In Addition To GALACTICA And EXCALIBUR, Bryan Singer Is Directing A Fast-Tracked JACK THE GIANT KILLER?? Seems So...

Published at:  Sep 23, 2009 9:45:40 AM CDT

Merrick here...

Bryan Singer will direct JACK THE GIANT KILLER for New Line & Legendary Pictures.

Despite already being attached to reinventions of EXCALIBUR and BATTLSTAR GALACTICA, sounds like JACK may actually be his next film.

The story, by Mark Bomback ("Live Free or Die Hard"), is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.
[EDIT]
“Killer” is most likely to be Singer’s next movie. TThe project has no start date but is being fast-tracked.

...says THR HERE.

Bomback also scripted RACE TO WITH MOUNTAIN and LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD. Neal Moritz will produce.

Watch none of these projects get made

    by yackbacker

It's downright silly watching Singer load up his plate like this. The guy could barely survive SUPERMAN RETURNS' schedule of shooting and post-production. What a joke.

    by lastofthev8interceptors

First, I thought someone was doing Brereton's "Giantkiller" and got really excited.. then I saw that it was Singer and I got upset. But yeah, go ahead and make this other thingy. It'll keep him busy and maybe that silly Excalibur idea will get shelved.

The Battlestar Thing Will Never Happen

    by crow3711

I stand by that. They must have seen the intense negative reaction from fans, and the incredible disinterest from people who don't know what Battlestar is. That was one piss-poor idea that will never actually come to fruition. Maybe he'll end up making a sci-fi epic, but he'll call it something else, I guarantee.

And The Franco Movie Isn't Princess Bride

    by crow3711

It doesn't even sound like The Princess Bride. It's call "Your Highness" and yea, its a midevil comedy with knights and princesses etc, don't ever...ever equate it with The Princess Bride. The day that gets remade is the day I stop watching films. I won't stand for it. If anyone ever remakes the Princess Bride or The Wizard of Oz, I quit. Just leave them the fuck alone. They would fucking suck anyway.

On the other hand, I personally think Your Highness sounds fucking awesome. Danny McBride is ridiculusly hialrious, and David Gordon Green is an excellent director who already proved he can get a fun and unique performance from Franco. I'm looking forward to it. You scared the shit out of me with Princess Bride remake talk though. Thank god that isnt true.

Actually they did remake Wizard of Oz. It was called The Wiz and starred Michael Jackson. And I would think one of the single most foolish things to do right now, as far as making movies are concerned, would be to make a Battlestar Galactica movie that ignores the recent TV series and opts for the 70's series as a leaping off point. not that it's a bad idea in and of itself, but the timing of it would be head-scratching.

That was a great comic! Nope, this movie will be about being a gay. At least he is not spreading gayness on a beloved comic or sci fi property.
Some one needs to get this guy some Authority comics so he can have fun with super fags instead of awkwardly shoe horning a gay agenda into it.

Can't Singer come up with something original?

    by gunsandsmoke

Has anyone ever played the PS2 game "Shadow of the Colossus"? This is pretty much the exact same plot...

(A young man named Wander who must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen beings, simply known as colossi,to restore the life of a girl named Mono.)

I think Singer is talented - no doubt. But this guy hasn't directed original content since The Usual Suspects... The BSG movie just pisses me off.

Actually it is very smart to make a small film...

    by bones

Singer needs to return to his roots to get people interested in him again.
A low-to-mid-budget film with a GOOD script and cast that he can just focus and knock out of the park will get him back in the A-Game, project wise.
And to everyone who thinks he is a hack, remember The Usual Suspects, X-men 1 & 2, Apt Pupil and parts of Superman Returns and Valkyrie...
Also--Anyone who is afraid that they can catch "The Gay" from watching his films needs to shut up and fetishistically wash his hands with Purell--our your eyes, actually, since that is how you see his movies...

Semantics, bro'. One man's remake is another man's reboot. Is another man's retool. Is another man's re-imagining. I make it easy on myself. If it follows basically the same plot, it's a remake. But to each their own.

Because people don't hate him enough already. You're a talentless hack who got lucky once. It's hard to make a bad movie with Byrne, Del Toro, and Spacey. The obnly thing Brya nSinger deserves credit for as a director is somehow getting a good performance out of Stephen Baldwin.

The average response every time this poor fella's name is mentioned around here is so depressing. Yes, he's gay. I thought I was the only one who noticed that! How does that happen?? The original was close to photorealistic at times.. the new one looked like he was made of playdough. This is what kept pulling me out of the story. That fight at the end looked like two piece of clay being thrown together.

    I hope this allows itself

    by mockingbuddha

to be influenced by the Jack of Fables comic. In fact, in the comic the legendary Jack himself, (Horner/be-Nimble/and the Beanstalk/Sprat/Frost/and Jill) went to Hollywood and Produced an epic trilogy based on his exploits. I think one of those movies was called Jack the Giant Killer. The Jack in the comic breaks the fourth wall, scams everybody, gets laid a lot by lying and basically has a good time whilst making everybody hate him. Very enjoyable, but I'm sure it won't be that way in the movie. Too bad.
