See The First 17ish Minutes Of David S. Goyer & Brannon Braga's FLASHFORWARD!!

Published at:  Sep 18, 2009 11:08:26 AM CDT

Merrick here...

On Thursday September 24, ABC will premiere FLASHFORWARD from David S. Goyer & Brannon Braga by way of a novel by Robert Sawyer. The series' premise? What happens when the entire human race blacks out for two minutes - and glimpses their future lives when it happens?

ABC has posted the first 17+ minutes of the show's opening episode - which offers a compelling taste of what the show will be like. You can view this material via the embed below...

...or find a bigger/prettier version HERE.

Goyer directed the pilot, which features a score by Ramin Djawadi (PRISON BREAK, IRON MAN). Sawyer's progenitor novel is available HERE- but use caution when looking it up, as many spoilerish descriptions re: what causes the catalyst event to happen are bouncing around The Net.

    by yackbacker

It's a 3-way now (let's use the flashy-flash edit option to drop enough clues that will last us 5 seasons!). If this show doesn't rub its pinky-toe on our metaphorical cocks for 5 seasons and actually delivers some real plot development (ahem LOST!) then I'll be into it. But if this shit is just one tease after another... I'll gladly ignore it.

It's ripoff of Lost, but a decent one at least. It has Sonya Walger(Penny), opens very similar to the Lost pilot (with a giant car crash instead of plane crash, how original) and it's titled Flashforward. How obvious can you get. John Cho's character probably is gonna die in 6 months or so unless Shakespeare in Love can do something about it. Some bad guys who might have triggered this whole event don't want him to find out what's going on. Not everyone on the planet was affected by "the incident" as evidenced by surveillance footage showing some guy in black walking around a stadium full of people flashforwarding.

The way that scene is done, with people screaming and general chaos and mayhem, Lost popped right into my head as I was watching. The other things I mentioned
(and probably some other details I can't remember right now)just made the feeling of deja vu stronger. Obviously not all of it was borrowed from Lost, but a ripoff doesn't have to be exactly the same to be called a ripoff.

a guy waking up to a nice serene scene, 5 seconds later the screams start, he shakes himself off and starts running around trying to help people...and they couldn't have picked a more boring flash-forward for the first episde. "My God, in the future I will be...drinking from a flask in an office and shuffling papers around...and having guns pointed at me by criminals, which incidentally, is pretty much my normal job..." overall though it looks good, I want to see more.

It's...not bad. Definitely slow pacing in the second half - the opening is the best part of the preview. Joseph Fiennes as the lead may be fatal - charisma free. Lots of dangling threads to follow-up on, but I get a sense the show is in now hurry to chase after any of it. If anything, there's a weird "leisurely" vibe about the show. We'll see where it goes...

    by sisterspooky

It's actually just a fictional airlines which many shows and TV/movies can use. I'm guessing so it's not to associate with any actual (real) Airlines in telling a horrific story with real Airline companies. Think of the damages, law suits, etc. that real airlines will say if it involved real airline companies in a story.

    Dummies??? Are you sure???

    by sisterspooky

ABC is simply wanting the core/casual audience from Lost to watch Flash Forward with one of the actress from Lost to star in it. Because a lot of people will recognise her and watch it, from knowledge that she starred in Lost.

AshOk, true Terry O'Quinn starred in Millennium and The X-Files, but in different roles, numerous roles in fact Darius Michaud, Lt. Brian Tillman in The X-Files and most appearance in Millennium as Peter Watts. A lot of actors do this, note CCH Pounder also (guest) starred in both The X-Files and Millennium but as different characters. It saves them hiring a lot of unknowns and a lot of recurring actors do star in a variety of shows. They can do the job and ppl know them then why not use the actors that everyone knows.

It's sort of a celebrity product (that I mean film or TV series) placement which TV is best known in business terms. Think Anthony Stewart Head before Buffy, Nescafe commercials one of the most remembered and loved in the UK, then look at Buffy, Merlin, etc.

It was a good idea but only on paper. Good because we are the people that keep shows such as Lost and Supernatural on the air, and Flashforward is geared towards our demographic. What Goyer and the people who suggested this inteview idea to him didn't know is that a lot of people here hate Goyer for fucking up Blade 3 and delivering a rather pedestrian script for BB. In fairness, Goyer DID manage to derail the entire BLADE franchise with one ill-advised shitfest that was more of a slow-motion Calvin Klein ad for Ryan Reynold's abs than a BLADE movie - and that after two fantastic previous BLADE movies, both tonally very different. A lot of bitterness exists for what MIGHT have been - and you know what? Goyer deserves it. His ego got the better of him, and we got a shit fucking threequel for it. He deserved the TB battering.

Oh, and act 3 of BATMAN BEGINS was fucking weak as well. If you want to talk to the fans (re: ingratiate yourself with them) you have to deal with the shitstorm first, and don't call off an interview because you might be insulted. What a fucking crybaby.

You're right re new WHO - but how embarrassing is it to hear RTD's scripts shoehorn in such beauties as "Oh, I had a cousin who worked at Torchwood, she was called Adeola" (Martha explaining why she looks JUST LIKE her cousing Adeola), or "Did your family always come from Cardiff?" (The Doctor to Gwen from Torchwood, giving a VERY tenuous link between Gwen Torchwood and Gwyneth from THE UNQUIET DEAD).

Nothing wrong with having people play multiple roles, but they need to avoid writing clangers like THAT...
