I am – Hercules!!
ABC has given a pilot commitment for a proposed new weekly series based on Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” thewrap.com reports exclusively.
The novel’s “Slaughterhoue Five”-like premise follows a man whose genetic disorder causes him to become unstuck in time.
The movie version with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams opened Friday. “Friends” creator Marta Kaufman is behind the series version.

Sigh.
-
... when it was called Journeyman (which was awesome, but a gigantic TTW rip-off).
-
My first post ever on this site was thisclose to being a first post. Oh well.
-
Actually, what I really want is a second season but I'll settle for the lesser of two improbabilities.
-
That sounds more like what the show really is.
-
Least they still have Lost on. <p> Will this be like the Mr. and Mrs. Smith pilot and go nowhere?I was alittle curious of that just because of Jordana Brewster. <p> I can't believe the Witches of Eastwick got this far along.A show about three witches... how original.
-
. . .the book was quite good. Not really sci-fi, though. The time travel is just sort of an interesting plot device in a "relationship story" (hence "The Time Traveler's Wife" not "The Story of the Time Traveler.") Can't really see it as a weekly series, though.
-
Something with a canned studio audience and bad sets and 3 cameras and a wacky neighbor. Do it ABC!
-
Im sorry fellow talkbackers...that was no good
-
That show was fucking awesome, i wish we would get it on bluray soon<P>but that said, Why does ABC think this will work..Journeyman never got the ratings (hense why NBC cancelled it) and the time travellers wife opend up last weekend to bad reviews and a pretty crapy box office total<P>But hey, if thats ABC's logic in what they think works, maybe next season we'll get street fighter: Chun Li series and a sliders knock off?

that it is closer to "The Time Traveler's Wife" than "Quantum Leap", seeing as how he had a wife and would return to her in the present. "Quantum Leap" is more like "The Time Traveler's Holographic Buddy Who Lives in the Present While The Time Traveler Is Stuck In The Past And They Are Never Really In The Same Place Together". Although "Journeyman" had a touch of "Quantum Leap" with the idea of "making right what once went wrong".
-
They should totally bring back Time Trax.
-
Making a tv series of this is a waste of money. All it will do is trivialize the story and remove all the emotional impact. It'll end up like "Ghost Whisperer" or some other vanilla housewife-fodder.
-
They're quite different. For starters, Journeyman did indeed return home between each trip to the past, and much of the episodes was about dealing with the impact of his repeated absences from modern times and how his loved ones dealt with the situation as it was about his actual journeys to the past. Second, the man in question retained his own body on every trip - necessitating that he be careful as to who sees him or captures his image while he time-travels.
-
I weep for Hollywood, I really do.
-
Isn't anyone grossed out by the fact that the Eric Bana's character seduces a little girl and then fucks her as an adult. Maybe it's just me. And on that topic, what happens as he disappears while he's doing her?
-
Now that would be cool..ABC should totally do that, theres no way it would fail
-
They'll make it precious, I'm sure.
-
i'll watch the show. my wife definitely will.
-
A time-traveling chick flick show?
-
PIMPIN ACROSS TIME... You could pimp a cave woman to Caesar... or pimp Kim Kardashian to Xerxes... or green alien bitches to us here in the present!

i mean really why all the woman shows..don;t thy know women are stupid?
-
does this sound mysteriously like JOURNEYMAN or what ? man who disappears in time for unknown amounts of time, wife at home...would be cool if it was like journeyman, any show focusing on the wife and what she does while her husband is traveling would suck major hairy monkey balls....just like army wives or those annoying "real houswives" show.... i dont care about crap like that..i say fuck em, theyre sad...we dont care.
-
James Marsters is going to be joining Caprica for at least 3 episodes. C'mon, Herc, you know you can't resist posting about this!
-
Doesn't he also change the future when he goes back in the past?? He should be fucking other chicks or killing bad guys. Fucking stupid premise of a show!
-
This sounds like a show that was cancelled called JOURNEY MAN! Why hasn't anyone said anything about th- oh wait.. .OH WAIT SOMEONE EVEN MADE THIS JOKE ALREADY! okay but seriously... BRING BACK VOYAGERS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2rz7bMeDTA
-
Weep for joy as he introduces himself to the six year old girl who will become his wife, and not get squicked out at all as he starts grooming her. <p> This show was brought to you by NAMGLA...
-
or read the book, but from what I've heard the film isn't very good... I have many friends who have read the book, however, and its supposedly very, very good and quite heartbreaking. I might have to read it myself sometime, if I ever feel like a good cry. I hope the series can do a better job pleasing the fans, than the movie.
-
"Will most men hate it?" "Yep" "Greenlighted!"
-
I already KNOW how THIS shit ends.
-
I miss that show and when I saw this news on another site, I said the same thing: "Screw this, bring back Journeyman instead." And to those who had not seen it, Journeyman was not a Quantum Leap rip-off, the concept is similar on the surface, but it was really more of an ensemble show about how this guy and his family deal with the fact he travels in time.
-
Chick falls for guy that literally cannot stay with her. Chick gets mad at guy even though she knows she shouldn't. Chick stupid.
-
Vasquez is the type of sci-fi chick I like: Let's rock!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Also, isn't the guy naked every time he time-travels?
-
It could work as a more episodic narrative. But, I'd totally rather have another season of Journeyman, hell, even the Journeyman DVD over this crap.
-
'Man come unstuck in time. . . . ' Anyone? Hooo booy!
-
Nuff said. JOURNEYMAN!!!!!
-
We KNOW what happens to the character. The fucking MOVIE tells us the beginning, middle, and end of the saga of the couple in the book. WHY THE FUCK do we want four or five seasons of an unending, bore-you-to-tears fucking Act II WHEN WE KNOW HOW THE WHOLE STORY FUCKING ENDS??<P> Hollywood execs are officially now so fucking STUPID that they don't understand Rule 1 to plotting a story - BEGINNING. MIDDLE. END. Did NOBODY fucking learn ANYTHING from the mess that was George Lucas' attempt at an entire trilogy of Act IIs??<P> YOU CREATIVELY BANKRUPT, USELESS MAN-HATING ABC MOTHERFUCKERS!! AAARRGHHHH!!!<P> **Beats head against wall until it goes away**
-
REPLAY did THE TIME TRAVELLER'S WIFE, but with emphasis on BOTH perspectives - male AND female - and ruminated on materialism, spirituality, fate, destiny, the role of divinity in the universe - it got a LOT more philosophy out of its concept. I do think TTTW had more to offer in the way of emotional involvement, but damn if REPLAY didn't have a killer hook, a great concept a resolution that ACTUALLY MADE SENSE, and left you fully satisfied, intellectually and spiritually. One of the greatest SF books I've ever read.<P> Ah. THAT'S why Hollywood hasn't fucked it up yet. It's too smart for them to fully understand...
-
This is what Journeyman fucking was, assholes. Only not fucking SHIT! ABC must know they fucked up.
-
... to free up an hour for a rehash of (dramatic music) The Time Tunnel!
-
Ray Gamma sez... "Making a tv series of this is a waste of money. All it will do is trivialize the story and remove all the emotional impact."<p> <p> Just like what happened when they made a TV series based on the film M*A*S*H...
-
Journeyman was one of my favorite shows.. If this is anything like it, I'll have to check it out. I guess I should see the movie first, huh.
-
Man who travels through time and arrive naked?<p> <p> Terminator anyone?<p> <p> Man who travels within his own lifetime?<p> <p> Quantum Leap anyone?<p> <p> Man who comes back to his family after traveling through time?<p> <p> Journeyman anyone?<p> <p> Why don't they just go and make a TV series version of St. Elmo's Fire. Oh, that's right. They are...
-
Heck so are Doc Brown and Marty McFly...
-
their new series all sound like shite.
-
Also, I love Defying Gravity. I mean, it's terrible. But it's so entertaining. Every week I anticipate Ron Livingston's nonsensical opening voiceover. "There are a lot of doors in this world. Doors with handles. You open one, another closes. So many handles and doors. My father told me that doors need handles otherwise you couldn't open them. I guess he was right in a way. That's pops for you, he was always a practical man, albeit an abusive drunk. You can't know what's behind a door until you open it. With a handle." And then there's a problem with the spaceship, which means we get to discover one of the crew members slept with one of the other crew members! And that somehow solves it!
-
Replay is awesome. I've been waiting on a film version for years. Excellent book.
-
I actually picked that book up after seeing it recommended in a Time Traveler's Wife talkback a few months back. Totally blew me away. Fantastic book, though in movie form I guess it could be difficult avoiding it seeming too repetitive (as in some Replays didn't he he just kinda accept it and let it play out..). Regardless, if they could do it right that would be amazing.
-
I absolutely LOVED REPLAY - he does so much with the concept, and the resolution of it actually makes sense for once AND wraps up the story in a satisfying way. And the ending with Jeff calling Pamela to check it wasn't all in his head... Just loved it.<P> You know what's sad though? Ken Grimwood was over three-quarters of the way through a sequel to REPLAY when he died, and he'd considered it to be among the best of his works, if not THE best. There's interviews about it on the net - I'll try to find one and post a link.<P> A sequel to REPLAY. Imagine how great THAT could have been... <P> I just saw TTTW in the UK last night - and they actually got it 95% right. Ronlivingston is great as the best friend, and it goes without saying that Bana and McAdams have the chops to do this WELL - and they did - brought the emotional heart of the story front and centre and made it utterly believable. Liked the way it started to darken towards the end of the movie, too.<P> Then Bruce Joel Rubin fucks up and alters the ending.<P> **SPOILERS!!** There's this fucked-up thing in Hollywood right now where every time an adaptation of a great book/GN gets made, the better the original ending, the worse the movie one. The ending to the book is more final: she knows she'll only see him one more time, when she's older and slightly greying, and the way it happens, it breaks your heart. It's also brilliantly foreshadowed in the novel - Henry constantly questions when it'll be, will he have already died, will it be the last time he sees her... This is UTTERLY IGNORED in the movie - no foreshadowing to the ending, nothing. And the ending to the movie seems more forced - he appears to her IN THE MEADOW, NOT in her perfect house, and it's barely a year since his death. And it's left open-ended - no finality to it, no "that was definitely the last time", just the fact that he could re-appear at any time. How schmaltzy. How gooey. How fucking pointless.<P> The ending to the book finally allows Claire to grieve - that his death, to her, happens when she sees him for what they BOTH know to be the very last time. One last cruel twist of the time-travelling condition - and one last chance at farewell. The ending to what turned out to be a very good movie just blew all the goodwill it previously won from me by fucking up that perfect bittersweet ending.<P> I just expect crap from literary adaptations these days. Just look at that ridiculous ending to WATCHMEN, too, compared to the greatness of the GN. WHY CAN'T THEY JUST LEAVE IT ALONE??
-
He's in the greatness that is OFFICE SPACE. He's great in TTTW. AND he's apparently great in DEFYING GRAVITY.<P> Is there NOTHING Ron Livingston cannot do??
-
Hoo hoo, Orcus' ears picked up
-
you know it's true - the most we can expect from this is that those 13 episodes will not suck <p> -then again if they DO suck then it won't be so bad once it's cancelled...

ABC should have picked up Journeyman when they had the chance
by Turd Furgeson
NBC, like everything else they do, fucked the sheep on that one.. Great concept, good actors, kinks ironed out, show was ROLLING when those fucktards Zucker and the Temple crew cancelled it. Zucker is soooo stupid, if he was running the show back in the day, Sienfield and Friends wouldn't have made it past 7 episodes.... Fucking window licker. ABC PWNS good television, period!
-
spoilers for the ending** For the film they originally had the book from the ending where Clare sees Henry one last time as an old woman. However, some dumbass test audiences apparently didn't recognize who the old woman was supposed to be and as a result they changed it. Pretty unfortunate as that is definitely the superior ending.
