Is This Whiplash's Final Costume In IRON MAN 2??
SPOILER ALERT !!
Merrick again...
Evidently, this news was posted elsewhere (besides ReelzChannel - linked below) late last week - like MTV. Somehow it feel through the cracks here, but is interested (and unreported on our site to date) all the same...

Merrick here...
Admittedly, there's a degree of extrapolation involved here...but THIS REPORT over at ReelzChannel might've made a pretty good catch:
Whether intentionally or inadvertently, a piece of art potentially depicting Mickey Rourke's final "Whiplash" costume from IRON MAN 2 may've been issued by way of a Marvel announcement re: an upcoming publication (that's a really bad sentence, I know, I'm too tired to fix it right now).
Per Reelz...
The latest image of Whiplash comes from a Marvel announcement of a new comic book series, Iron Man Vs. Whiplash, which Marvel Editor Bill Rosemann boasts will connect to the movie by filling in the details of Whiplash's history before he appears in Iron Man 2
Keeping this in mind...
CLICK HERE TO SEE THE DESIGN IN QUESTION!!!
Again, a bit conjectural. But Reelz's theory makes sense...and unintentional reveals of this nature happen frequently...so I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up making an appearance in the film.
Thoughts?

Always wanted to do that

Hope it does end up looking like that btw.
-
Why the hell am I
-
...not impressive. He looks like he should be an unlockable character in Soul Caliber.
I like the shot of him sans-mask at the race track. Looks tougher, meaner, et cetera... -
and yes, whatever.
-
What else can I say...
-
And it's not a good idea to leave sections of your body exposed.
-
anyone else?
-
Last week guys. Last week.
-
usually the costumes don't translate directly but this could be it I suppose.
-
A whole world of Meh.
-
Looks awesome. I like how there are echoes of Stark's costume and technology but it's still its own beast.
-
...but slashfilm had this up a week ago, this really is old news AICN. Keep up guys.
-
I know when I go into combat, I only like to armor one leg and one arm. It's good to be stylish when you're trying to protect your limbs. The enemy appreciates that.
-
To finish my post. Damn twitchy pinky. I just can't get excited for this movie and don't know why. Loved the firt one.
-
http://tinyurl.com/ltzksv It's Whiplashtastic!!!
-
Why is there always someone who complains when AICN isn't the first with a breaking news story. So what? They're reporting on the story, there's no need for them to always be first.
-
The leg and the arm are vulnerable but its the lack of armour on the top of his skull that I'd take advantage of if I was Stark. Just bring the fist down on his cranium and the film's over.
-
I saw it about a week ago also, it might have been on Latino Review.
I quite like it, even though I think Whiplash is showing way too much skin. How the hell is he supposed to pose a challenge to Iron Man when one well placed shot to the exposed arm could end it? -
I'm with you on that. It looks cool but I don't think it was that well thought out. Plus it looks like Vega's lovechild!
-
Wha?
-
You guys are really falling behind.
-
...the fucking comic to understand IM2? I hate when they do that. I'm a movie guy, not a comic geek.
-
Normally I'd agree, as they're usually only a few days later than other sites and it doesn't bother me. But this time it's a week or more later than other sites. That's a damn long time in internet years.
-
"I think Whiplash is showing way too much skin."
I'm betting they wouldn't be complaining about this nearly as much if Whiplash were female.
As for Whiplash vs Iron Man, well, Iron Man flies, and Whiplash doesn't. Iron Man has ranged attacks and can hit him from orbit, while Whiplash can't. Unless Whiplash goes after an un-armoured Stark, the writer(s) have their work cut out making it an interesting fight. -
but all this talk about "limbs being exposed" needs to end. It's a film based on a fucking comic book about a guy who builds himself a metal suit to fight the baddies. Realism is not necessary. Just make a damn good flick. Honestly compared to the first release pic, I hope this piece of art is teh final costume, it looks pretty bad ass.
-
... which doesn't necessarily mean that this is what we'll see in the movie. After the first Iron Man flick I'm willing to give Favreau the benefit of doubt for now. That being said, I'll agree that this Whiplash costume design doesn't seem very original or inspired.

you know, not everybody checks every website ever made, i'm willing to bet some people only come here and get their info. so who cares who was first, all that matters is that they report it. i wonder if this happens on newspaper sites too. "oh the NY Post had this last week..LOSERS". sheesh.

Get some sleep kid!
-
Iron Man can fly. He can also just shoot himself into Whiplash like a human missile (Stark has full body armor, Whippy is only covering his tits and thighs with steel). Of course, a dude with an M16 and a pack of smokes could do fatal damage to Whiplash too. He's a silly villain.
-
Nolan discovers rotating rooms. Trying to trump the JP cup scene are we.. Nightmare is #1 when it comes to the rotating room gag.
-
Seriously, these other sites that get this info earlier have nothing else to do than clip news. AICN is a maelstrom of activity- running screenings, policing insane TBs, etc. People fail to recognize this is a much more dynamic and chaotic atmosphere than some bullshit site that simply posts articles and goes along their merry way.
-
HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!
-
Other than that, looks awright to me.
-
Whiplash obviously doen't see his brain as a vital organ.

Can't wait to show you Batman Fanboi's what a real Sequel is.
by ganymede3010
Warmachine > anything you'll ever see in Batman.
-
I mean, whiplash cant really compete with Iron man by wearing no shirt and a pair of leather pants.
-
So It really doesn't matter if he's missing a few pieces of armor. The radius of whips are more then enough to cover any exposed areas to ranged or melee attacks.
-
I saw this design in the solicitations for November on the cover of the regular monthly Iron Man title... It could be that they are keeping the 616 design cohesive with the Filmverse, but we'll see...
-

-
This shit was released on the internet almost two weeks ago (hell, even RottenTomatoes had it as 'front page news). Talk about being behind the eight ball - AICN is getting scooped a ton lately. It must now stand for "Already In Circulation News".
-
While it may seem childish to some (like yourself), this site always prided itself on it's relevance and up-to-the-minute approach of reactionary solicitation and publishing. This site is routinely behind most stories by 3-4 days and sometimes (like this instance), it's behind a week or two. Childish? No...and even you could publish faster than this site is doing - this is a site being supported by ADVERTISERS; those advertisers require eyeballs..and only relevance ensures eyeballs bud. It's not childish..it's economics.
-
I never knew this was supposed to be "Ain't It First News". People who complain about this shit are probably firsties, too.
-
...it's a drawing. As you were.
-
i have noticed that /film has beaten aicn to pretty much every story in past year although the coaxial is updated pretty regularly
-
Might be setting the bar just a little too high guys.I can't see Mickey pulling a Heath and wowing everyone with his performance of Whiplash.I'd be happy to eat my words though...
-
Style over function.
-
it looks decent enough. A lot better than say The Green Goblin we got in Spiderman.
-
Everything else about IM2 will be better.
-
to his armor and then kick his ass or something...it's like Iron man..if his shoulder was exposed and he had a whip.
-
Its a comic book movie and everyone is upset that there is too much style? That there are parts of his body exposed? Jeeze. I want it to LOOK cool. Because when I pay $10 for a movie I watch it with my eyes.
-
I wonder what Marvel movies would look like if they had the rights to all their characters back. Because this is obviously a homage to Omega Red. Who right now, is at the trailer park talent of FOX studios. Anyway, i'm just glad that there are enough characters to put in these movies now to make a real marvel universe instead of the one city worlds of the x-men and spiderman movies.
-
Who matches Quint in his exclusive sit-downs? Who gets screenings to more fans? Where else do you spend the majority of your web time chatting about movies/tv? Oh that's right, nowhere else. Please- simmer down.
-
Yeah that MTV.com, the music channel website.
How about the Avengers news from IO9.com?
Wake up AICN, your better than this. -
Crispy.
-
Guess what, I'm not.
-
I can almost guarantee this is his suit in the film. I mean come on, the electro-whips, circular power unit, etc? Its similar to the stills of Mikey Rourke we have seen before only more completed looking. As for not being armored in certain places I havent a clue. Maybe Whiplash figures because he has those whips that Iron Man wouldnt be able to get close enough to him to exploit his weakness anyway. Oh yeah, and wasnt Mandarin supposed to be in this or did they scrap him?
-
It is a rush-job. Those hardly ever turn out well...
-
Could be worse.
-
were talking about this early last week.
Honestly, I don't like elements of it but I can understand the structure behind this design. I'd rather not see Rourke's face obscured myself.
And I think I'm the only person who really digs the Mark I Whiplash costume, it's perfect considering the man just escaped prison. -
Lets see the whips deflect a maelstrom of bullets! Are they fast enough for that? (sorry, I don't read the comic, maybe they are ultra light speed fast)
-
There is a tag, you know
-
I thought I would see something new. On a side note, today is Superhead's bday. Celebrate accordingly.
-
Hulk's in, Black Widow's in- this is news? Seriously, you catch up!
-
A bit dominant that way.
-
That's the reason he cited for his ambivalence about doing Sin City 2. In other words, "you'll have to pay me a lot more to sit in that makeup chair for 3 hours again." You can reason from there that he'd probably demand something more airy than the Iron Man/War Machine suits.
-
he had no armor at all.
-
How realistic was it for Stark and the doctor to build the first suit while being held hostage by terrorists? Or later, when Iron Man blew up all the weapons without harming any innocent villagers? Or... you know what, JUST FUCKING STOP with the demands for ultra-realism over expressionism in these kinds of films. As long as it's psychologically real and the world feels real, the complaints about the armor is pointless bitching.
-
due out in a couple months, NOT concept art for the movie.

Just like Spiderman 2, the sequel should be balls out, featuring a stronger, more dangerous, bigger villain. I know nothing of Whiplash, but he seems to be more of a henchman than a major baddie. Isn't Mandarin Iron Man's primary nemesis? As silly as he might seem, he is hell bent on world domination, controls an army of minions and has magical powers that can overcome Iron Man's tech. I guess their strategy is to go for a trilogy and save him for the 3rd movie, but fuck that, just go bigger and better than taking a step down.
-
Oh come on, you know you were thinking it. ;)

Jesus, you fucking 6th grader...we ALL have asked you nicely to stop spamming your fag-site at us in hopes of generating eyeballs that your fuck-all shit content couldn't drive on its own merit. What part of don't spam do you not get? FUCK OFF LITTLE CUNT.
-
Don't you know how these superhero movies work, the hero or villian always test out a prototype of the costume, then by the end they get the final cool costume.
-
Interested to see it in the flick if this is how it's gonna be.
-
Late again on news ladies. This is a week old!
Who runs this site?! Hahahahaha! -
The Rourke-Man is a tough mofo without any armor at all. I'd like to see him play most of his scenes without the mask. He's badass enough to school RDJ with his grizzled voice alone. Also, is ScarJo doing the accent? Cuz I love that chick, but she's not the greatest thespian.
-
And people think this is news?
-
Writing the Mandarin would be tough given Marvel's decision so far to exclude "magic" from the Avengers universe. I don't think they plan to breach anything supernatural until Thor. Mandarin's rings of power wouldn't fit very well in the Iron Man universe as it's been written to date. If there was magic out there, I'll bet Stark would have been researching it.
-
"Somehow it feel through the cracks here, but is interested (and unreported on our site to date) all the same..." Again... AGAIN I ASK... How in the name of all that is FUCK did this motherfucker get a job WRITING?????

What THE FUCK is that supposed to be? How can this pass for professional journalism? I would NEVER allow something like that go to print! And I can't get a job in journalism. Jesus-fucking-Christ.....
-
Could've been worse... Harry could've written it.
"Somehow it. Feel through the cracks. Here, but is interested. (And unreported on our site to date), all the same. And frankly."I think 'And frankly.' is my new catchphrase. -
Did the guy wake up too early and now have enough time to put on the whole suit? This design has a lot of Achilles Heels. The writers are going to have to do some fancy footwork to show why Stark and others can't just blow his arm off or punch his head off his body.
-

Mandarin will happen! They set it up in the first movie
by spectrebeeyatch
The terrorist leader... His group was called ten rings. He was obsessed with power and had a huge crazy looking ring on in the movie. That is why the baddies for the second film are "meh" because they might be setting up for something bigger.

Assuming it's even real...

Why is "magic" always in discussion when the Mandarin comes up?
by anakinsdiapers
The Mandarins rings are alien technology. It's always been alien technology.
The real problem with tackling the Mandarin is his "fu Manchu-Ming the merciless" persona that has been his over all characterization. Otherwise, Super Science is definately an Iron Man subject that isn't a problem subject, even if it's alien. -
I know imdb screws up a lot but has this been confirmed anywhere?
-
And Whiplash looks gayer than J Edgar Hoover!!!
Still looking forward to the film though!! -
But pretty "meh" overall. I guess the idea is to make it look as much like Iron Man as possible?I just don't have a real good feeling for this film in general. I don't think Whiplash is a viable villain and Mickey Rourke trying to do a Russian accent has the potential for unintentional comedy.I'm sure watching Downey jr. riff will be funny, but otherwise I'm worried.
-
is operated by retards. Try and avoid it like the plague.
-
1.That they are alien. It somehow takes the chinese myth out of them and makes them less impressive.Imagine if the LOTR rings were parts of the engine of an alien spacecraft.jesus.
2.They made the aliens who were the original owners of the rings,as dragonlike humanoids living undercover as capitalists. again the element of the chinese dragon myth is gone.ffs.
3.Fin Fang Foom who is one of those alien,in his non-humanoid form which is that of a chinese giant, mythical dragon, happens to wear pants.PANTS.wtf was marvel smokin?
anyway Mandarin should be in the IM movies, and eventually this will happen, the question is who actor would be perfect for this role? -
obviously they are trying not to follow again the route of good armor vs bad armor, like in the first movie. But if the wearer of the Whiplash costume, has half of his body exposed, that means that Iron Man will be half in the movie underpowered or powerless.u know like in the superman movies.
i too have a bad feeling about this movie.. -
WHIP IT GOOD.
-
...what's Justin Hammer's costume going to look like? Does it kick ass?
-
He's going to be Asian, but he's going to be "South East Asian" like the terrorist leader from Iron Man 1. IMO the terrorist leader from IM1 will be the Mandarin. His origins will be slightly rebooted. From what I remember of the Mandarin there's no way he'll work on film in is original form.
-
Aug 24, 2009 4:00:29 PM CDT
Ominus-Andy Lau or Tony Leung would be prefect for the role
by picardsucks
Both of them speak very good English and both would own as Mandarin. Hope it's Andy Lau. I think hollywood owes them something for completely ripping off Infernal Affairs (essentially frame by frame) in the Departed and not even throwing them a cameo boner
-
And how they gave The Mandarin green skin? Damn, that was stupid.
-
Could be worse, could be worse...
Now let's talk about what the Black Widow won't be wearing. Mrowr.

NECK SHOTS are a work hazard in the 24-verse. Of course, there you can be up and about and running a counter terrorist unit a few hours later, but still!

If you're interested, the first pic of Justin Hammer surfaced at superherohype dot com last week. He looks oddly like Oldman's Commish without the 'stache.

The stills are NOTHING.... After seeing WARMACHINE in action, I can't help but want to see this movie RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!. I'm as jazzed for this one as I was for the last one, probably moreso.

Unless in the movie, Iron Man does blast his arm off or war machine. Or better yet, how about whiplash cuts his own arm off accidentally. OR Whiplash fights Omega Red over who's supposed to look like Omega Red.
-
Why not hire a little surfer dude to check for new like his, news that other people post first. Then he can throw that up here for us to talback about. He could be tiny, like a little AICN surfer goblin. He could become Harry's minime. Still, this site has the most entertaining talkback ever, in the history of all things. Just think it would be fun to see pieces like this on here not weeks after they first appear on almost all other movie sites.
-
+ i reallly hate puppies, almost as much as rabbits. j/k..about the puppies I'm serious about the rabbits though.

the people making these decisions make more money in a year than you will in a lifetime.

No this is not Whiplash's costume. I was there and this ain't it. It looks like the one from the cover of Ent Weekly.
-
.....jeeeez guys, this has been out for over 2 weeks now. Why even bother reporting it at all at this point.
Got any breaking news on the Mecha design from District 9? No? How about all those cool machines from GI Joe? I mean those movies have only been out for 2 weeks, so that should be right up your alley.
-
Rourke is going to start in the bondage junkman Whiplash costume, but end up as the Crimson Dynamo. Why else would they name the character Vanko instead of Scarlotti?
-
If so, this Whiplash is spot on.
-
Rock tha violet, Mick
-
the iron man villains for the movie all have the same iron man power source? can we get something else? or is it just going to be suit battle after suit battle? Lets get some technology vs super power action.
-
they should just fucking bring the Mandarin and go with the Ancient Chinese Magician/Alien Tech Enemy thing. It would be awesome. I'd love to see Iron Man vs the dragon aliens...if it was done right.
-
Whenever he shows up on screen. Some "Quiet Riot" and "AC/DC" would go great with that look.
-
You will see the fucking costume in the movie, why get excited about something like this? Are you guys really that easily manipulated? Bunch of Pavlovian dogs...
-
Flames on Optimus, Batman's nipples, Snakes eye's lips, what will it be this time out? I think people are overthinking Whiplash too much, a minor character in the comics, they can do what they will to him. He's not Spider-man or Batman or anything big like that. I am just hoping for a great story with great action and hint of comedy like first one.
-
The first was terrific fun (without resorting to gloomy moodiness or 'darkness' to try and seem relevant). This one looks like a hoot and Mickey Rourke is always a riot...seeing him going at Tony Stark will be worth the price of admission.
-
and there seems to be a conveniently vulnerable spot in the ass as well. weird.
-
the only way it would be a fair fight. Or...he could distract Tony with a bottle of booze...By the way, where is his cape, wizard collar, and fabulous boots?Hopefully we get Armor Wars next time, because Blacklash is feckin' lame-o.
-
look more like the classic version? Or is Adi Granov's interpretation the end all, be all?
-
just won't....Raimi kept Spider-Man's mask off for half his movies for a reason. Well because he's a retard but also to humanize him more.
-
... and all movie sites last week
-
on several other sites.
-
posted here in this thread, you dickheads.
-
... I mean, honestly, what else you expect from folks who've made rush to post 'FIRST' on every talkback a pilgrimage? Aint it obvious it doesn't matter what you do as long as you do it first? First is the new best.
-
Anything that covers Rourke's bad plastic surgery face is an improvement in my book. His face totally worked for the character in THE WRESTLER but for this, facelifts and hair extensions are a distraction.
-
There's no excuse for "Somehow it feel through the cracks here, but is interested (and unreported on our site to date) all the same..."

Garry Shandling's costume in IRON MAN 2! CLICK HERE!

and even if he's been in the book why are we getting a second-tier villain like this for only the first sequel?

Still after the 1st film the sequel gets an easy ride until I see it.
-
Still after the 1st film the sequel gets an easy ride until I see it.
-
..almost looks like it was designed by the guys who worked on the Dark Sector and [Prototype]games. eventually Rouke's character will become The Crimson Dynamo. Two Villians in One!
-
Chewbacca_Khan, you totally missed the irony of your complaint didn't you? Since, y'know, Iron Man was a second tier superhero the general audience hadn't a clue about. Maybe Favreau and crew can ellevate Whiplash, which may in turn give the comic character some steam.
-
i have a bad feeling about this sequel...
-
with a whip
-
we will be lucky if that is the final version; it's obviously better than one we've seen in the stills... and why is everyone complaining about the 'exposed' areas? the original comic character only had the whip and no armor...

by gibsonusa returns
-
Of course Whiplash can use his whips to deflect incoming projectiles. Let's see him deflect an EXPLOSION as Tony shoots one of those tank-busting mini-missiles at the ground in front of him. Explosion/shock wave should knock Whiplash off his feet, leaving him an easy target. Or, have Tony in front, War Machine in back ... and then bring in some gumby with a pistol to take Whiplash out from the side while he's using his whips front/back. Whiplash was meant to be a mafia enforcer, and against normal people with no powers, he's very dangerous. Aginst a super of Iron Man's power level? Not a hope.
-
Wow that's a nice ass picture. I can see it being the final piece. why not? the cartoon version was garbage!
-
is why in the hell AICN sold ad space to the COS? I have lost what little respect I may have had left for this site.
