We're Giving Away Two WORLD'S GREATEST DAD Posters Signed By Bobcat Goldthwait And Robin Williams!

Published at:  Aug 24, 2009 12:23:36 PM CDT

Beaks here...

Hey guys! Sorry for the late announcement, but I didn't get around to emailing the winners on Saturday, so I wanted to give them a day or two to confirm/give me their mailing addresses. And the winners are...

John Chasse
Jonathan Rice

Congratulations! And thanks to everyone for their interest. I hope you dig this film as much as I did.

If you're a fan of pitch black comedy, you need to get out to a theater this weekend and check out Bobcat Goldthwait's ruthlessly funny WORLD'S GREATEST DAD. The film stars Robin Williams as Lance Clayton, a high school poetry teacher who's on the verge of giving up on his dream of becoming a rich and critically-acclaimed novelist. This would perhaps be palatable if his family life were even the least bit rewarding; unfortunately, he's a single father raising a bratty teenager who's into scat porn and autoerotic asphyxiation.

To assure maximum impact, don't go hunting for more information on Goldthwait's film. Just go see it. I can't guarantee that all of you will like it, but I'm 100% confident that those of you with a taste for incredibly dark and cynical material are going to savor every nasty moment. It's like a Todd Solondz film with empathy. We've still a few months to go, but I'm beginning to think this film is a lock for my 2009 top ten list.

To help promote WORLD'S GREATEST DAD's August 21st limited release (it opens in NYC this weekend and rolls out across the country starting next weekend), we're giving away two posters signed by writer-director Bobcat Goldthwait and star Robin Williams. Want one? All you have to do is shoot me an email with the subject header "WORLD'S GREATEST DAD Poster" before 5:00 PM Pacific tomorrow (Friday, August 21st). I'll update this article tomorrow with the two winners' names.

Not sure if this is your type of movie? Check out the trailer here.

Nor does there seem to be a monologue about smoking weed. There does seem to be the requisite amount of masturbation humor, but without that idiotic frat-house "charm" of the Vince Vaughn set. To be honest, this looks like one of the first original comedies in a while, something I would not have expected from Robin Williams.

How underwhelming. I'd use it to wipe my arse, but I'm sure some moron on ebay would part with actual money for it.

Robin Williams is like the antidote to comedy. His presence sucks the mirth out of any film.

Caught this movie on Dish Network and almost pissed myself laughing. The stuff that comes out of the Daryl "Spy Kid" Sabara's mouth would make Howard Stern blush. Yes, this is a movie. And an amazing one at that. Robin Williams is amazing in this rich and dark comedy. All of you who think that Robin Williams is garbage need to do something. I'm not sure what that is exactly, but something. Big ups to Beaks on this one.

    by anonymous_bitch

You'll be glad you did. I can say with fevered certainty that nearly every Talkbacker on these boards can identify with Robin Williams' son Kyle. I believe Bobcat Goldthwait has mis-titled his film. It sounds like Disney family fare, when it's anything but. It's rancid and dark and I mean that in a good way. You people who are denigrating Bobcat Goldthwait now will be licking his ballsack after seeing this film.

Just saw it on the Dish. Definitely not what I expected, but pretty damn funny. Robin Williams actually plays it pretty low-key and nails it. Dark as dark comedy gets, you'll be surprised at some of the things out of the characters' mouths. Worth a rental/PPV purchase.

By the way - if you want to know how an interview is supposed to be done read Quint's Terry Gilliam piece. Now THAT man knows how to do an interesting interview that isn't just sucking up to the star. You could learn from him (if your brain wasn't just a crumpled up raisin).

This is NOT a Dish TV PPV film. This is a movie probably distributed by Magnolia Films, which is owned by HD Net. They sometimes have a preview of the movie on HD Net prior to the theatrical release. They did this with Humboldt County, which was great, Special, which I wasn't a huge fan of, and Yonker's Joe, which was not bad. This is a proper theatrical movie, it just got a sneak peak for HD Net subscribers. I just wish I had known the sneak peak was happening....lol

This is going to be another one of those non-hilarious and totally arduous Williams comedies like "death to smoochy" "Toys" "RV."
Nothing says comedy gold like getting coated with blue shit from an RV. That alone dares the academy not to give it an Oscar.

movie hurt by 4 long musical montages

    by awepittance

otherwise i found it very funny, the best part about it was the asshole son, he died too soon into the movie. And whats with indie comedies these days having such long musical time waster scenes? it really does not help a film, the film would feel tighter and less lazy if it were not for the 3rd or 4th musical montage.

    by jessemay

Has anyone here seen his work on "The Larry Sanders Show"? I think Garry Shandlings trust in Bobcat is indicative of Bob's talent, and the talent which Garry invested in him, since he did cast him in the best sitcom ever written. Watch your TV, people: "Arrested Development", "Sit Down, Shut Up", "Deadwood", and "The Larry Sanders Show"...don't waste your time with "lost" or "everybody loves raymond". There are better shows writ by better authors. Anyway, I hope all you AICN talkbackers are well.

    by brodiebruce_405

This has gotta be Williams' best performance on film ever, for what it's worth.

The movie (which Bobcat refers to as a Wes Anderson rip off) feels most like a Todd Solondz movie. It's funny, it's got the rip off shot from "Lost in Translation", the gratuitous zombie movie references like American Beauty had (this time its Night of the Living Dead). It's just funnier. Robin Williams carries the whole movie and it's truly a great performance, and the Spy Kids guy is no slouch neither, being probably the most unlikeable movie character since Frank Booth. (Overstatement?)

Plus it was fun to hear Robin Williams quote Simon Pegg and namecheck him.

That's about if not more surprising than finding out he banged AND married Nikki Cox.
