Pauly talks about the possibility of a ROCKY VI

Published at:  Aug 19, 1999 3:33:43 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here. Looks like there is a little word about this here ROCKY VI deal. Burt Young is talking like he's pretty sure it'll happen. Ya know. Twould be cool if it's true. I'll be a ROCKY fan till the day I die. Here ya go...

Harry,

On 'Showbiz Tonight', a U.K. television programme, they showed the premiere
party of Hugh Grant's new movie 'Mickey Blue Eyes'. While there they got an
interview with Burt Young (Rocky's brother in law). He seemed sure there
would be a 'Rocky 6'.

"I'm ninety per cent sure there will be another one. Sly has asked a few us
if we're up for it, and i'm behind him. It such a huge franchise, you can't
let it die... Sly's doing a few small films now, more character films, and
he's been talking about this car film for an age. I saw him at a few F-1
meetings last year. He was there for every race. So maybe we could get it on
some time soon... I think thought the film will have to be different from the
last one. He will have to fight in the ring again, but he can do it, he's in
great shape. Hell, i'm only a few years older than him, and look at me! (he
laughs for about a year)... Oh and he has to do the training, with the music.
And a bad guy. That's all you need (He begins to laugh again)."

Despite the fact he seemed an annoying guy, he seemed pretty genuine.
'Showbiz Weekly' have put the whole transcript up on their web site.

Sly, watch the first film again

    by nordling

and realize that you got it so right the first time. Please, for the sake of all that is holy, stop. Do something else. Write something else. You talked several years ago about doing an Edgar Allen Poe biopic - I saw it on one of the talkshows. Go with that. That's a guy who should have a movie made about him. But, please, no more Rocky. Let it die. Rocky was a great film, a beautiful movie. Please, let it alone.

    Sly's F1 movie.

    by brynley

At the Hungarian Grand Prix last Sunday, Sly told ITV commentator and ex-F1 driver Martin Brundle, that his F1 project will start filming next April.
It will follow next years circus as well as using the Hungarian and Canadian F1 circuits for additional filming.

Hee Balboa, how much more braindead can you get?????

    by ellington

As if my opinion matters.....Please don't do it!! Part 5 made a full circle, Rocky Balboa was back on the streets of part 1, and as poor as he started. How the hell can he be allowed back in the ring with all that braindamage ?? There were disturbing X-ray pictures in the beginning of part 5. His son could take over, as a Rocky junior. Rocky senior could train him to be the next champ. Daddy took too much beating through the years. You can't fool the audience and pretend he's still allowed back in the ring. If you buy that, you could even bring Muhammed Ali back !! Will Smith is training to play Ali. Now, that's a movie worth making !!!

PLEASE don't make another Rocky. IF you're gonna do that, might as well make another frickin' Rambo movie, and those were awful, too. Rocky was amazing, Rocky 2 I will stand by, but after that, they are shit. Hulk Hogan, MR. T, hey, anyone remember when Rocky beat the entire Russian army? That was another great one. DDolph fucking Lundgren, what a meathead he is. Anyway, Sly was on to something with Copland, which was FANTASTIC, the height of his career as surely as Judge Dredd was the bottom (sadly). Stay away from the Rockies, stick to the more subtle, subdued Sly, because it's a Sly we love more.

    What wrong with you?

    by mandala

Are there really people out there who want to see this movie? This is almost as bad as when I heard that miramax were going to make Rambo 4 last year. Thank God that one seems to have evapourated up some producers arsehole. Even the late great Don Simpson wouldn't have considered that piece of shit.

    Reply to Talkback

  • I wonder when we will see RAMBO 4 (Harry, can't you PLEASE personally contact Bob and Harvey at Miramax and get the scoop on this film???). Rambo deserves another adventure and it would be great to see that character back on screen in the new millennium. I agree that in ROCKY 6, Rocky must go back in the ring and fight another opponent as great as Apollo, Drago and Clubber Lang. There MUST be a training scene with the training music. The audience would still eat it up to this day (people love to root for the underdog). Stallone would not be considering doing a ROCKY 6 if he didn't think it was a good idea. He has moved on to trying different things and wouldn't do another ROCKY if he didn't think he could make it as GREAT as the first one. Everyone, just wait and see how ROCKY 6 turns out (casting wise and everything). I can't wait for Sly to bring the FORMULA ONE movie to the big screen. He has been trying to get this project off the ground for a long time now. The only thing that has stopped him is that he wants everything on screen to be perfect and accurate about the sport. There are rumors that Renny Harlin will re-team with Sly to bring this race car epic to life. I really hope so. I can't wait to see GET CARTER after DETOX aka THE OUTPOST. I don't care what some of you think about them not re-making a classic. Stallone is perfect for Jack Carter. If GC is made right, it will be a KICK ASS crime noir action/thiller the same way PAYBACK was. I just wish Stallone and Universal would announce what ever happened to HUNTER and FATALIS (both sci-fi action/adventures). Both were novels written for Stallone. Maybe we will see them in the distant future...I hope. The HUNTER novel was GREAT and I'm sure the FATALIS novel will be too.

    Stallone's GET CARTER

    by abking

Eternal, you're the FUCKING MORON if you're already going to bad mouth this movie before you even see it or even hear casting. Like I said, the original is a classic but it is time for Stallone to make it into a classic of the new millennium. Why not try to re-make perfection. Do you really think Sly is going to make GET CARTER be only about explosions and killings??? Well sine you are a FUCKING IDIOT you will probably say yes. Sly and Mark Canton hired a director that has already directed a critically acclaimed movie (I think) but better yet, they hired a director that will shut the fuck up and let Sly make the movie the way it should be made. When Mel Gibson decided to re-make POINT BLANK, I'm sure you bitched about it... but guess what, he re-made POINT BLANK into a KICK ASS movie with PAYBACK. Stallone will do the same for GET CARTER. Now shut the FUCK UP and let Stallone go to work on this soon to be classic re-made for another classic.

    Rocky Vs. Rambo

    by kltpzyxmrm

IMHO, there is only one solution to the Rocky sequel issue: ROCKY VS. RAMBO. I think Sly's ego is big enough that he would dig playing double roles. Since it looks like Alien Vs. Predator or Terminator Vs. Predator or Jar Jar Vs. Predator ain't happening soon, Sly needs to hook up with ILM, digitize his bad self and let the fight begin. Definitely gotta bring Mr. T back. While we're at it, let's give bankrupt Gary "Diff'rent Strokes" Coleman a job as Mini-T. ("Whatcha talking 'bout, Rocky?") In fact, let's bring Dolph "I will crush you" Lundgren back as a Universal Boxer (half human/half MIR). Seriously, at this point, the only opponent Rocky can fight without veering into parody is George Foreman.

    What's so wrong with Rocky?

    by acappellaman

I don't know why so many of you hate Rocky so much. No, most of the movies are not masterpieces, but do they entertain? Yes! As hokey and corny as the movies are (except I and II), they're made simply to entertain Rocky fans. I'm of the same mindset as Harry - when I go into a movie, I leave all realism at the door. I try to enjoy the movie I'm watching without considering how unrealistic it might be. Yes, there are movies that I despise ANYWAY, despite going into the theatre with an open mind. I don't place the Rocky movies in that category, though. They're exciting to watch. Period. I realize that Rocky's character has been inconsistent - going from street-wise and uneducated to sophisticated and intelligent and BACK again during the series. Do I care? No! Why? Because I'm being entertained. As long as Rocky is fighting, I'll be watching. Bring on # 6!! And, as long as we're on the subject, start working on numbers 7, 8, 9, and 10 as well! LONG LIVE ROCKY!!

    Payback time...

    by powerslave

For the record, Payback was an enjoyable, but ultimately disposable movie: While I liked it as I was watching it, I had forgotten most of the film an hour later. As for 'Get Carter,' I can't comment on that, having never seen the original, but ABKing, you should really try and respect other people's opinions a little more. If you disagree, fine, that's your right, but don't curse people out just because they think differently from you. Do you talk to people like that on the street? I'd say probably not, unless you like getting stomped on. As for 'Rocky VI,' I could see it working, if they use this ending: Rocky joins the other old-timers in the WCW (Wheel-chair-wrestling), trying to get money for his latest comeback, because everybody knows the big money is in wrasslin'.He could team up with Hollywood Hogan, and they could have a tag-team deathmatch against Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago. When guest referees Mike Tyson and and Psycho Sid try to interfere, the ghosts of Apollo Creed and Burgess Meredith step in and help save the day. Stallone can then have a tearful reunion with Adrian, who is now being played by Rena Mero. Disclaimer: the above plot synopsis was (attempted) satire, and was not intended to offend anyone. But it probably will.

Do you smell what the Rock's cookin?

    by burningbroadway

I know, I know, it's a stupid subject line, but let's think about this for a second...and there will be a point.

Rocky VI comes out...who is the bad guy gonna be?

AH...let's think, what's the most popular form of sports entertainment in the World right now?

    wrestling....

who is the best damned wrestler to ever grab a microphone?

    The ROCK....

Who would make a perfect bad guy for a new Rocky film?

    Yup...you guessed it...THE ROCK.

    Why?

Because the Rock is a good actor, as long as he's being his "Rock" character...so wouldn't he be great to be the guy that Rocky has to come out of retirement to defeat so he can get the money to pay Adrian's doctor bills?

    I want opinions...

    speaking of that...

    check out http://prequels.glade.net
and answer the age old question...Who's finer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, or Jennifer Love Hewitt....

Eternal, about Get Carter; F1 and Payback...

    by abking

Donner, where else did you hear that Renny Harlin will direct FORMULA ONE? You said it is a well known fact that he will direct. I really hope this is true. Powerslave, PAYBACK is a GREAT movie. How can you say it's forgetable. The movie was just so COOL. Gibson was AWESOME as Porter. I love the way Gibson made the movie look like a noir crime movie like the original probably was. PAYBACK was a KICK ASS romp. Great story with memorable characters. (Another subject) Like someone above said (I forgot his/her name), the ROCKY movies are entertaining as hell. Stallone knows how to make a sequel work. Critics like to rip Stallone's films apart more than any other actor (with the exception of Adam Sandler) probably because he made so much ROCKY and RAMBO sequels and they kept making MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars (so did Stallone). I love all 5 ROCKY movies and I love all 3 RAMBO movies. They all KICK ASS (to me anyway). Eternal, what makes you think GET CARTER won't be made the way you want? I know Sly won't flat out play a murderer with no soul but he can still make Jack Carter the kind of character you will like. Come on, do you really think audiences would want to see Sly just kill a woman for no reason? I DON'T THINK SO (it wouldn't be good for the box-office). You think GET CARTER will be just another typical action movie but that's where I think you're DEAD WRONG. I think Stallone's GET CARTER will be a great noir action crime thriller. Do you really think after COP LAND, Sly would make GC just another "kill the bad guys, blow things up kind of movie". I THINK NOT. Sly will probably try and keep some of the magic that made the original GC a classic yet he will add his own style of filmaking. You should really wait before you say Stallone will make GC into an unbearable piece of work.

    AYRTON SENNA

    by porco

    hey..
i live in Brazil and the word here is that Stallone is not only going to direct a F1 movie.. but the press is saying that he will portrait Ayrton Senna (3 times champion), who died in that accident in 1994. I find that quite hard to believe, but it sounds CONFIRMED.
Expect appearences from Prost, Shumie, and others!!!
I've heard rumours of Banderas reprising ayrton too!!!

    For the record...

    by yar's revenge

Payback was a terrible movie. It had great potential but the story really made no sense. The ending of that movie was ridiculous. Why would Gibson's character bother letting them break two of his toes before he tricks them into going to the exploding room? And how did he know that he could struggle out of his bindings, break through the trunk and use the cell phone to call the room to trigger the explosive? This movie was total plot-convenience theatre and made me angry.

Gibson just likes to be tied up and tortured in every movie he's in (see Braveheart, Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, Thunderdome et al.). Fine. most of the flicks are good. The problem is that in this movie makes bad use of that motif.

By the way, what were we taling about? Oh, yeah. Rocky 6. Can anybody think of one GOOD reason to resurrect this has-been? He can't fight. The doctors said so. And any attempt to write around this (i.e. robot brain, bionic limbs etc.) would be what Wes Craven refers to as "bad storytelling." The only story they could do is if he plays the old video game "Punchout" and he beats Glass Joe.

    Formula One and Sly's line-up

    by abking

I think FORMULA ONE will be Stallone's next ROCKY (actually ROCKY 6 will be his next ROCKY... ha ha...dumb joke). Stallone is writing, producing and starring in this epic film about Formula One racing (either Renny Harlin or Sly himself might direct). Stallone has been going to every F1 race to make sure his film is as realistic as possible. FORMULA ONE should make Bruckheimer's DAYS OF THUNDER look tame in comparison. Stallone has a great lin-up for the future. Starting in 2000 we get THE OUTPOST aka DETOX and GET CARTER. Then in 2001, we get FORMULA ONE and ROCKY 6 (possibly). Then in 2002, we get RAMBO 4 and HUNTER (possibly). Then in 2003, we get FATALIS....I hope this is how Stallone's lin-up goes.

    Rocky will be cool

    by bigpenis911

I just love the Rocky movies. Okay it's no Shakspear, but they are just plain entertaiment at it's best. I love it when Rocky is down and out, does that Training shit with the music. It's just awesome. How can you be so against Rocky 6?
Okay Rocky 5 was a pile of dog shit, but Rocky 2,3,4, were out of their world.
Look at Rocky 4, i mean depsite the fact the plot is a bit naff, it is actually well filmed. I mean Ivan Drago, was meant to be like an invisible machine. He deliberatly never spoke to make him more like a robot. Then he kills Rockys friend. And you think Rocky is gonna be killed. Then Rocky does hsi training, with the cool music. Man, it sends shivers down your ass. And your like waiting for the fight to start, but your kept on your seat waiting. They play the Russian anthem. Then bang!
Okay, i sound really sad now. But i would love Rocky 6. But Stallone will be about 55 when he may be able to get around to it, so he may pass on it for that reason.

    RAMBO 4

    by abking

Does anyone know how to contact Miramax and find out the status on RAMBO 4??? I know they hired J.D. Zeik to write the script but nothing has been reported since. I once heard a rumor that Brian Dennahey was going to repraise his role as the sheriff from FIRST BLOOD. I think that is a cool idea. You people don't know how COOL it would be to see RAMBO back on the big screen in the new millennium kicking ass. I think it's great that Stallone will make another ROCKY and RAMBO movie in the new millennium. But before those come out, I can't wait for THE OUTPOST and GET CARTER. Those two movies should be two of Stallone's best. I can't wait to see Sly play a "tough guy" ganster in GC. Sly has been keeping a low profile for the last several months but come 2000, he will be all over the place. 2000 will mark the return of the the Sly one.

    Rocky VI

    by jsl

I think that it's now at the point where if Sly writes a Rocky VI script that he's really satisfied with, than the movie will be a go. As far as fighting, I remember reading in a magazine a few years ago that Sly does have a boxing workout to go along with his weight training. So I'm sure that even at 53 the guy can still throw a decent punch. I hope that the movie winds up being made. If Rocky does box again than the movie will get bashed by the critics. But it still can be a fun and entertaining film for die hard Stallone/Rocky fans. Plus I'm not against him coming back as a trainer either. Rocky leading another fighter to a world title fight can make for an interesting story if done right. But I have a feeling that he'll probably be back in the ring if there is a next one. I just hope that a sixth Rocky would mostly be a drama with a little fighting action added in at the end, and not an all out action movie like Rocky IV. While Rocky IV was still an entertaining film, Sly didn't give two shits about character development in it.

Hopefully Stallone's lineup will look something like this. 2000- 1. The Outpost 2. Get Carter
    2001- 1. Rocky VI 2. Formula One
    2002- 1. Hunter 2.Rambo IV(possibly)
2003 - Maybe The Yellow Handkerchief and that Ernie Popovich movie. I don't know if he's still attached to either one though.

    GET CARTER & PAYBACK

    by abking

Bosshog, why are you a complete shit for brains. I can't wait for the new GET CARTER to come out only for you to realize you LOVE it and want to beg for my forgivness. You people are so quick to bash a movie even before it's made (even before it's casted for that matter). Because you hate Stallone so much, you wont admit the man can be a good actor if he wanted to be (see COP LAND). But I forgot, you probably thought COP LAND was a action movie. Stallone's GC might not compare to the original GC as far as being a classic but who is to say that it wont be one hell of a entertaining movie to watch. Remember, Sly doesn't rush into doing just any movie these days. He makes sure when he takes a project it will be a good one (this statment cannot be proven yet because his last movie was COP LAND. So we will have to wait to see if THE OUTPOST is the great suspence/thriller I think it will be).......Regarding POINT BLANK, I never said that I saw it before. But I know I will like it if it is what spawned PAYBACK. I don't give a shit what you or others say about PAYBACK (you have the right to your opinion), the movie was AWESOME. The story, the characters, the acting, the cinematography etc. were all perfect. Stallone and Gibson took two classics and made them their own. Gibson made PAYBACK into a crowd pleaser, I'm sure Stallone will do the same foe GC. Wait and see... Powerslave, you were right. I loved when I woke-up yesterday!!!!

Rocky 6! Rocky 6!?Harry,don't say it would be cool, because it wouldn't.Just because the original is good doesn't mean the franchise will never get redundant.Look at 'Batman.' Number 4 was an unfunny and ungothic piece of crap. And Sly Stallone will be 53! It's time for him to take his place among Hollywood character players,a la Burt Reynolds. He's not a BO draw anymore, but if he plays off his image, people might mistake him for an Actor. And if he falls 'tween the cracks, that wouldn't be such a tragedy.By all accounts he's a bloated brat.

    by abking

Sly Stallone not a box-office draw anymore??? You must be joking. Once THE OUTPOST and GET CARTER come out, you will be singing a different tune. Why do you think Hollywood still pays him 20 million a movie (unless he decides to take a pay cut which he is kind enough to do these days). You people are so close minded. I once thought a ROCKY 6 was a bad idea but if Sly wants to make another, he must have some great and original ideas. This isn't the 80's where Sly would make a ROCKY because he knew it would make mega millions. The ROCKY franchise is a great dramatic movie series and Sly knows how to make them work. Why can't you people wait and see how it turns out. I know Sly will make the next ROCKY different than the others yet still as entertaining as the others. That will = lots of $$$$$$. GO FOR IT!!!

    Money, it's a gas...

    by powerslave

Stallone gets the big bucks because his movies always draw big numbers overseas. In the international market, which is so crucial to a movie's overall success, Stallone is a giant. In the last several years, most of his films have done merely average or below-average numbers here. I think (correct me if I'm wrong)his biggest grosser over here in the last little while was 'Cliffhanger.' It made about $75 million or so, if I recall. However, it was huge overseas. Same story with other Stallone vehicles, like 'Judge Dredd,' 'Daylight,' and 'Demolition Man,' to name but three. Now, before someone flames me (you know who you are), I actually own a couple of the above-mentioned movies, and I enjoy them. I like Stallone. Really.

Stallone in the U.S. and foreign

    by abking

Powerslave, CLIFFHANGER grossed 84 million domestic (you came kinda close with your 75 million guess). But you are right to a point. Stallone does get his 20 million pay based on his overseas grosses. Sly is the biggest draw in the international markets (the studios look at foriegn more than domestic these days). He more than any other star can garantee that his movies will pass the 100 million mark in the foriegn markets even if they perform poorly here. But I also think Sly gets what he gets because Hollywood thinks if Sly ever hits it big again in the U.S., imagine what the worldwide gross might be. Remember, all Stallone needs is a couple of domestic hits and he's GOD again like he used to be. I think THE OUTPOST and GET CARTER will put Stallone back on the right track.
