Stunningly beautiful RAPUNZEL art online!
Hey folks, Harry here - lowering my blood pressure after tonight's TRUE BLOOD and the realization of my Virgin Immortal Cheerleader fantasy from my HEROES column! So happy. Anyway - speaking of little girls and fantasies - Robogeek sent me a link to this look at RAPUNZEL. God I want to see this movie. The art speaks to a larger tale than I had previously thought was possible with the story. What do you folks think?
Pretty eh?

who's the studio on this?

True Blood was fantastic tonight... as it always is. As for Rapunzel... meh
-
when are you releasing your basterds review? and First!
-
Looking forward to a classic fairy tale. Getting a bit tired of the all the hip "new fangled" animated fare...

douchy double post!

Really, Harry? Still no personal eulogy for John Hughes??
by Little Beavis
Tell me, what did he do to hurt you? Did he touch you in a naughty place and make you cry?

Vintage DAG.
-
I figured. It looks like Disney. I was hoping for more stylization after what the original director was going after, based on 'the swing' by Fragonard. Would still be interesting . . .
-
Curious about the story though, last yearit was being called Rapunzel: Unbraided and involved Rapunzel being a modern girl sent back in time or something like that. According to IMDB that approach (thank god) has been discarded in favor of just telling the classic story, but that instinct, or bent, to modernize the story might still be lingering in there, which might cheapen it. Or maybe it'll be a homerun, the art, again, has looked consistently great, I'll be interested to see how it looks when it's moving. And now I'm also super pumped for tonight's True Blood.

The one with the island/ship looks like "Monkey Island"
by darthvedder81
And how awesome would an animated "Monkey Island" feature be?
-
I totally thought of the Heroes virgin cheerleader thing during True Blood tonight.
-
middle of the road crap. is what this makes me think. at least it doesn't star vanilla ice and is called RAPunzel or something. Fuck you, Hollywood!
-
I remember some of the early artwork for "American Dog" being taken over by this same team and turned into the perfectly ordinary Bolt. Some of the early stuff for this flick looked pretty great, and the director sounded like he had a pretty ambitious visual look in mind. Now it's been taken over by the same guys that did Bolt, and while this artwork looks good, it doesn't look as ambitious as I think the first director may have been aiming for.

Just saying.

This sites system needs a complete reboot like whoa. Not that I really mind, but it should be done.
-
So there's GOT to be Rule 34 out there for this, by now.
-
With a Tim Schafer/Orson Scott Card script!
-
Always liked this kind of animation, unfortunately my 4 yo girl has ruined the Rupunzel story for me because of her wanting to watch that moronic fucking "Barbie Rapunzel" movie on the LCD in her room before she goes to bed everynight, so much so that it wore out the DVD.
-
Rule 35. Be patient. All horrific things come to ye who wait.
-
My little girl came in when I was writing that and asked "Daddy! why did Carl shoot that fat boy?!".... She's not gonna want to see UP again.. thanks a whole fucking lot Harry.
-
When does it come back?<p>I miss that show, maybe season two will be released soon.<p>Trueblood is surprisingly fun to watch.<p>Anyone remember the Mind of the Married Man? That was great.<p>Game of Thrones... wow, I can't wait, but I have to.<p>HBO has made me happy... but then they cancel. I WANTED THAT DEADWOOD FINALE-MOVIE-THINGY.<p>Hopefully Showtime won't do that to Californication, like they did to Dead Like Me.<p>I love that everything is underlined, it's like each message is a book title or a name to a ship.<p>I want some Millennium Falcon, I hope it shows up in that live action Star Wars I keep hearing about. Yeah, I want some star lines and engine failures.<p>How about an X-Files movie with aliens and the Cigarette Smoking Man and Krychek and Brian Thomson and that bald guy from Shocker.<p>How about a Firefly Prequel?<p>They should reboot the Hulk again; every Hulk movie should be a reboot.<p>I want a live action TICK movie! It would do okay if they released it in March, probably two weeks after whatever Zach Snyder releases in March. Where the hell is Warburton? He better show up in Curb Your Enthusiasm with the Eight-ball jacket! You hear me David? No, you don't.<p>I want some Game of Thrones news. Harry, use your contacts in the industry and give us a little scoop. Please.

Simple solution: teach your kid to read and take the TV out of your 4 YEAR OLD'S bedroom.

Ender's Game? Somethings gotta replace Potter for the kiddies.

You can really see his influence, especially on Rapunzel herself (very Ariel- esque). I think he was directing this for a period before deciding to become supervising animator instead. Who's doing the songs? (I'm assuming that there's songs).
-
Card said he finished the script earlier in the year and assembled a production team. <p> For those that don't know, Card wrote the insults for Secret of Monkey Island.
-
watching MUTANT CHRONICLES - not bad for a supposedly B film...
-
Thanks for the tip, I think I'll leave it up on the wall though. Its a treat for her to watch something before going to sleep, which is the only time she gets in front of the TV, and i'll be damned if I'm having that shite playing on MY TV. I don't know where you get the idea that my kid can't read though, she reads and writes very well, admittedly her hand writing looks like a 4 YEAR OLDS, but what are ya gonna do. Thanks for your input.
-
I hope it gets greenlighted.

Please.

Is this out on DVD yet? Can anyone help me out?

You could pretty much adapt anyone of his games. In the right hands they would all make kick ass flicks. Full throttle(his next release) looks to be his magnum opus. An homage to the glory and greatness of all things metal.
-
I agree with everything you said. Nice to see a talkbacker who doesn't hate everything.
-
Agreed! You mean Brutal Legend, though. It's easy to mistake awesome with awesome.

Anyway, I checked 4chan. No dice, yet.

activision cancelled it, but the studi that made it is trying t make it elsewhere, acti is suing, grossmans countersuing.
-
And it's that this movie would definately be better as a 2D film like classic Disney and the upcoming Frog Princess.<br><br>Also speaking of Brutal Legend, the custody case or whatever is over. Some kind of settlement was reached outside of court and the game is releasing on schedule.
-
I just saw it advertised at a movie theater today...
-
really? doesnt look anything special to me
-
Brutal legend I mean. Full throttle is one of his earlier games. My mistake. Either which way the point is is that Tim Schaefer is a true artist in a field that so desperately wants to be viewed as such. While most video games ARE mindless entertainment, there are a select few developers in the field that turn out well written and thought provoking material. Ken Levine and "System Shock" and "Bioshock" come to mind.(The latter of which WILL make an amazing film and I think Gore is a good choice) The team at Infinity Ward and what they've done with the narritve in the "Modern Warfare series. Is there a more intense sequence in film, literature or video games than the credit sequence in the beginning of Modern Warfare. For those who have seen it then you know what I mean and for those who have'nt I implore you to. Fucking chilling. Back to the topic at hand, Tim schaefer's work is completely unique, hilarious and always always always extremely smart. Smart in a way that the old simpsons episodes USED to be. Like South Park without the cruelty. Pixar with a bit more edge. Long story short the guy is a brilliant and imaginative story teller who's work, let me re-iterate, in the hands would make some truly great films. Speaking of pixar, that would be a match made in heaven. It's high time a video game gets a solid adaptation. Let us forget the nightmares of games-to-movies past. You know, double dragon, mario, mortal kombat, street fighter(Holy shit was this one awful and made even more so by the knowledge that this was unfortunately the last film of the great Raul Julia. Not quite the swan song im sure he had hoped for. Sad)The entire body of work of one Uwe Boll(before you get all insulted and agressive and start making irrational challanges Uwe know this, I grew up in a boxing ring and will fucking throttle you)To be honest there really has'nt been a good one yet so, Tim. Pixar. Workout the paticulars and make it fucking happen. There's an audience out here waiting to spend some cash.

I thought that was on your "I'll get around to it" list.

Yeah played through the first one already (it's on xbox live now, and ipod and pc). Very well done. The first episode of Tales of Monkey Island was also pretty good (www.telltalegames.com). Can we just change this to a Monkey Island thread?
-
I wonder if it means that Curse of Monkey Island will get updated to 3D?
-
What a useless update. All style, no substance.

Rapunzel should be a brunette.

...to put up talkbacks for True Blood. Either fire his ass or tell him that the people want talk-backs for certain shows. Tell him to stop jacking off over Joss Whedon long enough to just put up something...anything...about shows we love here.

Harry, it's been a few days! We need another Joss blog!

What's the Dollhouse update/ What's the Wonder Woman update?

If they still have the original cells, all they need to do is remaster and release.
-
Thank you RottenTomatoes for filling me in on this ever so cool news!
-
comes down in two strands and covers her tits to get a 'U' certificate.
-
I hope this is another 2D animated movie. It looks great by this artwork! :)
-
Let's see. You think Raging Bull, The Godfather films, and Taxi Driver suck. And you have the brass balls to criticize the Whedon? <p> Eat a creampie, you fucking troll hack.
-
I know what you mean. I remember he posted a "review" of a show a few years back (forgot which one), and the "review" didn't contain one iota of information. He basically said "this show was on, here, now buy all this shit on Amazon.com!" I complained, as I was checking in to see what I missed, expecting a summary of some sort of said show, but when I asked was bitched out by the entire fucking talkback. Goddamn browncoats sure do stick together...
-
Mind-boggling, man.
-
You're right about Locke's retarded taste in movies, but I'm getting sick of the blind adoration of Whedon. Yeah, he did some good stuff, but if one more person tries to convince me how cool Serenity was as a flick, I'm going ram an umbrella up their ass and open it.
-
nothing else matters

these pics have been on the official disney facebook group for over a week!

One of the most complex adventure games ever made (along with Fate of Atlantis). Uhh... what was this thread about again? Some movie?
-
That art, as they say, is weak sauce. OH YES! The weakest of the sauce. Indeed. Yes. For sure. Uh-huh. Weak. Man, was that weak. Hmmm. Weak. Shit. WOW. Weak ass. Yeah. Weaky weaky weak. Fuck you.
-
I knew it was coming even before they got to it,all I kept thinking was no fucking way are they going to actually go there and do the Pervy Harry's Heroes Fantasy thing and then they went and fucking did it....I laughed at her tears when I should have felt bad for her and its ALL because of Harry.<BR><BR>Ummm yeh nice pics and all that.
-
And yeah Monkey Island would rule.
-
And that underlining is unnecessary clutter. Great Rapunzel artwork though.

This happened once before I think. To me atleast, anyway. Someone made a middle of the road comment, but no one picked up on the joke.<P>THEY ARE STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF A ROAD<P>hahahahaha
-
They're the two best shows on tv right now.
-
...lack of edit ads a little risk and thrill to TB...every time you hit post you are inviting permanent shame and humiliation to yourself and your family. As it should be.
-
This is referring to a particularly disturbing (even by Harry standards) fantasy of Harry's about Hayden Panettiere's[sp?] character in Heroes, who can regenerate damaged parts of her body, and his wish to be able to take her virginity and have be be able to regenerate her undamaged hymen so he could do it again.<BR><BR>I assure you, I am NOT joking.
-
Supposedly, the art style of this film will be a bit of a hodgepodge. They are going to use CG to replicate a 2D painting style. Imagine the game Okami as the visual style for this movie.
-
of AICN, hostage to one guy's very weird taste. No regular True Blood, Supernatural and other genre show talkbacks, but there are tons of Reality Show articles, something this site should be dead set against. It's like a different site with different target audience. The talkbacks are still fun though.
-
Not as weird as Harry's cheerleader idea but weird still. You sure know how to creep people the fuck out sometimes.
-
... if only there were more than a handful of people in the world who appreciated beauty any more.
-
Look either money or access are traded for tb's/reviews. No pay no play. <p> I just read something about Knowles claiming the US version of Godzilla was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Because he was paid in access to state that. <p> Then after a rewatch, and I'm certain fan pressure, he reneged. <p> I have to wonder how long it takes the asshole to stop hurting when you get fucked for money.
-
didnt know he designed him.cool. Damn u Pixar/Disney for killing the 2D animation. :(
-
can someone put it in a context? what is he talking about?
-
otherwise Rapunzel's got the mange. Hmmmm, Rapunzel . . . rappel . . .
-
that I was stuck watching with the little clerics.
-
Ratumba, what's that chick with the long hair? Rapunzel. Hey Rapunzel! Hey Raputy, Hey Raputy the beauty........
-
...you really don't want to know.
-
I'm not sure it's only about money. (of course it is a major factor) I do believe Harry really did enjoy GI.Joe. Hell, the first time I saw Godzilla, I liked it (I was a kid though). Harry murdered Terminator Salvation and transformers in his reviews, and the studios granted him visits and whatnot for those. I don't see him machiavellian enough, to sacrifice those movies to regain his credibility. He writes from the heart. But he's not the only one reporting on movies, so there's a variety on the movie parts of AICN. Coaxial however is Herc's playground alone, who has a very strong opinion on TV shows (Yay Wheadon, yay reality shows, etc) that doesn't match the site's audience. (and I like Wheadon, but the cocksucking has to stop for his sake.)
-
But if this is by the guys who did Bolt the 3D may actually not be that bad. Bolt was surprisingly good. Incredibles lite.

If you're goiong to allow any TV people the pleasure of fucking your mouth at least reserve it for the best of the best. So, David Simon, Ed Burns, Its sword fight time. 99.9% of all shows could'nt wipe the ass of "The Wire". These guys deserve the felattio. Joss has earned himself a good ass pounding and possibly a reach-around. And to the douche above, Serenity was a great flick and yes I did say great. Proff is in the pudding.
-
animated only of course.
-
and much more fresh looking than your average Pixar movie's visuals.

Let's not get too crazy here. This is only concept art. Remember what they did to the Hercules concept stuff.

to see an EYVIND EARLE style film. he has one of his prints (unsigned, sadly)

That one scene when the Hobbits hide from the Black Rider.

But OK overall I guess.

it seems like it should be, esp with the images in that art, but good, old Harold didn't specify.
