Hercules Has Seen The First Three Episodes of The Brand New SEINFELD-Centric Season Of CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
The first new episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” since 2007 hits HBO tonight, and it’s funny stuff, the first installment of a season that will see the cast of “Seinfeld” reunite for an NBC special in the “Curb” universe.
None of the old “Seinfeld” cast appear this week or next, but they have meaty roles in episode three. The first two “Curb” episodes of the season are essentially an elaborate segue from the Black-centric prior season.
Spoilers for the first three episodes lurk in the text invisible.
Larry David, who built his sitcom career on coincidences, keeps running into his estranged wife Cheryl, who is not unfriendly to the funnyman.
At the same time David’s girlfriend, Loretta Black (Vivica A. Fox), is diagnosed with cancer. Horrified at the prospect of having to sacrifice valuable time on the golf course to help care for a cancer victim, Larry stumbles on a ingenious scheme to quickly extricate himself from the relationship.
Then, when Larry learns Cheryl’s going on auditions in a frustrating effort to revive her acting career, he hatches another plan: get back into Cheryl’s pants by taking NBC up on its longstanding offer to mount a “Seinfeld” reunion, and cast Cheryl as George Costanza’s ex-wife.
Incredibly, no one pulled a Merv Griffin Show; Jerry's old apartment set was stored, reclaimed and refurbished and looks now exactly as it did a decade ago. No reference is made to Michael Richards’ headline-making Laugh Factory rant in the first three episodes, but word is the series will be making sport of it as the season wears on. One of the funniest things about the third episode is how Larry’s perception of the “Seinfeld” finale differs from the cast members’.
Plus? Catherine O'Hara plays Funkhauser's crazy sister tonight. I deem it all splungeworthy.
9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday. HBO.

btw in Germany the show is called "Don't do it Larry",but it was never shown here on TV :-(
-
Because they sure need a do-over for the original cringe inducing finale.
-
That are basically clip shows. But I'm not sure that anything could have lived up to audience expectations. I DID think the last lines were perfect though, repeating their first conversation from the pilot. 9 years = we didn't learn anything.
-
The Black season was absolutely hilarious from beginning to end and things are looking up even higher with Seinfeld. Can't wait!
-
I am both terrified and excited as to what will happen when Micheal Richards meets the Black family.
-
so, can anyone sun up what actually happened in the seinfeld finale for me?
-
Can't wait!
Now the US office has more than come into it's own, how about a UK/US cross over season! Who wouldn't like to see an office exchange featuring some of the UK cast? -
Larry David returned to write it and it's considered quite dull by most fans is really all you need to know. For more the wiki page has all you need to know.
-
far too much
-
I hope this is also Curbs Final Season (well, not really cause I almost hope it never really ends), but it almost seems too good to have the guy who created basically the most popular sitcom of all time, create a show that takes place in the same universe where he did create that show, and then to have the reunion of said show on the sister show he created as a sort of meta-continuation of Seinfeld. This is basically something that could only ever happy and work on television, and I applaud L.D. for being such a fucking genius. It all just ties together so perfectly...almost like an episode of Seinfeld.
-
Curb usually goes for 10 episode seasons, but i remember hearing back in 2007 that this season was going to be longeranyone know?
-
Basically, since no one else here will explain, if you didnt go to wiki already, the gang commits some sort of mild crime, I don' remember what exactly, but they get put on trial. Basically ever recurring character appears as a character witness during the trial, and basically sums up that these are four of the worst, most selfish people who have ever lived. They get sent to jail for like 15 years or something. It ends with them sitting in a jail cell.
-
They witness a car jacking in some small, quaint town, and then don't do anything about it, just watch. They are arrested under a good samaritan clause for standing idly by, and then combined with the witnesses, gets them sentenced to jail time.
-
was clever, but not really all that funny. The metacomment about finale cliches was kinda cool (the clip show, the main characters leaving, the plane crash, the admission of love etc.) and it was funny to see sitcom characters (this pretty much applies to all sitcoms) get called on how they're basically all dicks, but beyond that there wasn't a whole lot to laugh about.
-
They were going on an overseas trip, but (I think due to weather) had a layover in a small town, in CT if memory serves. There they saw someone getting mugged and, instead of helping him, they stood by and watched and made fun of it. Failing to assist the victim of a crime turns out to be a crime itself in that town, and they get put on trial -- and characters from previous shows all turn up (the Soup Nazi, Teri Hatcher's character, etc) to testify about how bad they are, and they end up in jail. The last scene is Jerry doing standup in the slammer. I just caught it not that long ago, and the fact that I can't remember many details just underscores the forgettability of it all. It all felt very forced and obvious and was quite far from the show's shining hour.
-
with explanations on the Seinfeld finale, but I think the consensus is pretty much that it was a huge letdown. Can't wait to see what Curb does with it. Curb is the most wonderfully acidic comedy in TV history -- since George Costanza was based on Larry David, Curb is basically George Costanza Unbound.
-
The amazing SNL skit where Jerry is on HBO's Oz. Fucking brilliant.
"You didn't get the make up sodomy? You have to get the make up sodomy!" -
Ignoring any comments about quality, I believe the gang was sentenced to 2 years in prison.
-
Can I purchase these through episodes On Demand the day after they air? Does HBO do that? Because I am not waiting until the summer for the DVD.
-
First I get introduced to "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" on DVD, now I get new episodes of Curb.
-
Personally, I felt the last two seasons of Curb really sucked, but having the Seinfeld cast back together should make the upcoming episodes worth it...
-
It tied in nicely with the rest of the show, IMO. It was nice to have David back writing for the series at the very end. Also, I believe they were sentenced to only one year, but Christ knows how long they stayed in there due to bad behavior...
-
I loved Seinfeld and could barely work up a 'blah' for curb your enthusiasm. To think I might watch this just to see the Seinfeld stuff. Even that is iffy.
-
ummmm, its spongeworthy. as in "the sponge" that women can use for protection. which that episode of seinfeld was about.
-
I think he was being, you know, funny?
-
I wouldn't expect anything less from David. Hopefully he really puts the thumbscrews to Michael - he's a real ego-maniacal prick.
-
He's put his weight back on.
-
That all sounds AMAZING, but how does Cheryl playing George make any sense? I can't wait to hear Larry's "interpretation" of the Seinfeld finale. I still laugh in the second season when he's describing how he saw George: "He was just a cool guy, that got into problems."
-
it would have been better had they not had the clip show beforehand. But the whole idea of them all going to jail because of 9 years' worth of shitty things they did is pretty much the perfect way to end the show. Could the script have been better? Yes. But damn if I don't love the last line.
-
That was all.
-
So maybe I don't hate everything Herc likes.
-
You call yourself a fan?
-
that was funny.
-
I liked the Seinfeld finale and its Camus' "The Stranger" vibe. I give Larry David credit for having the guts to take his characters to task for their various sins. Super pumped for Curb.
-
but I love his writing...does that make any sense?
-
Sure you don't mean Kafka's "The Trial"?
-
It's such a unique way to do something. And handled brilliantly.
Catherine O'Hara is great in tonight's ep. "Fuck me fat boy! Fuck me!" -
I've read interpretations of it being compared to "The Stranger". Both the Seinfeld gang and Mersault were convicted not because of what they did but of who they were.
-
Is a cancer storyline really that funny? I realize in the end that LD will look like a jerk, but cancer jokes never strike me as terribly funny.

The Seinfeld finale was unfunny garbage
by supercowbell5thecowbellhasspoken
So fucking lame. Worst episode ever, even worse than the pilot (not the season 4 episode, the actual pilot)
-
But he had the best line in the finale. When the plane appeared to be about to crash everyone but Kramer was freaking out. Kramer just shouted"Hallelujah, I'm going home."
-
I've always heard it translated into English as 'The Outsider'.

Let's face it: Jerry hit the lottery when he hooked up w/ Larry
by gqtaste
I here all the time how funny Jerry S. is/was and to me it was the right place right time for him. Plus, he was surrounded by all-star caliber talent! That includes everyone from Newman to the Johnny Cochran type character.
Point is, there is only one genius and it's fucking Larry David. Not saying anybody is arguing it but like I said above I here from time to time my friends try to tell me it was mostly Seinfeld that brought the magic. I couldn't disagree more w/ that. What has Jerry done since the show? That dumbass Bee movie. Look what David did when he didn't' need the money. -
Fantastic episode to start off the new season. Still the funniest show on tv, and Larry David is and always will be a genius. Cannot wait for this season to unfold...
-
I almost died laughing when Larry pretended to faint after hearing the test results. That was one of the most brilliant and at the same time shittiest things I have ever witnessed.
-
I liked the new dynamic. Plus, it would have given the Blacks a chance to comment/confront Michael Richards outburst.
-
I forget his name but he keeps sponging off LD after Loretta flees.
-
Leon Black is one of the funniest characters in recent television memory. "You gotta get up in that ass, larry! Get up in that ass!" I'll be really disappointed if Michael Richards and Leon don't have a conversation.
-
yeah, that was fucking hilarious. but for a moment i wondered if maybe he WASN'T pretending -- that maybe his reaction was genuine because he realized there was no way he could now break up with her, and that realization nearly made him pass out. probably not, though. either way, hilarious.
-
it was probably the funniest part of the episode.
-
Leon isn't going anywhere.
-
holy fuck! Larry's fake faint was the funniest thing i've seen on TV in a long time, great episode looks like this season is going to be great
-
fake faint i loved that scene too being a brit i must say this show has class very funny
-
advertisers paid $2million per 30 second spot - and don't ask me who advertised what...
now THAT is funny! -
I will say that, yes, the finale just wasn't very funny. But I've always admired the idea to complete throw out any hint of being sentimental. The main point seemed to be, "Why should they get a happy ending? They're all horrible people!"I'm still unsure whether that fainting was real or fake. I think Jeff turned out be much worse than Larry when without hesitation he agreed the woman should be sent back to the institution. Even Larry hesitated for a minute.
