Ain't It Cool News (

Herc Has Seen Tuesday’s Return Of SONS OF ANARCHY And Says A Tune-Up Leaves The Series Running Cooler For Season 2!!

I am – Hercules!! Let us throw a little love now at FX’s “Sons of Anarchy,” which returns much improved from the season-one episodes I caught. The show gets a big jolt tonight from the arrival of Adam Arkin and Henry Rollins as a pair of white-supremacist leaders bent on making the titular biker gang halt its arms sales to the local blacks and Latinos. I’m also pleased to report that “Mad Men” vet Maggie Siff and “Tell Me You Love Me” refugee Ally Walker are both still in the picture (though, sadly, “Jericho”/”24” vet Sprague Grayden did not make the transition to season two). I was so keyed up late last night about where the show is taking Katey Sagal’s character I found myself rummaging around my messy office for nearly 15 minutes trying to track down episodes two through five. If you didn’t care for “Anarchy” last year? My suggestion is give tonight’s season-two premiere a shot. I already like it better than what I’ve seen of looming 10 p.m. competitors “The Good Wife” and “The Forgotten” (and I don’t have the highest hopes for “The Jay Leno Show”). FX was even good enough to move “Anarchy” to Tuesdays so it doesn’t conflict with “South Park” or “The Road Rules/Real World Challenge.” 10 p.m. Tuesday. FX.

So will you give Its Always Sunny a shout out

    by skimn

when it premieres next week? ...doubt it...

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 3:48 p.m. CST

    nothing to write home about

    by Mazzle

It was a decently produced show, but most of the characters are just so damn unlikeable. Most of them are racist, misogynistic POS, and one of them is even a necrophiliac. Hell, the season finale involved them killing a mother of two accidentally while trying to kill one of their own members.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 3:55 p.m. CST

    Is the acting better?

    by GravitysRainbow

I love Ron Perlman, but God, there was some cringe worthy stuff with him and Segal last season. And I love Hunnam, but I hope he got the accent together (like a certain detective trying to pull of a Baltimore accent..) It'll be interesting to see what Otto is up to this season.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:10 p.m. CST

    Bravo FX

    by igregory

One of my favorite networks. This and It's Always Sunny are 2 of the few shows I'm looking forward to this year. Sunny is the funniest thing going IMHO.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:13 p.m. CST

    I'll give it a shot.

    by nopix

I didn't catch all of the the first season, but what I saw was pretty good. I liked the season finale. One scene I couldn't get over was when they took a blow torch to that guys bare back in order to burn off his tattoo. I'm the last guy to get all squirmy, but that scene made me nauseous.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:16 p.m. CST

    Oh yeah, and...

    by nopix

Even Denis Leary gave us a blow torch to the leg this past season on Rescue Me. Not as gruesome as on Sons of Anarchy, but FX has a fetish for burnt flesh.

    by MacReady452

To see Rollins on the show. I thought last season was a great intro into a seedy world ripe for immoral delights. Just wanna see Jax go to work with that fucking knife on his belt. Needs better bikes though;p

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:48 p.m. CST

    cant wait

    by Uncle_Pooch

    Perlman and Arkin and Rollins

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:51 p.m. CST

Fuck y'all Kim Coates best part of the show.

    by EvilWizardGlick

Who ever writes his character has given him the most outlandish attitude. Jesus he talked about fucking corpses.
Necrophelia is so 21st century.
Plus the man can act. He is a male Lili Taylor. Talented but unrecognized.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:56 p.m. CST

Katey Sagal is best part of the show.

    by Ash0k

Dang, I wish Katee Sackhoff was in this too. She would be a perfect fit with the biker culture and all.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 4:58 p.m. CST

    Ash0k, watche Katee on Nip/Tuck

    by EvilWizardGlick

She even rides a bike. Big ol hog rumbling tween her legs.
Vroom, vroom, vroom.

I love SOA. Great show and a lot of fun.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 6:56 p.m. CST

I love SOA,but I also loved The Riches

    by liljuniorbrown

I'm trying not to get to attached. The guy that plays Jax reminds me of Heath Ledger for some reason, but anything that add's Henry Rollins to the cast has got my vote.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 6:56 p.m. CST

The only way they could go is better

    by Xiphos_2

Well I guess SoA could've gotten worse but then it would be dwelling in the same zip code as Fringe and nothing sucks as bad as Fringe.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 7:27 p.m. CST

"didn't care"? I've never heard of it

    by punto

how many episodes per season? Now I'm curious about it, but I don't feel like catching up on 22 episodes..

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 7:36 p.m. CST

No shit Sprague Grayden won't make the transition.

    by Shermdawg

Did you even catch the last few episodes of season one Herc? Shit got real. Shit got good. Can't wait 'til Opie finds out.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 8:36 p.m. CST

    Fringe is okay

    by Ash0k

Not great, not bad. But c'mon, that Tower shot was great.

  • Sept. 8, 2009, 9:56 p.m. CST

Everyone is the best part of the show.

    by dailysportspages

Thats how good SoA is. Its hard to pick out the best character.

    by lsleelee

I hope that part was a joke.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, midnight CST

    Ash0k, tower shot sucked

    by lsleelee

Because anyone who finished middle school new halfway through the season that they were dealing with alternate dimensions and yet that tower shot had to be there to make sure people understood it. And I'm sure there were people who didn't get it even then. This depresses me.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 12:45 a.m. CST

    FX, lowlife scumbag channel

    by thevision

Seems like the network celebrates the adventures of the lowlife- The Shield, Dirty, Riches, Nip/Tuck and their latest gem Sons of Anarchy.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 1:36 a.m. CST

After Supernatural SOA is the best show on tv

    by Toby_FN_Wong

I am surprised you even mentioned Sons Of Anarchy, Herc, seeing as there is no jailbait in that show. For all the people not knowing SOA: Give it a shot. It's much better than you might think. And in SOA season 1 Ally Walker played one of the nastiest bitches you will ever see in a tv show. And Katey Segal is definitely not Peggy Bundy in SOA if that's stopping you from watching it.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 6:09 a.m. CST

Not a big fan of the sorta reboot

    by shutupfanboy

I rewatches season one before last night and no sure where these bad episodes were. I thought this was one of the weaker attempts considering where they left us last season with Jax seemingly ready to start the civil war. Now, we are stuck back fighting the Aryans like we were in the first part of season one. Gemma's rape was pretty startling, but I get the feeling they don't want to do the civil war just yet. I get the felling they are stalling until for a third season. I do like the new casting decision, Arkin is corporate smiley and Rollins' deranged look is just awesome. Even with all these problems, its still the best show on TV.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 6:47 a.m. CST

    A badass Peg Bundy...

    by cheyne_stoking_DMS

Man, I should start watching this show. What da fuck else am I going to watch? 'Melrose Place'?

    by TheWaqman

and Charlie Hunham is such a shite actor. I think I'll stick with Sunny from FX, that's all.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 11:41 a.m. CST

Who wouldv'e think that Rollins would play a Skinhead

    by Stalkeye

or that he could act?Nice guy in person as i had the the opportunity to meet him during some album signing back then.I'm looking forward to checking this out.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 12:42 p.m. CST

A decent opener-expecting better as the season progresses

    by Irievibes82

Great to see Ally Walker back. Charlie Hunnam is on it as an actor- kid's english and pulls off the central valley effect perfectly-easily one of the top ten performances on tv by an actor. As for this episode I thought it was kinda weak but considering the EPIC war that the white supremacists have just ignited I'm satisfied. I didn't like Ally Walker's "sweet" attitude at the end- I hope she's up to something. Hale's arc looks like it might be good this season-liked how they kept him in character to stand up to the Nazi's in principle. Henry Rollins is awesome-do bad he's gonna die in a very painful and horrific manner.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 1:04 p.m. CST

very few shows catch my attention

    by THEoverfiend

never got the whole seindfeld thing, hereos is kinda meh, never got into lost. so you see where i'm coming from. but man, i dig the hell outts this show. one of the very few i'll make sure it on the dvr. everything in it is great. a few lil flaws like Jax wearing baggy pants an tennis shoes are easily looked over when the acting and storylines blow you away

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 1:45 p.m. CST

    by Logan_1973

Best show on television right now.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 1:56 p.m. CST

    Gangland on History Channel

    by thevision

They've profiled Biker Gangs on Gangland like the Hells Angels, Mongols, Outlaws, Pagans, Sons of Silence, Warlocks and the Breed. So the characters being sociopath scumbags is realistic. The whole war with the White Separtists thing looks too gimicky, just a way to make the SOA seem more simpathetic instead of a war with blacks or latinos. Real Biker Gangs are affiliated with Nazi/Skinhead/Aryan groups mainly because of their Prison Gang connections and no swatiska or SS symbol tats on the SOA?! The main reason Mongols formed was Hell's Angels didn't accept Latinos and Mongols are mainly a Latino Biker gang. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out one of the main guys is really undercover cop or ATF agent- look for the guy who doesn't kill.

    Katey Sagal

    by Series7

Does own this show, she'll get a emmey nod next year. Pearlman is just mugging at the camera, and Heath Ledger 2 looks to be shapping up nicely.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 4:15 p.m. CST

Also it was good to see Henry Rollins

    by Series7

Finally fit the role he is playing. I think thats the best I've ever seen him....oh well who am I kidding he'll never top his performence in Johnny Newmonic.

  • Sept. 9, 2009, 7:40 p.m. CST

    This show fucking rules!

    by Andy_Dufresne

Hunnam is perfect in this role...much better as a badass with a f'ed up moral compass than as a pretty boy. Katey Segal is perfect. Kim Coates is an awesome sociopath and the addition of Henry Rollins just makes me fucking giggle with delight. This season will be must see TV and SOA is probably my fave show right now. I agree that we need more from Perlman though. He does just constantly mug for the camera... and Opie is gonna have a fun story arc this season as well. You gotta love Bobby Elvis and I even kind of dig the dipshit prospect that used to be on MTV's Undressed. Can't wait till next Tuesday night!

    Great great ep

    by Toby_FN_Wong

Katey Segal was badass as always. Perlman always makes me laugh with his mutt mug. Hunnam gets better and better. And Henry Rollins finally has a role he can be proud of.

    by megatom5

Damn that last scene fucking ripped my face off, haven't seen something that hard on TV since Aceveda got raped on the shield. And Henry Rollings as a rapist neonazi is nuts. He looked like he was about to rape/kill everything in each scene, that guy is so fucking intense.

  • Sept. 11, 2009, 1:49 p.m. CST

    I'm pretty sure

    by Series7

It was the role Rollins was born to play.
Its good to see something good came out of that abortion of a film from James Bond's first born.
