Learn Who TWIN PEAKS' Ray Wise and FIREFLY's Summer Glau Play In DOLLHOUSE!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
A Thursday conference call with Joss Whedon yielded much news about the coming season of Fox's sci-fi adventure dramedy "Dollhouse." Among the revelations:
* Ray Wise runs a Dollhouse. Wise (“Twin Peaks,” “Reaper”) and Summer Glau (“Firefly,” “The Sarah Connor Chronicles”) will play another city's Adelle and Topher, respectively. (This reminds me that fans got to visit Wolfram and Hart’s Rome office in the fifth season of “Angel.”) Wise first appears in 2.6 and could recur. Glau's character we know will play Bennett, who has a history with Echo.
* Felicia Day was originally supposed to kick off season two in 2019 before we flashed back to 2009, but the future sequence was excised at some point in August or thereabout. (Which would explain why the first shot of season two isn’t terribly interesting on a visual level.) "It had originally been my intention to start in that era, and then come back, but I just had too much information in my first episode," Whedon said. "What we're talking about doing is perhaps revisiting that timeline toward the end of the 13 in a similar fashion.”
* Echo this season is “building herself,” according to Whedon, by accessing not-really-deleted personalities she’s been programmed with in the past. “Then a lot of this season is going to be her attempt to put together some kind of team, even though she has trouble articulating it at first.”
* Miracle Laurie, who played Mellie/November, will be back “early on” (though not in 2.1). (I think November’s body’s true owner was revealed to be someone named Mad Costly – because Paul paid so much for her freedom.)
* We’ll get to see “The Attic,” a “creepy” storage facility where parts the Dollhouse doesn’t need anymore are stored.
* Amy Acker, busy with ABC’s “Happy Town,” will appear in the “Dollhouse” opener and two more episodes this season.
* Sierra and Victor will bone like bunnies.
Find all of scifiwire’s report on the conference call here.
“Dollhouse’s” second season premiere airs Sept. 25 on Fox. You can find my review of it here.

to Season 2. It took the up until the unreleased episode to finally get me into the characters. Hopefully, like almost all of Whedon's other shows, this season will be miles ahead of the first.
-
...LITERALLY another city's Adelle and Topher? That just like "Dr. Saunders" the entire "Adelle" and "Topher" thing is just a programmable character set they put into other Dolls?
WHO ISN'T A DOLL?!?! -
What nerd jerk off fantasy. She is hot and a nerd like me. Jessica Biel is a General and Summer Glau is a genius scientist and Megan Fox is President of the Galaxy. I see where this is going.
-
WWWOOOWWWW MMMAAAANNN. Your like tripping me out. Am I me?
-
It just means that Ray Wise does Adelle's job and Summer does Topher's job in another one of the Dollhouses (There are 20 of them.)
And I don't see Summer as a hot girl posing as a nerd. I picture a jittery Willow-like nerd, softer side of Sears and all. -
Seriously, how are they affording these guest stars? And there is a lot of loction pics out there so they aren't just staying indoors. Is filming in HD that much cheaper?
-
Not because I'm a particular fan of Joss's, simply because Summer Glau is absolutely filthy.Ding dong!
-
I'm sorry, I was attempting to be funny. Sometimes humor can poorly translate over the net...and sometimes it just poorly translates anywhere, depending on the subject matter. I sincerely apologize.

Here's What Sci Fi Wire Said: 9 Secrets Leaked From Dollhouse Se
by media messiah
These leaks from Whedon himself:
1. Meet the neighbors. Guest stars Ray Wise and Summer Glau will play employees of another Dollhouse. Wise plays the head of the other house. Expect him to face off against Adelle (Olivia Williams). "Ray Wise will be appearing in episode six," Whedon said in a conference call Thursday. "He's going to interact with young Olivia, and it should be very exciting." Glau plays the second Dollhouse's programmer, a prettier version of Topher (Fran Kranz). "It's a somewhat eccentric part, but hopefully different than what we've seen her do before," Whedon said. That means we'll also get a glimpse at how the organization runs its franchises. Whedon jokingly called the Wise/Glau Dollhouse "much cooler than this lame one that I'm in."
2. Victor and Sierra need to get a room. Fans of the lovey dovey goo goo eyes between Victor (Enver Gjokaj) and Sierra (Dichen Lachman) will get to see them consummate their attraction. "Victor and Sierra just can't keep their hands off each other," Whedon said. "They're like monkeys, and it's something that they're going to be seeing through for a while. It makes some people very uncomfortable and sometimes it's extremely sweet. Sometimes it's just funny."
3. Echo is going Braveheart. As she gets closer to learning how to control all her personalities, and access her true one, Echo will lead an army of actives. Folks like Victor and Sierra might make good soldiers. "Echo is very much building herself, and she sees it as an indication that they are ready to be pushed to a level like hers," Whedon said. "She's looking for allies, and so Paul is the first person she's going to turn to for that. Then a lot of this season is going to be her attempt to put together some kind of team, even though she has trouble articulating it at first. She's looking for the sense of family that I think the audience was looking for last season. So we're going to be seeing who's on her side and who not so much."
4. Topher's gadgets get an upgrade. The imprint chair has got to be the coolest toy around, but Whedon said there's more technology, of questionable morality, coming to the Dollhouse. "We're going to stretch the tech fairly heftily," Whedon said. "I actually can't answer the question directly because a lot of it has to do with the different ways in which this tech can be manipulated. We're going to see that it's not all just simple chair treatments. There's more that can be done and the excitement and the danger of that is a large part of this season."
5. Dr. Saunders and Mellie will recur. When Dollhouse's future was in flux, Amy Acker signed on to Happy Town, limiting her ability to recur as the scarred doctor on Dollhouse. That means that when you do see Dr. Saunders, it's all quality time. "She will factor in as much as we are allowed to factor her in, which is exactly three episodes worth," Whedon said. "They will however be three extraordinarily memorable episodes. We're seizing the day. We just don't get to seize as many of them as we'd like."
Miracle Laurie also returns this season as the tragic Mellie/November. "I can't tell you exactly how," Whedon said. "I can tell you that she'll be back early on, and that we're definitely not done with the character and, well, that probably means there's going to be some pain involved. More than that, you're going to have to wait for."
6. Alexis Denisof is not the new Paul Ballard, Since Whedon revealed that his former Angel regular was playing a senator investigating the dollhouse, he realized it made people think of Paul Ballard's original motivation. Now, he distinguishes Denisof's character. "He's got his own crusade going, a very different person than Paul, but he's in a similar position except he's gone public with it," Whedon said. "How much the Dollhouse loves a senator to go public with an attack on them, we'll find out in later episodes. He's not 'the Paul' of this season, because he's going to have a different set of problems thrown at him, but he has a similar vibe in that he's very tenacious and righteous."
7. The Dollhouse gets a face lift. You may notice a subtle, different look to this season's episodes. New HD cameras will change the way cinematographers shoot Dollhouse. "We're keeping a lot of things basically the same, but we are trying to free up the camera, to create more depth and emotion with the lighting and the camerawork," Whedon said. "The HD [rig] is smaller, it takes less time to light, the lighting is more environmental. We get more time with the actors, we get more opportunities to do different angles. We're going handheld more, not like 'Epitaph One,' but more like something that still has some of the elegance of the first season but also is more visceral."
8. Explore the Attic. You've heard that there's a place in the Dollhouse called the Attic, where they store old actives and personalities. This year, you'll see it. "It is going to be creepy, but I think ultimately what it's going to be like is going to be something we're going to hold onto pretty tightly," Whedon said. "I don't want to say but it ain't pretty." Sounds like a set designer's dream. "Depends on the set designer. It might be a dream where he's screaming."
9. "Epitaph One" has not been forgotten. Although plans to refer to the DVD exclusive episode "Epitaph One" have been postponed, Whedon still plans to keep the post-apocalyptic episode in the show's continuity. "It had originally been my intention to start in that era, and then come back, but I just had too much information in my first episode," Whedon said. "What we're talking about doing is perhaps revisiting that timeline toward the end of the 13 in a similar fashion. We keep trying to go back to the future, ... then realizing, 'No, it's not time yet.'" The future episode still informs the direction of this season, leading Whedon to wonder how a future episode could benefit other shows. "I want to know what post-apocalyptic future was caused by Two and a Half Men," Whedon joked.
-
Thats a spicy meatball. Curious about the team Echo is putting together. It looks like Whedon just looked at the structure of the first season and said, "I don't know where to go with this?" so now the whole style is going to be different from handheld HD all the way down to basic plot. Not that I mind I thought season 1 was a bit sluggish anyway.
-
I don't know if they are using them or not, but if they are using Red Cameras, you can buy one of those cameras for 17,000 dollars. For 100,000 dollars, they could buy 5 Red Cameras...and make the show look like a movie. The film "Jumper" was shot with the Red Camera, that is how impressive it is. You should look it up on You Tube...for a demo. BTW, Michael Jackson's "This Is It" movie was shot with 3D Red Cameras. With HD, you save on the cost of work prints, master prints, film processing,
extensive color corrections, film to video transfers, film storage costs, etc. Also many things can be done in post, HD essentially allows one to manipulate visuals, like Pro-Tools is used to
manipulate audio. You just take your data files of the shots to an editing suite...and you can add a long lens in post, a fish-eye lens, lens flare, blurs, and various opticals that look like they were done in-camera. The editing time for shows becomes faster, and thus...one can take more time with artistic efforts, ala spending more time making creative edits, or experimenting with the visual flow of the show...or any show,
for that matter. The time for such things is often lost...when dealing with film...not so much when dealing with HD. As you'll see in Joss' quote via Sci Fi Wire, it takes less time to light a set with HD, for instance, hence he has more time to work with his actors, so on, and so forth. -
I recall writing about what I thought Dollhouse should be, before it aired, last season...and a fellow poster on Ain't It Cool News described my outline for the show "As sounding like an Army of Jason Bournes". I wrote back saying, yes, that is my vision on how I perceived the direction of the show...and what it should be--and I was glad that he got it! Maybe Whedon reads Ain't It Cool News after all (?), I just wish he'd hire me.
-
don't make this more attractive. Jumper looked good but was terrible. Just an example that extra time saved wasn't spent on improving the production as a whole. Pro-Tools sounds like your listening to 1's and 0's and makes people like Miley Cyrus and Kanye West think they can sing. Takes the art out of it and puts abilities into the hands of talentless hacks with a big wallet. I'm not disagreeing. Just looking at the other side of the coin. This also freed up Robert Rodriguez to make more Kiddie pictures. OOO goodie!
-
Sounds like there will be a lot of lost opportunites due to the plot changes. I always wanted to see more interaction between the handelers and the actives say fighting side by side more. Most of the episodes focused on private citizens needs and wants and less gov. Always seemed to have a "Quantum Leap" feel (which I loved)and they are moving away from that. Topher=Ziggy.
-
What true greats can do with Pro-Tools??? For a true artists, something like this...is the Holy Grail. Sure hacks can fake it, but you and I know their hacks...and that is the point. A true great with Pro-Tools think what they can do??? What if the Beatles had Pro-Tools, or The Police, or Depeche Mode...Steveie Wonder or Prince when they were at the top of their careers. If you think they were great with the tools that they had then, man would Pro-Tools have allowed them to really blow people away. Phonies will still be phonies, and history will weed them out, like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany...and soon the Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Britney and Miley Cyrus, they will just go down as kiddie pop fads of the moment...but those who follow in the footsteps of bands like The Nine Inch Nails, and the other great performers I mentioned will make their mark, and Pro-Tools won't make them great, their own talent will make them great...and the legends that they will become...Pro-Tools is just a extra tool for any greater metaphorical painter.

It is time that we learn who our heroes and villians are on Dollhouse, something we should have known by the end of the first episode of the show. "Highway To Heaven", "Fantasy Island", "The Incredible Hulk", "The Equalizer", "Kung-Fu", and "Quantum Leap" style series, are great, but at least, we have a hero...or heroes...in them, that have conscious minds, and missions that we can relate to, and cheer for, and that is something we did not have in Dollhouse, and what hurt the series. People need a heroine/hero that they can relate to, even if they are only helping the civilian of the week. The ultimate problem with this format, in regard to Dollhouse, is that the people Echo was helping, from week to week, were all rich people? Now who can relate to that, unless you are rich??? Echo should have been helping the "every man"...and the "every woman"...to give the audience, at large, something to invest in emotionally--for when Echo helps the average Jane, or the average Joe, that means...ultimately, that she is helping you, and me, vicariously...and that makes you want to root for her--that makes her, and the show, worthy of watercooler talk, and that is how you grow the audience.
-
The show was missing the hero and that is what I was getting at with the Handelers and the actives together. You are right about pro-tools in the right hands as well. Everything is developed for the good and then misused. I liked your army of Bournes concept. Lets see what they do with it. Your royalty check should be showing up any minute now. Night shift is over. See ya in the TB's
-
I love your ideas about the Actives and the Handlers, something that was not lost on me. You are very insightful!!! Have a good night...now!!! See you in the TBs!!!

Frankly, it all looks like Joss listened to what people complain
by dance4days
The primary complaints were that Echo was a cipher, and that there wasn't a "scooby gang" of sorts for the audience to root for. So now Echo's developing more sentience, and she's actively searching for comrades. I understand that Joss's vision for this show, so perfectly encapsulated in the episode "Man on the Street," is that he wants everything to be very morally gray and for there to not be such clear-cut heroes and villains, but now that they've introduced an impending doomsday scenario with "Epitaph One" he can use that to depict some people as more straightforwardly villainous, and thus give Echo a more clearly defined mission so that she can actually become a Big Damn Hero herself. All the gray morality that Joss is so in love will come across much better (and probably be easier to convey) when it's saved for people like the clients and such, and perhaps whichever supporting characters don't fit into Echo's new little "scooby gang."
-
even if the ratings improve a little, doubt it helps the chances for a season 3.
think most of the viewers are still shocked fox gave it a season 2. -
Few things about your HD camera postFirst off, they aren't using RED cameras. I don't know this for sure, but there has been no mention on the RED forums and IMDB has them using something that uses HDCAM SR tapes (and you will never see a RED rig using tapes.)Second, you cannot get a RED rig for $17.5k. You can get a RED *BODY* for 17.5k but that doesn't include viewfinder/lenses/hard drive/rails/etc/etc/etc. The actual cost of a fully functional RED rig is going to be closer to $30k.The new cameras they are using aren't 'cheap' in any sense of the word. Quite the opposite, the full sticker price for these cameras is HUGE. But 155 minute tapes are $140 online. $140 may only get you a few FRAMES of processed film by the time all is said and done. That and I don't know that they are purchasing these cameras outright either. There are a ton of places to rent these cameras from on a reasonable per-day rate.

Dance4days: I Think Dollhouse Was Largely Inspired By...
by media messiah
...Showtime's "Secret Dairy Of A Call Girl", and of course, "Joe 90"....the problem however, is that while Joss was trying to make "Dollhouse" morally gray...like "Call Girl", he forgot that the show's lead narrates the fore series, so you get to understand her thinking process. Yes, she is a sociopath, and a narcissist...but at least, you know her motivations--she is a selfish person and a sex addict, one willing to endanger her reputation...and or, her life, for money, glitz, glamour, and sex...so the show becomes an active psychological character study into the mind of a high class prostitute...however, Dollhouse never afforded us that opportunity--to get to know Echo, or to see her as a person with choice of action (freedom of will)--there was never a gray area for her, nor could there be, under the status quo--and that has undermined her as our entry point character, the one that we, the audience, are suppose to bond, and relate to. Lastly, I must point-out that I spotted these weaknesses early, and posted them, as well as identifying...and outlining ways to fix these issues...even before the show aired, and during the early episodes--well ahead of the primary complaints that you were discussing, concerning the various critics of the show, either professional critics, or, civilian viewers--that later, ironically, echoed my opinion.
-
I love how everyone says these were the BEST episodes of Season One without mentioning that neither one of them makes any narrative sense or moves you on an emotional level unless you've seen ALL THE OTHER EPISODES. This series plays much better on DVD where you don't have to wait a week between the highs and lows to see how every piece is just part of the puzzle. The goofier ones that Fox messed with are just as important to the mosaic as the latter ones. If those had been frontloaded with mythology and backstory they would have been just as confusing and even more annoying. There is a method to Whedon's madness.People who hate the show but dig the last two are in denial on some level. It's like loving Godfather 2 and hating or dismissing the first one. How would that even work?
-
I got my information on the Red Camera from a industry veteran who is producing independent films for release on DVD...and he has also shot some music videos for his production company. He is actually the first person that told me of the existence of the Red Camera--and I also know a man, through sources, who proudly owns one. That said, even with a 30 k cost, that is the cost of a live shot news camera back in the early, to mid 90s...so it isn't a lot for a TV series to afford. They can still get 5 Red Cameras for 150 k...about 1/13th the cost of a 2 million dollar episode of a regular hour long prime-time TV series. Yes, I agree it is probably better to rent these cameras, as the rental fees are low, I've heard. Now, I brought up the Red Cam as I don't know officially what camera they are using for Dollhouse--for point of discussion about the many wonders of HD filmmaking...and the Red Cam became my example of what one can do, in respect to the plus advantages over film--when attempting to save money and time for any given production.Thank you for the information, it is very interesting--and good reason not to buy one of these cameras, if not absolutely necessary--but it would make a great cost saving rental.
-
...you just make the audience believe they know more than they know. Joss frontloaded Buffy, and then pulled the rug-out from under our collective feet with a series of "sucker punch" story twists like the introduction of Dawn...and other storylines like Buffy's "season of sex", and Mr. Gile's sinister side. Now, if Joss could do that with Buffy, he could have certainly done it with "Dollhouse", I just think what happened is that the show began with a great concept...one that it was frontloaded with, unfortunately, the show was given a fast greenlight before Joss could really play with the story arc, and the characters, root-out any flaws, and solve the story jigsaw puzzle--thus finding the series--but to be fair, he just didn't have the time, and now I think he, according to reports, has finally found his way--and I think that is just great--as in many ways, he is a hero of mine; one that I am rooting for!!!
-
He is wonderful.
-
Media,
As someone who shoots with a Red here (on quite a frequent basis...) let me correct your statement that you can get a RedOne for 17.5K . That's just the body.
A Red with Matte Box, Follow-focus, rails, viewfinder, hard drives, and a couple of decent lenses (most shows use upwards of 5-7, we're talking 2 here) will run you around 65K. If you managed to get ALL of that for 17.5K please let me know your dealer.... -
If any show needed an actor as fun to watch as Ray Wise, it's definitely DOLLHOUSE. Now how about bringing in Kyle Maclachlan for an episode?
-
I ve been reluctant to watch coz of the whole FOX thing.
-
He's a great.
-
So, when do we get the Firefly and Angel re-unions?
-
are also working on Dollhouse this year (with the exit of Craft & Fain to Lie to Me). I believe Joss said they bring a Reaper mentality & different "obessions" to the table.
-
Does this mean season 2 is only 13 eps?
-
Helpful info, thanks. I want one of those Red cameras. Still seems strange to me that it's the guy behind Oakley (sunglasses) that created the thing.
-
Just means the back nine hasn't been picked up yet. And a lot of people are doubting for that to happen if the ratings were anything like last years (I'm one of those.)
-
was only 13 eps. Story-wise, things got tighter as the season progressed last year. However, I don't think FOX would be willing to bet on a short season, no matter how well it might sell in a the long term. The option of putting a re-run of House or another reality show would be more immediatly profitable but that's the same arguement as last year too and they still renewed it. I just don't know what FOX is thinking this year. I always thought they were complete evil but...if D'House gets a back nine with the same ratings as last year, I may have to re-think that statement.
-
Hopefully this show can keep up the pace of the last 3 episodes.

Find out what Ray Wise and Summer Glau will be at mid season
by xiphos_2
Joioning the rest of the cast in looking for work when this gets rightfully shit canned.
-
Who's the future big wig who visits the Dollhouse to eat shellfish and tell Adele to get in line. Is it Wise? No, I think it's Denisof's character.
-
The standard season of 22 episodes just leads to meandering and boredom. Stay lean, stay mean and stay on target. Thank you FX and HBO for showing the way.
-
I totally agree. Now it might mean longer waits between seasons, which kinda sucks, but lean and mean is the way to go. The BBC model. Being Human was an amazing first season and that was only, like, 8 episodes or something? It also allows for variety in programming. Networks are already doing it with Chuck, Dollhouse, Lie to Me, etc. Even Heroes has a shortened season so Chuck can come back. I actually like that. Changes things up. But yeah, if 13 allows for a tighter season with less meandering, I'm all for it.
-
but thats more to do with less funding over here than anything else. Shorter seasons does make for better storytelling I think, just look at the improvement of LOST in the last 2 years. Out of all the 20-22 ep season shows I can only think of one (House) that maintains the quality throughout (and even then they have the occasional shitty one), I've heard Fringe is good too but haven't seen it. I'm hoping Dollhouse does get picked up for a back 9 but can't really see it happening. Which is a shame.

Summer Glau joining your cast means certain death for the show..
by hb_dad
... in this case, this show deserves it! Fox needs to come to their senses and bring back Terminator:SCC. By the way, I hear they may be doing a straight to DVD T:SCC movie to wrap things up!
-
Name your favorite character on that show. Whiny John? Wooden Sarah? No. Summer was the only thing the show had going for it (that and a surprisingly good performance from that kid from 90210).
-
I'm going to have to be the lone voice of descent here. He's one of those second rate actors where, when you see him, you know that whatever you're watching probably won't be that good. He's a C-list, bargain basement actor.
He's not *awful*, or even that bad. He's just not great. When he gets hired, you know a show/movie is suffering. -
Watch Ray Wise in Good Night, Good Luck. Now THAT is a performance. Great film too.
-
Specifically, the episode where Leland Palmer, possessed by the spirit Killer Bob, is interrogated and beats his head into the door as the fire sprinklers go off. An absolutely phenomenal performance.
-
The reason it lasted 2 seasons was because it had Terminator in the title, and Fox kept the show believing the hype for T4, and it's potential box office success would boost it's ratings. We know how that turned out.
-
The best drug I have ever had!!!
-
...about the sunglasses, that is??? I believe that CmdX is right about the Red Cam--better to rent the Red Camera than to buy one unless you are rich. Save your money, and spend it on the tech support needed for the camera--it is rather extensive, and you need a lot of computer techs for this thing--best you spend your money on that end of it, during actual film production, and the necessary tech support during any post production you'll have on your projects. I hear it is rather involved, and you'll want one of the Red Cams techies with you for your HD Cam to computer...footage transfers.
-
I got this information from the owner of a production company--obviously, he did not figure in all the costs for additional items. That said, it is still better than dealing with a film camera rig...if you wish to save on expenses...and film productions fast, as well as edit fast...the turn-around is extremely faster and less costly--you will agree with that??? Learning all this about the actual cost of a Red Cam...thanks to Cmdx and you, has quickly convinced me that renting the camera is the best manuever...under the circumstance. No need to own the hardware, it is best for a production company to be largely virtual these days. Best to only invest in a top grade editing suite system--only!!! Thanks for your input, you have been great!!! I really mean that!!!!!
-
about the price of the cameras but that's not really what I was getting at. I was thinking more along the lines of set-ups & tear downs - how fast does HD compare to film? If you can get all your pages shot out of an 8 hour day instead of a 12 or 14 hour day, the price would drop dramaticically wouldn't it? Union wages go into time and a half at 12 hours, double time at 14 and triple time at 16 hours, or something like that, don't they? Depending on the size of crew, you could save a fair chunk of change and not just a few thousand on equipment. (Plus they don't have to build a main interior set this year, that's gotta help a bit too).
-
I also appreciate you being polite enough to offer an apology but I'm not going to play Taylor Swift to your Kanye West. Let's keep things juvenile, shall we? Ya fucking nutburger.
-
Or did they somehow save his face after failing to save hers?
-
I think I remember reading something over comic-con that his scars are healed. Why I have no idea. Whiskey was once top earner - like Echo is now - so why wouldn't they fix her up and send her back out? I mean, other than the fact Victor was having pantie parties with Adelle. Maybe it will be explained the the Whiskey-centric first episode. However, maybe it *won't* be explained and that is another reason why she seems to be so fucked up, if she starts asking legit questions and gets bullshit answers.
-
"Stay lean, stay mean and stay on target." Spoken like a true marine & writer, my friend.
One thing to throw at you though: Network TV has the luxury of having ad revenue being thrown at them to keep them viable, while HBO has shorter seasons to make up for revenue by DVD sales. Do you think that is a fair statement? Do you think that ad revenue is better financially (not creatively, mind) than DVD sales? -
But trust me, in three months, Taylor Swift and Kanye will be happily married...with a baby on the way!!!

Buffywrestling: Maybe But,,,You Didn't Say No To Babies...
by media messiah
...so, I'll take that as a yes to you agreeing to have my babies!!! And...I want a whole football team's worth.

2.1 answers this question definitively.
-
The explanation, I mean.
-
Loved the episode, it elevate the whole series for me but I think that it could segregate the audience. Just the people that already is invested in the show, it’s actors or runners, have interest in do the extra effort that it is watch E.1 and the common viewer will keep thinking that the premise forced and senseless if the don’t know which is the Dollhouse’s true purpose. I hope they can rise the ratings.

appears to have somthing to do with Victor getting repaired before Whiskey.
I really love all the Claire Saunders stuff in 2.1; It really makes you think. -
MM, I'm afraid I have to decline; I've promised all my pretend internet babies to Herc. Who are going to rule the world after an apocalypse apparently (Nice.)

...the good girls. Oh, well...back to being a perfectly misunderstood super hero.

Since when is Doll House a dramedy.
-
Yes I agree with both of your questions about revenue 100%. If networks shifted to a shorter season it would require a change in how they view seasons and would probably require a change to a year round type of format along the lines of how FX and USA work.In my opinion, FX and USA along with HBO, have almost all the bet shows on them now. The way FX and USA program thier network is, I believe, viable enough to work on the slowly dying big 4.5 networks.

To anyone still bitching about Sarah Conner Chronicles: Shut up already. It was a good show and I'd have loved to see it continue, but its over and at least it had an ending. Quit acting like it was given the Farscape treatment.
-
ad revenue has to be better(assuming the show is a hit). It is all gravy. No production cost(to the network). They pay you to air during that show. Meanwhile HBO has to pay to manufacture and distribute DVD's(if they even sell). Selling DVD's and charging for the channel I'm sure they aren't hurting at all but if you have a popular show on Network TV...I mean we know what Superbowl commercials cost AND they are selling the DVD's for shows like Dollhouse. So now the real question is...Subscription Vs. Ad revenue. The answer is 100% Ad revenue. Funny this comes up in this TB because if you remember the Dollhouse commercials(at least in my area, I assume it was the same all over)were only 1 minute or :30 sec spots. I really thought it was a sure sign of a poorly performing show. I really didn't expect it top come back. I thought it was a clever way to keep a viewer engaged. All that being said the intor of DVR's and TiVo and fast forwarding through commercials. Who knows. I still think you have people who are tuning in for the first run and advertising to that captive audience is the money melon.

They are doing just fine, by simply replaying series on their affiliated cable networks, and the internet--this practice is called re-purposing. In the near future, we will see more networks producing their own material so they can better control the product, as well as get a piece of the aftermarket royalties via DVD sales and rentals, worldwide syndication (first run and rerun distribution), internet sales, and ad revenues, in addition to product tie-ins and secondary franchise revenues. As for the latter, imagine if you were running a network/studio...and you had what would be the equivalent of the next Star Trek, your revenues could be in the billions, from merchandising alone, as derived from toy sales, video games, bed spreads, pajamas, lunch boxes, posters, T-shirts, and the like, but it all begins with ownership of said properties, in the first place--from there, you have a self sustaining piggie bank that keeps refilling itself with billions in revenues. This is the reason why studios keep remaking old TV shows as movies, as each feeds interest in the other, via the public and the media, and thusly, grows, and keeps the other alive--it is the "parasite principle" in action.

Is there a tranlator somewhere on line the turns your ravings into understandable English?
-
BTW...those aren't ravings...but rather, they are a breakdown of actual, and currently used... marketing strategies in the entertainment industry.
-
Ad revenue>dvd sales
-
Did you catch what Bamber and Hogan from BSG are doing on the show this season. I remeber it mentioned. Any more BSG additions can only improve Dollhouse.
-
And he keeps his own english accent too *le sigh*
-
to translate all of MM's posts; an honourary Gilbert Grape, if you will.

I hope so.

Through the ironically correctly named bablefish web site. I checked they have schizophrenic to English.MM congrats on missing out entirely on what BUFFY and I were talking about. Remember, Throzine is your friend, up until the palsey starts and the Tardive Dyskenisia hits that is.

...with Buffy. Sorry, I'm too busy studying my martial arts techniques to read that stuff. I only stopped to answer Buffy about HD...and something about extending the life of series and their worth to networks. I have been reading Daily Variety and The Hollywood Reporter since I was about 12 years old. Since then, having been a child actor, I have been able too see some of the strategies and business models of the industry, as reflected in the trades, put to use...and I have seen various people made into superstars, personally, so I don't function off of theory, as you do. As well, I've hung-out with, and know, the most successful music industry exec in modern history. He's hard to reach these days...as he's gotten that big, but it has been a very interesting ride--including witnessing industry conspiracies unfold, and all kinds of things that are straight-out of a movie. BTW, I have never watched the show "Entourage", because I was in the real actual entourage it was based on. I hung-out with those guys for a week, and on and off, before and after...including at the mansion of that music exec I mentioned. Just so you know...the show is based upon The New Kids On The Block, Marky Mark, and Donnie and Mark's cousin Jizz...who is like an older brother to them, someone they really look-up to, as they say he is an elite actor. I'm sure they got their chops from him. Donnie was the suicidal guy at the beginning of The Sixth Sense...his acting was so good, I didn't even recognize him. I had absolutely no idea it was him until later. I think Jizz had something to do with his tremendous acting skills? Anyway, I will leave you guys to bash me some more--as it seems to make you feel better about yourselves??? Enjoy!
-
...that is no secret...but anyone who has ever meet him, and been in
close proximity...and hung-out with him, knows that one of his eyes turns brown...regularly. BTW, he's a cool guy, unlike most stars, he is the exact person that he presents himself to be in interviews. Why did I mention this? I never joke about, or make up, anything that I speak about...
as fact. Anybody out there who may be reading this, who knows Bowie,
knows that this is true, as well, it is not something that the media has published about him. -
Throzine: know it, live it, love it you nut case.
-
...which you are intimately familiar with? Well, I know nothing of it--all of my peers have shown me nothing but respect. You, however, must need such medication...and I wish you good luck with it. One of the reasons I mention David Bowie, is because...he is a gentleman...one who has manners, and great honor--some values you can greatly learn from, as you desperately need them. God bless your poor soul. May you know enlightenment...love, and forgiveness, in you cruel life. I forgive you, but will you forgive the most important person you must forgive--and that is...yourself?
-
You manifest obvious signs of mental illnes and come on man you know those voices aren't your friends nor are they real. Also, in the future, between practicing your "katas" and hanging out with all your famous "friends" take a momenet to read a post before you make some long rambling nonsensical reply that has nothing to do with the original discussion.Further, get some medical help, you've obviously been off your meds for a while now and you know exactly what decompensation and thorozine are. You're no stranger to either.
