Got $1.99 Burning A Hole In Your Pocket?? EPITAPH ONE, The Superb ‘Lost’ Episode of DOLLHOUSE, Is Now Downloadable Via Amazon!!

Published at:  Aug 12, 2009 3:59:19 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

There’s a 13th episode of “Dollhouse” that Fox never broadcast and likely never will. “Dr. Horrible” girl Felicia Day is in it. Another girl gets wet and naked when her character visits the titular facility in the year 2019 (the same year “Blade Runner” takes place!). There’s no tra-la-la title music. There’s crying and bloodshed and a little girl imperiled.

Some say it’s the best episode of “Dollhouse” yet.

I concur!!

Titled “Epitaph One,” the episode does appear on the “Dollhouse” first-season DVD and Blu-ray sets and was screened at Comic-Con.

But Comic-Con is over and DVDs and Blu-rays are expensive. If you only want to spend a $1.99 to watch “Epitaph One” right now, it apparently just became available for download on Amazon. If you want it in HD, iTunes has an HD version for $2.99.

Watched it last night on Sci-Fi Channel

    by biggerjohn

It reminded me of Firefly more than a little.

Easily the best episode- but then I thought almost all of the 'doll of the week' plots were rubbish (backed up by interesting b-stories).

Felicia Day does not get wet and naked

    by roguebot

She stays quite dry and clothed. Some other random girl takes a shower though.

It doesn't appear that iTunes or Amazon are making the show available for download in HD. Or am I missing something?

Did you get an uncut version or something? I've seen it 3 times, and I don't remember Felicia Day undressing.

Herc in Whedon related error SHOCKER

    by thegoldbergv

No naked and/or wet Felicia Day in this Herc. Saw this yesterday on UK sci-fi channel and it is awesome. Easily the best ep of the series, even if it seems like a completely different show.

That scene with Topher and Adelle was disturbing. But in a good way. You gotta love the way Joss puts his characters through the Whedon misery mill.

This was a dark, excellent, game changing ep

    by slayme

If anyone doubted the potential of Dollhouse to be a great show, this ep will put those fears to rest and leave you pumped for season 2. Can't wait to see where they go from here. Definitely one of my favorite three Dollhouse eps.

    First good ep.

    by david cloverfield

And they don't show it. Whedon still can do good TV, when he tries. Too bad he didn't try for a whole season. I'm afraid his best work is behind him. I hope I'm wrong.

    Dollhouse gets a bad rep

    by thegoldbergv

The only out-and-out bad ep was the backing singer one. Even the dead woman episode (which I didn't like too much) seems better once you've seen Epitaph One, as it introduces the idea of life after death and the implications of the Dollhouse tech. Maybe the cult one was a bit crap too, but the rest are all at least decent, and out of the 13, I'd say 5 are pretty damn good.

Fox do know that international markets are showing this ep as part of the 1st season right? So you can watch it for free ONLY if you live OUTSIDE the country where it was made. Wow. That is a very special type of retarded indeed.

So why were they climbing up the skyscraper at the end?

    by chickentonight3

Anyone have any idea why they were climbing the rope ladder up the outside of the skyscraper at the end of the ep? It caused me to raise an eyebrow and had one of my friends more than a little perturbed.

My only guess was that they didn't have the budget for a helicopter or something and the only comfort I could offer was that it could well be explained in Epitaph 2 if they were to continue directly from where they left off.

they were climbing up the skyscraper because (i) to climb downwards wouldn't have made much sense - they'd already come from that direction; (ii) climbing upwards symbolises hope and (iii) the producers obviously wanted to save the impact of the view from deWitt's office (the ruined skyscrapers) till the very last scene.

also Herc wasn't wrong about the wet girl - remember that hispanic girl who got nekkid, took a shower and then got clubbed with a torch? weirdly, though, it occurs to me that we never found out who did the clubbing...

i thought Epitaph One was the best ep yet but somehow the show still feels smaller than other Whedon shows. a lot of the lingo at the start made me think of Firefly and made me wish for more eps set in the Epitaph One time period, rather than the Dollhouse one. But i'm hopeful season 2 will continue the upwards trend...

    I don't want dollhouse S2, I want Epitaph One Season 1

    by tall_boy66

Honestly, maybe I don't even want Dollhouse Season 2. Epitaph One felt like an ending. The jumped ahead a lot, but you basically found out where everyone ended up and what happened, and it ended on a tragic yet oddly hopeful note which makes for a good ending. And now Season 2. Something about that feels off.

    Show they should have made

    by lsleelee

This is the show Joss should have made. He could have even put Eliza Dushku in it somewhere if he wanted (Although Felicia Day is a 5000x better choice to write a show around), but this is the show he should have made. The AFTER, not the BEFORE, and show us the BEFORE (the B-stories from season 1 about the dollhouse itself) in flashbacks. And FORGET the doll-of-the-week crap.

    by lsleelee

This was not at all a complicated episode of television and still people are confused?! No wonder American Idol is so popular. Jesus, every time some show gets dumbed down to the point of mediocrity, I now know who to blame. The little girl clubbed shower chick to death, moron.

@lsleelee - so i'm responsible for American Idol because i don't buy that a little girl could kill a grown women by standing in front of her wielding a torch? I agree that's probably the simplest explanation, but then what does that make you for buying it?

    by thegoldbergv

and it was obviously designed so that it COULD have been, it would be a cool send off. Now that its just a 'bonus' season finale, it'll be interesting to see how they follow this up in season 2. I mean, they've already kinda told us what happens...

    E1 not necessarily canon

    by mazzke

Whedon has said that the events of E1 are not necessarily how things are going to pan out in the Dollhouse world, that it was just one possibility. He said that the future would probably stay true to the spirit of the episode, but he wasn't going to let the particulars of the episode limit how the series develops.

    by buffywrestling

I'm just clarifing a bit but the future we saw in E1 IS going to happen but because of the nature of the cut & paste downloading process, we can't trust that it will be the whole story and not just selected truths of it. That's why Joss is saying it is canon, yet not.

    Felicia Day? Huh??

    by monkeymanreturns

Who the hell is she??? Amy Acker - that's who rocks!! How that star has not been given a tv show, I do not know. She is consistently good in everything she has done, and her talent shines! With all respect to the rest of the cast, Amy makes the show for me. Her changes from Dr. Saunders to Whiskey work beautifully, and you believe the character changes! She needs her own show! Or at least, a regular slot (rather than 'guest starring') on Dollhouse. She is signed to Happy Town - but again, one of the team, rather than the lead! Know what, I'll just say it - I love her. There. I've said it.

    by monkeymanreturns

It was an okay episode...not great...and reminded me of the Stephen King CELL premise...but some good acting...and at least we know that the show is actually going somewhere now with a proper arc, and not remaining as usual standalone episodes that mean nothing.
