If you can't wait for the IMAX AVATAR footage or trailer...
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I know there's a fervor out there for this neat-o IMAX AVATAR presentation going on in theaters all across the country Friday. The AVATAR trailer is also supposed to hit soon and since we're still a couple of days out at the very least I find it amusing that this trailer is out already.
Now I've seen the Comic-Con footage and this trailer seems to be using earlier renders than what was shown in San Diego. What do you folks think?

The IMAX here in Norn Iron only played bloody kids films, went with my 2 wee cousins to some shite and all the kids in it were too busy spasing out on sugar to even notice the film!......This what does my head in, Cameron is telling everyone how you have to see it in an IMAX, 3-D, Super-Duper big ass Corporate Cinema. First thing, not everyone is lucky enough to have one on their doorstep, and 2nd, I still like going to my local Fleapit to see new films. OK, it might not have 3-D screen or whatever new gimmick they are currently peddling, but the sound in it makes the whole place reverberates and has got character by the bucket load. This is why Cameron and Lucas are wrong to say that 3-D, IMAX is the way of the future and only in those cinemas will their films be played. Studios will never allow them to do this as they want the films played in as many cinemas as possible, irrelevant of what technology they have.

Harry Potter will be the highest grossing film released in 2009 that is for sure. Box office numbers do not mean quality, and I just hope that Avatar is of a high quality in terms of story, script, acting, effects- the whole thing- the films that changed the face of cinema (Star Wars, Jurassic Park etc) were surrounded by lots of hype and big event movies- but the hyperbole did not underline that they would change things forever. This is the pressure on that film, and they should never have gone in that direction in the first place... -

I saw seven minutes at the London Moviecon last Sunday. Two scenes, One with Stephen Lang giving his troops a pep talk and the other with Jake, in his Avatar form, running from a rhino type beast.
Bottom Line: They've produced some very, very good cgi, but it is still noticably animated. If they'd told us it was a Pixar film that starred a bunch of blue cats I would have believed them. So, on the strength of this footage, photorealism is still a way off. Set your expecatations just a little lower. -

So I did and was taken to a screen to reselect my scheduled time. I noticed taht at my IMAX, the show I was scheduled for at 7:15 was still there and reselected it. But the 6 O'Clock show was cancelled, and there were 2 new times added both at 8 O'Clock!
I RSVP'd back to fox and got a new email immediatedly with a new confirmation number with the statement:

This happened just a minute ago! The site warns that some e-mail confirmations will take up to 2 hours if you do this when there's a lot of traffic on their system. -

I've come from 4 months in the future to warn you all about 2 things....

And two, Avatar totally sucks! -
If you got two tickets you have one to sell. If a friend got two tickets to the same showing then together you would have two tickets to sell. Tickets to multiple showings, etc. etc. etc. It's very easy to get around the photo ID requirement if you really want to sell the tickets. You escort them in and say "have a nice time, see you never". But I do wonder if ebay will offer their usual buyers protection for something like this? Was there a legal disclaimer anywhere along the line during the first ticket getting process? Or rather, did anybody read it? If there was one and it said tickets were non-transferable and/or not to be sold it's possible that some unscrupulous folks could sell their second set of tickets without repercussion. More good times with Avatar! lol

I'm confused... I haven't been on here in a while, so I just assumed the Avatar trailer was playing before all copies of D9. Is that true? Because I just saw the trailer at the Pacific Beach All Cities Stadium 16 (long name, I know) in El Segundo, CA. I thought it looked absolutely fucking beautiful and amazing and they showed A LOT of footage. If that indeed was some weird sneak peek that nobody is aware of yet, then i would have taken fucking notes and sent in a scoop!

Sometimes working at the theater has its perks. Today we received our digital copy of the 3D Avatar trailer.
Glorious.
I ran it several times tonight. First thing that hits you is how great the 3D is. Most trailer 3D kinda sucks, makes your eyes hurt a little. Not this one. Perfect. 3D. Awesomeness.
Best I can recall:
We see shots of Sam Worthington descending to the planet in a space shuttle. Sam disembarking in a wheelchair, wearing a breather. All the humans are wearing breathers.
A soldier in an exoskeleton suit rather like Sigourney Weaver's power lifter in Aliens, but this one has guns.
Sam meets the alien he'll soon inhabit.
Sam hooked up to machines that will transfer his mind into the alien avatar.
Sam as the alien getting up off the hospital table, says "This is great!"
Some shots of the planet with the floating rock formations. Don't get to see any of the bioluminescence.
Alien Sam being rescued by a female native. She's using a bow and arrow against a giant version of that green thing Obi Wan rode in Ep. II.
