Capone has details on the rescheduled PONYO screening in Chicago! Now with more seats!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here, with details on the make-up screening of Hayao Miyazaki’s PONYO for those of you in Chicago who had endure the heartbreak of not seeing the last reel of this fantastic film.
First off, here are the details of the screening:
PONYO
Wednesday, August 12
7:30 PM
AMC River East 21
322 East Illinois Street in Chicago
Okay, how do you get into this one? If you won for the last contest, you’re automatically in. You just show up. We still have the list of winners, so still bring your IDs; and if you have the original email, bring that too, but it’s not required.
But now here’s the bonus feature of this screening. Our original screening venue held 250 people; this new venue holds nearly 400. So if you won the first time and want to bring up to two additional guests (on top of the one you were already bringing), the more the merrier. You don't need to let me know if you're bringing additional guest, just bring them and show up early as always.
For those of you who can’t make this screening, we apologize and recommend you use the pass the theater gave you to go see the movie again to the end when it opens on August 14. Hope you all can join us one more time!
And if you have any questions, you know how to find me.

But unfortunately, I can't make it to this screening. Thanks for making things right, Capone.

I hope AICN doesn't have many more screenings at that AMC 600 N Michigan. We had so many problems with that theater we stopped going there long time ago. It was inexcusable that it took them so looong to attend to the problem. Thanks for rescheduling! PONYO PONYO PONYO!!!!

being first was properly recognized. Good work TA!
-
I bet the venom from all of the crybabies in LA will spill into this thread somehow.
-
I'm just curious about one thing. Did they dub that Ponyo song in English too?
-
sitting on the shelf in the "staff picks" section of a locally owned video store, getting dusty.
-
Not sure what you mean. If you're talking about seeing the film, I watched it at least six months ago. It doesn't hold up as one of Miyazaki's best. Too childish. Oh. And BOO HOO HOO.
-
So for people who didn't win or know anyone who did, we should beg here to be someone's extra or just show up at the theater in the hopes of being let in / joining a group?
-
anyone want to add my girlfriend and I as your two guests? a round after the movie on me?
-
Looking forward to it. I wonder how the crowd will react when we reach "the reel." Assuming all goes well, I'm expecting a spattering of applause.

Miyazaki rox your sox bitches

It reminds me of when 'Spirited Away' and 'Howl's Moving Castle' were released. Though in the case of 'Spirited Away,' I was always upset that it never got the recognition I felt it deserved...it was so different from anything people had seen in theaters at that time, and it's opening screen count was 75, that then grew to 150, and then just sunk. Though I did get to see 'Spirited Away' digitally projected, and that experience was amazing-just the details on screen.

Ponyo is getting a much wider release than previous Ghibli films. I do think Disney is trying to get these out to everybody; it's just that, although Ponyo pales in comparison to something like Princess Mononoke, America just wasn't ready to accept a serious anime feature. It's getting better, though. That Ponyo really is a children's movie (or a family movie), probably helps.

Missed the contest due to vacation. Love to see the early release of this (with wife and daughter in tow.)

... because more and more and more people drop out afte realizing this isn't a PIXAR movie.

I won tickets and was there, it was really disapointing not to be able to finish it. I cant make the re-screening, and I wish I could give my seats to someone who can make it. If you go, beware, AMC only validates $4 of your parking fee (and only if you use the Garage right across the street from them), so even though its a sneak preview and the tix are free, prepare to pay at least $25-$30 for parking. There is NO street parking within 3-4 blocks. Thanks for the opportunity Capone, it means a lot that you're trying to make the situation right :) I'll have to finish it when it comes out on DVD.
(but if you want to throw my name at the front of the line for another premiere that'd be awesome ;) -
BTW I never got any free passes, when did they give those out? Can Is till get them?
-
Looks retarded...Even my kids think it looks stupid, hell my gay ass, anime loving nephew thinks it will suck (ok, I don't have a gay ass anime loving nephew, but if I did, he would probably think this movie would suck.)
-
Thanks again for hooking us up with this, Capone. Loved it.
