Los Angeles!! Want To Meet The Creators Of THE LOST ROOM Wednesday??

Published at:  Aug 17, 2009 2:58:38 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

One of the SciFi Channel’s biggest lost opportunities was not turning its superb 2006 miniseries “The Lost Room” into something bigger.

If you agree and want to tell somebody in person, the series’ writer-creators, Laura Harkcom and Chris Leone, will be signing their new sci-fi funnybook, “We Kill Monsters,” 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hollywood’s famed Golden Apple funnybook store (7018 Melrose Ave.).

Laura’s super cute and they’ll be handing out free donuts!

Ain’t It Cool News says of “We Kill Monsters”:

… this is one that shouldn’t be missed. It’s got a quirky EVIL DEAD meets SHAUN OF THE DEAD feel and [the debut] issue in particular has a FROM DUSK TILL DAWN story 180 degree turn that leaves you spinning. Can’t wait to see more of this series …

    by idrinkyourmilkshake

I agree....toook the chance, bought the dvd-i DUG IT! The concept can SEEM lame, but I think not! I love the idea, and love that there's many "objects" still undiscovered, and the origin of the "incident" was never unearthed.THE ONLY THING I ahted was the nerdy guy (from "IT")...but it was fairly good stuff there.

    gotta wonder WHY sc-fi/SCYFY PASSED?

    by idrinkyourmilkshake

Was it production costs vs> rating for the "mini-series"? if so, thats sad, espeically since they churn out some awful fucking shit on sci-fi

Holy crap, I just rewatched this last week...

    by jimmy_009

...and was bemoaning the fact that this wasn't turned into a series! I even looked up the writers on the net because I was again so impressed with what a great setup and story this was. I don't know who's in charge at "SyFy" but this and not picking up Firefly are the two biggest blunders this network has ever made.

A great mini-series and one of the most original stories I've ever come across. I've watched it a few times and it is still fascinating.

    I saw this on DVD

    by thegoldbergv

and I think it was cut into 5 episodes? Or it might have been 3 episodes but 2 'items' in each one, and only 1 in the last one. Not sure.

Anyway, all I remember was that the concept, casting, and first few eps were good, but the ending (and as said above) all the stuff with that guy from IT being a prophet was just hokey and lame. The bus tciket that made you appear in the middle of nowhere was cool though.

warehouse = lost room, but bad

    by brechtsky

its certainly gotten better in the last couple weeks, but its clearly an attempt to cash in on a similar premise... retro tech, old fashioned items and artifacts have powers, and from last weeks episode, a frozen in time hotel room...

    by snowpuff

This is the second time in a month.

Lost Room was great. Since SyFy didn't give them a greenlight for more projects I'd say they must have not passed the political personal litmus test that pervades this cable outlet. Certain producers get more work no matter how much their crap sucks. People like Laura and Chris are forgotten. Since I'm sure Laura and Chris will be very professional and not bash on SyFy, I'll do it for them: You are assholes, SyFy executives.

Would have been a fabulous series. Peter Krause needs the work. He's a big SNAG, but I like him anyway. (Sensitive new-age guy).

    by majereuk

Sky showed it over here a while back, and I loved it. It had such an unusual premise and a feel that was part Silent Hill, part Being John Malkovitch, and part WTF. Of course, like many other indefinable and interesting shows, that probably doomed it :/

    Warehouse vs. Lost Room

    by gislef_crow

Well, now that W13 is out there, SyFy isn't going to greenlight a LR series no matter what. But one wonders why they went with W13. LR was much lower budget. They may have had to recast, since the LR cast might have been more expensive than they wanted to pay for.

"Lost Room" was a great mini-series

    by elektralyte

Way more clever than "Warehouse 13". It's probably just as well "Lost Room" didn't get made into a series. Syfy would have just crapped it up they way they did "Eureka".

Anyone who calls a comic book a 'funnybook' is either a.)retarded or b.)living in the 50's. It's kinda degrading to comic fans jack ass!!

    by jaka

I'm really starting to like that show - it's a little different. Not sure I want the love interest thing to happen with the one customer. But I suppose if it happens that it could add a SERIOUS level of tension. Anyway, was she the Spanish woman whose hoo-haws were out for like, a minute?

The Lost Room was great, but leave it as done. Or-

    by tomonicker

Do something with it later down the line, make it like the daughter grown up, looking for her Dad, etc. The Lost Room was a nice surprise, but I think an occasional mini-series is the way to go in the future, to keep it quality and attract quality talent.

    Lost Room was great...

    by bueno_bob

I really, really enjoyed this when it aired - one of the best things Sci Fi has ever released. Very original, very intriguing concept, acted and executed perfectly. Sci Fi really fucked up by not doing anything more with it, but at least the story can stand on its own. Had Sci Fi actually ran with it as a series, they'd have probably dropped it in the middle of the season with a cliffhanger or some shit...oh well, at least we have brilliance like Boa vs. Python and Mansquito in it's place...

I cannot beileve that sci-fi was so stupid to leave this and not make it in to a regular series. it really was fantastic and if you haven't seen it watch it.

A series of mini-series, but no series

    by jbs9200

    Lost Room was great.
SciFi should have turned it into a series of mini-series or 6 episodes seasons.
Each series could have dealt with different characters and objects. No need to reuse the original characters. There were plenty of groups hunting objects at they wouldn't have run out of characters.
After a few series, characters from previous series could have interacted.

    The Lost Room was great

    by leftfoot

Lost Room had a clever brilliance about it. It obviously would have been cheaper than Warehouse minus-13. Warehouse -13 is a clumsy dumb imitation. Syfy is devolving into another dumb cable channel. First episode of W-13 I thought 'merchandising". Is it for certain Lost Room will never return? The premise is so open it could go in any direction with any characters?

    Great concept and decent execution

    by growltiger

And the cast was outstanding. Krause, Marguiles, Jacobson, Bauer, Dennis, Cho, Pollak, Fanning the Younger and on and on presented a diverse and interesting ensemble.

Although it was a neat premise I thought it collapsed under its own weight as it reached its conclusion. It did not require a big FX budget but I felt their reach could not exceed their grasp when coming up with objects and their affects.

Warehouse 13 is like Eureka, that is it is mostly harmless. They both have a goofy charm about them which keeps me interested. But The Lost Room had the potential for being compelling speculative fiction. What a missed opportunity.

Unfortunately there is no longer a SciFi channel

    by falkayn

I am very glad that they renamed it to SyFy because there isn't really any science fiction left.

But The Lost Room was one of the best things they did.
