Thomas Lennon Tweets: Comedy Central Cancels RENO 911!!

Published at:  Aug 14, 2009 2:56:22 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

“Reno 911!” creator Thomas Lennon twittered late Thursday that comedy central had pulled the plug on “Reno 911!” after six seasons.

This will presumably give Lennon and fellow writer-star Robert Ben Garant more time to script movies like “Taxi,” “The Pacifier,” “Herbie Fully Loaded,” “Let’s Go To Prison,” “Night at the Museum,” “Reno 911! Miami,” “Balls of Fury” and “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian.”

In other cancellation news, TNT announced that the third season of “Saving Grace,” starring Holly Hunter, will be its last. The series’ final nine episodes will air next summer.

    by badmrwonka

people saying it's gone downhill, or worn out it's welcome or whatever, you don't understand SHIT. the new cast members were hilarious, and they were consistently at the top of their game.along with 30 Rock and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, it was one of the top comedies out there. it sucks that Comedy Central is cancelling it. some of Comedy Central's new shoes are damn funny, (Michael and Michael is great, Tosh.0 is WAY better than it has any right to be) but don't let Reno 911 go!here's hoping it gets picked up by another network maybe. it'd be GREAT on FX, paired with Always Sunny...my dream comedy block!!

For whatever reason, Reno 911! just made me feel happy in a way few, if any, other shows ever have. I loved the show with through all of the cast additions and changes. I would have liked to see it end (another movie?), but I think I'd be more excited about a new project than Reno relocating to another cable station.

    by boynamedsue

The fake PSA's were ridiculous and awkward, yet funny.
Reno 911 wasn't the funniest show on TV, but it was still entertaining to watch, and I will miss it. I just started watching Season 6 and was hugely disappointed to learn that they killed off Officer Garcia, easily my favorite character on there.

I don't have cable, so I just watched the show when syndicated reruns came on after "Criminal Intent" reruns. (Odd coupling.) Clem I wasn't sad to see go, but I loved Carlos's character, especially paired with Deputy Jones. And Mary Birdsong's deputy was fun, too. Good night, 911.

    by a for aristocrat

Carlos and Wendi didn't want to leave. Birdsong wanted to leave to do theater. Carlos posted on his website that he was fired by e-mail. Wendi was stoic about it but didn't want to leave either. Then after all of that they write off two very popular characters with a "they burned up in a fire" joke. Once I found out the back story it completely ruined the show for me.

    The character of Officer Garcia...

    by waylayer

... made that show more than any other single character. While the others acted like buffoons who happened to be officers, Garcia acted like an authentic police officer who happened to be a buffoon. BIG difference. And the fact that the writers (and the actor) would drop hints and reference a troubled past made his character more interesting than the others by default. He seemed grounded in at least some sort of reality.

Better dead than becoming the new CC standar...

    by darkcouncilus

Which is "Michael and Michael", dumb jock humor that lasted fresh for a week... then it fell into the same pits Reno 911 was being written to in it's last season.

Firing Carlos Alazraqui (Garcia) and Wendi McLendon-Covey (Clemmie) through e-mail was really low... and that order came from the State triad (Kerry, Lennon and Grant), who then tried to patch the hole with another member of their former group.

Last season became (as someone posted above) the Dangle & Junior show... Lennon and Garant knew their ship was sinking and wrote themselves in a better light, screw the rest of the non-State cast, right?

or "The big dude" as he was referred earlier in this TB. The show is largely improved and Ian is an improv monter. Hopefully, Poehlers show will grab him up, add matt walsh and matt besser and retitle the show UCB. Side note, adding Louis C.K. is win for Parks and Rec.

    by andy_dufresne

In the first season it was hit or miss but this season was top notch entertainment. There were a couple of episodes that completely blew me away. Truly great television. The relationships between the characters are just real. One of the only shows on TV that doesn't seem scripted in its best episodes. People behave like human beings and the cops don't have any magic tricks to make suspects confess. It's a really solid show.

    by itrainmonkeys

Ian Roberts is an amazing sketch comedian / improviser. On some Reno commentaries (before he joined the cast....but had guest spots) they talk about how good he is and how he always has a line ready to spit back at you no matter what you say to him.And I'd like to see him on Parks and Rec as well. He actually was in the first episode as one of the concerned parents at the town hall meeting....he had like one line but it was solid. I wouldn't mind seeing that character return.....or just make a new one. Anything for more Ian Roberts.
