UPDATED! Contest for Chicago EXTRACT screening with writer-director Mike Judge Q&A is now closed!!!
UPDATED! Hey everyone. We've had more than 300 entries (representing 600 seat requests) for about 250 seats in less than 12 hours. The response was, not surprisingly, overwhelming, so I'm closing out the contest and will begin the process of selecting winners Wednesday and Thursday. Look for the list of winners by Friday, and look for a new contest in the next couple of days for another film next week that I'm equally excited about. Stay tuned!
Hey, folks. Capone in Chicago here.
It can never be a bad thing when writer-director Mike Judge has a new film on the horizon. His ability to capture the zeitgeist of whatever corner of the universe still amazes me, whether it be the dumbing down of youth culture ("Beavis and Butt-Head") or America (IDIOCRACY); the rage-inducing world of corporate America (OFFICE SPACE); or the everyday trials and tribulations of living in Texas ("King of the Hill"). Judge also runs THE ANIMATION SHOW, a great touring showcase for some of the planet's best new animated shorts and one I never miss when it comes through town. His latest film is EXTRACT, and it shows us Judge's view of multiple states of existence, including monotonous factory work, marital bliss, stoner culture, and litigation-crazed America. It's also a funny-as-fuck movie that opens September 4, and stars Jason Bateman, Mila Kunis, Kristen Wiig, J.K. Simmons, Clifton Collins Jr., Gene Simmons, and Ben Affleck in the funniest non-Kevin Smith role he's ever had.
Oh, and did I mention we're not only screening EXTRACT in Chicago, but we've got Mike Judge joining us for a Q&A following the film? Well, we are and we do.
The exclusive AICN screening of EXTRACT takes place Monday, August 31 at 7:00 pm at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners).
Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "EXTRACT THIS!" In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): What is your favorite film about the miseries of the workplace? I'm only looking for a title folks, but you can feel free to justify your choice, just keep your answers BRIEF--50 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit).
Winners will receive an email from me soon with all the screening details. I may not keep this contest open longer than 24 hours, because we expect this one to fill up fast. Good luck, everyone! Hope to see you there. And come prepared to ask Mike Judge whatever you'd like.

Have fun, Chicagoans-- you spoiled, lucky bastages. Who knew living in NYC would be such a desolate experience? (sigh)

For anyone who has worked in retail (I worked at a video store), it's a perfect reflection of how things were - the employees, the customers, the bullshit... I love that flick. Totally underrated.
-
...and I thought the best days of summer screenings were over. Judge in town! The movie that's going to put him back on the map! Entry submitted!

I haven't gotten into any of these since Pineapple Express way back when... And every time I enter I'm sure I have the best choice. Hopefully this time I can pull it out...

It will fuck your eye balls!

I really wanted to like Idiocracy, but it just didn't work well for me. Office Space is still genius, even if parts of it are a bit dated, now.
