X-MEN 4?? A NEW MUTANTS Film Also?? Lauren Shuler Donner Wants 'Em...
Merrick here...
Lauren Shuler Donner spoke to /film about an X-MEN: FIRST CLASS film adaptation we heard about a while back (HERE) - basically stating that it wasn't as far along as some recent rumors had suggested.
But then the conversation headed another direction:
As well as the eventual New Class, then - whenever that might be - Shuler Donner revealed that she has been cooking up plans for several other mutant films. The two she named? An X4, reuniting the X-Men and a big screen outing for The New Mutants. X4, she said, had yet to be pitched to the studio, however.
...says /film HERE.
I'm assuming the first line of the above quote meant "First Class" - not "New Class" - but I presented it verbatim all the same.

Day Man. Fighter of the Night Man.
-
...see subject heading.
-
...the fact you care makes YOU the homo.
-
And your mother never complains?
-
X Men 4 will be awesome. Wolverine is the most underated film of the year!
-
They should go in a different direction and make a new one that does not suck. Just to see what the reaction might be.
-
That you tried to Correct her and didnt even spell first right.
-
No, she doesn't. But yours does... when I finish on her hairy back.
-
Yeah, my first asshole-ish bad spelling reply!!! Anyway, no doubt there are several hundred X-Men movie "pitches" in the works, but few will likely get anywhere near production.
-
I didn't know everyone here was a Megan Fox hater.
-
I th x-men films. Yeah, sure, they got their flaws, but I like them, lots of fun. I really do not care how faithful they are to the source material or not, as long as they look cool and have some decent action. You nerds on this site care waaay too much about film adaptations. IF you don't like the way the studios make your beloved comics into movies, then make them yourself! Or, just don't watch them!
-
It has the best Blu Ray picture I've seen to date. Liev is what really makes Origins watchable. He did great as Victor.
-
fuck these origin movies, bring back the whole cast, settle the xavier death issue, hire singer and give us his intended third x-men movie
-
Maybe they can make him as interesting as in the comics. If he reappears.
-
FOX is sitting on a HUGE money bag... get someone on X4 who is a decent director... re-cast Storm... forget the shittiness of X3 ... get the movies up and going again!
-
...to being a punch line for shitty one's. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
-
You are on a nerd site talking about nerd movies. Hence, you are a nerd. And sadly, a nerd with poor taste an low standards. X1 and X2 (especially) were pretty good films, the last 2 installments were not. I'm just hoping they make better movies.
-
then you need to go ahead and read some comics... Origins was as shittier than T4 and the Matrix sequels.
-
I understand that Disney has given the people at Fox the chance to finish anything Marvel related which was in pre-production.... I guess this was one of them...seriously....they should consider canning the whole thing. X3 was an absolute catastrophe and Wolverine was not great...

Not great (speaking of Wolverine) is being nice really...
by charabicharabia
Come one guys.... it had the "Nooooooo!!!" scream pan out shot..... Just like in Pearl Harbor ...and of course....Team America.... dear oh dear
-
I hope Jack Kirby's family gets the right back from Marvel and whoever else, especially Fox! Kirby created the Marvel Universe and they screwed him over bigtime in return. His kids and grandkids deserve something and I hope they get it.
-
That is, specifically:
*make Charles Xavier NOT dead
*make Cyclops also NOT dead
*Jean may or may not need to still be alive
As for the mutant power "cure", in case anyone wasn't paying attention, at the end of the film X3 itself its revealed that the effects were only temporary. -
I'm in! As long as they keep to the early team and don't go all Rictor, Warpath, Domino, Shatterstar, Feral, etc. Stay away from the Rob (why can't he draw feet?) Liefeld era and I'm good. Oh, and introduce Illyana in X4 (and her disappearance) so she can join the New Mutants in their movie. One more thing, don't have them call themselves the New Mutants; it worked for the title of the book but as a team name it is lame.
-
Nobody wants you making X-Men films anymore, least of all the fans.
-
The plan. Shoot X3 and X4 back to back. Bryan Singer. Dark Pheonix saga. Fox - shock horror. Showed lack of vision and muffed it.
Next... -
Have Phoenix rise from the grave and ACT LIKE PHOENIX! Have Phoenix bring Cyclops back to life and under her control. Have Rogue struggling with her mutation returning. Have Xavier back in his twin brother's body work with the other X-men to bring Phoenix back to the good side! And lastly, have BRIAN SINGER direct the film!!!

I love Wolfsbane and Magik from the New Mutants comic
by margot_tenenbaum
...so I'm thrilled that they're considering a NM film. You could make a good movie from either of the major Chris Claremont & Bill Sienkiewicz stories: Demon Bear or Legion and then make a X-Men/New Mutants fusion film with the X-Men in Asgard story. The first 50 issues of NM are pretty underrated comics, IMO.
Warlock could be really interesting looking on film if they resist the urge to make him a cartoon and use the totally alien, constantly shifting, angular, black-with-yellow-neon-highlights Bill Sienkiewicz version. -
shitty X-Men films. None of the X-Men films are great but whatever heart the first two films had was clearly because of Brian Singer. X3 and Wolverine are garbage and, while I havent quite proven this scientifically, people who like them are agents of Satan himself. Seriously what good could possibly come from this god awful production team making some unwatchable CW like mess, with that terrible CW media whore Josh Schwartz, with an awful CW cast making an X-Men first class movie? Anyone who wants taht and claims to be a fan of these properties is either an idiot or a fucking liar.
-
Wolverine was one of the worst movies I've ever seen! WOLVERINE WAS A KIDS MOVIE!!! WTF WAS CYCLOPS DOING IN THE DAMN MOVIE!?

"You Know What"...

Anyone who wants X4 or liked Wolverine should be banned
by industrykiller!
Because they are clearly a terrorist.
-
can somehow be FIXED through clever writing? None of these films have great writing, it would take a work of staggering genius to bring characters back to life and make Hugh Jackman actually start playing WOlverine, and reset the status quo as well as have its own stand alone story. Why would any self respecting X-fan even want that??Reset the franchise, the cast has never been terribly great and the direction of the film never really captured what the franchise is all about anyway.
-
But, like 15 years ago? MICHAEL BIEHN.
-
...then a New Mutants Origins: Cypher franchise.
-
Let's make more! Of course they could always ruin another Marvel property...
-
Then reboot X-Men.
-
You guys critizice X3 more than it deserves (and it deserves a lot) only because you hate Bret Ratner, but all things considered, X3 is a better film. It's also better that Supes Returns, wich is quite ironic.
For the record, I think X3 was a total waste, but you gotta be objective guys -
I believe as long as they keep using the characters, the deals are completely open ended.
-
but if you're 12 and have acne....perhaps you saw something in it you liked... Maybe it was that sound boom clapping emo boy? Yeah...he was real cool...f(*&ing hell....
-
How will Marvel and Disney seal their contract and stop Fox? Fox probably has about 25 Marvel films in pre-production at the moment...

Introducing X4: Revenge of the Feral Mega Awesome Ninja Mutant H
by zahaladeen
...sorry you pigfucking exploitive douche-carts that still want to mine my childhood for all its worth, but your not getting a fucking nickel out of me.
Marvel/Disney = Marney can blow goat crotch. They can take their formulaic pieces of drivel and beat them into the minds of lesser mortals if they wish. Pandering to peasants only gets you one thing: anal seepage.
Have fun with that. -
Just like Aliens, the series ends with X-Men 2 for me. X3 might as well be a fanfic.
-
The only decent hearted big wig at Disney just quit. Next X-men directed by Michael Bay and Produced by Disney.... it's all the same
-
Yes they do. Now the fun part will be to see what happends on the long run.
Is FOX going to keep making X-men films no matter what, just to retain the rights (Roger Corman's F4 style) or are they going to reach a point were they find more profitable to sell back the franchise to Disney/Marvel?
I hope for the second posibility, but the x-universe is so rich, that I can't see FOX giving it away in the next decade. -
That's right, Jack "The King" Kirby's family has notified their intent to sue for the copyrights to their father's works, which include X-Men and Fantastic Four. It's complicated, but the copyrights won't be up for those titles for about another 10 years, so it won't be happening immediately. Basically, this is falling under the same copyright issue as the creators of Superman vs. Time Warner. So Fox might just have to renegotiate the rights to X-Men or maybe, just maybe they'll go to a more deserving studio, say, Disney...?
-
I give up on humanity.
-
One empty, vapid comic property directed by one empty, vapid director. Never before was there such a perfect match. Plus, today's computer technology could properly realize those skinny Liefeld ankles.
-
I'm not sure if you're talking to me, but I'm 27. I do have some acne in my back, thou. Anyway, I never said i "liked" X3. I only said it was better that Wolverine. Both are huge missed oportunities, but X3 is more entertaining. Plus, if you don't give a shit about the Phoenix Saga, like I do, that movie doesn't hurt that much.
-
...wanting to drop this franchise anytime soon. Why on earth would they? They also get to create their own characters, like they did in Wolvie and probably 'First Class' and this 'New Mutants.' If one of those characters happens to catch on a little, then they have to share nothing with Marvel.
-
Perhaps a fresh Fox Executive corpse for every Marvel property they even CONSIDER producing would motivate them to sell the rights back to Marvel/Disney. Perhaps some Bullseye-inspired hits for starters....
-
Cable, Bishop. Use Longshot(sweet mullet). Mojo as the bad guy. Forget the past and move on. Cross the Running Man with the X-Men and off you go. This shit writes itself
-
I have to agree with most people here, the X-MEN films (include WOLVERINE-hell all the X-movies were about Wolverine!) weren't good. I tried to liked the, damn did I tried but they were just so bastardized by Hollywood I just couldn' get into them. Have some one that knows the material and knows what they are doing. Look at what happens when you let the RIGHT PEOPLE do superheroes-IRON MAN and THE DARK KNIGHT. Get the fucking point Hollywood. Let people that know what the fuck they are doing and let them do it right. Suck Hollywood.
-
Just bring on Cannonball, man - that's where it's at. New Mutants is the best idea out of this lot since X2.
-
Plus new X-films
-
blah blah blah, internet community like me now i'm cool because i hate the things you want me tooyou fucking posers!
-
I don't see what all the hate is about. I have been reading X-Men comics since I was 9. I have more than an entire long box of X-Men comics, as well as half a box of just Wolverine comics. I know the universe and the characters. I found Wolverine to do a decent job providing background to the Marvel movie reality's Wolverine, while also offering some kickass superhero action and not dishonoring the comics.
Sure there were tons of problems, but none of the X-Men movies have been perfect either (well, maybe X-Men 2). It seems to me that most of the hate was misdirected. If you come to a movie called X-Men Origins: Wolverine expecting any kind of depth you're an idiot.
I'm very interested to see what the Usual Suspects guy could do with the next Wolverine movie. There is potential for it to be better than the first one, but again I don't see why the first one is getting so much hate. -
Tom Rothman....is that you?
-
Would be a great X-Men comics storyline for Fox to rape. It's got everything: time travel, sentinels, a mutant war. (Of course, the comic centers around the assassination of Senator Kelly by Mystique, who are dead and de-mutied in the movies, respectively, but I'm sure some quick changes could get around that problem) It seems like a no-brainer, to me...
-
But thanks for the attention ! I could always use more attention.... ok let's make a deal here: I will always hate X3 a little more than Wolverine and you can hate Wolverine a little more than X3...I will take absolutely no offense to it as Wolverine was pretty crap.
-
Starring the perfectly cast Patrick Warburton and Nestor Carbonell.
-
You might have had a point (somewhere) if it wasn't for the fact that those movies are festering piles of dogshit that pander to the lowest tastes possible. It's ok though Jett, a lot of people have horrible taste. Enjoy what you like, just don't be surprised when someone calls a turd a turd.
-

Wow, so instead of concentrating on birthing ONE turd at a time.

We are getting a whole pot full of steamers hurled at us. Go Fox!

Toy Story 7 ??? The wrath of the "made in China" Marvel Toys....oh wait maybe it could also be Chucky 17? Oh boy I'm digressing now....
-
not liking them is not a fad, it's an autonomic response
-
.. unless they give me the original line-up in their original forms. Yeah, I liked bigfoot Hank. I'm silly that way... and the Kirby thing, they've said (via lawyer) that it's not their intention to shut down anyone. They just want their chunk like Lee is getting. Sounds fair to me.
-
Let's see how mercilessly Fox can ruin the rest of the franchise!
-
mirror had to be the worst CGI ever needlessly shoehorned into a movie. You can't do that with practical F/X? NOTE TO HOLLYWOOD: practical>cg. Weapon 11? Really? Lets loose the hood sew his mouth shut and make the swords come out of his hands like wolverines claws. DUMB. Glad I didn't pay to see this shit.
-
What a waste. If they do first class, they have to do it right. Cyclops, Beast, Marvel Girl, Angel, Iceman, all as teenagers. Or just follow my advice and do First Class as a series. Buffy + Smallville. It's so easy. DO. IT.
-
I still think he's not dead. If I don't see him die on screen, there will always be a way to bring the character back. Besides, its a comic book movie, they bring dead people back to life all the time. *cough* captain america
-
New Mutants comics revival with resurrections of Cypher and Illyana + Disney buying Marvel. 2+2...
-
when they came out, but as better superhero movies have been made, they don't hold up as well. X3 and Wolverine were just big, giant messes made with the sole purpose of making money. I understand that that is every studio picture's ultimate goal, but with those two there was absolutely no other motive involved. I guess in that respect they were successful, but I wouldn't pay to see them in a theater.
-
starring ryan o'neal as mutant barry lyndon

check out this "hero"; it's the story of a comic book fanboy whose life is forever changed by Batman, Oprah, and Dr. Phil...

Oh God I tried to forget about that movie but this brought it right back. Fox needs to give over the rights to X-men now! So they can stop fucking everything up.
-
pre-credits sequences: xavier wakes up and realizes that everything from X3 was just a dream. cut to: credits. then let's have the bryan singer directed X3 we were supposed to have from the start.
-
If you cocksmoking fucking morons hadn't actually paid to see that fucking abortion of a Wolverine film, we wouldn't have to hear about the continuation of this fucking abomination of a fucking Fox franchise.
-
only if they show us the Sienkiewicz bear.. the one that filled the sky.... that'd be something..
-
I would rather watch Jubilee Origins than X4. Where could you take it? Retcon the entire 3rd movie? Intro Sinister or AOA? The X-Men movies were all a bit weak (even X2 with that lame lady deathstrike) We need Kitty Pryde/Colossus/Nightcrawler love triangle mixed with Wolverine being silent but deadly, Gambit being fucking cool, and Storm with a white mohawk leading the team and proving it's more to that strong character than Halle in pleather. If you can't do that, just move on to an X-Force movie and blow shit up for 2 hrs.
-
low overhead when you dont have to pay for the high profile names that come with XMEN now and they can cater to the TWILIGHT geeks...im begging DISNEY to end these shenanigans ASAP.
-
He pays attention to quality and detail in a way no other Marvel director has. What I liked about X2 so much was I did not feel bombarded by crappy CGI, it was the perfect blend of live action footage mixed with appropriate CGI. He's not a lazy director, with X2 he made a solid Marvel movie. I only wish he could have made X3 because I know he would have presented the Dark Phoenix in a more impressive way, the wings of fire and all that. Angel would have looked alot better too I'm sure. I can forgive changing the source material a little as long as its justified and makes for a quality film rather than a shitty Cashcow like Wolverine was...no more of those please.
-

these new X films will be streamlined just as muchas WOLVERINE w
by six demon bag
New Mutants (if it ever happens) will NOT be the classic book we all love to remember...it will be a whos who of young hip characters that FOX think audiences will like..and they might not even have the correct names and/or fucking powers...(re: wolverine)..an insult to all..if FOX is truly making films just so Disney cant make films, then this is truly sad news..for they will run it into the ground with no remorse until they is no goodwill left for comic films.
-
I gotta give them credit for cranking out a movie that was NOT that bad considering the circumstances, last minute Brett Ratner, rushed production, etc . To think I can honestly have that movie playing in the background while Superman Returns is collecting dust in the background. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Superman Returns was a piece of shit. X3 was tolerable tho. But Wolverine was a piece of shit. If they do another X-Men movie, I hope they quit with the Pre-Quel Treatment.
-
Please cast this bombshell.
-
Amen brother. I wish they would just start fresh. In fact, I wish they would leave the letter "X" and the word "Men" completely out of the title. Fans will know what it is and kids will still be drawn to the movie. I hate to tell everyone but..WOLVERINE IS DEAD! Fox killed him. The character is over done. All opportunity with this current incarnation of characters has been used, misused and basterdized (Deadpool). Havoc, Banshee, Forge there is any # of places to mine from. MOVE ON! I know we will still see the same ass hats begging to see Brian Dennahey in the new Rambo movie also begging for their Hugh Jackman but fuck...get over it.
-
Here is my paraphrased version: Producer with a commodity wants to continue making money with said commodity. The X-MEN franchise started out mediocre and went downhill fast. Hopefully in 5 to 10 years the studio will take the BATMAN BEGINS/THE DARK KNIGHT route and have a complete reboot with new talent behind the camera.

Multicharacter sequels would be financially unviable to make
by wayne6000
If they mean more sequels with actors like Pat Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Ben Foster, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, Aaron Stanford, Shawn Ashmore, etc. it'd be awesome to see - if Fox had shrewdly signed them all to a 10 film contract (at the same salary) at the start, but Fox stupidly only made them sign on for 2 films.
To make an X-Men 4, they'd have to pay a 100 mill (or very close to it) just in actor salaries alone (especially from the first 7 actors), from all the actors all understandably wanting higher payments, so it's not viable.
X-Men 3 cost Fox $US 200 mill and made money, but not as much as they would've liked. -
Throw in Puck and that's all you need.

1. Pretend X3 never happened. Or, if need be, play it off like the whole thing was Xavier having a dream, an ill omen of the potential future. Bring back most of the cast (see #3) and tell the REAL Dark Phoenix story.
2. Get Bryan Singer to write/direct, along with the writers from X2.
3. Re-cast Storm. Halle Berry had no business being cast in the first place, and her pissy primadonna bullshit and demands for more money make her an easy and obvious cut where budget is concerned. The role should have gone to Angela Bassett from the very beginning.
4. Keep Kelsey Grammer as Beast. It was the only bit of casting that actually worked for X3. (Really, what was the fucking point of Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut? With hardly any lines, there are any number of steriod freak wrestlers/UFC fighters who could have filled the role without the need for foam muscle enhancement. And considering they didn't even bother with the half-brother connection to Xavier, it's not like making the character British was important.)
5. Fox needs to grow a set of balls that will give them the confidence to support X-Men as a proper franchise. Meaning, they should be fully prepared to tell a more epic, complex, layered story over 2-3 movies (each around 2:30-2:45 hours) rather than trying to wrap everything up nicely in a single 100-minute easily digestible pellet for the ADD masses. -
the X-Men, still sad over the deaths of cyclops, professor x, and jean gray/phoenix, travel back in time and kill Mathew Vaughn before he can select that God awful script and then kill Bret Ratner before he murders all character development and actually goes through with that piece of shit script.
-
...was the best thing in Wolverine. He actually played the character waaay better than anyone else played their character. Hugh Jackman was greatly cast as Logan in the first two X-Men movies (especially the first), but then he turned soft by the third. He played Logan the same way in Wolverine as he did in X3, which didn't fare well with myself.
-
Play the game X men Origins: Wolverine. I'm sure it's way better than the film.

so long as Wolverine remains front and center of the
by jackknifed_juggernaut
X-Men, i'll have nothing to do with it.
Cyclops = leader.
Wolverine = not. -
I'll always come here for.... some reason. But Harry's taste is up his ginormous ass. Harry loves Eagle Eye and Drag Me To Hell. Harry cried at Armageddon. Harry thought Matrix Reloaded was great because the Oracle mentions "vampires, and werewolves." I could go on.
-
and I'm there.
-
Like the Idea of two connected movies.
No. 4 - Villians - Sinister and the Marauders (would include Gambit)
Also we would see the beginning of the Sentinels program.
The Team would be ; Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Shadowcat, Rogue, Iceman and Angel. Beast would be a supporting character. Definetely would be more of a team, a family, adventurerers feel, no school aspect.
Of course there would be a romance between Gambit and a captured Rogue. Experimentation on Rogue by Sinister would give her the powers we know. Gambit eventually joining the X-Men.
Would also see by the end a defeated but far from finished Sinister taking an almost dead Angel with him. And of course at the end acknowlegement/small cameo from Sinister's boss, Apocalypse.
No.5 would see an escalation in the drama with the rise of Apocalypse, accompanied by Sinister and his four horsemen (including Archangel of course), the Sentinel program in full flight, the X-Men stuck in the middle of it all and trying to end it.
Had thought about Cable or Bishop from the future always an option, but the whole time travel stuff might make it too convuluted.
Anyway plenty of good stories to tell, just need someone with the right focus, vision and professionalism to tell them. Sadly I could see Fox hiring someone like McG -

Cannonball, bitches!
-
Someone mentioned Liefield and Bay making X-Force, agree they are absolutely perfectly suited.
-
How can you fuck up X-men? It should have been bigger than Star Wars. Dumb fucks.
-
totally not impressed with any of the X films. sure they had some cool elements, but would still like to see the mutants on the big screen ripping it up proper stylie...
-
Movie starts in a future dystopia, with an older grizzled Wolverine being sought after by a new group of young mutants in need of leadership.
Wolverine recalls back to how this all happened. And it was due to the governments response to the power of the Phoenix.
That pushed the Sentinel program ahead and the world was eventually turned into shit after a big mutant/human war.
If only he knew then what he knows now... he would have been able to stop Jean from becoming the Phoenix and averted this whole disaster.
He finds the remains of Cerebro and uses it to contact Xavier back in the past.
Boom, reboot.
-
that comment is for Asi if he is reading
-
He'll definitely knock it out of the park.
-
Rogue returns to the Xmen mansion distraught- her powers have returned- the mutant cure did not work...
Beast, now head of school needs to find Wolverine who has left, still in mourning over having to kill Jean. Rogue begins to hear the voice of Professor X who instructs her to travel to remote island. Without permission from Beast- she takes the X Jet with IceMan and ShadowCat and they find Cyclops, who has amensia. They bring him back to the mansion-Cerebro returns his memory- he takes role of leader.
After the Golden Gate bridge attack- the government have introduced the automated Sentienels to reign mutants- they have rebelled and are now killing humans too- Xmen must save the day. Wolverine comes back but only half way through- Xmen win the day but more sinsiter forces are joining, Professor X returns in last scene- cue cliffhanger ending...
-
But still think some Bay-esque guy will get the job.
-
Get the Russian dude that done "Wanted". He is fuckin nuts.
-
The New Mutants were one of my favorite comics for a long time. I actually got into the X-Men by reading the New Mutants. I love the original team of Cannonball, Sunspot, Karma, Mirage, and Wolfsbane. Wolfsbane (Rahne Sinclair) and (Mirage)Dani Moonstar are my favorite New Mutants). I also liked the addition of Magik (Ilyana Rasputin) and the alien Warlock later in the series. No Feral please. This film could be a great addition to the X-Men Universe if it is done correctly.
-
that is all!
-
That's what I hate about these studios. they want everything so grouded in reality. We'll never see Days of Future Past, Sentinals(that breef peak in X3 was shit), space, Asteroid M. Nothing fucking cool. Just more fights in forests and abandoned military facilites.
-
I am with you 100%. Singer is the only one to be trusted here. X-Men seems to me like one of those worlds where you can do pretty much anything, so the most powerful thing a director can do is say no. Keep things small. Not just do 'cool stuff'. Singer achieved this, especially with the amazing X2. Without him, this is nothing. Though I admit I didn't see Wolverine - was warned off it.
-
I thought X-Men Origins: Wolverine was okay. Not as good as the first two X-Men movies, but better than the third. So shoot me, you whining nerds!
-

Fuck X-Men, Kirby deserves part ownership if not everything!
by stalkeye
Marvel has been notoriously known for ripping off artists & writers which collabaration led to teh greatist characters and franchises for the medium.Kirby,Gerber,(estates)Wein,etc.should continue their lawsuits against the "House of Ideas'.Had it not been for their contributions, Marvel wouldn't be the company it is today.Share the fucking wealth.
-
X-3 was better than Wolverine even though it sucked.atleast Ratner had the sense of humor when adding the line; "I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch" into the movie.i'd rather watch wreX 3 again than some of this summer's past duds.*cough*wolverine*cough*T4*cough*T2*cough*Oh, what a Year it "has-been".
-
It doesn't MATTER that X3 and Wolverine sucked. They made a lot of money - therefore, the franchise doesn't need saving at all from the studio's perspective. And ultimately, that's the only perspective that matters.
-
I can't believe nobody mentioned this; watch the movie until the end (okay, that's harsh- just FF to the end of the credits).
-
That's a good point, I think Singer would do an extra good job on the next Xmen film if he took the job. He'd have more motivation than anyone else in order to redeem himself from Superman Returns.
-
The X-men movies are all terrible. Hugh is wrong as fuck for wolverine, the destroyed the Phoenix saga, and pretty much every other X-men element that had importance to fans. It is over now and new movies should be starting from scratch. The best way to handle it would be to re-introduce the X-men somewhere within The Avengers films.
-
If you're only going to do an X-Men 4? You lying sacks of shit.
-
If they're gonna exploit the world of X for every penny, Excalibur's "Cross-Time Caper" series would make a decent basis for a tv show.
-
Which Excalibur team would you have ?
-
I'm serious guys, you really need to give Origins a second viewing, preferably on blu-ray. I really hated it the first time I watched it on my computer with no special effects. Also, if you get the blu-ray you also get a free DVD copy and a free digital copy. Once I sat down and re-watched it I was stunned how great Liev was as Victor. And I actually liked the ending when Xavier came and rescued the mutant children from Col Stryker. The only thing I hated after my second viewing was the Super Deadpool abomination. Besides that Origins was a decent, dare I say entertaining comic book movie.
-
on film for me. And not to mention X3.
-
Maybe the problems people have with it lie with the viewers. Its not my fault you have seen every genre movie ever made 100 times and don't understand telling a story cinematically, you hated Superman Returns for not containing enough action and straying into new areas, you hate X3 as it was too actiony and presented a classic comic book fight story and now people hate Wolverine for being clichéd, news flash there are no more original stories to tell so if your gonna critique at least try and remain relevant.
-
wow.

if I cunt get a reboot, (ultimate)Hulk vs Wolverine
by the green gargantua
Page for page panel for panel. Nortan, Jackman, Jackson. They would make a fortune. That story was more fun than anything marvel has produced on the screen.

By the way, no offense intended, but your rationale about criticizing genre movies is incredibly bad.
-
were pretty cool. i'd check that out. gimme some Cannonball.
don't really know if there's anything good in the Xmen universe outside the Phoenix storyline. although the Brood were cool back in the day. -
Must haves: Cap'n Brit, Meggan, Nightcrawler, Lockheed, Widget, the nerdy guy in the trenchcoat without powers whose name escapes me.
Maybes: Shadowcat, Phoenix. Phoenix would be hard to translate for TV, and casting for Kitty Pryde would have to be pitch-perfect for it to work.
Possible additions: You could throw in any mutant with tv-friendly powers who has a fun attitude. The key to translating Excaliber to TV would be maintaining the goofy fun of the title's original run, not so much about which team members you include. -
They'll be out of work soon.
-
1st saying X-3 is better then Wolverine or Visa Versa is like saying Diarrhea is better then constipation. 2nd Singer has been the only thing that made those films watchable and 3rd I hope that Fox loses the rights to X-men and all the marvel rights they have.
-
But It wasn't great either. After watching the movie you suddenly realize that Magneto was right all along. Kill the fucking humans.
-
doesn't deserve to keep the X-Men franchise. Dumb ass fox!
-
that would be cool.
-
right now i'll take almost any movie made with 3rd and 4th tier comic characters, I'm tired of the studios screwing up the main characters like daredevil, wolverine, x-men, catwoman, fantastic four, superman and even spiderman to a degree.
-
have to find a final solution for them....
-
I Dare you and I dare for a literal translation from the Comic books.
-
If you want to read how awesome he is, then read Astonishing X-Men.
-
"Let's get Magneto by jove!"
"Oh rather!"
"X-Men....Chocks away!" -
Right? You never actually see his death. How do we know that in her "guilt" for destroying the universe at the end of X3, she doesn't recreate him out of thin air, or something. Kinda lame, I know, but you could work something good out of that.
All in all I think people were too harsh on X3 anyway ( except for some obvious missteps ) I thought the casting was excellent in that movie for example... surprisingly so. -
And for those jackasses that think Jackman was wrong for Wolverine, you need to travel back in time a bit You owe the entire franchise to him and Ian McKellen. They absolutely sold the first movie. They gave a legitimacy to the first film that really jump started all the super hero movies we've had in the last decade. If Xmen had been a bomb do you really think we'd be here bitching about #4?
-
re Jackman and McKellen
-
So the movie can reflect the reality of the comics. Cyclops always came through with the clutch optic blasts, seems like he was one of the few mutants who was effective against the sentinels. Brian Singer better make him more formidable this time around.
-
You hit the nail on the head regarding McKellan and Jackman.
-
Personally I never cared for Jackman as Wolverine. I thought he was miscast from day I saw the first movie, but at the time I admitted freely I was in the minority.
People have turned against him now because X3 and Wolverine were such disappointing movies. Put him in a hit, they will love him again.
But once again, he never worked for me as Wolverine. I am an old X-Men fan. and there is nothing sexy about Wolverine IMO. I see him the way John Byrne drew him - gruff, rugged, short, stocky and as hairy as George the Animal Steele. More Charles Bronson than Jackman. -
Pulling off Giant Robots is going to be hard. Very hard. It is one thing to suspend disbelief about Mutants, but having giant robots thrown into their universe is suddenly going to break the internal logic. It would be like doing a vampire movie and suddenly having aliens pop up - you could do it, but it would be harder to take the fictional universe seriously.
So, I would suggest they change the Sentinels into something like cyborgs/transhumanist. Now, a lot of comic book purist will cry foul (and I understand their pain, since I could be considered a comic book purist) but really, it wouldn't be that big of leap from the X-Men universe.
1) the only reason the Sentinels were picked for Days of Future Past was because they already existed and fit the criteria for a villain that fit the need to make a dystopian future - a robot intelligence that would take over. Well, if you have something else similar, it would probably work just as well without suspending disbelief.
2) You already have the White King (Donald Pearce) and the Reavers, so why change them from anarchistic cyborgs into government made cyborgs designed to hunt/eliminate mutants? You could even have some of them be the humans Wolverine dispatched in X-Men 2.
3) It would be easier for the audience to accept something like cyborgs or men in armor than giant humanoid robots. For one thing, it would make it less like a T5 ripoff, and secondly the image of a giant humaniod robot would just be laughable. BUT, they might accept transhumanist (especially if it was established that Trask or someone else felt that was the only way humans could compete against mutants) or men in armors (Iron Man).
I can understand if people disagree with me, but personally I see this as a better option than the Master Mold variety of Sentinels. -
If they decide to do a New Mutuants movie, the Demon Bear would be an awesome storyline. An New Mutants animated film or television show would be even better than live action IMHO. They could feature the Demon Bear, Sentinels, Asgard, the Mojoverse, or even the Brood in an animated televison show format.
The White King was featured in the New Mutants graphic novel if I remember correctly. He was a partial cyborg and one evil dude. He kidnapped Professor X and tried to kill Wolfsbane. He would be a great opponent for the New Mutants to fight again. -
