative universe right off the bat. I think they had fans tuning in to see more of the other universe and the first two episodes have only given lipservice to it. The past episode went back to the "monster of the week" format.

7.) While on the subject of Fringe, the show runners need geography lessons big time. Coming from Massachusetts, I know they get a lot wrong (for example putting a river in a town with no water within miles of the town). But Thursday's episode stretched all semblence of reality. They made the driving from Boston to Pennsylvania seem like a nice hour drive with Peter and Olivia driving back and forth several times. A drive to even the closest parts of Pennsylvania from Boston is 5-6 hours each way. I actually looked it up and Lansdale, PA to Boston is 5 and a half hour drive without traffic. I know it is a small thing, but these types of things drive me crazy.

I haven't watched Fringe this season yet...

    by turketron_2

I used to watch it live on Tuesdays, but now that it's on Thursday I can't be bothered. FUCK FOX for moving the timeslot. I do have the episodes queued up to watch though, just gotta make time. Been keeping up wtih Supernatural, still awesome as ever and this week's final act was really good. I watched the premiere of FlashForward, I'm liking it a lot and was glued to the screen the whole time.

Not surprised by Community of Fringe . . .

. . . after their underwhelming and over-hyped premieres last week.

    FlashForward

    by captainbass

Interesting concept, but the acting (Joseph Fiennes is a plank!) was sub-par and the least said about the cheap as fuck CGI tanker explosion the better. However, I'll keep watching, because 90% of UK TV is just awful (Yes, I download US TV from t'interweb. I don't want to wait ages to see something thats been on US TV for months or years promoted as "new" ala "How I Met Your Mother") "Fringe" is good, despite the last episode being a total "X-Files" clone.

    Fiennes and Walger on Flashforward

    by throwmetheidol

The problem is that when forced to take an American accent they lose half their charm and personality. This is so common, happens all the time. Producers see a good foreign actor and assume that if they cast them as an American they'll retain that charm but they rarely do. I'll still keep watching FF but just sayin'.

But I really hope it just tells its story and goes. Despite effort, I cant really get into Fringe. I wouldn't call that last episode an X Files clone so much as a rewritten episode that never aired.

    Im cautiously optimistic about Flashforward

    by itchy

It's got an interesting premise, the acting was decent and the production values stellar. I hope it's the inheritoy to ABC's top drama slot after Lost departs. That being said, I'm ready for it to plummet down a vortex of suck, since that turdy ass-clown Brannon Braga is involved.

    FRINGE IS UNCOMPROMISINGLY GAY

    by taintlick

SO, SO, SO FUCKING HORRID. IT'S LIKE THAT LAST SEASON OR 2 OF XFILES ONLY WORSE. IF THAT'S EVEN FUCKING POSSIBLE.

    Curious about ratings

    by scopa

Do networks consider Tivo/DVR recordings, or views on Hulu, fancast, or even the networks homepages?

I wonder what the ratings would look like if those things are part of it.
