Christoph Waltz Replaces Nicolas Cage As The Villain In THE GREEN HORNET!
Beaks here...
Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke is reporting that the magnificent Christoph Waltz has agreed to step in for Nicolas Cage as the villain "Chudnofsky" in Michel Gondry's THE GREEN HORNET. That, my friends, is what we call a bingo.
Though many were disappointed when Cage dropped out of the film (reportedly over $$$), I love the idea of Waltz goofing around with what will presumably be a more cartoony bad guy than INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS' charismatic, but deeply evil Col. Hans Landa. This could be a nice, post-Oscar victory lap for the fifty-two-year-old Austrian actor, who, prior to his appearance in Tarantino's film, was all but unknown here in the states. This is incredibly well-deserved, and will hopefully vault Waltz into bigger and better (and, perhaps, less villainous roles) in the near future.
Waltz will join Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz in the Gondry-directed film, which is currently shooting and set to hit theaters December 17, 2010.
(And kudos to Herc for suggesting Waltz might be in the running last week.)

how bad this will still be.

mouse sticks
-
I was worried that we were going to go a full 4 days without hearing something about this movie. I can put the gun down now.
-
lookin forward!
-
Take the most charismatic, impressively acted character in Tarantino's film, and repeat the type of role until it has the value of instant mashed potatoes.
-
meagan fox as catwoman
the rock as superman
something to do with district9?
-
Christoph Waltz should play every character ever.
-
And that's a FACT.
-
Think about it. First hottest Oscar contender of the year, then villain in a Seth Rogen movie. He desperately wants to get one more big fat paycheck, before he goes back to europe, I think.
-
good news indeed!
-
this is cool news.
-
Take the other Green character they were casting recently, Green Lantern. Around the time they were making the announcements, what names did we get? Ryan Reynolds and Bradley Cooper. Gee, maybe because they were in two box office successes the weekend they had to make the decision?
-
This movie just got awesome.
-
the stunt casting continues.
Oh and in case it hasn't already been said: Rogen sucks, this movie is doomed to fail, Apatow is an overrated bonehead... blah-blah-blah...
-
My English sucks. Can anyone explain what this means?

Great! Now all they have to do is replace Seth Rogen!
by AlienDragQueen
-
I never hear about him demanding big bucks and he appears in plenty of low budget flicks.
-
The phrase as written should actually suggest that he was many possible things; but unknown wasn't one of them.
The problem with that of course is the guy *was* unknown, in the U.S. It's not all Beaks' fault though. It's just colloquialisms running amok as usual.
-
The guy gave a great performance but this is such a case of casting the guy from the most recent thing to make big money.
-
Seriously, she is not good. She ruined an otherwise stellar Gangs of New York. She has also never been funny. She worked in Something About Mary, but what really did she do there? They wrote around her looks. Thats it.
-
is over at joblo right now. Its bootlegged, but still cool.
-
Christoph Waltz no longer to be in The Green Hornet.
How long you think it'll take to see this headline? I'm thinking either 24 hours, or 5 days.
-
This is not a "colloquialism run amok". The expression "all but..." means "everything short of" or "almost". The OED's got my back on this.

No one with any taste, gives a fuck about Green Hornet.
by scriptgirl_nipples
-
.. regarding Cage, this movie will rule! If Cage leaves, then it must suck. So by extension... if Waltz signs on, then it must be 10 kinds of awesome.
-
Won't let me play it at work. Hopefully it stays online till i get home.
-
No i think everyone has this in the sucking category until the name Sweaty Seth Rogans is taken off the credits and replaced with well someone who looks like could run a mile no problem.
-
German's were born to play bad guys.

-
I predict Diaz will be jumping ship very soon. You can bank on that.
-
then I'd say your English is working just fine.
-
But I still want to see it.
-
Now THAT'S some serious stunt casting!
-
the only reason the original show is remembered is because it introduced bruce lee to america....other than that its just another dumb 60's show.
-
Unfortunately, it's still Seth Rogen in the Green Hornet

I'm following you; but it is one of those weird phrases that can easily be misread. However, if the good people at Oxford say so; who am I to argue with them?
-
Zach & Miri, Funny People... can't wait to not see Green Hornet as well.
-
Over the phone: "No, sorry, I thought I would get more money than this. Yeah, I did not read the contract. I respect your opinion, but would a stupid idiot win an Oscar? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I do get paid for showing up on the set, right? Hello? Hello?"
-
I'm up for any of his movies regardless of cast. The guy has more talent in his bumhole than most of Hollywood combined.
-
It actually means that he is not very well known in the states.
-
The Green Hornet is back once again, can't wait for this one to come out.. And for any of you who don't give a shit about this movie, go fuck yourselves!!!
-
He's still living off of the clusterfuck Superman play or pay cash.
-
You've been all but helpful.

this guy wasn't in Inglorious Basterds.
-
Waltz was the only good thing about IB IMO
-
NC is giving us a sign and its one that we already seen coming!
-
...this potential mega-train-wreck of an "action/comedy" does get more intriguing as time goes by.

Talkbackers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your virginity!
-
I LOVED Waltz in Inglorious Basterds just like everyone else. The reason I liked him so much was partly because I had never ever seen this man before. He surprised me and on top of that he was incredibly good. Having him play another villain seems to be a waste of his talent. Granted I don't know what this character will be like or how similar it will be to his character in IB, but I personally would like to see him do something completely different now that I've already seen him play a great villain.
-
Because those are two very bad examples if the number 2 and number 1 box office slot in many countries (including the US) is now considered a bomb.

-
That is a fact yes. Your point is pointing out the obvious?
-
Christoph Waltz +played a great role brillantly in Inglorious Basterds, and what does Holylwood automatically think? That he's a very good actor? No, that he is a good villain.

This typecasting bullshit is really anoying. Well, at least Christoph Waltz is getting a fat paycheck.
-
? Like...fucking Awesome!
-
I mean, the movie may or may not suck (I actually think it will be pretty cool), but I doubt that Waltz even now gets all that many offers - I'm sure he took what was the most interesting part available at the time.
-
Sean Bean turns down in two years...
-
This is awesome.
-
but I like Nic Cage too. I hope this is as good for him as it is for The Green Hornet.
-
Who knew Nic Cage could make good career decisions?
-
How FUN!
-
Looks cool, but Congress needs to advance legislation that makes jumping away from an explosion in slow motion illegal. Seriously. We NEED to be done with that. It happens like 10 times in this trailer.
-
And Christoph Waltz is AWESOME!
-
I wonder if Cage got a *huge* windfall in the form of yet another pay or play contract, much like the $20M he got for never putting on the Superman suit?
-
I'll give him a shot
-
THE EXPENDABLES TRAILER LEAKED ALL OVER THE INTERNET!! CHECK IT OUT!!
-
Now I actually want to see this. Damn you, Christoph Waltz!
-
90% of the time when you see "all but", you can replace it with "virtually", and it becomes clearer.
in this example, saying that Waltz is "virtually unknown" in the US is exactly what Beaks was saying.
there's a little tip for all of you non-native speakers from a former English teacher.
-
God damn Inglorious Basterds sucked. It's like Tarantino had a half dozen cool ideas, couldn't give any up, and never fully developed a single one. Wasting half the movies run time on three dialogue scenes certainly didn't help matters either. Quentin... we know you write spiffy dialogue. Please don't bore us with hours of it if it's not advancing the plot.
-
Christoph, Christoph, Christoph, say it ain't so. Actually, I thought his Landa performance was a tad overrated. Americans are so used to crap actors that they are very easily impressed by thesps who actually can act. I found Waltz's very American accent distracting and incongruous -- far too contemporary. Well-educated Germans in the '20s and '30s learned Oxford English, just as they do now, not American English, unless they've spent an exchange year in an American high school. And besides that, it was a crap movie. Tarantino should go back to renting videos.
-
And a huge fucking one at that.
-
this show is abt jay chou!!!!
-
Not saying it's fair - just don't get your hopes up, okay?

Nic Cage to be replaced by Christopher Mintz-Plasse??
by thelordofhell
Oops, I read the headline too fast.
-
Why would he choose this? After his excellent performance in an otherwise mediocre film.
-
The performances in the film were horrible too. Particularly Brad Pitt and Eli Roth. Euck. Waltz saved the film.
-
Can't wait.

-
This project gets lamer and more desperate sounding by the moment...
-
have to see it. Its math. If you want to blame something blame the math.
-
Nic "Ghostrider, Next, Blah blah Bangkok Dangerous" Cage takes a pass it's time to get the fuck out of Dodge. Mr. Lee will be very unhappy.
-
And not a planed car crash but a car crash car crash. Check it out: http://tinyurl.com/msmn62 I love Michael Gondry but this movie keeps having bad things happen to it. #1 Seth Rogen
-
It Aint Cool. And it Aint News...
-
This will be for Gondry what Pineapple Express is for Gordon Green. I'm looking forward.
-
Adam Sandler would have gotten all of this hate that you testeless wackos are giving Seth Rogen, years ago.
-
Don't forget Observe and Report. So he's actually had three flops in a row.
Oh and Pineapple Express is mediocre at best, and easily Greens worst film. But still this zed261 is right, it will be the same. Because this will easily be Gondry's worst movie yet. And that's sad considering Be Kind Rewind is on his resume.
-
I cannot sit through a scene longer than two minutes with that drek-munger in it. He makes my skin crawl. Sadly I blame his uncle for foisting him upon us in the first place. Cage should never be forgiven for being in the Wicjerman remake - he is the king of corpse humping decent old flicks. He'd also stopped me from going to see the original films that his gurning presence and bad hairpieces have ruined. bald fuckspoon.
-
super smart casting move
-
now that Holywood noticed him with the basterds movie,he should be more careful with his next projects. He is a good actor,he has a chance to become a holywood star,he shouldnt fuck it up with movies like GH and turn into another character actor, playing only foreign roles whenever he is needed.
-
is he gonna write a song for the soundtrack?
-
Christoph Waltz's schtick.
Not that he wasn't great in "Basterds."
Nic Cage has been milking his few moves for many movies.
-
I saw "gurn" in a novel by a Scottish writer, but I can't find it in the dictionary.
-
"Basterds" cost $70 mill and "District 9" cost $30 mill. What did Tarantino do with all that money? There were some good scenes (that went too long), but the movie did not have much to it. Brad Pitt must have been paid big as in BIG.
-
Here we go with another bandwagon mob-mentality decision to hate a movie for which literally zero amount of tone or intent has been released. Remember when The Spirit was going to be "Just another Sin City" that one sure panned out huh? And then when it was the complete opposite of Sin City, remember how people complained that it wasn't "Sin City"-enough? You should all go fuck yourselves and see if you can find a reason to discredit your own loads before they happen.
-
Especially since they managed to cast an actual great actor, who has portrayed one of the most colorful and frightening villains in cinematic history. :)
-
Johnny Blaze seriously sucked.
