We're Giving Away Two WORLD'S GREATEST DAD Posters Signed By Bobcat Goldthwait And Robin Williams!
Beaks here...
Hey guys! Sorry for the late announcement, but I didn't get around to emailing the winners on Saturday, so I wanted to give them a day or two to confirm/give me their mailing addresses. And the winners are...
John Chasse
Jonathan Rice
Congratulations! And thanks to everyone for their interest. I hope you dig this film as much as I did.

If you're a fan of pitch black comedy, you need to get out to a theater this weekend and check out Bobcat Goldthwait's ruthlessly funny WORLD'S GREATEST DAD. The film stars Robin Williams as Lance Clayton, a high school poetry teacher who's on the verge of giving up on his dream of becoming a rich and critically-acclaimed novelist. This would perhaps be palatable if his family life were even the least bit rewarding; unfortunately, he's a single father raising a bratty teenager who's into scat porn and autoerotic asphyxiation.
To assure maximum impact, don't go hunting for more information on Goldthwait's film. Just go see it. I can't guarantee that all of you will like it, but I'm 100% confident that those of you with a taste for incredibly dark and cynical material are going to savor every nasty moment. It's like a Todd Solondz film with empathy. We've still a few months to go, but I'm beginning to think this film is a lock for my 2009 top ten list.
To help promote WORLD'S GREATEST DAD's August 21st limited release (it opens in NYC this weekend and rolls out across the country starting next weekend), we're giving away two posters signed by writer-director Bobcat Goldthwait and star Robin Williams. Want one? All you have to do is shoot me an email with the subject header "WORLD'S GREATEST DAD Poster" before 5:00 PM Pacific tomorrow (Friday, August 21st). I'll update this article tomorrow with the two winners' names.
Not sure if this is your type of movie? Check out the trailer here.

Wasn't it about a woman who admits she once blew a dog? Was that actually good?
-
Will he be in drags in this one too?
-
Robin Williams is poison to any movie.
-
Where the hell did this come from?
-
Sleeping dogs lie, was a pretty good film. An interesting sort of rom com. Its like a movie you'd see on Comedy Central but its pretty funny.
-
And he mentioned how whenever anyone hears that he is directing movies their first thought is, "Isn't he dead". HAhahaha. This actually looks very good. I like Robin but he does get fucking annoying at times.
-
Its got the kid from Spy Kids.
-
Revolutionary This movie will be EPIC, like Dreaming with your eyes open and Photoreal... FUCK YEAH World's Greatest Dad Fucking your eyeballs 2009
-
Okay, I may need to check this out now.
-
From the bad "Married With Children"-rip off sitcom? She was smoking hot.
-
I'd get it ready to be on the on the safe side
-
I WAS HOPING TO MAKE SOME MONEY OFF OF IT.

TREE OF LIFE- FUCKING YOUR BUTTHOLE IN 2009

R-Rated comedy without Seth Rogen? Has somebody notified Apatow?
by yackbacker
I liked the trailer, and I really liked the poetry class scene on Apple's site. I am digging this so far.

I will see this because there are no self-depricating Jew jokes
by yackbacker
Nor does there seem to be a monologue about smoking weed. There does seem to be the requisite amount of masturbation humor, but without that idiotic frat-house "charm" of the Vince Vaughn set. To be honest, this looks like one of the first original comedies in a while, something I would not have expected from Robin Williams.
-
How underwhelming. I'd use it to wipe my arse, but I'm sure some moron on ebay would part with actual money for it.
Robin Williams is like the antidote to comedy. His presence sucks the mirth out of any film. -
He sucks AND blows.
-
I must be in the minority, as I find Robin Williams to be pretty damned funny. Now he has made some utter shit, like RV, but he has done some great stuff. I laughed my ass off watching his Live on Broadway special.

I will say this- it's gross that Williams love interest is

my age. Seriously, was Marcia Gay Harden not available?

Remember when they gave away Catwoman swag at a Butt-Numb-A-Thon?
-
Caught this movie on Dish Network and almost pissed myself laughing. The stuff that comes out of the Daryl "Spy Kid" Sabara's mouth would make Howard Stern blush. The poster for the movie is actually a genius piece of "mis-marketing". It screams fluffy Disney piece o shit family flick but I would love to be a fly on the wall when somebody takes their kid to this on a Saturday afternoon by mistake!!!
-
Yes, this is a movie. And an amazing one at that. Robin Williams is amazing in this rich and dark comedy. All of you who think that Robin Williams is garbage need to do something. I'm not sure what that is exactly, but something. Big ups to Beaks on this one.
-
That poster is a work of mad genius. With Robin Williams' name and those goofy, toppling block letters, I actually dismissed this as some shitty family film.

I think half the budget went towards shaving Williams' chest
by badmrwonka
movie looks hilarious though, I'm in...

You'll be glad you did. I can say with fevered certainty that nearly every Talkbacker on these boards can identify with Robin Williams' son Kyle. I believe Bobcat Goldthwait has mis-titled his film. It sounds like Disney family fare, when it's anything but. It's rancid and dark and I mean that in a good way. You people who are denigrating Bobcat Goldthwait now will be licking his ballsack after seeing this film. -

There's More Than One "Robin Williams Is A Terrible Father" movi
by stryder
So this is the "good one" vs. "the one with John Travolta" then...
-
It was funny. And this isn't a "Robin Williams is a horrible dad" movie. He's a good dad in the film, his son is just a royal piece of shit (one of the best teen antagonists ever put to film).
-
I would agree that you should go into this one blind. This one is probably more easily damaged by spoilers than most. I would expect most on this site to enjoy the movie, even the ones that think they will hate it because of the star or the director.
-
that this will maintain a cult following for a long time and those posters could wind up being valuable.
-
What a wonderful line. I saw this movie yesterday.
This is the best movie I have seen this year.
Go see this movie. -
Just saw it on the Dish. Definitely not what I expected, but pretty damn funny. Robin Williams actually plays it pretty low-key and nails it. Dark as dark comedy gets, you'll be surprised at some of the things out of the characters' mouths. Worth a rental/PPV purchase.

I never saw anything funny about Robin Williams.

-
You did great stuff with D.Chappelle. I always loved your feud with Sam Kinison. R.I.P.
-
wasn't HDNET showing the movie for free?...
-
Pushing for a Robin Williams comedy now you hack? Terrible.
By the way - if you want to know how an interview is supposed to be done read Quint's Terry Gilliam piece. Now THAT man knows how to do an interesting interview that isn't just sucking up to the star. You could learn from him (if your brain wasn't just a crumpled up raisin). -
Shakes The Clown, Sleeping Dogs Lie, World's Greatest Dad.....this dude makes some good f'ed up films. I hope he get's to make his T.V. show "Chimp Rape"----take a guy, smear his asshole with menstrual fluid and put him in a cage with a bunch of chimps....but here's the best part, they don't KNOW we're taping it!!
-
amazing dark comedy...Best Robin Williams movie since Garp.
-
This is NOT a Dish TV PPV film. This is a movie probably distributed by Magnolia Films, which is owned by HD Net. They sometimes have a preview of the movie on HD Net prior to the theatrical release. They did this with Humboldt County, which was great, Special, which I wasn't a huge fan of, and Yonker's Joe, which was not bad. This is a proper theatrical movie, it just got a sneak peak for HD Net subscribers. I just wish I had known the sneak peak was happening....lol
-
Gee, I've never seen that before. Oh yeah wait, every piece of crap standup comedy he's done.
-
I wouldn't say his stand up is dark and vulgar. Sure, it's vulgar, but dark? I'm just happy to see he hasn't made another horrifying "family comedy".
-
This is going to be another one of those non-hilarious and totally arduous Williams comedies like "death to smoochy" "Toys" "RV."
Nothing says comedy gold like getting coated with blue shit from an RV. That alone dares the academy not to give it an Oscar.
-
Holy fucking shit!
-
otherwise i found it very funny, the best part about it was the asshole son, he died too soon into the movie. And whats with indie comedies these days having such long musical time waster scenes? it really does not help a film, the film would feel tighter and less lazy if it were not for the 3rd or 4th musical montage.
-
the movie is like 1/10th as vile as say a todd solenz movie like Happiness. don't buy into the hype if you watch a lot of movies nothing in this movie will shock you.
-
from Nirvana and Flipper.
-
Has anyone here seen his work on "The Larry Sanders Show"? I think Garry Shandlings trust in Bobcat is indicative of Bob's talent, and the talent which Garry invested in him, since he did cast him in the best sitcom ever written. Watch your TV, people: "Arrested Development", "Sit Down, Shut Up", "Deadwood", and "The Larry Sanders Show"...don't waste your time with "lost" or "everybody loves raymond". There are better shows writ by better authors. Anyway, I hope all you AICN talkbackers are well.
-
This has gotta be Williams' best performance on film ever, for what it's worth.
The movie (which Bobcat refers to as a Wes Anderson rip off) feels most like a Todd Solondz movie. It's funny, it's got the rip off shot from "Lost in Translation", the gratuitous zombie movie references like American Beauty had (this time its Night of the Living Dead). It's just funnier. Robin Williams carries the whole movie and it's truly a great performance, and the Spy Kids guy is no slouch neither, being probably the most unlikeable movie character since Frank Booth. (Overstatement?)
Plus it was fun to hear Robin Williams quote Simon Pegg and namecheck him.
-
dude your 'tree of life' shtick is old and played out. give it up.
-
i hope this does not keep me from winning now
-
I thought you were holding off until a second person entered the contest after me, but now I know at least two others give a shit!
BTW this movie deserves a lot better. But then again, it's 2009, the year Avatar is gonna flop hard. -
Maybe I won. Really. Maybe someone stole my identity in order to receive this prize. Please.
-
That's about if not more surprising than finding out he banged AND married Nikki Cox. How he got Robin Williams has me scratching my head considering his last (that I know of) creative effort was Shakes the Clown either means Bobcat has stepped up his game since Shakes or Robin has fallen off his old lady cross dressing rocker.
-
That has to be a good sign for it, right.....RIGHT?! ;)
-
They're old friends Bobcat and Robin. Also, if you've seen Shakes the Clown, Robin williams is in that movie.
-
Iam staying clear of any contest or ticket giveaways that have anything to do with Beaks from now on. Ten to one he just gave these to his friends or kept them himself.
he says oh i am going to announce tomorrow on friday who won, then 4 days latter after people ask because he didnt update like he said he would he finally chimes in with oh sorry i didnt blah blah blah. whatever man its pretty sad when a person can not even follow through om something as simple as a contest of giving out tickets to a screening. -
All you have to do is shoot me an email with the subject header "WORLD'S GREATEST DAD Poster" before 5:00 PM Pacific tomorrow (Friday, August 21st). I'll update this article tomorrow with the two winners' names.
