Will GREEN LANTERN be victim of the the ever weakening dollar?

Published at:  Aug 26, 2009 10:46:12 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a pair of stories regarding GREEN LANTERN and the Australian media. On foreign productions we're often dependent upon our colleagues overseas to do a good job in reporting film related news. But, as always, you must consider the source. Early today I received a link to this story about economic woes with GREEN LANTERN due to the strong Aussie Greenback, of course it also mentioned for a short time that James Cameron was directing (that was corrected to Martin Campbell, who really is directing). But that one blemish in the fact checking doesn't get in the way of the fact that GREEN LANTERN may be facing problems with green.

The more serious factor mentioned in the article is the scriptwork to secure the financing. I love GREEN LANTERN as a comic character and as a potential movie character. This is a very big science fiction version of GREEN LANTERN - including the Green Lantern Corps storyline. I've heard there has been some concern regarding some of the more comical aspects of the odd Green Lantern Corps characters - and just how alien they can be. PERSONALLY, I feel they have to 100% embrace and go with the crazyness of the Green Lantern Corps... This isn't IRON MAN or BATMAN where dialing the comic book in, to make everything Ultra-Realistic is necessary. This is GREEN LANTERN, and while he may exist in the same universe as BATMAN, he exists in a MUCH LARGER Universe. In fact he exists upon a Multi-verse of incredibly possibilities.

And that is what MAKES him and the Corps so amazing. That you can let your imagination go. What has to be serious or dark is the THREAT. That the Threat create concern and tension amongst all these strange entities. DISTRICT 9 clearly shows that audiences crave and can sympathize with all manners of disgusting, odd or inhuman things. Now with this film truly go for it.

Hopefully that's what they're doing with the script. I have a lot of hope for this film, even though Martin Campbell has never proven himself with this type of material... I think we'll see GREEN LANTERN move forward - unless there really is a Ryan Reynolds/Superhero curse that just won't allow him to be a hero. In which case... they're fucked.

The real question is will this film shoot in Australia or pick up and go elsewhere? Warners knows full well the potential value these films have and a great GREEN LANTERN movie can be something that expands the realm of Superhero film possibilities. Ultimately, they'd probably get better value for their money by shooting in Ireland - where the benefits being offered to studios are greater than in Australia - and ultimately... shooting GREEN LANTERN on the Emerald Isle is just way cooler... personally. Who knows. The coming weeks will spell out what happens with GREEN LANTERN - it has had a bit of script trouble, now some money issues. I'm a cautious optimist about this project though, and I'm hoping for the best.

And for that, I hope this movie is a false start and goes with a better and more formidable lead. Ryan Reynolds just rehashes his character from Blade: Trinity over and over again. And the shtick is LONG past entertaining.

    My 2 cents worth

    by tolomey

Ok, so although Campbell proves time and time again that he is a great director of Bond movies, I'm not sold on the idea of him directing a sci-fi epic.
I'm new to the character of GL but I recently watched First Flight and although it is rushed in places and flawed in others, I really dig the universe that it created. A universe full of bizarre technology and strange looking aliens.
So, who do I think should direct? Well, Del Toro would be my number one choice but he is kinda busy so how's about giving a certain Mr Paul Verhoeven a call? The guy has a track record of great sci-fi under his belt and his slate is looking pretty clean as of late. He is sadly off the A list of directors now so his fee aint gonna break the bank either.
Trust me Marvel, Verhoeven needs a come back picture and you need a director with some balls. You know it makes sense.

But after watching Black Book, I think that Verhoeven is trying to change his image somewhat.
Not everything that he makes is overtly sexual and from watching and reading interviews with the guy he seems like he has a keen sense of fun. Something which Campbell seems to be lacking.
But hey, I could be wrong, I have been before, I actually thought that Oscar winning director Gavin Hood would make a good Wolverine movie.

Australian film needs to get their shit together.

    by outlawsdelejos

We're losing so many quality productions because of lame filming incentives. Justice League hit the scrap heap because George Miller wouldn't move the production to Vancouver, honorably enough he wouldn't do it because he's trying to help the film economy here but the industry wouldn't help him back. It's sad but deserved, if the AFFC would stop handing coin out to horrible comedies and arthouse cockshit productions and reinvested that money into incentives people would actually film here. Last figure I heard was that they'd lost over $20mil in investments over 8 years, considering their average input is less than a million dollars per film thats a hideous record.

Open Letter To Warner Bros: Green Lantern Is Star Wars

    by media messiah

"Green Lantern" appears to be very much based upon "Lensmen" (a literary science fiction legend)...and the Jedi Knights of "Star Wars", just like the Green Lantern Corps, appear to all be based upon Lensmen (or Lensman). To nail Green Lantern accurately, you must embrace the context of how the aliens appear, their vast numbers, and their universe--which is akin to Star Wars, and its rules, as I previously said--due to their shared inspiration (again, Lensmen). On that note, I would urge you to take a look at "The Last Starfighter" which is also somewhat inspired by both Star Wars and Green Lantern. Like Star Wars, the Last Starfighter does not stray away from the concept of a universe full of infinite and strange looking alien species, but was clever enough, however, to do it in an economical manner. It is all in the script, the method to accomplishing this feat, and in the written word, therein. If it is clever, it can be economical, by simply saving the full expanse of the Green Lantern Corps, and its capabilties, until the climax of the film, when all of the bells and whistles can be shown to the audience.I hope you consider this in your budgeting of the film. So many filmmakers spend unnecessarily...without smartly planning a film, but one of the most brilliantly planned films of all time is Star Wars, which saved the big fireworks for the final 20 minutes of the movie--somethng for you to think about!!!Thanks for listening.--MM

Audience aren't ready for more fantastic

    by comedian_x

story lines (like GL) and they prove that again and again. The Dark Knight succeeded because it was more crime movie then comic book; Iron Man succeeded because it was about military tech; Watchmen which played up the fantasy and suffered the consequences. People said the same thing about Star Wars when it came out: "that people would be more open to Sci-Fiction and fantasy" all that happened is that filmmakers made a lot movies that Geeks enjoyed but failed at the box office. Again, I would love all these movies, but mainstream audiences aren't ready for the expanded DC universe and never will be.

had very humanoid characters for the majority of the movie (orcs, Gollum not with standing); Star Trek did as well. The only "alien" in Star Trek is Eric Bana with some make-up on his forehead. People said the same things in the eighties and all you got was a bunch of Geek movies that failed. Name the most successful sci-fi of the eighties and you will get Back to Future, and Batman -- the rest failed. History seems to repeat itself.

That included the success of Nolan's Batman, the shared universe idea, casting, the script, the strike etc. It was ready to be filmed here in Sydney until the strike and then the change of strategy by WB/DC re: its superhero movies. It wasn't just because Miller wanted to get that tax offset by trying to have it be classified as an Australian production (which is what I was referring to.)

    Called It Months Ago

    by thusspakespymunk

Remember when I predicted Hollywood would have nothing to do with this project? When I said this would go the same way as the aborted JUSTICE LEAGUE movie and everything else DC touches? What. Do. You. Know? The reason for the prediction - and the reality - is simple. You have to remember that Hollywood has nothing but utter contempt for any comic book or genre character. They HATE them. They HATE the fans (that means they hate you, too). These executive fucks don't care about anything except money. If you can present a comic book idea to them in the context of money and how to make it, you're gold. "It's a story about REVENGE, and a guy who fights a TERRRRRORIST!" (Dark Kmight) or "It's about a guy who builds weapons for evil corporations, and then FIGHTS THEM with his weapons!" (Iron Man). If either of those movies had been sold as "It's the story of a comic boo-" that's as far as the guy selling would've gotten before he'd been shown the door - except maybe for marketing. "We already know kids love this stuff!" And selling toys is a good way to make back money. "We can market it!" The trouble with GREEN LANTERN is that he is UNMISTAKABLY a comic book. He's the very epitome of being a comic book, and as a result that means he's going to be despised by the people who make movies.

Besides Star Trek (and were they really THAT popular?) none of those films were exclusively sci-fi/fantasy. Ghostbusters was a comedy first and foremost, Gremlins was a family movie, Terminator and Aliens were action movies first, sci-fi second. The reaction against Avatar is evidence enough that a decent chunk of the audience can't handle straight up sci-fi/fantasy. They need something to dilute it - comedy, big explosions, a human cast.

    by thusspakespymunk

I have ZERO faith in audiences, and in producers. Remember the famous story about the making of the movie PHONE BOOTH which, when presented to a producer, got the reply "I _LOVE_ IT! SO ... how soon can you rewrite it to get him out of the phonebooth?" To me, that's deserving of one of those cigar-cutter guillotines to the balls. Prevent the guy from ever breeding. Anyway, American audiences have absolutely no imagintion whatsoever any more - it's totally gone. I don't just mean that it's suppressed. I mean it's flat out gone. I honestly think that if you put 10 average Americans into a room and told them to come up with a creative story, the result would be whatever was on NASCAR last week. I mean this. This isn't hyperbole. I honestly think that all 10 would simply sit and drool and "think" - or, rather, TRY to "think," and would say "Uh ... what about ... uh ... a ... a ... a car? That ... uh ... goes ... around ... uh ... MAN, _I don't know!_" That's honestly my view on humanity right now in the USA.

Please - American audiences are too DIM to know a story. They can sort of sense emotions, though not quite feel them themselves, outright, a lot like Man-Thing. If you were to make the average US moviegoer into a superhero, the tagline would read WHOSOEVER KNOWS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS PRETTY MUCH EXACTLY LIKE ... THE DIP-SHIT.

Two AMAZING R rated genre pictures have dominated the box office and hte word of mouth seems to keep spreading for both of them. Inglourious Basterds and District 9 have saved the summer. Both are minor masterpieces with LARGE heady themes and both connected with audiences. It warms my black heart. I don't think Warner Bros. understands what they have in "Green Lantern"--they just don't get it, it would appear, and no one at DC Comics has apparently enlightened them??? I sought to explain the property to them, as the press report seems to suggest, at least, to me, that the studio is confused as to just what direction to go with, in respect to the character, and his back-story...and are wholly unaware of the grand epic scope of the story, and how it is meant to translate on-screen. All they have to do is set their collective minds on making their own version of "Star Wars", in feel (a cross between science fiction and fantasy space opera)...and they will more than successfully capture the essence of "Green Lantern".

I do find it interesting though that the DC universe feels so different than the Marvel universe. Each have their pros and cons, but I always found that Marvel characters were much more relatable, they felt more like real people, and their universe felt like our Earth. The DC 'Earth' never really felt like it's our Earth, it always felt slightly alien with it's non-existant cities and locales...in that respect I wish they'd followed Marvel's footsteps in primarily basing their world in real cities and locales.

    Shoot in Ireland?

    by vadakinx

I'm from Ireland. Being a film student, having a massive production come here could be of massive benefit to me (I actually wrote an outline for a GL trilogy a while back but that's beside the point).

But while it would be a great boost to the failing economy and while it would be of great benefit to me personally, Ireland is the wrong place to shoot Green Lantern.

When Singer shot Superman Returns in Sydney, he could scout locations around the city to double for Metropolis. The style of cities in Ireland is very different to what you have in America. We don't have skyscrapers etc.

There is nowhere in Ireland to double for Coast City.

Also, we get a lot of rain here, so natural lighting wouldn't be feasible. We get sunny days between June and August but they're sporadic.

So while I would love to see GL shoot here, Ireland just doesn't have the right conditions.

If you want to complain about someone, blame the conservative whiner who started it (and no, I didn't mean Bush, but he sucked ass too). On topic, I like Reynolds (in small doses), but he's not right for GL and it's probably going to suck anyway. I certainly think there are parts of Ireland, especially in the west, that could double for alien worlds. But while shooting the Normandy Landings or Braveheart works quite well, we don't have a Coast City equivalent, we don't have the weather and frankly we probably don't have the facilities or expertise.

Ireland Link = Crack Smokers Rumour

    by subfreq

Ireland's Film board is about to be dissolved and moved into a different government agency. All indigenous production companies have put future slates on hold until 2010 because they don't even know what Tax incentives if any will survive this years budget reshuffle in December.

In case you don't know Ireland is in economic free fall and no major production has come here for years due to the high costs of shooting. Goods and services here simply are not competitively priced. If you are leaving OZ because of a strong dollar there what sense is there to loose even more money on a way stronger Euro?

Lastly we have one studio in the country. Currently The Tudors are on it's only serious stage which is even too small for a Hollywood production and they don't strike the Tudors set because they have another production 'Camelot' slated for Spring next year.

Yellow No Longer A Weakness For The GLs

    by laserpants

Let me adjust my nerdhat. Apparently, the weakness to yellow was due to an impurity in the green power battery. This impurity was this crazy monster thingee called Parallax. Parallax, at one point, possessed Hal Jordan who in turn killed all the Lanterns and blew up the power battery. Then, though some magical hoobajoo, the GLs managed to be reborn (deaths and resurrections being no big deal in the world of superhero comics) kill Parallax, thereby removing the Yellow Impurity which made the GLs susceptible to yellow. Long story short: if you peed on a Green Lantern, and your pee was so yellow it looked like a melted crayola crayon, he or she wouldn't be weakened in the slightest, and he or she would most like either kill you, or beat you so bad you'll wish he had.

GL and GL Corps are VERY popular right now. Probably the most popular of the current mainstream comix (due in no small part to Johns' and Tomasi's fantastic writing). The only reason I want to see this movie happen is because I HATE Van Wilder and I don't trust Whoreywood not to royally fuck this up and either go "realistic" (aka everyone wears black leather) or too cornball / slapstick. I think GL may very well be a project left to the pages, not the screen.

I mean I love 3 month-old film reviews as much as the next guy, but here's some actual fucking Aussie news. What's he doing?
Anyway, I think WB is making a bigger stink then is necessary. This may be the studio's way of pushing for better tax treatment in Oz. AUSTRALIA (the movie) had about $52 million (USD) in tax credits given to it by Australia (the nation). That basically amounted to almost 1/3 it's production budget. If GL is budgeted at $150 million, eggads they stand to lose a lot of tax benefits if they move elsewhere. But I'm no expert on this subject... Lauturo however would probably have more to say... if he wasn't busy writing his review of WATCHMEN.

Shooting In Ireland Re Subfreq and Vadakin X,s comments

    by dcireland

Speaking as a film professional, Ive worked as a camera assistant in Ireland for over 15 years I find your comments re shooting in ireland to be both factually inaccurate and disheartening. Firstly the Film Board is not going to be dissolved in December, that is a possible recommendation by a committee and is very unlikely to happen. irelands tax breaks for filmmakers under section 481 are guaranteed for another three years no matter what. Even if the Film Board were dissolved its operations would be taken up by Enterprise Ireland. Secondly as regards a lack of expertise in relation to big budget SFX movies being made here, perhaps you guys are unaware that Reign Of Fire was filmed here or that extensive FX work has been used in films from Count Of Monte Cristo to King Arthur. Also Ireland has a hugely experienced level of crew in all departments who are hard at work again this year thanks to Hollywood studio movies such as Leap Year and Your Highness and Tv projects such as The Tudors and A Game Of Thrones. To say that Ardmore studios has only one useful stage is the talk of a muppet who has no film experience. Also Camelot will not be shooting at Ardmore but at a brand new facility in Wicklow.

Coast City doesnt need to be real - it can be built entirely in CG. For ground level live action shooting Dublin has doubled for New York, Chicago, London and Manchester in recent productions here. As for weather conditions anyone familiar with actual film production knows that shooting takes place rain or shine and there is a little thing called weather cover which on a large studio based shoot is pretty easy to schedule.

Personally I would love to see a superhero movie come here and shoot - it would be a great thing for the industry here and a really cool movie to work on. Ireland is more than capable of resourcing a production of this scale.

    Laserpants: Deadpool

    by deathpool

Well I might be biased a *bit*, but I can't disagree more. There's no other character quite like Deadpool, and to see him rocket up from relative obscurity to his newfound popularity has been awesome. I mean, the dude has two monthly titles out now, and pretty soon it'll be three. Few characters get that many titles to themselves (well, one is a team-up book deal, but still). Even if he did suck, Deadpool #11 of the first ongoing would still make it all worthwhile, just for that one issue.

    DCIRELAND

    by subfreq

Two of the productions you mention are not being filmed in Ireland and one of the other ones didn't use Ardmore so I'm not sure what you're talking about.

Ireland does have some good crew but in reality it's a very small pool of people compared to other European countries. Compare what you get for value for money in terms of wages and union pressure compared to filming in Eastern Europe and you can see why the major SFX films are going to Hungary and Poland where they now have equally experienced crews for a fraction of the price.

I can see I have offended the fact you work on the floor of films and are defending probably the great people who do work in the industry in Ireland but the fact is in purely economic and logistical terms it makes no sense. Harry would have been talking about Northern Ireland not the Republic where they have better incentives and a slate of movies coming in from Walden Media and other companies.

Although tax breaks are signed as I am sure you are well aware this December all bets are off and without doubt the Film Board will be moved into the Enterprise Board. In the long term a great move for the country but until everything is set up how could you expect a company to come in with tens of millions with so much uncertainty?

    by gregc

I disagree that audiences can't handle anything as fantastic or comic-booky as GREEN LANTERN.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN? HARRY POTTER? TRANSFORMERS?

If modern audiences can make hits out of ghost pirates, magical British schoolboys, and giant alien robots that turn into cars, I think they can handle alien space cops with magic rings!

    by dcireland

Perhaps your unaware of this but even though Your Highness and Game Of Thrones are filming in Northern Ireland they are extensively using crew from the South. Leap Year was also extensively filmed at Ardmore primarily on D Stage so again incorrect. There is no union pressure on inward productions in this country as exemplified by the new SPI/SIPTU agreement awaiting ratification. Crews in Ireland are prepared to do very favourable deals in return for long term employment - rates here have already been significantly cut to help both indigineous and inward production. As for a small pool of people as per the last film board study Ireland can currently supply at least 3 "A" crews covering all major departments. Ireland is as beneficial a shoot location as the North and in many ways better off - ie there are far more experienced line producers based here than in the North where they have to bring in people from the UK. As I have said before Section 481 is guaranteed for another 3 years therefore there is no uncertainty for that period.

it to sell the concept to the deep-pocketed venture capitalists in the middle east. There are plenty of investors that will throw millions at a much lesser movie. Do him justice when they clearly have failed on every attempt (on purpose) at bringing these comic book characters to life. Reynolds no doubt said yes to Lantern because he it was a better opportunity. Im sure he seen the direction FOX was trying to take Deadpool and he said fuck that. Deadpool should not get made even if he is assuring that it will be done right. FOX wont let that happen. A deadpool movie will have a budget less than a SAW movie like Wolverine did. by jt kirk

You'd get the social commentary with the weight of the '70s comic, and you'd have more to do than just wave a bunch of green CGI energy weapons around the whole time. There was a reason DC paired the 2 back in the day, they knew they couldn't carry their own titles separately in a heavier universe, and these movies have taken place in their own heavier universes. This ain't gonna be like Fantastic Four where everything's totally ridiculous, nobody would go see a GL movie like that because GL doesn't have enough recognition with the kiddies.

    by creamcheesealchemist

The constructs relate to the user's personality, expertise, etc., but I think the difference is this: Since the GL Ring is a superpower, it can compensate for the lack of its bearer's technical knowledge in creating a machine. Ok, if Kyle or Hal run out of ring juice, that's it. John at least makes things he knows can work outside the ring.

In a more serious note Green Lantern is a GREAT superhero

    by powerring

Come on, his weakness used to be wood and later the color yellow.taxi-cab driver could kick his ass.
--You are *way* out of date and totally wrong. There are 1,000 ways around the weakness and it has been proven. GL lost his weakness to yellow with Kyle Rayner in the 90's. Just because some idiot in a yellow robot suit attacks him, doesn't mean he can' superheat the air with his ring and vaporize the attacker. That's only one, 999 more ways to go.

Dc recognised the lameness of his weakness and tried to fix it.First by releaving that the guardians of OA had deliberately gave to the rings such a weakness,in order to make the lanterns become better heroes by facing and beating this weakness.
--That's so he wasn't fucking omnipotent. Notice they tuned down superman many times? You can't be all powerful or these is no story. Despite the fact the ring has destroyed and moved planets, and taken out kryptonian villains.

imho that explanation of the deliberate weakness was good, but they fucked it all later by the reveal of the Phalanx entity which was supposed to be the incarnation of fear and fear had the colour of yellow, and since phalanx was imprisoned in the power source of the rings, the rings were sensitive to yellow.fucking lame.

-- That was Ron Marz and who the fuck is phalanx??? You mean PARALLAX? It was a mistake, as has been made with all charcters at one point.

and then they threw in the idea of the emotions being represented with different colors and now everything has gone to hell.blue vs yellow vs green, the lanters should be painters not cops.
    --It's a new angle...deal with it.

But what is the most lame thing about the Lanter is the power of his ring.that thing can virtually do anything, only restricted by the lanterns imagination.and for a mysterious reason the ring knows how to make even a machine that hasnt existed before.
--Again, you missed the point. If they don't limit him, he could make galactus his bitch every time, and they had to do something. His "weakness" is now concentration and willpower level...but again, if it wasn't there....you have God.

for instance: -Lantern: ring,i want a machine that will reverse the polarity of earth and then amplify the energy of the electrons of the upper atmosphere and move them to moon where they will transform into water and fill its craters. -ring: u got it.
--Yes...it's part of "anything within willpower" As if Silver surfer has not done controversial things.

and people whine that superman is overpowered? or there are no rules concerning magic in the comics? jesus.
-- No, it's inconsistencies on mostly the Dc side over the years. Even Marvel has gotten wildly vague. They don't come out and say Thor is the best because he has gotten his ass kicked, so has Gladiator, hulk and silver surfer, but they are a bit more consistent and explained than DC/GL.

Modern GL has come a long way in defining what he can do/can't do. So what? That doesn't make him any less great, but some writers are lame.

EXACTLY, and no prob. They have SO much great material to use, it's astounding. He's like the fantasy/Sci Fi version of Batman. He is stubborn as all hell and a great warrior and leader, and has lady problems cuz of his profession. But Star Wars of the DCU this movie most surely should be. Can't express that enough. I think Ryan can pull it off if directed correctly, and just praying that they have a good script to run with. Everything else should fall into place after that.

The First Flight animated movie was pretty cool. They took a lot of liberties with the whole origin/Sinestro Corp deal, but I was just happy to have a decent telling of GL and being able to watch it and enjoy it.

There is no problem...it's just incredibly expensive to film here (and the unions have been know to cause production hell when they're feeling squirrely). Is that to a lot of folks he is unknown. That didn't stop a secondary character like blade being a hit trilogy. I still don't care much about blade, but it is a good example of an unknown hitting it big. GL can win an audience and make it big in the right hands. Perhaps the animated version is too ambitious and the corps unnecessary. But a standalone GL story would work very well. Again, if you don't care, stay the fuck home.

Being a proud union member myself,it's not the unions causing production hell when we get squirrely. We don't get squirrely,we merely seek what's contractually obligate to us. We, the crew, the below the line, are still the CHEAPEST part of production. What is expensive is the massive studio infrastructure and unholy number of producers on a given big-budget film. So, where do they look to cut costs first? The crew. And what's an easy way to do that? Go out of state or out of the country where they can pay crews less(Canadians being known as Mexicans with sweaters for their cheap labor). As for the union causing problems, it's easy for studios and production to blame us since they also control publicity.Los Angeles still gives the audiences the best production value for their dollar. What you call bureaucratic hurdles is merely a tough balancing act between making movies and respecting the landscape and our neighbors, unlike other states where studios are allowed to run roughshod over citizenry and landscape alike, and also the much more lax(and unsafe) labor laws the average right-to-work state offers.I'm not saying our IATSE isn't squeaky clean and not a busybody. But, we've lost more(benefits, wages, homes,.etc) than we've gained in recent years while studios have only lost revenue and stock market value. Warner Bros. keeps mega-expensive hitless wonder Joel Silver on their books while laying off a few thousand rank-and-file studio employees. It's the union that's done what it can to bring back jobs to L.A., certainly not the corporate bottom-line studios.

Or Danger Mouse. As long as the US dosen't fuck with it. Something is wrong with directors and studios that tweek cartoons to make them real world. Fucking Under Dog was turned into a beagle or something. I'm not sure what he was in the cartoon except a shoe shine boy. Fucking jack-asses don't understand the imagination of something so silly, actually being cool

As for GL I used to think he sucked too. Until I read Johns' Gl. He gave him a solid foundation and heart. Also the constructs don't make stuff that the wearer can't envision. If it's be on their scope it's not going to work to good. And whom ever said GL is well known obviosly you didn't watch the Justice League and JL Unlimtied. Those two shows made GL be one of the biggest bad asses in the universe. And he was black, which made me happy. Because we don't get to many heroes. At least ones that don't have electricity as a power. So weak. WHY ALWAYS FUCKING ELECTRICITY!!

are the reason it's not filmed in the U.S.! Although I hear they are looking at New Orleans as an alterantive location. Seems odd to me, given what I know about the character. Loved the GL: First Flight direct to video. My only beef? Too short. Seemed a bit rushed.
