The Russian SOLOMON KANE Trialer Is Here For The Moment...
Merrick here...
I'm not exactly sure where this comes from, although I suspect it may've originated over at ComingSoon (HERE) who describes the project thusly:
The first part in a trilogy series, the film is an epic adventure adapted from the classic pulp stories by Robert E. Howard, creator of "Conan the Barbarian." Solomon Kane (James Purefoy) is a 16th Century soldier who learns that his brutal and cruel actions have damned him. Determined to redeem himself, Kane swears to live a life of peace and goodness but is forced to fight once more when a dark power threatens the land.
So here's the SOLOMON KANE trailer - in Russian. I don't know what they're saying, but it gives you a good sense of the film's style and production values I think. No word on release dates/patterns yet (to the best of my knowledge).

on this.

I'd see it as a rental.
-
But I will check out the full movie when it comes out. Never judge a movie by its trailer.

Doing voiceovers for trailers in Russia
-
This is just "Van Helsing 2: From Another Camera Angle"
-
Damn. Somebody just whupped out a UHF joke. Not a very good joke, but whatever. Librarians with swords = I'm there.
-
electric bugaloo. Someone had to write it. Might as well be me.
-
Actually, having read the books, I think it has the feel of those novels. Very bleak and brutal.
-
Puritanical ass-kickery... and get ready for a landslide of Van Helsing ripoff accusations. It's kind of like people who accuse The Kinks of ripping off Van Halen. Van Helsing was a poor Solomon Kane ripoff, not the other way around.
-
I love that guy. And yeah, it looks pretty cool too.
-
When in reality, The Puppetmasters came out a few years before Invasion of the Body Snatchers.
-
Van Helsing? Because of the HAT? What a load of douchebags, it doesn't matter jack shit what people put on film any more, if it's got action it's cheesy action, cgi destruction? there's not enough story, too much story and it's boring, sitting your fat, lazy, uninspired asses in front of your computers pissing on every damned thing, oh! unless it's Tim Burton or the Coen Brothers.
-
I'll have a bottle of what he's had, thanks...
Seriously, out of all the pulp writers, Howard's work is probably the least interesting as movie source material.
This has derivative writ large all over its rugged but instantly forgettable pasty countenance... -

Is it just me, or does it look like a sequel to Van Helsing?
by hint_of_smegma
Still, James Purefoy is fucking cool, so I'll give it a go. Looks like a fun flick for a Friday night.
-
The more REH the better, I'm happy. Also, anybody notice that the voice they are using for Solomon sounds like the main dude from Nightwatch/Daywatch?
-
when the Dark Lord rules the Earth, dubbing will be outlawed, well dubbing and cockteasers
-
been too long. now where is red nails.. its overdue.
-
That statement amuses me. A lot.
-
Yes, this looks good. Put it on the 'See' list.
-
Stephen Sommers ripped off the production for his hack Van Helsing from the design of Solomon Kane as described by Howard in the 19 fricken 20's! Not the other way around? What came first? Solomon Kane or the uneducated dumbass? Answer? Solomon Kane
-
...and the bearded old man was fooled.
-
I have seen this movie and it doesn't just suck, it blows. Don't be fooled by the constant pimping on this site. Don't go see it.
-
Looks like Van Helsing meets Lord of the Rings. And did I see some of the creatures from The Descent in there as well?
-
Holy heck that trailer hops around faster than a frog on an open grill. I hope that when they edit it for the U.S. they have longer storytelling cuts. Of course, trailers like this are usually cut this way so that people can't dweall on them too long, indicating a product that will, in all likelihood, stink.
-
This footage doesn't convey the scale of the movie.
-
How is this out in Russia and not America already?
-
was in turn a rip off of Solomon Kane.
-
are the same fucking person
-
You can't deny, Van Helsing was a rip off of Solomon Kane in terms of his wardrobe. Not much else, sure, but at least this won't have count chocula as the villian.
-
Just bought WolfHound on DVD-the russians are kickin our butts in fantasy world these days.
Meh all you want naysayers-you will be wrong in the end-This movie looks fantastic!
People call me... WolfHound :D -
You got that right! For me it's a tie between Van Helsing or Blade: Trinity for movies with the worst Draculas ever.
-
They are devils and demons-messed up ones!-Check yourself before you wreck yo self!
Maybe you should go watch Michael Jackson's new movie, "This is it" -
twogunjames got it right how much Richard Roxbury sucked in that fucking role.
Even if Solomon Kane ends up eating a hot bowl of shit in the final product, it's trailer is still more entertaining than the whole of Van Helsing.
This looks pretty good right now, but I have a feeling it'll be this year's Outlander in returns. -

Allright you primative screwheads, LISTEN UP!
by the reluctant austinite
Stephen Sommers stole the look and nature of Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane to squander on that epic piece of shit, "Van Helsing." Not the other way around. This is not "Van Helsing 2," but due to this ignorance on the part of American audiences, I will likely have to watch this film on the SyFy channel, because American distributors aren't going to pick it up for theatrical distribution. Damn you! Damn you all to HELL! I want to see "Solomon Kane" NOW!
-
Huh? I'm sure that was meant to be some kind of an insult but it makes no sense. "devils and demons-messed" Wha?
Roxbury: shitty Dracula ... Purcell: shitty GQ Dracula or "Drake" but they refer to him as 'the original' -
FUUUUUCK..And I actually liked Van Helsing escapist trash as it were. Same way I like Zoolander. It's stupid as shit but I can't turn it off.
-
We speak English round these parts, pilgrim. Get it? Pilgrim? Because Solomon Kane was a ...never mind, I fail at life.
-
Mr.LordBronco you are right sir..The Ruskies are kicking our butts in the fantasy dept. and doing it for less. Wolfhound was a wake up call..We have to be ever vigilent against the sneaky Russians and their takeover of Hollywood as we know it..Before you know it they'll be doin Conan the King and it will be in russian for gawd's sake..We must not allow those pesky Ruskies the chance to take over the fantasy film world..
-
Looks like shit.
-
no offense to Wolfhound fans.
-
If you watched Rome, you now that James Purefoy is a superstar waiting to break out, hopefully this will do it. Looks like fun.
-
I really want to see this.
-
the way some people say this is ripping off van helsing is the exact same bullshit that some totally ignorant fools claim that lord of the rings was just a rip off of star wars. that makes me laugh so damn hard.
-
u liked van helsing in the same way you like zoolander?? i can accept that you like watching van helsing for escapist fun, but seriously, zoolander was actually quite clever in it's way and funny as hell... the only way i can find humor in van helsing is by laughing AT it, not with it. zoolander, definately laugh with it.
-
and that kid grew up and had a kid with Hellboy, this movie would be the result.
-
The film isn't Russian made, it just happens that it got distro there, and a trailer released first. It'll probably get a direct to DVD release in the US. Maybe ondemand the same day, something like that. Unless some studio exec pulls his head out of his ass and sees what a huge film this could be. Could be the next District 9 if they gave it a chance.

If Christopher Lambert and Hugh Jackman had a love child...

Only good thing about Van Helsing.
-
I made a plague doctor costume to wear to the Renaissance festival, but I never got a chance to go.
-
Don't forget the template that they were all cloned from...Christopher Lambert!!
-
and Carla Gugino.
-
I'm not sure what I was expecting, but this is a bit more sword-and-sorcery than I had thought. But then, I don't really know much of anything about Solomon Kane.
-
This looks fucking great, very REH. And Purefoy as Kane is the best fucking genre casting I've seen in years. Perfect.
I still hate what they've done to Kane's origin and motivation, but I might be willing to let that slide if the film lives up to the promise of that trailer.
Now let's see them find an actor to fit the Conan role as well as Purefoy fits Solomon Kane. Yeah, right... -
...the "Van Helsing 2" talkbackers fail at life, literature and movies.
-
Well said!
-
Pete Postlethwaite knows russian.
-
1. Dash of The Crow
2. Smidge of Outlaw Hosie Vales
3. Tea spoon of Spawn
4. 1/3 cup of Conan The Barbarian
5. 2 shakes of Lord of the Rings
6. a pinch of Underworld
7. and a heaping helping of Van Helsing.
Trailer wasn't as bad as thought it was gonna be. Of course...thats without the dialog...which may prove to be its ultimate undoing. I'll withhold judgement until it speaka da english. -
This movie is going to be terrible. How it got into Hall H I'll never know. Quint talked it up a ton and I was really excited to see a sword and sorcery movie done right, but man the footage was terrible.
-
where you'll never need sunscreen.
-
That's how it looks from that trailer and how the lay-moron will see it.
I'm already sold. -

This doesn't look terribly promising. In the original stories Kane is more gaunt, grim, and dour -- almost a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Severus Snape. Plus most of his adventures take place in Africa, fighting Ancient Evils in Crumbling Lost Cities. I can't see anything distinctive to the original in this trailer; it does look all too much like Van Helsing. Why go to all the trouble to get rights to the source material and then ignore the source material?Check out the beautiful artwork using the "Look Inside" feature on the book's Amazon page: http://tinyurl.com/r25x3z
That's what this movie should look like. -
Or does Merrick REALLY need spellcheck?
-
..sounds like its being played backwards..

..sounds like its being played backwards

Ya know, we live in a time when studio sfx teams can create entirely realistic worlds in CGI and yet they still insist on using the most fake-ass faux snow possible. Geezus... even the LOTR trilogy used crap-ass soap flakes fluttering around... what's up with that?
-
Swordplay? Check. Mayhem? Looks like it. Well okay then. Besides, it can't be anywhere near as shit-headed and odious as VAN HELSING. That one lost me when he whipped out the machine-gun crossbow and couldn't hit a cow on the tit with a tin cup. Sorry, Hugh, but I require a degree of accuracy from my heroes.
-
And my missus LOVES the leading man , so we'll go see it regardless.
It does smack of Van Helsing though.
Needs more monsters methinks.
I see Pete Potato-head is in it. He's a pretty damn good actor but always shows up drunk for promo interviews :-) -
Van Halen
Van Helsing
Coincidence? Not, I suspect, to the knuckledraggers... -
That's by Gary Gianni, who did some nice (in my opinion) work for some Shadow comic books.
-
Anyone making these comparisons to Van Helsing is a useless fartknocker.... Vampire Hunter D and Van Helsing completely ape Solomon Kane, not the other way aruond. And even in Russian it is obvious that the tone of this film does not even remotely resemble Van Helsing (or VINO, van helsing in name only). This movie looks pretty good... Even though it doesn't seem to be a direct adaptation of a Kane story it seems to be in that style and very true to them. James Purefoy is an awesome actor who could save this movie even if it was otherwise crap, which it doesn't look like it will be. I have a feeling people will be surprised by this.
-
Seriously, I wouldn't lie to you. I've seen this cheap ass piece of shit. IT IS TERRIBLE. It's not SyFy worthy. Hell it's not even Lifetime worthy. The acting, writing, and directing are lazy, amateurish, and undeserving of both the source material and your praise/dollars. Some of you will not believe me. You will have to witness the travesty with your own eyes. So to that I say his brother does not die at the beginning. His brother is the Villain. Also I've seen better FX on a Mac Book. And you'll swear it was written and directed by Uwe Boll once you've seen it. Enjoy!
-
gone , gone, gone , gone ....
-
Not biased of course.
-
come on correct the headline. Seriously, we can't check a single sentence before we post it?
-
has no clue what they're talking about yet. You're judging this based on a trailer that isn't even in English. This is 80s style sword and sorcery. It's NOT Van Helsing at all. The swordplay is brutal and the action scenes are shot old school style, with the camera pulled back and lingering, so you can actually see what's happening. It's not A.D.D. Bourne style editing that is all the rage now. And to those of you saying Solomon belongs in Africa, the director indicated the next film will take place there. This is basically a setup for Solomon's character.
-
The scenes at comic-con, which featured special effects, drew resounding cheers from the audience. No Uwe Boll film will ever do that. The effects, especially the mirror wraiths, were top notch. The cinematography is worlds above anything on SyFy. Your claim is laughable.
-
I dunno, when I watched Name of the king on Blu ray, the first 5 minutes looked pretty spectacular, that whole elven Valley money shot and the close up of Ray Liotta snogging Leelee Sobleski with his face turning translucent was pretty good.
Granted the rest of the movie was 500 yards of mind rape... -
The spelling and grammar has gotten progressively worse on this site. If you guys need a spellchecker then hire me!
