HBO Greenlights Sitcom Pilot ENLIGHTENED, From FREAKS AND GEEKS And SCHOOL OF ROCK Writer-Actor Mike White!!

I am – Hercules!!

Mike White – the “Freaks And Geeks” writer-producer-actor who went on to a big-screen career scripting “Chuck & Buck,” “Orange County,” “The Good Girl” and “The School of Rock” – is returning to TV for HBO’s sitcom pilot “Enlightened.”

The premise reminds of White’s brilliant feature directorial debut, 2007’s “Year of the Dog.” The HBO project is about a woman who troubles those around her when she undergoes a spiritual awakening.

The project reteams White with “Year of the Dog” star Laura Dern.

White is known to fans of unscripted fare for competing alongside his dad on CBS’ “Amazing Race” last season.

HBO has plenty of liquid assets thanks to True Blood DVDs...

    by jackbauerjackbauer

But they make good TV, and this sounds like another solid show.

    @new HBO shows

    by ev1ldead

Don't forget that not all the shows kenny38606 mentioned have a series order(Thrones) some doesn't even have the greenlight for a pilot (Cocaine Cowboys and I think Shameless is dead) and some of the old shows might not come back in 2010 (Curb, Conchords, Tim). On the other hand...In Treatment isn't officialy dead and there are other HBO shows in develeopment that might get fast tracked like Wonderful Maladys, Washingtonienne, Body Politic, Humanitas or The World Inside and I don't know what's the status with Americatown, American Tabloid, Fat Sells, Charlotte Simmons, Jeannie tate Show, Middlesex, Modern Love, The Review, Everybody hurts, Random Family, Scar Tissue, the Ellen Barkin series or the Maria Bello series. *lol* As long as Boardwalk Empire airs early 2010 and Thrones get's picked up and airs sometimes in 2010 HBO is back on track.

    Year of the Dog

    by hobocode

This HBO project sounds promising but I have to agree that Year of the Dog was and oddball of a movie that didn't know what it wanted to be. I felt like I wanted to laugh becasue of the breezy tone of the film but nearly every moment made me want to slit my wrists or punch someone in the face. Poorly directed film.

    by boe

imo - it doesn't matter if you hated chuck and buck or year of the dog or school or rock or (the underrated) the good girl. his movies and performances stick with you and he does everything - write, act, produce, direct. Really cool, low key guy.

Agreed - "The HBO project is about a woman who troubles those around her when she undergoes a spiritual awakening." is like saying "A show about what happens when things happen." There must be more information about this show than that. If not, wait until you have some actual information before wasting our time.

makes me fear for Game of Thrones. That might not make it to series, if all these cheap shows keep coming to HBO. Also Boardwalk Empire sounds good too...so far.

I hope he does write it and appear in it with Sarah Silverman again. I once had a dream I was fucking her (as her character from School of Rock) from behind and he was watching (as his character from SoR). What...am I???

    Pillow Biter

    by dancetothebeatofthelivingdead

Isn't Mike White the pillow biter that was in the Amazing race with his dad? He's to blame for that fucking rancid, painful to watch gem, Year Of The Dog? Well fuck him! He should be writing Hallmark cards after that disaster. I'll be sure to avoid this like a Taiwanese hooker with an open sore.

    Deadwood, my God...

    by boxcutter

How beautiful was the writing on that show? And why oh why did they/Milch scratch and tease our taint with their lacquered nails, promising the 2 movie send off? Bastards. They gave him the greenlight for JFC (Ok, but a disappointing wank, basically), couldn't he have just done the decent thing and given us the climax? Mike White: nice bloke, minor talent, Year of the Dog meh.

LoL you're right on that score. Can't stand True Blood but if that wimpy Vampire crap bankrolls great television like Scorcese's new project, Entourage, and this new copy then bring the wimpy Vamps on. Hell let's get a twilight show while we're at it too-maybe they'll actually give Macfarlane a budget for Spawn this time.

Mike White also Brought Us 'Craking Up'

    by angrysnowmonkey

He was ExecPro on 'Cracking Up' and took a good premise and cast and went absolutely nowhere. Almost unwatchable at times. This may work, but I think a throttling back of expectations is in order here.
