ScoreKeeper Invites You On Board The RUNAWAY TRAIN...If You're Lucky You'll Live AND Win The Soundtrack CD!

Published at:  Aug 27, 2009 11:22:37 PM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here about to enact something wholly unthinkable. The mere suggestion of such a reprehensible idea is ripping the space-time continuum at its seams. Am I insane? Yes…but because of this? Yes.

OK, maybe I’m blowing things a bit out of proportion. I’m just hoping you appreciate the fact I’m going to conduct two CD soundtrack giveaways at the same time! I’ve got such a pile of discs here to giveaway that I’m going to overlap these a bit. My pain is your gain.

Hopefully by now you’ve emailed me your submission for the autographed CAPRICA (2009) soundtrack and two-disc BATTLESTAR GALACITICA: SEASON 4 (2004-2009) soundtrack CDs courtesy of La-La Land Records. If not, you have until Monday night to do so.

If that wasn’t enough, those crazy fools at La-La Land want to give away even more soundtracks to the Ain’t It Cool readership.

So what’s up next?

I have in my possession five brand new, factory-sealed copies of Trevor Jones’ previously unreleased score for RUNAWAY TRAIN (1985) directed by Andrei Konchalovsky. The film stars Jon Voight, Eric Roberts, and Rebecca De Mornay as three hapless stowaways on a full-throttle freight train with nobody at the helm.

The score is unique even for the 1980s. It’s a straight-up, funky, synthesized delight sporting a glorious rendition of Antonio Vivaldi’s GLORIA IN D MAJOR as its finale. This particular CD presents both the original LP and the complete score as it was used in the film.

So how do you get on board the RUNAWAY TRAIN?

Email me at scorekeeper@aintitcool.com using the subject: SLAP YOUR FAT DIESEL and include your full name, mailing address, a valid email address, and your favorite 80s synth score.

The deadline will be Thursday, September 3rd, at 11:59PM EST. Only one entry per person please. International entries will be accepted. Duplicates will be discarded.

For more information including audio samples and order placement please visit La-La Land Records

One of the most underrrated films of the 80s

    by straighttohell

Hard to believe that this is not on any of the top films of the 80s lists. This is probably Knochalovsky's strongest, most intense work to date. It has arguably, the most unbelievable performances of Voight and Roberts' careers (and that is saying something for these two masters) and it has some of the most unbelievable action and nature sequences ever filmed. Voight's speech inside the train, about how you have to suck it all up and take it in the real world (“Oh, you missed a spot here!”), is an astonishing bit of acting that still gives me Goosebumps. His eyes in that scene are frightening. That is not Voight talking, but a real convict. This movie should really be more appreciated than it currently is. And the ending is pure Kurosawa.
