I still wonder why they changed the name...
-
is... it?
-
Not that it's a bad thing, mind you.
-
...but considering they're doing the "same thing" here, I'm quite a bit worried. When I saw this post on the front page I was hoping this would look and be more like American McGee's Alice, a darker take in modern style. Someone really need to adapt that f*cker already.
-
These Syfy miniseries are exercises in getting really good acting talent and pretty decent production value and hoping it will cover up the lack of an interesting take on the source material.
I like the 'look' of this, as I did with Tinman
But all to often, it seems reimagining these classic stories as sci-fi properties involves throwing in spaceships, gunfights, and a 'shocking' reveal in the third act where a classic ally turns out to be a foe, or vice versa.... or worse yet both
If that's all we're getting with 'Alice', then at least we have Burton's take to look forward to. -
I'll wait for the Tim Burton version
-
Didn't like Tin Man, but this seems to treat "Alice in Wonderland" as a prequel, which - while not original - works for me.
-
I admit some of it had some cool twists and devices but that ending was honestly the most shit, non-ending I've ever seen on a mini series. oh the witch is gone...look a moon-END!
-
Why are people interested? None of this is visionary nor entertaining. It's forced and ham-fisted.
-
we can get some nice Alice on Alice action....Burton's is what, like 17 i think i read? this girl seems to be in her 20s so yeah...fun times for all.
-
Big missed opportunity there. Could have been pretty cool, but wound up just a big mess.
-
Anyone remember the 1970s at all?
-
Funniest thing, the saddest part is, I never knew why.
-
A brunette Sarah Chalke
-
Those were nice. The ending to that movie was so fucking abrupt, it made me kick myself for bothering with any of that mess. The guy who played Tin Man was M. Bison in Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li, an unintentionally hilarious movie. As for Alice? I doubt I'll watch it... it'll be something good to take a nap to, i'm sure.
-
Also, Vic Tayback, RIP- Jojo Krako from TOS "A Piece of the Action"
-
It had a 1980s vibe to it. I wonder of Vern liked it too...
-
And ALICE doesn't even look that good.

the only good Sci-fi channel (i am not typing syfy ) miniseries
by robotsscareme
the lost room.. i really wanted them to make that into a full show.. every other mini series they made is worse than re-runs of mork and mindy
-
Although I'm more keen to see Burton's.
-
I hate the idea of "reimagining" classics. They're classic for a reason.
-
"Tin Man" was awful, an insult to all of us
Now they're shamelessly jumping on Tim Burton's bandwagon?
I haven't trusted "SyFy" since Battlestar season 3 and they've done NOTHING to win me back
"After BSG ends, its all over"
What we're getting is a Voyager/BSG ripoff, "Stargate: Universe" which looks UNDERwhelming from the trailers....
then a horrible BSG prequel,"Caprica" (their version of Star Trek: Enterprise) written by that hack, Jane "my episodes are self-proclaimed fan-favorites!" Espenson
God help us all. -
deader then a titmouse
-
from Silicon Valets to Wonderland eh.
-
I can't even muster up playing the trailer based on that image alone.
-
Its the cute kid from "Primeval"!
-
tin man zoey = acting school fail.
-
Looked interesting from the promos and whatnot, but it was pretty bad in my view. I dunno, couldn't hurt to give this a shot.
-
changing the name to SyFy is retarded.
-
Sorry, just threw up on my keyboard.
-
I vote for a surly cook, a dimwitted sidekick, and a screechy "kiss my grits" about every ten minutes in this version! For no apparent reason, of course. Just... make it so. Shit! Make the new Alice, the one who *IS* the surly cook and the dimwitted sidekick and who screeches "kiss my grits" every ten minutes. Have her in that asylum 'cause of her multiple personality disorder and, hand to God, I'd watch that.
-
I'm getting so sick of reading "[Random movie/TV show/miniseries] was stupid/one of the worst things I've ever seen/total shit/[enter random negative comment here]." Do you people actually LIKE anything?
-
"Giving shitty actors a paycheck for child support since 2009!"
-
Wish she were blonde, though.
-
I want some of the coke in that network's creative staff conference room. Just... one... toot! Snort!BLAM!"I've got it! I've got it! Sherlock Holmes as a cyborg tween with an openly gay "friend" who solves dark magic mysteries in a steampunk alternate universe while ducking his mother/housefrau (maiden name - Hudson, of course) and his overbearing father, Moriarty Holmes!"Okay, shit. That ain't bad. Oh, SyFy! Where's my motherfucking movie check!

So Willing just has a massive hard on for Alice in Wonderland?
by juansanchez
-
but the acting and story was awful. The wicked witch was fun to stare at though. Best cleavage ever.
-
what is the demographic that they are trying to target with *that* little bit of programming genius? Spotty teen-aged redneck inbred nerds that still live in their momma's barn?
-
because they now have fuck-all to do with SCIENCE fiction. Bicycle Sharer, you are a fucking genius. I implore you to lay off the coke - think of the little ones!
-
...within the next two years. =)
-
hes so cool ill watch it just for him (his portrayal of pennywise is my favorite role ever), also it had the guy from primeval in it a bunch
-
I love her.
She was yummy in Power Play. If it's ever on DVD, and you're a hockey fan, definitely pick it up. -
I can't really think of one, outside BSG of course.
-
Thats the basic reason for the name change, you can't brand or copyright the word "Sci fi", but "Sy-Fy" is now a tradmarked word and if it gets put on merchandise the newtwork has to be paid, it's a business decision not some big conspiracy like some of you think Personally 'Sy-Fy' was a bad choice to go to because it sounds retarded, but i understand the principle behind the change...they just should have chosen a better interpretation of the word like 'SCI-FY'...wait that also sounds retarded, ok maybe they should have just changed the name all together or comined the words Sci-fi channel into one word "Scifichan"...although i think that was an extint species of bird

So, its basically "Through the looking Glass" w/o actually...
by geomancer21
being an adaptation of that book? Meh, That miniseries creeped me out, they should use that style.
-
Which is the only time it's ever been painful to look at Ms Deschanel. Is making Alice a brunette meant to be edgy and different?
-
that is all
-
Anything entertaining that happens will be because Matt Frewer or Tim Curry brought the goods - all else looks like more aimed-a-camera-at-the-actors-and-filmed style of movie making.
-
that's what I thought of when I heard of a SciFi version of "Alice".
-
How watches this moronic bullshit? Tin Man was utter crap as was their take on Flash Gordon. All their made for SyFy movies suck as much as their new moniker. It is a terrible network run by people who have absolutely no idea what real Science Fiction is.
-
I will probably go my entire life without being involved with an Alice In Wonderland story, let alone two.
-
Why the hell would anyone write a lines as obvious and hackneyed as "You've brought down the whole house of cards!" and "You're in way over your head! when doing an Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass update? Lewis Carroll was *clever* and hilarious, and if you can't touch his dialogue (or his narrative), why bother?
-
Now they just need Christopher Lloyd and they can have the "Hey, it's that guy!" trifecta.
-
...is poison.
-
I thought Syfy was going to do the BSG remake treatment to another 70's show, when I heard the title. -
Hey, is he dead? *snort* BLAM! That gives me another idea!We set it in Purgatory ('cause Vic's dead, see) and every week we feature some newly dead, unlucky son-of-a-bitch fuck climbing into a sort of Death Match Ring with Vic Tayback where they wrestle for where the new guy spends eternity! You win? Go to heaven. You lose? Well, I think you guys see where this is going...Dude, it looks like we're running low on the ol' Peruvian marching powder and where'd that little blonde hooker go? I'll be right back.
-
It's called Vic Tayback's Payback! Oh, there she is. Come here, you dirty blonde bitch. Be back.
-
To have some more blow on the table when I get back.
-
"That guy" trifecta! ROFLMAO! Matt Frewer, Tim Curry, and Christopher Lloyd! Dude, you fuckin' nailed that one!
-
Matt Frewer! He's the new "Rectum? damn near killed him!"So, dude walks into a bar. He's wearing Matt Frewer on his head...A rabbi, an Irishman, and Matt Frewer are on a plane that's about to crash...Farmer with a beautiful daughter answers the knock at his door; it's Matt Frewer selling vacuum cleaners...All of the above are true 'cause they're things that Matt Frewer has done to pay the bills between gigs on SyFy.
-
yes, I can imagine greater. MUCH greater...their tagline SHOULD be, "Lower your expectations!" or "It's fucking 3am, what do you expect?" or "YOU try making a Sci-Fi movie for $45!"
-
Canadian actors are sub-par especially when they produce shows there. They feel cheap.
-
Home to Stargate, BSG, Sci Fi Monster movies.
-
Isn't that Connor from Primeval?
-
Hey its the lead singer of Silicone Valets, you know valet not valley. "Ideal" rocks!
-
nice promo music, Ive used the same music before.
-
That had all the drama and forced urgency of a slow piss. And I *loved* the shitty accents too...
-
Do not speak ill of Canada.
-
wha???
-
Meh.
Meh.
[p]
Meh. -
They have a really spotty record beyond that and BG.
-
The Lost Room kicked ass. I've also got a bit of a soft spot for that Children of Dune miniseries they did a while back.
-
Specifically because it was such a wasted opportunity. Good cast (more or less), decent visuals, some really interesting ideas... but the implementation just blew it all. Just sucked so much. Forgettable otherwise. This will be the same. I will still watch of course. But then I will complain. Again.
-
leaves me feeling that alice is going to be more of the same and i'll pass.
-
Hit or Miss, and most miss, but some are fun for a rainy day. BSG set the bar incredibly high for subsequent series. I have The Lost Room in my queue. I wanted to like Tin Man. I don't mind the reimagining of classic childrens stories. Most, like Grimms have been so altered from the original text that at this point they are like ever evolving fire side tales. Tin Man looked pretty good, and had a nice start but by the last act I lost complete interest. Like watching sand drain in an hourglass. In the case of Tin Man the sand was not only representing time and editing cuts, but the budget as well. With the exception of the usually spot on, Miss Deschanel (it just didn't seem like her heart was in it) the acting was good. Neal McDonough (Buck Compton of Band of Brothers)is always solid. The gorgeous Kathleen Robertson was stand out great as the wicked Azkadellia. Overall, it felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be, a gritty take on OZ or a Henson fantasy. Alice looks to be more of the same. I'll check it out and hope for the best.
-
Gonna be on Dollhouse.
-
Welcome to AICN,Start hatingor move along.
-
Also you need a cool username likeLindsay_Lohan's_Labia_Lubricant!
-
..."SyFy" can kiss my ass. They used to put out some pretty cool stuff - their mini's of the Dune saga were brilliant - and obviously they had their hands in BSG, but fuck me did they go downhill quick. What they did to the Flash Gordon story was un-fucking-forgivable so unless a show comes out from them in future that is universally praised as the greatest science fiction show ever, they can fuck off. And this is not that show, dear talkbacker.
-
I think we should start misspelling everything in SyFy talkbacks.
-
They could at least get a hot chick to play Alice. This chick is average at best.
-

I'd rather watch the SyFy version than the TIm Burton one
by landosystem
Of course, I'd rather masturbate with sandpaper to naked photos of Kevin Smith than watch the SyFy channel. What a stupid name for a channel.
-
I think both are different enough. I'll watch both and judge 'em as I see 'em.
