Look no further than BUFFY and ANGEL. In those shows, Joss did a better PHOENIX SAGA and alternate dimension stories than Marvel ever brought to the big or small screen. See DOLLHOUSE for a badass take on DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.
See HEROES for a week ripoff of the aforementioned Marvel storylines.

Firefly was brilliant. End of. Angel was 80% genius. S5 kinda stalled for me. Watched Dollhouse 1x13. THAT should've been the Pilot. You could've launched the duelling stories (future and flashback) into a nice show about how humanity went to shit. Makes S1 look even more pointless, as the story Joss wants to tell is all set-up for the good stuff.

Golly, ya know I checked out that IMDB thing you were talking about and it turns out that Ernie Hudson, HAS been working solidly.... Like a .... Solid... uhh.. workman.. Yes, that's what I'd call him too. Like Carl Weathers, perhaps saying he's done nothing was a pretty harsh generalisation."Oz, Congo, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" yep... You should have left it at OZ, Zeddemore. the rest is garbage. As for the Crow, overrated, but I liked it.Now it wasn't that I was saying "I don't like the dude", far from it, he's simply the GHOSTBUSTER that isnt making a fucking squillion dollars, directing, producing, acting in major hollywood productions, and is therefore the first one I'd expect to pick up a role in HEROES.
PS. Not my fault you had to USE imdb to generate a list of career highlights similar in caliber to Linda Hunts resume.

Being a Baltimore detective means they are ripping off the Wire? How dumb can the hating get? I understand the thought process behind the idea "ripping off carnivale" because there will be carinval characters with powers......but even that doesn't mean that the show will be taking Carnivale storylines or using plots or anything. But claiming they are ripping off the wire because a character happens to be from the same area and the same profession as characters on that show is just ridiculous. Find another reason to spew hate.

are you three serious? Do you watch this show? The Heroes aren't going to be contending with a Fed, a Hero hunter or even a super-powered villain, but rather a Baltimore police detective? The series has never even been set in Baltimore, let alone dealt with the Baltimore police... If you don't see, coupled with the Carnivale doubling, the ridiculously outlandish parallel of aiming to up their street cred by copying cable series, then I can understand why you're defending Heroes.... Wanna bet the B'more detective is gritty, a recovering alcoholic and doesn't like to play by the book? Would that be enough for you three?

  • Heroes' stunt guest casting stopped impressing me around the end of season 2....."Hey, lets throw in Nichols but then never bring her back!" Stan Lee, the list goes on.

Well...to be fair, George Takei actually had a meaningful role on the show, as did Christopher Eccleston.

But I'm not impressed anymore....after Bryan Fuller came back only to then LEAVE at the end of last season, all is lost (okay, MAYBE he was there just to step in, set them on the right path, then go on his way; frankly I'd rather see him working on that "USS Yorktown" Star Trek spinoff than busy keeping Heroes on life support.

It was the dawning realization that, like BSG, they didn't really plan things out beyond their first season (well, for BSG, it was the first 2 seasons)

Meanwhile, I must say that I think Hudson would be a good police officer, after his work on Oz as the head of the prison and

I just think, "ho ho ho, they be ripping off The Wire cuz there's a Baltimore police officer!!!" is weak until, yes, I see more similarities. The best thing that can happen is if Chris and Snoop show up and start disappearing Hero bodies in some vacants. Don't really give a shit about guest roles. Seeing that Malcolm McDowell wanted to keep working on the show and they killed him. They probably didn't let him know he was not going to have a big part because of this whole fucking keept scripts a secert from the cast. Why the fuck does every movie/show feel a need to do that now? Especially something as dumb as Heroes where maybe a little imput from the cast would go a long way. Though seeing that Fuller has his fist up his ass he probably wouldn't care about what Malcolm McDowell has to say anyway. He just read somewhere that geeks like him. "The Heroes aren't going to be contending with a Fed, a Hero hunter or even a super-powered villain, but rather a Baltimore police detective? The series has never even been set in Baltimore, let alone dealt with the Baltimore police..."

Correct. The series hasn't been set in Baltimore. But also keep in mind that we are dealing with a traveling carnival. Meaning they could....I don't know....make a stop in Baltimore? Not really defending heroes much since I know it's gotten worse as time has gone on. I just find it ridiculous to say it's a rip-off of the Wire. I don't see how you can jump to that conclusion so quickly. You're just throwing the "rip-off" accusation out too early and you sound like you're hating on something just for the sake of hating it. A rip-off of the Wire? Are you kidding me? If this casting news also said "and Lubbock will be on the hunt for the drug lords who run the streets while dealing with his political-minded bosses and trying to put stringer bell behind bars" then maybe you'd have a leg to stand on......but declaring it a rip-off of the wire because of the location and job of a minor character is just crazy.

ok, i guess that's fair... "rip off" was probably the wrong term to use... however i do think that my second post was much more accurate. I feel that they could've picked a police detective from any city... picking a shitty city like Baltimore seems a little fishy to me, on top of the already extremely fishy Carnivale similarities. I guess I should wait to see the product they actually put out, but for me, this casting news was the last of many, many straws breaking the camel's back. I'm not "hating for the sake of hating". In fact, i regularly stayed out of hating posts for this show until Nathan died with Claire standing RIGHT THERE! that was too much... it's an abomination, the producers know it, and they're clinging to critical darlings in a vain attempt to save face. I feel a "Baltimore police detective" is step two of many of these attempts to come... and if you read the other posts, it seems i'm not the only one to see this similarity.

I try to see the show

    by series7

As a blank templet each new season. Really not much of what happened in seasons 1 and 2 were really important in 3 save for some of a relationships (like Peter and Profit being brothers). But other then that each new season starts off with all the same fucking heroes trying to figure out how to use their powers and trying to decide if Claire's dad is good or not. I though season 3 was the best actually, because it was the first time they did come out as pussy's. I hope for the next go around they keep that up.

True, they could've picked any city. Perhaps there's a reason they picked this one in particular but we won't know until the show airs or we get more info on his character. If there turns out to be no reason at all for picking Baltimore....then perhaps you're better at sniffing out bullshit than me lol. If they pick Baltimore just for the sake of Baltimore....then maybe a writer was just watching the Wire a lot recently (it could happen....Marlo was on last season - that could make someone want to check out a better show that he was on). Too many times on a talkback people just comment based on one or two bits of information and dismiss things without even giving it a chance. Of course, this is different because a lot of people have given Heroes lots of chances. To me it always seems to be getting on the right track, then everything completely changes within a few episodes. Storylines and character's IQs and stuff like that .

Anyway.....I put up with the Carnivale comparisons because it's more substantial. But I wouldn't say it has anything to do with the Wire until I know more.Plus it's Ernie Hudson....he rocks. I'll be taping heroes when it comes back....but my expectations are not high.

I'm with you, the whole Carnivale / Wire thing seems very fishy to me. I agree that it's too early to be screaming 'rip off', though that was certainly my gut reaction. I guess I just don't trust the writers off this show at all and I'm expecting bad things from them, whether it's crap, unrealistic, inconsistent characters or stealing from far better films, comics and TV shows.

I've watched every episode of this so far but short of trebling the budget, hiring a staff of genuine comic book writers, special effects wizards and charismatic actors there's no fuckin' way I'm going near this shite again.Which doesn't really matter anyway. I hope you Heroes fans aren't expecting a long story arc this series because it's going to be gone by mid-season at the latest.

I did forget Bubbles. He came and went so fast.....yet was such an interesting character. Wish they woulda done more with him. In fact, I wish they did more with Marlo's character as well. One main problem is that they are force stories on these characters. Characters that people grew to love after the first season. I think they should have stuck with the idea of new characters and their stories every season or whatever that was.

    by itrainmonkeys

I should add that after the first season....the characters got less genuine and more parody....so that's why a lot of people dislike the people they actually used to enjoy. I liked hiro in the first season. Now he's annoying IMO.

"No Escape" with Ray Liotta...search your heart, you know it's true!that movie was a solid sci-fi dystopian near-future movie, on a decent size budget, with some great practical effects and sets. and Liotta did a great job. seriously, put it on your netflix, you probably haven't seen it in 12 years, and it holds up.

    by mullah omar

...was the film I referred to in post #2. It wasn't a terrible movie, it was simply funny (and memorable) to hear Hudson confess that he'll take any gig he's offered. A bunch of actor friends of mine actually have a lot of appreciation for that attitude and respect his success at getting regular work because it is admittedly tough to earn a living acting. But it still makes me chuckle.
