Christoph Waltz Replaces Nicolas Cage As The Villain In THE GREEN HORNET!

Published at:  Sep 14, 2009 12:58:09 PM CDT

Beaks here...

Deadline Hollywood's Nikki Finke is reporting that the magnificent Christoph Waltz has agreed to step in for Nicolas Cage as the villain "Chudnofsky" in Michel Gondry's THE GREEN HORNET. That, my friends, is what we call a bingo.

Though many were disappointed when Cage dropped out of the film (reportedly over $$$), I love the idea of Waltz goofing around with what will presumably be a more cartoony bad guy than INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS' charismatic, but deeply evil Col. Hans Landa. This could be a nice, post-Oscar victory lap for the fifty-two-year-old Austrian actor, who, prior to his appearance in Tarantino's film, was all but unknown here in the states. This is incredibly well-deserved, and will hopefully vault Waltz into bigger and better (and, perhaps, less villainous roles) in the near future.

Waltz will join Seth Rogen, Jay Chou and Cameron Diaz in the Gondry-directed film, which is currently shooting and set to hit theaters December 17, 2010.

(And kudos to Herc for suggesting Waltz might be in the running last week.)

The phrase as written should actually suggest that he was many possible things; but unknown wasn't one of them.

The problem with that of course is the guy *was* unknown, in the U.S. It's not all Beaks' fault though. It's just colloquialisms running amok as usual.

I LOVED Waltz in Inglorious Basterds just like everyone else. The reason I liked him so much was partly because I had never ever seen this man before. He surprised me and on top of that he was incredibly good. Having him play another villain seems to be a waste of his talent. Granted I don't know what this character will be like or how similar it will be to his character in IB, but I personally would like to see him do something completely different now that I've already seen him play a great villain.

God damn Inglorious Basterds sucked. It's like Tarantino had a half dozen cool ideas, couldn't give any up, and never fully developed a single one. Wasting half the movies run time on three dialogue scenes certainly didn't help matters either. Quentin... we know you write spiffy dialogue. Please don't bore us with hours of it if it's not advancing the plot.

    by victorvongarzo

Christoph, Christoph, Christoph, say it ain't so.
Actually, I thought his Landa performance was a tad overrated. Americans are so used to crap actors that they are very easily impressed by thesps who actually can act. I found Waltz's very American accent distracting and incongruous -- far too contemporary. Well-educated Germans in the '20s and '30s learned Oxford English, just as they do now, not American English, unless they've spent an exchange year in an American high school. And besides that, it was a crap movie. Tarantino should go back to renting videos.

    Heckles and zed261

    by mandrakeroot

Don't forget Observe and Report. So he's actually had three flops in a row.

Oh and Pineapple Express is mediocre at best, and easily Greens worst film. But still this zed261 is right, it will be the same. Because this will easily be Gondry's worst movie yet. And that's sad considering Be Kind Rewind is on his resume.

    Cage is shite

    by nobbythehappyelf

I cannot sit through a scene longer than two minutes with that drek-munger in it. He makes my skin crawl. Sadly I blame his uncle for foisting him upon us in the first place. Cage should never be forgiven for being in the Wicjerman remake - he is the king of corpse humping decent old flicks. He'd also stopped me from going to see the original films that his gurning presence and bad hairpieces have ruined. bald fuckspoon.

Bad career move for Mr Waltz

    by ominus

now that Holywood noticed him with the basterds movie,he should be more careful with his next projects. He is a good actor,he has a chance to become a holywood star,he shouldnt fuck it up with movies like GH and turn into another character actor, playing only foreign roles whenever he is needed.

It will take US audiences years to weary of

    by kabong

    Christoph Waltz's schtick.

Not that he wasn't great in "Basterds."

Nic Cage has been milking his few moves for many movies.

    nobby, what does "gurning" mean?

    by kabong

I saw "gurn" in a novel by a Scottish writer, but I can't find it in the dictionary.

    Yeah, what scrivener said.

    by kabong

"Basterds" cost $70 mill and "District 9" cost $30 mill. What did Tarantino do with all that money? There were some good scenes (that went too long), but the movie did not have much to it. Brad Pitt must have been paid big as in BIG.

    Talkbackers are retarded

    by iforgotabout19

Here we go with another bandwagon mob-mentality decision to hate a movie for which literally zero amount of tone or intent has been released. Remember when The Spirit was going to be "Just another Sin City" that one sure panned out huh? And then when it was the complete opposite of Sin City, remember how people complained that it wasn't "Sin City"-enough? You should all go fuck yourselves and see if you can find a reason to discredit your own loads before they happen.

Now I really want to see this movie!

    by evangelion217

Especially since they managed to cast an actual great actor, who has portrayed one of the most colorful and frightening villains in cinematic history. :)
