Pics From The Set Of The RED DAWN Remake!!
Merrick here...
Toby sent in some pics from the set of Dan Bradley's RED DAWN remake in Mount Clemens, Michigan. They pretty much speak for themselves. Not sure what this'll look like on-screen (will we see this on fire & smoking, or after the fact?), but the notion is pretty eerie.
EMBIGGEN!!!

Fucking idiot
-
The roots never took. I'm jealous.
-
I didn't realize this was being filmed here. Hope they took a break in filming in honor of Swayze.
-
Michigan is a hotbed of crazy right-wing militias. Not surprising they would film this anti-socialist propaganda there. No doubt this film will be used by Glenn Beck to encourage the right-wing crazies to grab their 2nd amendment-protected assault rifles and start shooting the American "socialists."
-
Did you really need to post these pics today?<p> Life goes on I suppose...
-
so ya got yer ying to yer yang.
-
Well?
-
Bound to be shitty
-
Being filmed in Michigan, but the story is set in Spokane, WA. I live there, and we're right next door to the panhandle of North Idaho and Montana...talk about crazy right wing militia groups! They probably didn't film it there because there's too many assholes with guns around here who would mistake the film set for a real invasion.
-
Only in theaters, 9/24/10
-
poor Patrick didn't live to see this finished... Suckage by the truckload, count on it.
-
gonna be a shitty ass joint
-
War of the Worlds had a smoking downed airliner on a suburban street with Tom Cruise stumbling around looking all shock and awe. Yawn.

So, the invasion will start with 9-11 style attacks?
by Royston Lodge
If that's what these photos imply then the filmmakers are making a pretty shitty comment on America's preparedness.<p> The original Red Dawn made a bit of dramatic sense because the Soviets were seen as militarily equal (or superior) to the USA, in the popular consciousness. They were the Red Menace and The Evil Empire.<p> But today, the USA is seen hands-down as #1. Since 9-11, you've got military build-up and homeland security policies that approach the level of paranoia.<p> In the 80s, to make a movie that claimed the USA could be invaded wasn't seen as an insult to the people who have the responsibiliy of keeping America safe. The threat was seen as so big that it was no insult to suggest that even the best efforts to defend the nation could fail.<p> But to make a movie today that claims that the USA could be invaded is likely to be interpreted as a great big insult to the military, the FBI, the CIA, Homeland Security, NORAD, and maybe even the nation's air-traffic controllers!<p> Nothing good will come of this movie.
-
glad to not be there anymore.
-
The backlot tram tour goes right through the downed 747 set he used for War of the Worlds...with an actual scrapped 747. Seems like the writers or director of the Red Dawn remake took the tour.
-
We wouldn't dream of it. We'll just stand outside of polling centers on election day with truncheons and intimidate people whose skin color is different from ours... You know, like the peace-loving Socialist Black Panthers did in Philadelphia last year.
-
I think this killed Swayze.
-
That looks awesomely realistic!

thousands to death?

If it was a movie about a total GOP takeover. House, senate, and president all republican. That's too scary for me to think about. We'd be the soviet union all over again. A few rich, the rest of us poor.
-
...that looks like a really nice neighbourhood. I don't think I've EVER seen a neighbourhood like that outside of a John Hughes movie. Imagine, real trees and sidewalks in a residential neighbourhood! It's kinda nice to know neighbourhoods like that actually do exist in the real world.
-
Because then they could have made it fucking huge for pretty cheap.
-
Ruining the great name of Swayze right after he passed.
-
Are they going to try to make us believe that Islamicists are capable of INVADING the USA? Successfully? Please. I've heard of suspension of disbelief but that's pathetic. And irresponsible, even as a lark or as propaganda.
-
..in the Outsiders, puicking up Jennifer Gray, doing pottery with Demi Moore, ripping out that guy's throat in Roadhouse, doing gay surf Nazi in Point Break and leching after pubescent girls in Donnie Darko, Swayze's career is secure. I kind of thought he sucked a bit, then I realised that he pretty much ruled.
-
Soviet Union(or) United SOCIALIST Soviet Union. GOP, a party standing for free trade capitalism, complete opposites my friend, now you voted for Obama didn't you?
-
Remember...this is a FILM site..not Foxnews or CNN.</P><p>And another thing...you guys need to get out of the political science classes at school...you're drinking the kool-aid big time. Once you get into the workforce and start paying the price and begin to read some books not on the approved by the government Dept. of Education list...you will soon realize there is at heart no difference between the DNC and the GOP. There is a reason independents and anarchists like myself call you all Republicrats.</p><p>Now get back to talking about the FILM
-
Yes, I did. I spent *YEARS* in the middle east thanks to "W" and when I get back to the USA I find banks, housing, and gas all fucked up. No controls, and the GOP wasn't going to do shit except ride it out. No jobs, can't sell the house and half a trillion wasted in Iraq that will never be recouped. The GOP in charge is scarier than any Communist invasion. It keeps me up at night thinking what 4 more years of those oil/Halliburton bedfellows would do. I'd be living in a cardboard box while they decide on which Bently to buy.
-
Not that anybody would care about that. Detroit sure seems to be getting some film love these days though. I haven't been back there in many years. I don't miss it.
-
At least the kids still get to be Wolverines!!
-
That is all.
-
They, like their DNC brethren are Corporatists, not Capitalists. Bought and paid for by the people who put them in office.</p><p> Remember..the Medicare Bill (which benefited Big Pharama), NAFTA (not free market, but rather protected corporate markets) and the various trade tariffs and embargos imposed on (free marketeers like Libertarians reject protectionist embargos) of the last 2 decades were mostly crafted by National Socialist GOP Neocons.</p><p>National Socialism (GOP) or Stalinist Socialism (DNC)...choose your poison and drink deep my children.</p><p>Fuck I can't believe I'm getting sucked into this insipid discussion...I'm outta here.
-
Yes, I know this is a long time in the making, but Swayze is already spinning.
-
...and don't believe the Obamaganda. <p>'Nuff said. </p>

begins with a medium sized jetliner crashing into a neighborhood home in rural Michigan?
-
Talk about lucky. No damage to the house at all.
-
Anyone arguing against that shit can go straight to fucking hell. People like him are sent to fight senseless wars by the politicians bought and paid for by the companies our government is supposed to protect us from, not be in bed with. Our country is legitimately fucked. Rome is burning people. The two sides are both so incredibly corrupt and stoneheaded we cant agree on a single thing except that the other side (whichever one you arent on) is full of radical crazies and terrorists trying to ruin our country. We are all ruining our country together.
-
It's spelt "it's".<p> fucking idiot.

Drinking the donkey schlong or nursing the pachyderm penis? Those work?

I love Powerring talking about a GOP takeover. Just so Bush era. Last time I checked, it was the Dems who were in charge. They actually DID take over, and there was no evil right wing conspiracy to take over the country, as in 24 or Jericho. Do you still see a Bush boogieman when you go to sleep at night? Time to get over that my friends. This is the Obama era, and, as he said the other night, he "owns" it. I'm not commenting one way or the other on how he's doing, but this is the era of the Dem takeover, they run the show, and I'm glad Obama is taking responsibility. As for Red Dawn, I watched it again last week (it is a twice a yearer) with my 14 year old kids, and it took about three minutes to grab them by the throat and hold them spellbound for two hours. It holds up great, and the reason can be summed up in one word MILLIUS! I don't think he's involved with the new one, and it was his literacy and film sense that made the first one work. I remember when it came out, and people were saying how ridiculous it was that a bunch of teenagers could wage such a successful guerilla war against the Soviets. Watching it today, with the knowledge that the Soviets were taken down in Afghanistan by just such methods (and with the help of some US rocket launchers)lends it real credibility. Millius is one of the underrated greats of the cinema, and I would love to see his script for Apocalypse Now filmed someday. Dillinger was also great (probably the equal of Public Enemies on 1/1000 of the budget) as was Farewell To The King. He also had a hand in the great Rome series on HBO, and made an amazing two part film about Teddy Roosevelt years back for TNT. I'll withhold judgment on the new film until I see it, but I hope it has the sort of intelligence that Millius brought to the original. For example, when the big "evil" Russian is brought in to fight back against the Wolverines, and the first thing he does is call for an end to the killing of civilians. Not what you thought would happen, or the amazingly compassionate portrayal of the Cuban Colonel. Just a great movie.
-
Did you use the recommended Boeing Root Stimulator? HA, I thought not...
-
...are you suggesting that because Obama is African American he is well endowed? Or simply that intelligence and a large penis go hand in hand?<P><P>...hmm, that got away from me there at the end...I'm not even sure what that means...
-
If I see one more stupid ad for Jay Leno... Am I the only one that loathes that asshole??? Note to Jay: Take your Tonight Show money and leave the entertainment industry already. Oh yeah Red Dawn... WOLVERINES!!!!!
-
From the first film have cameos I wonder... With Swayze's somewhat surprised passing (he was working on a tv show until very recently) he was the one guy from the original Id really have liked to see with a bit role in it.
-
Seriously. Why are they remaking this movie? If you want to make a movie about America being invaded, do it...but with a new name. Why take the title from a classic, underrated film...the first PG-13 I saw as a kid btw...and risk hurting it. Most people today won't remember the movie so the title won't bring in crowds anyway. Just come up with a new name and be done with it.
-
Ohhh, someone's been listening to Rush Limbaugh, again. Watch out for those death panels!!
-
Did you not see the footage or do you simply prefer the term 'Polics Baton?' Because the Panther in question was definitely wielding one.
-
Supposed to erase what happened? Trying to embody the Alinsky idea that picking fights about trivial asides ties up your opponent and stops discussion about the original subject?
-
I'm just sayin'...
-
Some little douche named 'AtheistScum' decided to start shit by generalizing all non-Socialists as militia whackjobs. Sorry, not gonna let that pass without rebuttal.
-
A completely retarded movie from the '80's is now the subject of a remake, by and for the retarded of the '10s. Yay. The idea that any country could overpower and occupy the United States is as laughable now as it was then. That some see this as a movie that makes some sort of valid political statement is frankly terrifying.
-
It would be more realistic to set the movie in Alaska and have the Koreans invade. You can take Alaska with 100,000 troops and hold it with 250,000, afterall Alaska has only 500,000 men, women and children and 300,000 are in those cities. Invade in late September and hold thru the winter. Use 2 divisions in Anchorage, 1 in Fairbanks, a brigade in Juneau. 2 Divisions to guard the northern highway near Canada and spread the remaining 150,000 troops at other Strategic points. Have the troops bunk in houses and buildings next to civilians so we can't bomb them. We have found mountainous terrain near coasts (Alaska) are hard to attack from the air. So best place for sea assault would be near Nome, and of course by land on the Alaska highway. It would be spring before we could mount an attempt to retake.

during the end credits
-
where they bring Donnie Darko's body out on a stretcher?
-
..instead of gunning down the general from Cuba, they should shoot the director for making this piece of crap movie.
-
It fucking sucks that Patrick Swayze can't do the Harry Dean Stanton role in this one, as was his destiny.

Hell, even C. THOMAS HOWELL gotta eat.

Is this remake gonna take the "Omen" route and just redo the original concept the same way? Evil Soviets are SOOOOOOOO 20th Century.
-
and it will spark Right Wing Crazies in the 21 century. I can almost see FOXNews posting clips on Hannity and Bill-O and talking about the defence of America and 2nd Amendment rights in action and Socialism comes to America. <P> I will pass on the whole thing. I will watch Red Dawn tonight to respect to Patrick....cause I am Swayze Crazy today.
-
...They'd hire repo men. Pretty much own this country at this point.
-
Bullshit. <P> The US military is amazingly powerful but has frequently had it's ass handed to it as a direct result of political interference or lack of understanding of operational realities. <P>It is also a huge, swift hammer delivering a decisive blow and a fast, big win when the requirement is "shock & awe" and the target is military or infrastructure but is fuck-all good at anything that comes afterwards or acting in a surgical capacity. <P>It can project power like no other force but is notoriously bad at holding or defending. The fact that it is stocked with gung-ho ass-clowns with "all the gear, but no idea" doesn't help. <P>Remember that in the original Red Dwan the suprise attack was eventually halted and a stalemate developed? Probably a likely scenario depending on where the invaders entered and what areas they seized in the initial attack, bearing in mind that huge amounts of intelligence, man-power and kit are currently focussed overseas.
-
...that next decade we'll all be terrified of the russions. again. and no one will give a shit about those scarey arabs. <p>side note, i notice no one thinks they hve swine flu anymore now that the media is over it

Looks like a donnie Darko remake. Also, this movie should be st

I would very much like to see an Iraqi or Afghan remake of this film. Particularly Afghani, as the first one was essentially a paen to the Mujahadeen.

Let's make another movie about those dang for-in-ers and their creepy accents. I understand, we gave them all a hint of American life by building McDonalds inside all of their cities...but now they're acting like some creepy chick we hooked up with once, who's now so obsessed with us she won't stop slipping little declarations of love under the door.<p> We get it: you love us so much you can't just leave us alone. But it was God's bidding that you were born in some European/Middle-Eastern hovel, while we were born in the greatest damned country on Earth. Maybe if all your interesting little theories about reincarnation are right, you'll reincarnate as an American. For now, however, just take comfort in that good old McDonalds and watch our shows around the clock so you can learn to speak better American.
-
I was going to wonder aloud if anyone here has actually SEEN Red Dawn - you know, the one where the CUBANS invade and take over PART of the US - but it seems some of you actually have... Dude_gimme_tabs was even paying attention! <p> ok that's a little unfair, but still... maybe some memories are a little hazy? <p> I kinda like the Alaska idea - tho I heard Stallone wants to set Rambo 5 in the Arctic so it could be a little similar - esp. since that movie is already sounding like it's gonna borrow just a little bit from The Thing, so to also be just a little bit like Red Dawn Too would be... unfortunate <p> Did the (Soviet) Russians try something like that in Tom Clancy's Red Star Rising? There was an airbase in Iceland they had to hold onto or something... reminded me of controlling Kamchatka in RISK (key to the whole game IMO) <p> btw I recently saw a doco on modern hackers and they were talking about bringing down critical infrastructure - a la Die Hard 4 - with not very much effort, and that in fact this has already happened (although mostly by accident) - they also mentioned (I think I heard this somewhere else too) that this sort of "cyber-warfare" had been employed to mess with military AND civilian infrastructure in both the recent Georgian and Chechen conflicts... <p> jus sayin

I wonder what the Iraqi version of Red Dawn would be...

it's "spelled" spelt.

My neighborhood is clean but this one even with the fake props looks too clean!

Don't sign up for the military then complain about actually being made to do something. If you didn't think one day you would go to war, then you shouldn't have signed up for the free college education. Stop whining and be a man.
-
That is all.
-
mind telling me what the name of that documentary about "modern hackers" was?
-
I stand corrected :P

The many truths we cling to depend greatly on our point of view. Obi-Wan Kenobi... Can we talk about Harry Dean Stanton? Or John Milius (writer) Kevin Reynolds (screenplay)? These guys are a tough act to follow. The movie DOES still hold up 25 years later. I hope the remake does justice to the original. Makes me think of my Dad, when we saw it he said: "I'd give you my 30.-06 and supplies then send you and your brothers up into the mountains." Red Dawn is still a great movie for those of us who remember the "Real Evil Empire" not all this BS about Obama or Bush and who's fault it is. D'uh, as Americans it is our fault.
