‘Just Lick It Already!!’ Sunday Brings HBO's Big Crazy TRUE BLOOD Season Finale!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!
Sookie’s hands get all glowy when she touches Maryann. I bet we see more of that tonight.
It’d also be great to see Lafayette stop cowering on floors already.
The penultimate season-two episode from two weeks ago was “Frenzy,” the first with Alan Ball’s name on the teleplay since 2.4 (the episode that brought Bill and Sookie to Dallas).
Highlights:
* Bill Compton learned from the vampire queen that everything that exists imagined itself into existence. And that the vampire queen hasn’t enjoyed sex with men since the Eisenhower administration.
* Jason Stackhouse and Andy Bellefleur learned Sam can turn into any animal he “imprints” on. (I imagine he’s imprinted on quite a few if he’s ever visited a zoo.)
* Lafayette learned Sookie now works for Eric and that they’ve both been dreaming about Eric since they drank his blood.
* Eric flew to the queen! Like he was Neo! Or Nathan Petrelli! Which makes you wonder why Bill bothers with trucks and planes and special caskets!
* An accommodating foreigner offered to have sex with Bill, who politely declined then settled in for a friendly game of Yahtzee.
* Bill learned Sookie’s cousin hangs with the vampire queen. Is that as big a coincidence as Jason and Sookie winding up at the exact same Dallas anti-vampire camp a few episodes ago?
* And, of course, Sookie discovered Tara and Eggs building a nest for a watermelon-size egg.
HBO says of tonight’s season finale:
Episode #24: “Beyond Here Lies Nothin’”
Debut: SUNDAY, SEPT. 13 (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Bon Temps reaches a fever pitch as Maryann prepares for her ultimate bestial sacrifice, conscripting Sookie to be Maid of Honor at the bloody nuptials. Meanwhile, Sophie-Anne warns Eric to keep the lid on Bill's inquisitiveness; Jason leads Andy into the heroic abyss; and Hoyt struggles with Maxine's endless stream of insults. Deliberating on what may be his final move to save Sookie and the town, Sam places his trust, and his life, in a most unlikely ally.

hell it is the first time I have had the chance to try
-
...Supernatural.
-
I love this show! I don't want it to end!!!
-
Because he can't! Different vampires, different powers. Jesus, it's in the books, the first of which was definitely written before Heroes, and (I think) The Matrix. Christ, you really just hate on this show, don't you? Why bother posting about it if you're gonna be completely subjective???
-
Oh wait...
-
Got fobbed off pretty quick by Bill. I'm thinking there is more going on there. Why would Bill lie to her/not tell her about gran?
-
I missed most of the season but I thik Bill lied by compassion. Isolated as she is, doesn't have to know.
-
I can't decide if this was spur of the moment or a publicity stunt.

Police: 'Vampire Diaries' Actresses Flashed Drivers
ATLANTA -- Five actresses and a cameraman from the CW show “The Vampire Diaries” were arrested and charged after police said the actresses were dangling off a Georgia overpass and flashing drivers.
Deputies arrested cameraman Tyler Shields, 27, and actresses, Nina Dobrev, 20, Sara Canning, 22, Kayla Ewell, 24, Krystal Vayda, 23, and Candice Accola, 22.
Mugshots of the girls are priceless. -
Those who read the books know what I'm talking about.

Let's smack down your arguments one by one..
by chronicallydepressedlemming
"It’d also be great to see Lafayette stop cowering on floors already." - Post-traumatic stress doesn't conform to your buffy-style 'all wrapped up in an hour monster-a-week episode' format Herc.
" Which makes you wonder why Bill bothers with trucks and planes and special caskets!" - Not that this should have to be spelled out to you, but how about - BECAUSE HE CAN'T FLY LIKE ERIC?
" Is that as big a coincidence as Jason and Sookie winding up at the exact same Dallas anti-vampire camp a few episodes ago?", First of all - not unlikely as there is ONE Vampire Queen in the state, and second of all there was only ONE Fellowship of the Sun Camp. The guy in charge was the main dude. How is that coincidental? It's ONE PLACE!
Blow it out your arse, Herc.
-
Plotted for another season.
-
Just like with Dresden Files I started reading the books because of the show.
The books do explain the why's and where ofs the show is based on.
Since the books are first person and the show has many more perspectives some new aspects need included to illustrate the other actors.
The biggest problem is idiots who condemn without doing the proper research.
Just like the old joke, those of us who can do READ. -
You mean like the coincidence of all the weird shit on planet Earth happening in Sunnydale?
-
Duh.
-
there was supposed to be more than one Hellmouth throughout the world.
-
Eric's supposed to be over 1000 years old. Bill is 140 or so.
Vampires powers increase with their age. -
Watching this show after a show liek Six Feet Under is basically watching a master storyteller decide he just wants to have some empty stupid fun. I can't believe he wrote any of the dialogue for this show, its so fucking stilted and terrible, the scenes between Sookie and Bill reminds me of Attack of The Clones. "Take me to roll in the grass on Naboo, Ani." Fucking shit. I watch the show, its fairly fun, but its sooo bad sometimes. I'm so sick of girls saying this is the greatest show of tv, even though the only other show they watch is Project Runway. This is the worst good show ever put on tv. The dialogu and acting are fucking atrocious each and every week. Evan Rachel Wood was so bad I actually laughed out loud.
-
Is what everyone SHOULD be watching on Sunday night
-
I'll still watch this tomorrow with Mad Men and Hung
-
So hot. So. So. Hot.
-
Packers-Bears gotta be the faggiest matchup yet.
-
I'm fairly certain they were like Hellnostrils, or Hellearholes.
Hellvagina would be the scary one. Or maybe Hellanus. -
I agree that the books are valuable as a stepping off point for the show. Herc previously made fun of Charlaine Harris for using a God for a season long Big Bad ala Buffy. What he failed to realize is that in the book, the maenad was a bit player that was there and gone. It was Alan Ball that decided to beef up the character of Maryanne and make her the seasons primary bad guy.
-
And wow, is Mark Pellegrino one of the coolest actors on TV now or what?
-
I thought her acting was horrific. She was talking way too fast and it was way overacted and amateur. Also, does anyone agree that the only vampire actor that tries to portray that he is older than 100 is Moyer (Bill). The Queen sounded like a stuck up Valley girl, and her script didn't help.
-
Hey guys, while I agree that the condescending attitude and constant posts of buffy/angel videos are annoying, at least we're getting a talkback. Herc has made it more than clear he doesn't like this show, no matter how good a guilty pleasure it is. For weeks, I and others had to practically beg him on other TB's before he finally started giving us a weekly TB of our very own. Personally, I'm just glad we're given a place on AICN to come and talk about this show, even if it's served with a large side-helping of smarm.
-
I'm wondering if this means season 3 will delve into her faerie heritage?
-

Is it a coincidence that this talkback exists?? LOL YAY Truebloo

-
...Herc is the guy that mocked Deadwood fans as well.
Serisouly Herc, can you be a bigger CUNT to the fans of things you don't personally like? -
It could be fun, but, if memory serves, the first problem is that Alan Ball fears that having you-know-who impersonator doing a brain damaged impersonation would be too over the top. That and I think cat lovers would find reason to picket the network.
-
I'm really sick of the Maryann storyline. It seems that they dragged this out far longer than was necessary. Hopefully it will be wrapped up tonight.
-
And that's supposed to be taken seriously, I can't see why a Bubba sighting can't be done. And it CAN be done. I just think Alan Ball hates the character.
-
The TV series and the books are their own things. The books inform the series, but the series changes characters and events, and in the end it must stand on its own two feet. Reading the books beforehand could inform them on the universe, and if they are fans, it should be encouraged, but no movie or tv show should ever be given a pass by a critic because they were enlightened by the source material.
-
Spike didn't "just so happen" to get his soul back. He sought to get it back because he was trying to follow in Angel's footsteps (figured getting his soul back would win him Buffy's heart). Dawn was foreshadowed back in S3, not just dropped inbecause the characters were "stale." Again, there are deliberate outgrowths of preexisting stories. Jason and Sookie ending up in the same compound independently is also not a coincidence- there are reasons why these characters were chosen. However, it seems odd that Sookie's cuz just so happens to be with the lesbo queen - kind of like Buffy's S4 boyfriend just so happened to be part of a secret military operation.
-
If you've read the books you'd know that there's a VERY good reason that Sookie's cousin is there (and in the books, she's a vampire herself, not a sweet little fangbanger). My only concern is it appears that Ball is totally changing that portion of the story and its ramifications. Bill knows EXACTLY who she is... and has known for a long time. It's ERIC who doesn't know...
-
Does Sam not turn into a frivken BEAR or TIGER or RHINO or something? if he has not imprinted then yet then why does he not turn into a DAMN bird and find some crazy killer animals to turn into, he'd be a force to be reckoned with if he did.
-
good fucking point... turn into a rhino! or a hippo... or a fucking lion!!!
-
Because this show is functionally fucking retarded.
-
I like the show, that part i just dont understand:P
-
Your little comments on little minute points of True Blood (most which can be explained easily- as your readers have shown) while heralding Buffyverse every chance you get like it was the pinnacle of entertainment instead of cartoon trash for youngsters makes you sound like a little sourpatch kid who wants his old candy back- jealous that the world has moved on and that new tastes have become popular. When you stop whining like a little bitch and feel like writing some real columns on this site please let us know. Until then maybe you should don the bra and panties at home and at least pretend to be a man here.
-
Paint himself green and go at it.
-
There. I said it.
-
At the risk of getting yelled at about refring to the book, Sam can turn into large beasts like Lions. In fact during the "Were War" he did turn into a Lion and kicked some ass. Also as much as it would be cool to see Bubba I would rather they brought in either Trey Dawson or Amelia Broadway. Especially Amelia then we could get some lezbo action with her and Pam.On a related note, fuck you Alan Ball, for not getting the Pam character right on any level.Does anybody else find it funny that Herc trolls his own posts? Its even funnier that talkbackers fall for it every time.
-
with three more episodes?
-
The show is fucking awesome and has a HUGE fan-base. Also the vast majority of critics love it. Let's just hope Vampire-Diaries-BOMB doesn't hurt the Vamp hype...
-
Pretty simple.
-
Really who doesn't want to see a retarded cat blood sucking Elvis?
Just how do they work out Lesbianism with Sookie being first person? Does she watch?
-
Just in case anyone forgot. They actually seemed to test a Spike/Buffy relationship well before it happened.
By the way Seven of Nine replaced Gina Bellman on Leverage. -

DD: Do you think any films are must-see opportunities for fans of the Sookie Stackhouse novels or your other books?
CH: Must-see? No. But I’d recommend Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the television series), of course....
Comparisions between the two shows are not as out of the question as some like to think.
-
Alan Ball was sick of Six Feet Under after 5 and was forced to do another. There's no way he'll let this shit go to 9. If you're bored with a show as quality as Six Feet Under and move on to a show like this...I stand by my assertion that he isn't trying. He's just trying to have some mindless, meaningless fun for a few years. 9 Seasons...I bet he'd rather kill himself.
-
my message to Anna Paquin.
-
Uh...there are only five seasons of Six Feet Under.
-
This show has 10x the fans of Six Feet Under... don't be so sure could easily go 7+ seasons...
-
is a fucking simpleton. Especially during this hellishly long and boring season.
The only thing that's been interesting has been the Hoyt/Jessica romance, and that's been pushed to the background so hard it's pathetic.
ENOUGH WITH FUCKING MARYANNE. That has got to be the absolute worst fucking storyline in any fantasy series I've ever watched. -
Good riddance to Eggs too!!! And I agree with MidnightMeatTain's assesment of the Hoyt/Jessica romance. That was THE most compelling aspect of this season. It will be interesting to see what they do with those two in Season 3, given what happened tonight.
-
Never will.
I wish I could unwatch Bill singing...Other than that it's been pretty cool.
Maryanne would have been a good character to have for a couple more seasons. -
money! Artistic expression sometimes interfers w/ ethics.

Season 2 was fantastic, and it's the best finale since..........

The finale to the fifth season of "Lost."
-
it'll go as long as it wants. Studios love money, you know, and don't like leaving it on the table.
-
it'll go as long as it wants. Studios love money, you know, and don't like leaving it on the table.
-
....then he stated he was bored after four and was contractually obligated to a fifth. Big deal. Still a fact.
-
How the fuck was Sam able to gore stab the Maenad when both A) a vampire biting her has no affect as well as ya know, B) she's fucking bullet proof (as seen when she deflected a bullet with the palm of her hand).
If there was some "she was low on energy" excuse they sure as hell didn't explain it, and yea, so far from the source material in the books its not even funny, seriously, gored by Sam? Yea it was cool to see but come on.. I expected better Mr. Ball, really. -
Is an absolute moron who doesn't know what great satire is. Nor do they enjoy great writing, great acting, direction, aesthetics, and characterization. Fact.
Just stick with Michael Bay films, and never set eyes on a genius like Alan Ball. -
Alan Ball never said he was tired of "Six Feet Under." And he only had enough story to create 5 seasons. Deal with that fact.
-
How can a finale have 10 minutes of substance and 50 minutes of clock eating blah blah blah . . . ? Intriguing enough ending though. Too easy for Eric to be the culprit???
-
I think the inference was that she was letting it happen- thinking that Sam really was her god- saying something like "Am I to be the sacrifice? YES! Sacrifice me!" or whatever. By the time she realized it was Sam- her heart was already pulled from her chest.
-
Stop sucking on Joss' tit for five minutes. This show is better written and allot less annoying. I'll bet my life there will never be a "True Blood Musical Episode."
-
DD: Do you view any films as educational for would-be or beginning writers?
CH: I think writers benefit from being exposed to good writing, and there are many well-written films and TV series out there that can teach the aspiring writer a lot, especially about dialogue. Buffy, of course. Homicide was maybe the best television series ever, with fantastic writing and acting. Of course, No Country for Old Men was absolutely great from every standpoint, and I also really enjoyed both the television series Firefly and the movie Serenity.
-
and by the same token can imagine itself out. She accepted and wanted to die, she believed it was her god come to take her away, and she got what she wanted. One of the better things this show has ever done actually. You can tell Ball scripted this episode, the dialogue was only %50 shit tonight.
-
you are a retard if you are and adult and like it a whoe lot

Bill explained that certain vampires have different powers.
-
but this season was really cheesy in a lot of ways. the maryanne story line was godawful and im just happy that its over with. this season really took a nosedive after godrics' death.
i think the explanation for her death was that she would be vulnerable when she had sacrificed sam and thought that her god had came back. that shit was a copout though. it was just poorly done. -
Go watch Transformers 2 for the fiftieth time. You've no business on a True Blood talkback, fucking troll.

pretty obvious its going to be eric or one of his minions.

you guys fight youre married. a han solo-princess leia dynamic is developing between you two i think.

if they do the sookie is a fairy stuff that is in the books
by martinlutherkrangjr
then im out. that sounds beyond gay-tarded.
now every troll will get to run amock with fairy comments. -
The entire season went downhill after the transcendent "I Will Rise Up," which *should* have been the finale. THIS finale was poorly paced, poorly written and utterly dull. Why was it fixated on Eggs, a totally minor character? Why are we constantly subjected to Bill and Sookie's utterly pedestrian "great love" (Jesus, they make Angel and Buffy seem epic)? Michelle Forbes' character was given a stupid, ignoble ending. And who cares if Lorena kidnapped Bill? So, so boring. Eric is turning into Fonzie!Spike, and Godric is dead, so there's no real reason to watch anymore. I'm done with this show.
-
Not Eric - that is, unless Ball has decided to totally change the story from the books and make him the EVOL villain who does not deserve Sucky! Also, in the books Bill was instructed to get next to Sookie by the Queen, who had heard she was "special." I'll bet they leave that out too, because Ball and company are totally whitewashing Bill.
-
though it seems like it would be eric instead. i just wrote her off after godric dissed her in front of everyone. eric told the queen he would take care of bill so it seemed logical to me. guess i will have to wait a year and see, if i even care by then. they will have to atone for this substandard season to get me interested.
-
that was a bright spot.
-
Actually in the books the Fairys are dangerous, violent asskickers and a half. Plus I want to see who the would cast as Claudine Sookies guardian. She's 6 feet of super hot warrior women.
-
that they would build maryanne up all season (to the point where it harmed the show) only to kill her off in the first ten minutes of the finale? the last 50 mins was just waiting for the final second where they wer going to bust out the cliffhanger for next year.
-
or magical earth gaia powers? thats the vibe i was getting, if thats not the case then please do tell, i don't mind spoilers either.
-
True blood uses the books as an outline for the show. Book 3 will equal season 3 and Lorenas actions were the driving issue for that book. At least i think that was in book 3. I've got feeling though most of the next season will come right out of the writers heads and depart even more wildly from the books.
-
In the books Fairys look human but aren't, well except for the half fairys. All fairys like to fight and are way stronger then humans and can wield magic and can take a lot of punishment and stay on thier feet.SPOILER WARNING In the latests book there is a fairy war going on with a lot of assinations. The book ended up in a big battle and Bill almost bit it, another vamp named Clancy did and Eric was hurt bad. Also there were these two psycotic assassin Fairys that kidnapped Sookie, tortured her and had sex while biting her. Did I mention that the assassin fairy were siblings? END SPOILERNow what Ball will do I have no clue he's gone way off the reservation in a lot of areas. So I wouldn't be surprised if the ass kicking Fairys become Tinkerbell.
-
ive read the first book only, but friends of mine who have read them all say that the changes made are almost always worse than what was originally plotted. the fairies in the book sound pretty bad ass though.
-
I've had some issues with some of the changes Ball made but there also some good ones. Layfette and Tara are way diffrent then the books but are good changes. The red headed vamp story line is all Ball's creation and its worked so far.On the other hand I'm still pissed about Pam, that one sucks bad. Pam was great in the book and not a bitchy lazy bitch.
-
thing about this season. I always wondered if they had planned on killing Lafayette but once they saw the fan reaction they kept him and expanded his role. he is definetly one the best changes. pam looks too old to me.
-
Was the PR vampire broad. I liked the concept and they executed that one well.
-
is she very powerful or just able to threaten them (eric and godric) because she is the face of the organization.
-
...is that I absolutely can't stand either main character. Sookie is an annoying, whiny bitch, and Bill is a huge, gaping pussy.
I keep watching it cuz I dig all the secondary characters, though this season has been very lackluster.
Thank you, Mr. Ball, for making me dread the sight of Michelle Forbes. -
Seeing her get naked.I thought her power came from the fact that she's the face of the vampires. If I remember right Eric said something about her being a bureaucrat or something.
-
but the show is still better than most of the shit thats on. im watching the wire now, and loving it, perhaps thats making me a little more critical of this show then i normally would be.
-
Which is to bad. I kind of agree about Michelle Forbes even though she still makes my feel funny in the pants.
-
Its voice is so clear and confident. The guy that said Alan Ball isn't trying just because he the show is fun and, at times, silly. It's true that this show requires the suspension of disbelief nesseccary to accept that vampires and the other supernatural creatures are alive and together on our world! Alan Ball is doing something that might be described as "building a career" branching out to the more reality based drama like Six Feet Under and American Beauty to a show that can define itself in a range of tones.
I could care less about Buffy comparisons. You all are just going to have to share your vampires. -
Last time he posted that completely cheesy fight scene with SMG, this week evanescence? Heh.
-
Looking forward to next season. Problem is this is getting tossed in with the Twilight hate. Sorry don't care for the Twilight stuff but I love this show.
-
specifically, Evan Rachel Wood tits.
-
"you are a retard if you are and adult and like it a whoe lot"
-
The Maryanne subplot should've remained on the back burner instead of moving to the front after the Fellowship of the Sun storyline ended. Maybe when the Season 2 DVD set comes out, I'll watch them out of order so I can end the season with Godric's death instead.
-
but this season was definately sophmore slump.
-
everything happened as I expected, but still it wasn't as entertaining as the previous episodes were.

Also Eric is gonna fuck up Bill, it was him behind the gloves.

-
It's true that Alan Ball has changed a bit, but I think most of the changes are very much for the better. I haven't seen anything yet that contradicts anything from the books and his changes are necessary to develop the other characters and give them all something to do. The books are all in first person from Sookie's perspective and her perspective is pretty self-centered, narrow-minded and selfish a lot of the time. She tends to think with her libido and jump to conclusions when it regards the men in her life. I think introducing Lorena in this storyline makes sense and easily sets up the torture/kidnapping of Bill for the next season. It was obviously Lorena who kidnapped Bill at the end of this season and the Eric statement was a red herring for those who haven't read the books. Also, to be fair with Ball's interpretation of Pam, she didn't really do much in the first two books and her personality wasn't as fully shown until the 4th book when Eric loses his memory. I like the books, but I think that the show's changes are absolutely necessary because you can't do the show from a first person perspective. Hell, Dexter is the same way. The books are great, but the show pretty much threw the books out the window after the first season.
-
The Wire will make you hate almost everything on tv, thats how good it is. This "being more critical" than normal thing, just prepare for it to get worse. When you finish The Wire, you will stare at everything on television in disgust, thinking to yourself..."yeah, its okay...but its not The Wire." And nothing ever will be. Nothing will ever be quite good enough again. I'm happy for you that you are experiencing the greatest show of all time, but I also sort of feel bad for you, knowing you will join the legions of us who now are forced to watch television with jaded eyes. Mad Men is literally the only thing on television that actually makes me think "quality" the way The Wire does, and even it falls incredibly short. Oh well...it's all part of the game, right?
-
but I do agree the final scene was slightly underwhelming... maybe because I'm not a hopeless romantic. But, there were plenty of other episodes with better cliff-hangers.
-
This is set in New Orleans? Shouldn't the vampire queen be played by a Truman Capote look-a-like then?
-
God Lafayette rules. Kind of a lame finale though. Eggs was tedious in every way and the actor playing him wasn't worth a piss.
-
Sep 14, 2009 11:27:40 AM CDT
I agree The Finale was LAME. But Season 3 will rule
by disney_retcond_my_std
The Maryann thing never worked for me (see Glory on Buffy) but the Queen/Eric/Lafayette connection should build into something cool in the third season.
-
but he ain't got nothing on omar from the wire
-
Okay, anyone else surprised Jason went black eyed when Sookie didn't? Any explanation from the books on that because it seems inconsistent.
-
I remember tuning in and out and dismissing season one last year, but this one just drew me in with the Fellowship of the Sun storyline-as it did many, many people..
Got me reading the books by borrowing them because had to know.
having read the first three books in the last 2 weeks-i agree with most that the diversions-changes have all been very well done.
Finale spoilers-season gripes-.......hardly any-really, *except* the Tara running back to Eggs after getting *deprogrammmed*-that annoyed the hell outta me. But hey- they fixed that in a very permenant way-no offense to the actor playing eggs. he did a very professional job of playing an utter ass---and blammo-say goodnight-ha ha.
Think Alan ball/the writers were incredibly smart to buff up the matyann storyline-especially after the fellowship of the Sun.
See, bad Christians, followed by very bad pagans--when was the last time you saw genuine human sacrifice on TV-certainly not on CSI Miami.
Caruso-i'm talking about you--take your your sunglasses off-and bam someone eats your heart-Nice.
The twilight haters have a point-but this show/series ain't even that show-and oh yeah, the ratings complete the argument.
Finally, this is a series which women read-therefore knowledge about it is a good thing-oh yeah you haters are more into furby anime cosplayers or something. Ding! -
Dang that was intense.
-
Jason is special,..like Sookie...but has no "spark" as they call it in the books.
His ability is fucking chicks.....thats about it.
Until Sookie finds out who he looks like....(fairy related). -
are better on the show than in the books. But I just don't like the way they're handling the Sookie-Bill relationship. A proposal? WTF? I guess their relationship won't end like in the books (SPOILER) with Bill cheating on her than raping her. Best part of the books IMHO. You're fucking with a dead guy, you like the danger, you get what you payed for
-
My theory is that the vampire power elite want to entrap V addicts. The stage was set last season when we saw that closeted politician purchasing V from Lafayette. Recall how the Senator in The Godfather, Part 2 sold his soul to the mob. Lafayette has been co-opted; he is headed for a world of incredible hurt. How cool is that!
Alan Ball has definitely departed from the novels with this and the Nan Flanagan (the PR flack) story lines. The beauty of it is how well he is building this story. I am looking forward to this story line being a major thread in coming seasons. -
I liked the way this season was structured with these dichotomies. Each had its paragon; each paragon met its maker. This was brilliant stuff in my opinion. And this was a great season. How often is classical philosophy and ancient mythology (okay, I admit it was tweaked) given venue on television?
-
***SPOILER WARNING READ AT YOUR OWN RISK***Clarifaction Bill Didn't actually rape Sookie, he was bad hurt and had been denied blood for an extended period of time. He desperately needed blood so when he woke up and Sookie had been locked in the trunk with him, by Debbi Pelt, he attacked to get blood. Yes it was an attack but not a sexual assault.***END SPOILERS***I disagree about how they are handling Jason and Andy I think the changes they made were not for the better, neither one was a blithering retard like how they are portrayed. they do tend to get some funny lines though. The change Ball in Lafeyettte are great considering he was in about two pages in the book. Sam I think they got pretty good and the casting is great look wise.
-
Sookie and the Rattray guy when she through the silver chain around the guy's neck? They were talking about the nature of God, and then about what Sookie was, and that flashback stuck in her mind, but why?
-
I really liked him, was hoping he was staying on. That was fucked up.
-
Neither Jason nor Andy are consummate jerks as they are in the books.
Although I have to wonder if by having Jason assassinate Eggs the powers that be have committed character assassination. Jason does not escape this series on a happy, go lucky note. That and Andy takes the heat for the killing. -
I think that flashback was meant to serve as a reminder to all the other times Sookie has narrowly, and luckily, escaped death or harm because of something unexplainable that has happened. A normal person wouldnt throw a chain at someone necks and have it wrap around them like a noose to their death. That just doesn't happen. She's gifted, and when she gets into sitautions of great distress, she "wills" things to happen, like the fairy light that escaped her hands when she needed it to. I think it was just going back and showing that some of the things that happened to her weren't just "luck" but actually had some connection to her past/heritage etc.
Then again, as previously stated, this show is about as functionally retarded as they come, so it could just be some useless bullshit for all I know. -
**SPOILER WARNING***
No, go back and read... he raped her too... "I seem to be having sex with you in a closet..." or something like that.
But that's sort of beside the point because he fucking LEFT HER for another woman who he loved more. Wanted to "pension her off". Ignored her constantly. Gave money to his long-lost relatives rather than helping her out and was all in all a horrible boyfriend who took her for granted!!
Oh and he LIED TO HER from the moment he met her and used her for the sake of his queen (though she doesn't know that until later).
I'd say the rape and draining near to death was the least of the troubles in their relationship.
This is what bothers me the most about the show... Bill and Sookie are NOT a great love story. He uses her and takes her for granted and then leaves her... He NEVER proposes to her!! He treats her like crap.

Twin Peaks
Six Feet Under
The Sopranos
That is it... -
Twin Peaks; Six Feet Under; The Sopranos. That is it.

I think maybe it's you that should reread the books. Bill falls in love with Sookie, despite being sent by the queen to spy on her. It's only the same plot as about a million romantic comedies or straight out romances. Bill treats her better than anyone else. The money thing is pretty dumb. Sookie is just a self centered little bitch most of the time. And as for leaving her for Lorena, he didn't have a choice. She was his maker and she called him and told him she would kill Sookie if he didn't, so he was protecting her by leaving her. The big problem with the books is that they are first person from Sookie's POV, so you never get to see what anyone else thinks and Sookie certainly is not the brightest candle on the cake.

I must get around to reading the books, so at least a have a rough idea where this may be going. I enjoy True Blood, even if it is an indulgence.
I read these talkbacks with people arguing about these shows, when it all comes down to a matter of opinion. Someone mentioned The Wire above - one of the best television series I ever saw. I've seen it described as a 'visual novel', perhaps it appealed to my love of reading. Nonetheless, I wouldn't call it THE BEST - Deadwood, for one, was a better made program IMHO. And I see no reason to compare every show I watch from now on to The Wire. You watch different shows for different reasons, just like you read different books for different reasons (well, I do anyway). I might compare it to other police procedurals, but that doesn't exactly work either - I got more enjoyment watching The Shield than watching The Wire, even though The Wire is undoubtedly the better show. Like I said, different strokes.
So I can enjoy indulging in True Blood just like I did with Buffy. Or I can watch Party Down or The Office for a decent laugh (I miss Arrested Development!). I can live the 'outlaw' life watching Sons of Anarchy or Breaking Bad. Or I can watch Mad Men for my "visual novel" fix!
The Wire may have left a bit of a void, but there's always something out there to help fill it. Just keep an open mind and don't put anything up on a pedestal. Perfection is a paradox - we all strive for it but can never attain it, because if we do...well, what's left? Perhaps Crow3711 has the answer ;) -
Ok so if Jason has the same fairy nature that Sookie has, how come he was so easily taken over by Maryann's spell? Huge plot hole........ And if Sam can only shift after he's imprinted from an animal, are we supposed to believe they just had some big ass bull wandering around the town?...... I'm all for suspension of belief in order to enjoy a show, but I feel that this show is just getting lazy.
-
Six Feet, Peaks nor Sopranos are better than the Wire by any stretch- as good as those shows are (especially 6Feet and TP).
-
Most people here haven't read the books, so shut the fuck up with all of that. It's called a spoiler warning, if you must.
-
Uou are correct sir. I went and looked it up. Apparently I did not remeber that incident occuring. Thank you for the pick up.
-
I never thought Andy was a jerk in the books he just was sort of a goofball in opinion.
-
Tasty, tasty trash.I thought it was going to be a different show than it is. Tara's story in Season 1 - heartbreaking, harsh, a lot more compelling than Bill saying "Sookeh!" a hundred times an hour while smoldering. And that's about it, honestly. Everything else is pornography. And that's cool - it is what it is. I agree with the statement about eating time for 50 minutes - and every single episode does this to a degree. Ten minutes to wrap up last week's cliffhanger. 30-40 minutes of "Sookeh! Sookeh! Sookeh!" Ten minutes to set up another cliffhanger. I still dig on it, but it's junk food.

***SPOILER****
Actually, I just finished re-reading book 3 (which is the most pertinent to this discussion). I agree with you that he definitely does fall in love with her and regrets his actions, no question. But he does state that he loves Lorena and it's mentioned in a later book how rare their love connection is. He wasn't being forced to leave Sookie for her... he was choosing to leave Sookie for her but he did want to protect Sookie in the long run and make sure she was provided for. Anyway, it's a minor point because he was ignoring her a lot before-hand for the sake of his computer program and such. I agree with you that Sookie can be petty, especially towards Bill, but he was her first love and I think she holds him to a higher standard, whether that's fair or not.
The trouble with the whole using for the queen thing isn't that he did it (because honestly who didn't see that coming) it's that he was never open and honest with her about it even after he supposedly fell in love with her. Sookie is surrounded by men that are using her and not being up front with her about it (Alcide, Bill, Calvin, Quinn, Jason, Andy). The only one who is completely honest with her is Eric, and possibly Sam (though he wasn't honest with her about his being a shifter, but that's sort of understandable).
Anyway, the point remains that no matter your read on the whole Lorena situation, the Bill/Sookie love affair (and yes, I do think they love each other) is that it's got problems... major ones (rape, near killing, lying to her when there was no need anymore, etc.) and minor ones (the money thing, etc.). No matter which way you slice it Bill NEVER proposed to Sookie and there's no getting around that.
At least that's my two cents worth.

I agree there are issues and that Sam is the only one that never lied to her, but even in the books Eric has lied to her (about the bullet and getting her to ingest his blood). Like I said, though, the main problem with the books is you only see Sookie's point of view. There could be a million reasons why everyone else did what they did but you'd never know because you can't get in their heads.

That was by far the lamest episode of the season, thus my first ever True Blood post. How could a Glory/Jasmine type being be fooled into thinking the very being she wanted to sacrifice was her god?
Yes I am your god a big giant white bull, now let me plow through your heart when a bullet slug bounces right off of you?
It was almost as bad as the first two or so episodes this season still dwelling on the Ghram's BS. Get over it was a whole season ago for us, were over it.
Then let us not forget the big bad was killed in the first 20 mins of the episode, which then drug on and on VERY boring like. They setup some interesting stories for next year, yes. However some of those things could have been left to next season's opener.
Example: Sam searching for his parents, took up a good whole 5 or 6 minutes of screen time, this could have been better devoted to something else.
Example: Eggs was a minor character, whats with the setting up and lying about Jason having to kill him? Andy was an officer of the law being physically threatened by someone who could have been on drugs, Jason legally had the right to shoot him. Why cover it up, why spend time on it in the first place? Why just not let Tara and Eggs be fine?
I was kinda expecting that Eggs would have been in on it with Maryanne the whole time, and after her death he might have continued on trying to summon their god, at least thats what I was hoping for once Maryanne bit it faster then Jasmine did, (oh and in the same basic mannerism too, Jasmine adored Connor and needed him, Maryanne needed Sam). Too bad though it panned the total opposite direction.
This season ender to me is kind of (I really hate to compare it to this but I must) the end of Heroes Season 1. All that build up for Peter vs Sylar some big battle then all we get is a bunch of BS (why was Nikki hitting Sylar? She never even met the dude nor Peter, wouldn't she be trying to get her mortally injured husband help? Anyway I digress in this) But overall I am iffy about next season. This season was great up till Sookie's return to her home town. It quickly went down hill with Maryanne somehow able to have isolated a whole town from the world. Overall, the season ender ruined the season as a whole for me. When I look back at the season I'll watch only the Children of the Sun stuff, skip over the Jasmine errr Maryanne bits. -
But I'm glad that Maryanne is now dead. Hopefully the show can move on to better stories next season. Actually, scratch that--I want them to kill off all of the characters except Eric, Lafayette and Andy. Those three can have their own spin-off in which they're all roommates living in a great, cosmopolitan city. They can't stand each other, but have nobody else to turn to. Hijinks ensue. Don't even try to tell me that that shit wouldn't be amazing!
-
Which is why he was swayed over to Maryann's side so easily - he's a total human, with no supernatural ability (well, not until it's forced on him in one of the later books, and there's no guarantee Ball will keep that plot point). As someone else mentioned, he does have some faint vestigial ability in the form of his attractiveness to women, but it doesn't amount to much.
-
When Bill met with the vampire queen to discuss what she knew of Maenad's, he was told that essentially they were invincible because they had imagined themselves that way. Ergo, Maryanne's mortality or immortality was, in essence, her own choice. When they fooled her into thinking Dionysus had arrived and was demanding Maryanne as a sacrifice to fully manifest, she "decided" she could sacrifice herself. Ergo, she decided she would die to fulfill her ultimate goal - bringing Dionysus back to life. I actually thought they wrapped that up pretty niceley.

Thanks for that. I admit I haven't read the books myself. Was just going off some cliff notes summary that a friend of mine who loves the books had passed along. I am thinking I may have to read the series. Sounds like the books are way more interesting than this series is turning out to be.

I have a few complaints about the season finale, but none of them are what other people here are complaining about. My biggest beef? The marraige proposal. In the books, *spoiler* the two split ways. It's not that I care that the show diverges from the books... in fact, I enjoy it thoroughly since it keeps me on my toes... but the story got SO much better after Sookie started dating around the supernatural community. SO MUCH BETTER. And I was really hoping that the show would at least go in that same direction so that we don't have to keep watching those two pine after each other. Seriously, that part is getting old as hell.
-
go scratch a post or something...the fact that it wasnt established that a bull was in town is pointless..obviously their was...and the other thing that was never established was that jason has a gift like sookie, or even if he does, what the details of that gift are....if u are referring to something mentioned in the books then u should know they havent been following the books page for page....its not lazy writing just because u were left unsatisfied...
-
i wasnt at all surprised by them killing him off, he came in with the maryann plot and i knew he was going out with it...we all know andy will spill the beans to tara that it was jason that shot eggs in andys defense. and it was obviously set up to seem like eric kidnapped bill but i wouldnt be surprised if its someone totally different...we shall see..
-
I totally agree with you!! That's my big complaint too... maybe I wasn't stating it clearly enought above...
It was at that point in the show that I was like WTF?!?!?! That's such a divergence and it pisses me off. Story-wise she just can't be tied down that early. You're right... she needs to head out into that larger community and meet with some far more interesting characters than Bill. Also, (and this was my complaint above) it paints Bill as more in to her than I think he is at that point. The end of book 2 and start of book 3 is when they separate more or less, not when he proposes!! Gah!!
