    by midgarddragon

...but considering they're doing the "same thing" here, I'm quite a bit worried. When I saw this post on the front page I was hoping this would look and be more like American McGee's Alice, a darker take in modern style. Someone really need to adapt that f*cker already.

because tinman was so effing great

    by voteroslin08

These Syfy miniseries are exercises in getting really good acting talent and pretty decent production value and hoping it will cover up the lack of an interesting take on the source material.
I like the 'look' of this, as I did with Tinman
But all to often, it seems reimagining these classic stories as sci-fi properties involves throwing in spaceships, gunfights, and a 'shocking' reveal in the third act where a classic ally turns out to be a foe, or vice versa.... or worse yet both
If that's all we're getting with 'Alice', then at least we have Burton's take to look forward to.

Those were nice. The ending to that movie was so fucking abrupt, it made me kick myself for bothering with any of that mess. The guy who played Tin Man was M. by jettl93

Thats the basic reason for the name change, you can't brand or copyright the word "Sci fi", but "Sy-Fy" is now a tradmarked word and if it gets put on merchandise the newtwork has to be paid, it's a business decision not some big conspiracy like some of you think Personally 'Sy-Fy' was a bad choice to go to because it sounds retarded, but i understand the principle behind the change...they just should have chosen a better interpretation of the word like 'SCI-FY'...wait that also sounds retarded, ok maybe they should have just changed the name all together or comined the words Sci-fi channel into one word "Scifichan"...although i think that was an extint species of bird

Hit or Miss, and most miss, but some are fun for a rainy day. BSG set the bar incredibly high for subsequent series. I have The Lost Room in my queue. I wanted to like Tin Man. I don't mind the reimagining of classic childrens stories. Most, like Grimms have been so altered from the original text that at this point they are like ever evolving fire side tales. Tin Man looked pretty good, and had a nice start but by the last act I lost complete interest. Like watching sand drain in an hourglass. In the case of Tin Man the sand was not only representing time and editing cuts, but the budget as well. With the exception of the usually spot on, Miss Deschanel (it just didn't seem like her heart was in it) the acting was good. Neal McDonough (Buck Compton of Band of Brothers)is always solid. The gorgeous Kathleen Robertson was stand out great as the wicked Azkadellia. Overall, it felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be, a gritty take on OZ or a Henson fantasy. Alice looks to be more of the same. I'll check it out and hope for the best.

After how they raped Flash Gordon...

    by hint_of_smegma

..."SyFy" can kiss my ass. They used to put out some pretty cool stuff - their mini's of the Dune saga were brilliant - and obviously they had their hands in BSG, but fuck me did they go downhill quick. What they did to the Flash Gordon story was un-fucking-forgivable so unless a show comes out from them in future that is universally praised as the greatest science fiction show ever, they can fuck off. And this is not that show, dear talkbacker.

    Wow, This Looks Spectacularly Awful

They could at least get a hot chick to play Alice. This chick is average at best.

I'd rather watch the SyFy version than the TIm Burton one

    by landosystem

Of course, I'd rather masturbate with sandpaper to naked photos of Kevin Smith than watch the SyFy channel. What a stupid name for a channel.

Room enough for the Syfy version and the Burton version

    by kikstad

I think both are different enough. I'll watch both and judge 'em as I see 'em.
