Mr. Beaks Presents The List Of Attendees For The DISTRICT 9 Screening In L.A.!
Beaks here...
4,000-plus emails later...
Sorry I didn't have this list up yesterday afternoon as promised, but I have never seen a response like this to an AICN screening, and I wanted to make sure I didn't go too heavy selecting emails from one chunk of time over the last forty-eight hours. I'd like to think I've selected the winners as randomly as possible. You may disagree.
Before I copy-and-paste the list, a few things:
1) The screening is at the Arclight Hollywood Cinema (6360 W. Sunset Blvd.) on Tuesday, August 11th. It will begin at 8 PM. Please arrive an hour early so we can get everyone checked in in a timely manner.
2) The list below is long and not alphabetical. Just do a search for your name. If you made the list, your guest's name will be directly underneath.
3) I've overbooked just a little to make sure we get a full house. If you are on the list and don't make it into the screening, you will get VIP seating at the next AICN event.
And that should do it. I'll be watching the film for the first time with all of you on Tuesday night, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

You are THE MAN! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
-
Total BS
-
Piss on you
-
I re-read the original post and i suppose you never mentioned that you were going to run it that way. ALL of the other D9 screenings were 1st come 1st served though. Kinda sucks though since I sent it in mere minutes after the post went up. Lame
-
I entered immediately
-
...you'll get very few complaints about it being as random as possible. I think we can all probably agree on THAT. I think the issue is that, while it was never explicitly stated that entry would be granted sequentially, the notion of "posting the list as soon as the screening fills up" would sure as hell IMPLY that earlier was better. Don't get me wrong, I have no problems paying for this film, (would have done so anyway) but it sure as hell invalidates the benefit of having watched the site like a hawk until the post went up.
-
What a load of shit. fuck this site. Next time serve those that enter first.
-
Weird.
-
This is, quite frankly, a bunk play. After all the other screenings were clearly run as first come first serve, why wouldn't the LA screening do the same? To be fair to those who emailed late?
What about those of us who kept coming back to this site multiple times a day just to check on the screening info and make sure we got our emails in as fast as possible?
Also, if you were just going to wait for a few thousand emails, then pick and choose at random, why on Earth wouldn't you make that clear in the first post? Instead, you make it seem as though it would be first come first serve.
"And do not delay: I want to have this fucker filled by tomorrow afternoon. When every seat is accounted for, I will post the list of attendees."
That's from the other post. That's not what happened here.
I can't help but feel cheated out of what is sure to be a pretty awesome experience, here. Mr. Beaks, you should be ashamed of yourself for deceiving us and cheating a good portion of us who deserve to go to this screening, as per the rules that were established in all the other screening posts. -
I do have to echo the disappointment with the sudden change to random selection. I, like several others, have been watching for this list since the original post says that one would be posted when the screening fills. That implies, like the other screenings, that this was first come, first serve. Now, this is your website and screening, so AICN can make what changes they want. Just would have been nice to be told in advance.
-
That is how I read the original post as well! And I emailed within minutes of the OP. Yeah I am whining as I really wanted to go to the show and, like you, I would have (and will) pay for tickets to this flick. But, the event would have been nice and to think I met the criteria only to find out that I did not because it was decided by some electronic pulling-names-out-of-a-barrel thing I would not have been as excited and OCD about hitting the refresh button waiting for the list!!
-
I have to agree with some of the other talkbackers here, I assumed they would have chosen the entries on a "first come, first serve" basis. I sent my email out minutes after the article was posted on the site, and this was after a few days of clicking back on the home page and waiting for news on the L.A. screening.
-
So even if your name is on that list, you could make your way down to the Arclight, wait in line for hours, only to be turned away and given a pass to an event you don't care about.
What is going on here? Seriously, this is ridiculous, and it's in AICN's best interest to come up with a solution as soon as possible. -
I like the guys ahead of me got on early and checked the site constantly to see the list. I think its horseshit that somebody who came on it yesterday got on ahead of those who have been on this since the beginning. If I knew it was going to be random I wouldn't have wasted my time checking it constantly. When you run something like this you owe it out of courtesy to inform the participants of a change in rules. Shame on you Beaks. Second screening time!
-
That sucks that that person who doesn't even have a proper name gets in
-
This one too
-
10:30pm showing. Same venue. Same date. One more screening to do right by the folks who were wronged.
-
Jesus H Christ. what is wrong with you people! you know they dont have to do this EVER. but they do because they know you all love movies. Listen folks, im sad too that my name isnt on the list, but im so pumped that soooo many freakin people want to see this flick. STOP COMPLAINING!! ITS THERE FUCKIN SITE!!! GO PAY FOR THE FLICK!! DAMN!!!
-
I too had my finger on the refresh button everyday. If I had known that it would be random, I could have gone on the past few days not expecting to win. Please be more specific next time Mr. Beaks.
-
No, they don't have to do this. But, if they're going to do it, they should be as fair and as clear as possible. It's just the right thing to do. I didn't ask them to have a screening in LA, but since they're doing it, I'm aloud to complain when it isn't being run fairly.
-
Now that guy knew how to run L.A. Screenings!
-
The op had a sense of urgency to it that made it seem like you were golden if you got your email request in before the list of winners were compiled. The op stated that AS SOON as the screening was filled up, the list would be posted the next day (afternoon). The screening was not first come first served like the other screenings, though we were never told that, but we were led to believe it was still first come first served. I was watching this site like a hawk since yesterday afternoon, for what? I sent my email in within the first 5 minutes of it going up, i don't get in and yet Johnny Numbnuts who fires off his email right before you close the list makes it? B.S.

at the last minute, being the very last email sent. How fucked up is that?
-
Moriarty definitely knew how to handle these things. I'm surprised they aren't holding a second screening considering how many people emailed for this one.
-
i echo all the other talkbackers previous points. i also hit the send button on my email within minutes after days of watching the site. really, why not say it's random and i won't waste my time watching the site like a hawk. also then people don't get excited thinking they might make it in. in addition, the point no one else has made. ahmet zappa got a pass. tell me that's random.
yeah, right. -

This really wasn't fair, SO, SO LONG AICN, HELLO GEEKTYRANT!
by lobsterboy
Based on the fact that all the other screenings were first come/first served. I didn't put my email in until two hours later. But I was still left to believe whoever got in first would get tickets. So I put my name in as well. They should put in another screening just to even it out to those that were there first. I'll probably never try to get in on a screening here again based on the fact that it was solely unfair to those that didn't get tickets and watched the website "like a hawk." It's just plain bullshit to me. I'm gonna go see what geektyrants doing. this place BLOWS!
-
Sent my e-mail in, wasn't chosen. But as it turns out, I went to the Landmark the other day was was invited to a test screening for a far more interesting movie: THE DEBT. Starring Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington, Tom Wilkinson, and Ciaran Hinds, directed by John Madden. This is also Tuesday night. Looking forward to it a lot.
-
While I agree that the op and the other screenings made it almost certain that this screening would be first-come first served--I feel like a random selection is just as fair as it's simply unrealistic that everyone who has a serious interest in the film must check the site every ten seconds.
Still, in this case...I think people got tricked. It has to be made clear, it will be random. -
I've gotta agree with the complaints above.
The original post DID NOT make it sound like a random contest.
First come, first serve should have been the way to go. There are far too many loyal AICN fans you've disappointed with this bullshit move. -
QUIT BITCHING! I didn't get in either. I also kept hitting the refresh button till it was posted. You sound like a bunch of entitled geek bitches. Beaks never said it was first come first serve. When he picked the names he said he tried to be as random as possible, meaning if he saw a name he knew maybe he'd let that person in (read chris gore, and ahmet zappa)Grow up.
-
I'm aloud to bitch because Beaks didn't clearly state random selection as his method from jump. If he had, there wouldn't be a problem. Reading comprehension, fellas. It's not just a phrase.
-
Really?
-
... if we can't get in, I respectfully suggest that we make fun of those who did and have silly names. That's right... I'm calling YOU out, Stonegarden Grindlife.
-
I don't know. The trailers kinda thrill me in a Wolverine kinda way.

AICN BURNED ME WITH G.I. JOE, I'M DOWNLOADING DISTRICT 9....
by carlthormark1978
We all know how chummy Harry and Peter are so I won’t be putting a penny into this movie because AICN has proven with G.I. Joe that, once again, it can be bought as easily as a $2 whore.
-
Even when the L.A. screening Post came up Mr Beak said, "Do not delay." Hmmmmm, when I hear something like that, it makes me think that it's a first come/first serve basis!
-
Some people have jobs, like myself. I was lucky enough to be at a computer when it was posted, but maybe some people aren't. So just because you live at home with mommy and you don't have a job, besides dusting your Star Wars action figues, you should get to go? That's not fair either.Life's not fair. I was just psyched as we all were at the advent of being able to see what looks to be a bitchin' flick, but it didn't work out. Oh well.I'm sure even if they said it was random from the start, you would've been hitting the refresh button every minute anyway. Because you gotta have it now, gotta see it now, gotta know right now. Dry your eyes babies.
-
"You don't have a job and live in your mom's basement." jibes. I don't live with my mom. I work. I got my email in quickly. I've been cheated. End of story.
-
Not cool. I know had mine in early as well. It's not that it was a free flick. I can pay for the movie and I will, but it's the principle of the thing. not cool Beaks. Not one bit.
-
I see you subscribe to internet insults 101. Too bad you didn't tell us we were in the basement too. Really, can dorks on the internet please come up with new standard insult? Get this genius: If you don't make the rules clear, people get upset. Make it clear and there won't be such irritation. It's simple really, but apparently not simple enough for you to get it.
-
It's called an RSS feed integrated into Outlook at work. I wasn't kicking it at home refreshing all day.
We're just bitching about how the contest was mishandled. No worries though, i'll just catch it the following Saturday. Would have been more fun to watch it with a bunch of geeks though. -
Thanks for the hook-up. If my girl can't make it, am I allowed an my alternate? Don't worry, he's domesticated.
-
Oh and by the way. If your theory of Beaks picking out names of people he knew. that's not random, it would defeat the whole idea of the contest being random, which is my point.
Use a dictionary. random means that it's dependent on chance, not choice. -
And had been checking every day. Maybe even then I wouldn't have made it, but oh well, I'll still pay for it.
-
Still no SF info ... I won't bitch if I don't get it. I'll still pay to watch it. Thanks for setting these things up! :)
-
I would have certainly given up my seat for him. Hopefully seeing a great movie will send him into early retirement.

Who knew the guy from the Cure was a geek?

Please make a point to say when things will be randomly chosen a
by jrsunny
After seeing the article entitled" Want to see D9 in Los Angeles, Austin, etc etc," I came to this website everyday checking almost every 2 hours to see if a list had been put up. The other screenings had been a first come first serve basis and I assumed this would be the same. I really wanted to see D9 so I checked for MANY days MANY times. At one point, I thought the LA screening wouldn't even go through but I continued checking because I really wanted to go.
I'm not mad because I didn't get on the list, I'm mad that I spent so much time trying to get on that list. If it wasn't going to be like the other screenings, he should have said so. That way I could have peacefully checked once a day instead frantically trying to scramble to my blackberry to see if there were any updates. -
I like many others registered for this screening minutes after it was posted and was also denied the opportunity. I think first come first served is the best route to take with these screenings.
-
...I graciously posted the link to facebook after I had submitted my own name. Now I've got friends going who I had informed, and Mr. Good Samaritan (ME) ain't on the list.
AIN'T IT COOL? No. No, it ain't cool. Not at all. -
In any situation in which you are being offered an *opportunity* to attend an advance screening, which is purely sincere motives from these guys, you shouldn't expect or demand anything.
-
I personally don't think anyone should feel like they deserved to go. I sent my email in two and a half hours after the post went up and I was pretty sure I wouldn't get on the list. What I think everyone and myself included is upset about is the dedication we put into checking the website because it was under the assumption that it was a first come, first serve basis. I'm not screaming bloody murder but I'm frustrated because I was stopping what I was doing at work to check to see if a post went up. It's strange that he would defer from the norm of the other screenings for this particular screening. I'm a new visitor to AICN and it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth, really.
-
I got in and I'm still calling bullshit on this.
-
I sent the email like 10 minutes after contest went live, but whatever.BTW this isn't even at the dome, folks. Just bought two tix for midnight showing at the Chinese -- I WIN!
-
I have to say I’m not like spitting mad here or anything, (although, I’m also not belittling those who appear to be). But I think jrsunny hit it on the head by saying it has nothing to do with not being grateful for the opportunity. It’s about an implication that the selection will be handled a certain way and then totally changing the rules. Now don’t get me wrong, Beaks could release the full list and we could all be like 3999 even after entering quickly after the post went up, (which, cosmically, would actually be pretty god damned funny) but we’ll never know because it’s not being handled the way they implied it would be.
As for AICN doing this out of the goodness of their hearts… no offense, (and I could be TOTALLY wrong here) but I suspect they probably don’t have money to do these sorts of things. More than likely, the studio went to THEM and asked if they would like to host these screenings if they paid for them. I assume they have cash in their marketing budget set aside for this sort of stuff and what better way to sell the film to your average Joe than getting the geeks to go nuts over it and spread the word.
-
I got my email right after the announcement was made. Had I known that this was going to be random I wouldn't gotten my hopes up. I know it's free and all but still kinda sucks.
-
He'll have a few bumps and bruises as he irons out his personal process, but I always leave the screening stuff up to the individuals running the screenings.
-
Even Harry is hinting at the fact that Beaks fucked this up.
-
...for the reasons cited above. I was fairly sure I had gotten in early enough to have a shot at seats, and I've been eagerly checking back here frequently since the original post. That's life, though, I guess. No hard feelings from me; please just try to clarify next time. Hope y'all enjoy the show!
-
Had I known it was random, I would have had my guest sign up too. Assuming it was first come, I opted against that as to not have duplicates. I vote for failure.
-

On Wednesday, I wasn't plannning on seeing this screening
by immorganfreeman
And now, I'm still not seeing it. Balance is the nature of the universe.
-
oh, I also got rid of my Angel tickets since I sent in my email early and thought I was a shoe-in for tickets. Now I gotta buy those tickets again so I can get my Mike Napoli bobblehead. Thanks Beaks!
-
He's the only one out of ALL the screenings that randomized the selection, period. That's why he's the ONLY ONE getting the shaft. We waited, waited, waited, waited, for what seemed like a week, people sat at their computers doing nothing but constantly refreshing the site, and it didn't even matter. Like I said, I could've been person # 4,000 to send in my email and I could've made it into the 250 who are getting in, randomly. Figure it out.
-
You weren't guaranteed a spot, you didn't PAY for anything, you didn't have a chance to see the movie til the drawing was announced, and yet you all act as though you're entitled to win.
All of these sore pussy losers turning ugly after losing something they didn't work for anyway. Makes me wonder how you'd all take a loss in a sport. Oh, that's right, the only sport you play is probably stuff-the-cheetos.
Jeez... -
This isn't rocket science. It's a fairly simple process, one that had been done just days before for other cities.
This is just a monumentally frustrating situation.
And, once again, it's not about the fact that I'm not on the list, and it's not the fact that I don't get to see District 9 for free. I'm frustrated because I wasted my time giving this site hits and making sure I got my email in as early as possible, when I didn't have to. It's just really bad form.
Interesting that Beaks hasn't yet tried to explain himself or offer up an apology. Then again, if I were him, I'd be pretty embarrassed about this fiasco, and hesitant to face the proverbial firing squad, too. -
He couldn't even bother to put numbers next to the names like Harry did. The L.A. screening process was just a huge joke, from beginning to end. Fair is fair and even if i won, i would have still called b.s. on this.
-
...what makes you all sooooo sure YOU were "one of the first" to send an email? When I call a radio station immediately after they announce "Caller 20 wins tickets!" it doesn't mean I'm within the first 20 who called. Hell, the people on here who claim to have sent their names first were probably one of thousands who sent their names in "first."
Get real, bitches! Do the math! -
How about, instead of hurling lame baseless insults, you go back and read some of the posts here, and get a clue as to why people are actually upset.
Just for a change of pace... -
"I'm frustrated because I wasted my time giving this site hits and making sure I got my email in as early as possible"
AWWWWWWWWW POOR BAAAAAAAABY....
"Oh my God, I wasted so much time clicking a button and giving a website my valuable hits. They get thousands of hits a day, but MINE...oh god, MINE...they raped my hits."
Please. Be grateful you were even offered a chance, you whiny puss. Like I said, you may think you were the first, but hundreds or even thousands of others probably thought they were "first" too. You don't have a magical machine that makes your email show up first in an inbox, do you? No? Then take your tail out from between your legs.
"OH MY GAWD IT WAS A RANDOM DRAWING!"
OH MY GOD BECAUSE CONTESTS HAVE NEVER BEEN DONE THIS WAY BEFORE, AND AICN DOESN'T RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DO IT HOWEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT!! I'MA DIEEEE! -
Is it a puss or a tail that's between my legs?
It's not about my hits. I did what a lot of people did. Give this site numerous hits a day, just to get the proper info.
I don't think anyone who's posted their frustration so far has been ungrateful. I also don't think it's too much to ask that if you're going to hold a contest like this, that you succinctly establish the parameters of said contest at the beginning. Beaks never did that.
You're right, Beaks could have kept this first come first served, and I still might not have gotten in; but that isn't the point. The point is it looks an awful lot like he changed the gameplan for some unknown reason, without being clear to us from the beginning.
Why in God's name are you so hostile? Has my personal frustration over this situation personally offended you so much that you feel the need to insult me with some 7th grader material? Or are you just trying to be the obligatory, "I'm cool" guy on this talkback? -
when you run a contest, you tell people the rules upfront. if you are going to pick your friends or hand people who are recognizable tickets, don't call it random. otherwise, you are full of shit.
people don't like it when the rules change midstream. yeah, it's nice they organized these screenings and yes, we appreciate it. however, what we don't appreciate is a lack of organization and coordination that leads us to believe that things are being run in an objective way. this is a good will gesture, you would think that it would be important to run a good will gesture meant to engender good will for the site in a way that will not lead to confusion and upset.
we're adults. we assume beaks is one too. his job was to organize the screening and realize that a shitload of people were going to enter, so it would be a good idea to be upfront about what he's doing so that no one would be surprised by the outcome.
that's not much to ask. -

I had my email in within 12 minutes of the post thinking I was a lock, I guess I should know better than to trust anything said on this site. Stay classy AICN.
-
Your initial post implied that it was first come first serve you bait and switch fucker!
-
Beaks said something about having the list asap as soon as he filled all the seats and that it would be up by Friday afternoon. When Friday night came, i thought to myself that since the list wasn't up yet, that he still didn't have enough people to make a proper list. Oh no, that wasn't the case, he let the emails that came in after the "deadline" count towards the list and then after 4,000+ emails he turns what has been a "first come, first served" screening into a raffle. That's fucking lame.
-
Thanks Mr. Beaks! Can't wait! :)
-
No need to say in my own words what so many others already did splendidly. I'll just post the pieces that best express my own opinion.
"
"After seeing the article entitled" Want to see D9 in Los Angeles, Austin, etc etc," I came to this website everyday checking almost every 2 hours to see if a list had been put up. That way I could have peacefully checked once a day instead frantically trying to scramble to my blackberry to see if there were any updates."
What I think everyone and myself included is upset about is the dedication we put into checking the website because it was under the assumption that it was a first come, first serve[d] basis. I'm not screaming bloody murder but I'm frustrated because I was stopping what I was doing at work to check to see if a post went up. It's strange that he would defer from the norm of the other screenings for this particular screening. I'm a new visitor to AICN and it just leaves a sour taste in my mouth, really."-jrsunny
"I got my email right after the announcement was made. Had I known that this was going to be random I wouldn't gotten my hopes up. I know it's free and all but still kinda sucks."-TJ Donkey Show
"But I think jrsunny hit it on the head by saying it has nothing to do with not being grateful for the opportunity. It’s about an implication that the selection will be handled a certain way and then totally changing the rules...it’s not being handled the way they implied it would be."-beastrow1970
"I graciously posted the link to facebook after I had submitted my own name. Now I've got friends going who I had informed, and Mr. Good Samaritan (ME) ain't on the list. AIN'T IT COOL? No. No, it ain't cool. Not at all."-aldentre -

Im not mad per se, but it really should be first come
by industrykiller!
Just for future reference. I like many others, checked the site like a house on fire waiting for the screening to show up. It's frustrating but what are ya gonna do? I would like to at least commend the site for putting this screening together, I think that's pretty cool of you guys.
-
Hey morons this movie opens on the 14th chill out. Most of you seriously have issues you don't win a random drawing contest and you think it's a huge conspiracy. Shut up you're not important. A lot of contests are random selection so wake up. You haven't been cheated, no one is out to get you, you're just going to have to spend 7-10 bucks on a ticket for a movie you obviously want to see anyway. Debate over.

-
Who are frustrated would have paid to see this movie regardless of this contest. So what's your point?
-
I know it opens the 14th, but not at the Arclight, which in my opinion is the best movie experience found anywhere. I'd gladly pay, and wait, but this was my one chance to see it with the best projection and sound.
-
I almost got half way through your comment before realizing you're an idiot.
-
I, too, sent an email within an hour of the posting and thought for sure I would be in. Oh well, at least the movie gets my money now as it wouldn't have otherwise.

by jasongrey
I e-mailed in like 3 minutes after mr beaks posted this one up!
messed up! -
And no, I didn't get in either but it's a free screening! Be thankful you even get an opportunity to get to see one.
-
Beak's original post definitely seemed to imply a first come first serve event. Even that withstanding, that's just how these sorts of events should be managed to insure a fair selection. I don't know where I fall on the list, but I would like to think that those who are invited, were chosen on in a fair manner. Not only is "random" a BS way of determining guests, it was not at all represented that way. Thanks Beaks.
-
I didn't get in either. I'm sure I sent it in within the first 90 minutes it posted. Disappointed, yes. Surprised that they went from a "First Come-First Serve" to supposedly "Random" selection. But I still appreciate the opportunity. Hope I can make it in next time.
-
That's dbaggery at its finest!
-
I didn't even enter. I don't live anywhere near LA. But I have ti point out, it's a contest. Like a lottery, it's based on chance. Not quick timing, that would be a "giveaway".
Alotta yall sound like some whiny little faggots right now. You didn't win a contest. Do you cry to the cashier if you don't win money on a scratch ticket? No. Shut the fuck up. -

by capnjake
You know what though thats ok, It will be a far better experience going to see it at 12:01 on the giant screen at Graumans Chinese theatre. never cared for the Arclight and there Nazi Elitist Employees anyways.
-
And I didnt get on the list EITHER. The wording of the original post sounded like time was of the essence and that if you didnt enter right away the event would be filled up. Boo to you Beaks.
-
...you suck.
-
Should I stop checking for an SF screening now?
-
...you REALLY suck.
-
Guys, this wasn't a contest to line up and see who gets to fuck Scarlett Johansen, it's a God Damn 13 dollar movie ticket. You like movies so much, go pay to see it the next day. DO you really need 12 hour bragging rights on your friends? Do you have friends? I mean, shit I'm sad I didn't get in, but some of y'all are tying nooses over this...Jeebus...
-
If there is a San Francisco screening and it's handled by someone else, it might still be worth checking back and submitting an entry.
-
I didn't win BOO HOO!!! I'm never coming back here again ,,,, MOMMIE!!!!
-
Anthrax you have not been cheated, end of story. That would involve you losing something that should have been yours, due to foul play. Which is 100% not the case here. And yes people are going to throw out all those stereotypical "jibes" because that is what you read like. You all come off very whiny with a false sense of entitlement.Nothing was implied by his op about this being first come first serve, and in reading all the other cities posts, I don't believe first come first served is ever mentioned. They all just say some form of, "Get it in asap." They want a lot of responses so they can pull from a large pool of names, and give as many people as possible a chance at getting in.
-
Hey Calista, you genius? Try to comprehend this with your massive brain. Rules are not needed for us because this isn't a sport, or a game.Hell it's barely a contest, there is no skill involved, just chance. And no I don't subscribe to internet insults 101, I just google them. It's cheeper that way. But of course they are standard, generalized insults, because we don't know each other. You are just a screen name and a comment. That's all we have to go on, and the things I said reflect how you complainers are coming off to me.Oh and by the way. My "theory" of him picking out specific names does not run contrary to the contest being,
as he stated, and I reiterated, "...as random as possible." Use your eyes neither of us phrased it as being totally random. Each person hosting a screening could
pick out names they knew, and they all did as far as I could tell. Every other name was chosen at random. You knowing or not knowing the "rules" in no way changed your chances of getting in. Everyone that sent an email had the same odds, which is essentially the definition of random. We all had an equal probability of being chosen -
for the winners' list, "I'd like to think I've selected the winners as randomly as possible." Unfortunately Mr. Beaks, dear calista griffin has pointed out the errors of your ways. To add to her posted link, I submit the following information: the Twitter asking if anyone had been promised a seat by you was responded to by current_movies. A short dialog later (starting at 1:55 PM Aug 7th) which included a request for a +1 seat, ended with John Lichman (a.k.a. current_movies) in position 141 and John Lichman's Guest in position 142 on the attendees list. For those saying "ooh you were never promised anything" I have this to say: We were promised draws from submitted emails, and while seats are always reserved at screenings, this is a bit over the top. Face it folks, the problem here is that we were mislead, and no one likes that to happen to them.
-
Once again I am not selected nor a winner! [whoop-whoop-whoop]
-
There was nothing misleading in the post. "...as randomly as possible." does not mean completely random. It means that it's random after accounting for other factors, e.g. people he knows that want in.For the record you were NOT promised anything. Certainly not that all names would be pulled from emails.
-
Concerning the whole, "You made it sound as if time was of the essence."In point of fact it was. I'm sure had you waited a while you'd be shit out of luck. As in not eligible. We don't know when he stopped accepting entries. And you can't blame him or his post for making you compulsively refresh the home page. Because even if he had indicated that the drawing was random in the op, it would have been too late. You already wasted your time before beaks wrote word one, due to your unfounded belief that it was first come first serve.I thought it might have been first come first serve as well, but I didn't know for sure. So to be on the safe side I was OCD for a day or two about refreshing the home page.Boo-Hoo! Big fucking deal. You people all act like someone pissed in your cheerios.
-
I too submitted my name, about 20 minutes after the post - and I didn't get in either.
But you know what, I'm not going to complain about not getting into a FREE FUCKING SCREENING
AICN is a pretty fucked up site at times - they get greased by the studios and give some fucking bias reviews, but that doesn't mean they owe us SHIT.
You're not owed a free fucking screening of anything, you're not even owed the ability to read this site.
So shut the fuck up you whiny fuck ass bithes. If Beaks decided to do something like wipe his ass with a list of everyone's name an the ones not covered shit were the one's going, that's his choice.
Again- you didn't pay for shit - its FREE fucking screening and you're not owed SHIT. -
...are just as bad. Not ONE of you has said anything new, just adding your two cents. Another side of the same whiny coin.
-
but now i'm kinda glad.. I'll go to a late showing friday night adn hope i at least get no-one sitting next to me or behind me!
-
There's no saving throw for your ass, kiss your elf/mage goodbye loser.
-
people would still bitch. Either way, I'm glad some of you didn't get in taking into account your behavior. You probably would of bitched about something at the screening anyways.
For those who didn't get in but took it in stride, I hope you guys get hooked up next time. For those attending, I'll see you there. -
Well said.
-
of people who think this kinda blows. I can deal with it, but I was on the site when it got posted, sent in my email within five minutes and it sure seemed like first come style. Not crying, but just come out and admit you f'ed up.
-
Last week was the first time EVER I've visited this site. EVER. Always heard about it, never tried it before. On a WHIM I signed up for the D-9 screening, I must've been like number 3999 or something, cause when I signed in, the talkback was shitfull to the brim! And I just found out me and my bestest are in! I'm in the top 15 names!!! Whoo!!! Whoo!!! First time visitor, too! Hell, I didn't even have to break a sweat checking and re-checking the site to see if the contest was open, or whatever the hell it was was going on here. You think I'm just trolling here, you're wrong, this is %100 absolute pure what happened! Thanx Mr. Beaks for randomly giving a straggler a chance to make the bitches at home wish they were with me and mine come Tuesday night! Hell, I don't even care much about this movie - shit, what's it about again? Insect aliens or shit like that that's prolly like any other movie, I don't see anything unique about this movie except that it takes place in New Zealand or something, I don't know... in fact, we'll probably just sit for half the fuckin' movie then leave in the middle. Just imagine, you could'a had our two seats, but you went and signed in too early! BITCHES!!!
-
Aside from all the dumbshit apologists for Mr. Beaks fuckup, the real question is why didn't he do it on a first come first served basis? It's pretty clear from his post that that is how it was going to be done initially ( no bullshit here from you numbnuts who say it's interpretation. Only straight talk here). From what we know all the other screenings were on a first come basis. Why the change in LA? Time for an answer Beaks.
-
That's such a fucked up way of doing things. Not everyone can be expected to sit in front of their screens and continuously hit the refresh button. Everyone should have a reasonably equal chance at getting into this screening.
And before you ask, no I didn't get in. But still, first come first serve is bullshit. -
...that most of you seem to be overlooking. Yes, he said get it in as soon as possible, but he also said that he tried to select names evenly distributed across the submission period. Thus, for those who were submitting shortly after the posting, they might have had a better chance waiting a day rather than throwing their name in with the initial glut of entries, right? Consequently, getting it in as soon as possible was not sound advice. However, if the random selection is skewed toward periods of time in which more entries were received, this would not be as much of a concern as random drawings go.Anyway, again, no hard feelings from me. The level of vitriol (and the cry of "whiners!") here is a bit much.
-
They're spoiled, and they cry when things don't go their way.
-
That there is (almost) no backlash. Maybe because they were first come first serve...?
-
No, we just aren't stupid. We don't just shut up and take orders. We'll ask questions if they are merited.
Maybe in Bumfuck, Nebrahoma just doing what you're told works for you. But the meek inherit the earth right? Only after the people who asked questions are done with it. -
that's exactly why. the rules didn't change and people knew what they were getting into. that's why there's problems in the one city where the rules did change.
pretty simple really. -
All of the so called, "Whiners" have been making their points intelligently and respectfully, in fact not whining at all. Meanwhile, every one of the apologists or Beaks defenders has resorted to recycling the same tired insults in their cliched, profanity laced posts.
I just found that kind of interesting...
Oh, and this TB is starting to get pretty funny now. At least it has that going for it. -
No matter how the arguments are made, one side is still completely in the wrong.
You can put together the most civilized and respectful complaint you'd like, but when your complaint is that you lost a contest, none of it matters anyway.
"But..but..but...I thought it was going to be FIRST COME FIRST SERVED...so...so I entered really QUICKLY...but but..I..."
Well, it wasn't first come, first served. So get over it. I mean, right? What does it accomplish to keep reiterating what you THOUGHT the contest was going to be?
Some of you guys would be the worst people to take to the casinos. "But I thought a king was higher than an ace! But...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOaaaaah!"
Whiners. -
...so I did not enter this contest, but I can see another reason why the people are pissed off, and part of it has only been mentioned a couple times here. As someone has already pointed out by posting one of Beak's tweets, he asked his buddies to remind him of who he had promised seats to, and so he has taken a bunch of the seats and given them to his friends which is likely why he changed it from first come first serve to random. Those of you saying that this site is holding the screening out of kindness, it is nice and all, but it's most likely the studio holding the screening but is going through AICN, and now one (only one) of the organizers in one city has changed the rules in order to give his buddies tickets. So an event which the studio was trying to give to the AICN readers has been intercepted by one of the site's moderators who is using many of the tickets for his personal use. It's corrupt. It's akin to when countries send money and aid to foreign countries but the government and politicians line their pockets with it, and don't give it entirely to the people.
-
Except...you know..it's a movie screening.
-
I haven't read all of the TB, but in defense of all those miffed at the 'switheroo' tactics employed by Beaks for this screening I have this to say. This was never proposed or sold on the premise that it was a 'contest', NEVER. To cling to some non-existent caveat and then erroneously throw it into the faces of those who played by the 'rules' as they were clearly laid out in the original post is pretty stupid. The terms for attendance were simple and concise, and in the end Beaks completely deviated from his own plan. Random selection was never mentioned, but a plea to respondents to NOT DELAY sure as shit was, so I can fully understand why people feel shafted, because, quite plainly, they totally were. I enter as evidence (and as an appeal to Beaks waning sense of SHAME) the terms as laid out in his original posting: "Want in? All you have to do is shoot me an email with the subject header "DISTRICT 9", and give me your name and the name of your guest. And do not delay: I want to have this fucker filled by tomorrow afternoon. When every seat is accounted for, I will post the list of attendees."
-
It's not corrupt. Every person hosting a screening had it well with in there power to dole out tickets to whom ever they wished. I highly doubt if Beaks was being underhanded he would have posted it on twitter. All of you have found the post, not exactly shady. He's been up front the whole time. I'm not saying the other cities weren't first come first serve, but has anybody even proven that they were. Not that it matters, it was never stated as being that way. Anywhere. Not at all.Read Harry's post for the Austin screening. His is the most up front about handing buddies tickets. So clearly it's allowed. If I hosted screening I'd make sure some of my friends got in as well, seeing as how this is not an official contest, just a "Hey email me and maybe I'll pick your name out of a hat."Every screening was overbooked, every screening had some cherry picked guests. And of course the studio is involved in the screening, it's there movie, but this is not there screening, otherwise none of us would have gotten in through emailing Beaks. So, once again. There were no rules broken, or changed, as they never officially existed. At least as far as we are concerned. Learn some dignity and just except that you misunderstood what was going on.

Man, this is pretty lame for people who dedicate their time to read "AICN".
-
First bit to Mr. Beaks - I checked back hoping that this would have been resolved by now. Shame it hasn't. Your absence in this discussion is compounding the problem. I think there are a lot of regular site visitors who feel they're overdue an apology for their confusion and frustration. (Which has nothing to do with winning or not.) May I also recommend as a way to iron out future "bumps" that you take the time to list guests and winners separately? If possible, that should help.
Now, to Ponfarr, because you chose to poorly attack my comment: Sorry but it's an old trick from gossip rags to edit quotes in order to remove or alter their meaning. In your response to me you only quoted"...as randomly as possible." as proof of your argument that, "It means that it's random after accounting for other factors, e.g. people he knows that want in."
Unfortunately, that quote comes from the full sentence, "I'd like to think I've selected the winners as randomly as possible." The winners of a random draw never include invited guests. Your own argument is faulty.
My second point is valid as well. Look at the original contest posting - we were absolutely promised draws from submitted emails. I didn't speak about how they were drawn. I didn't even say there were none. I simply said that dropping guests into the middle of a "winners' list" was clearly an error in judgement. All you have to do is look at above posts and you'll see that several people noticed familiar names in what was interpreted as a "winners' list" and that clearly upset them.
As I'm just trying to facilitate a resolution on the part of AICN, I'd rather not hear from you again. However, should you choose to respond, please gather your wits and think a bit before doing so. Blatant insults will get no response from me. -

Cause they'll be in MIAMI! HAHA SUCK IT LA!

I can only assume he knows he fucked up and therefore has not spoken up.
-
and i randomly emailed this at 3am after it was posted. i'm surprised the people who got picked aren't posting on here, the only ones that are seem to be the ones who didn't make it. oh well!
-
First off I am not a gossip rag, and I do understand that they edit quotes to change the meaning, but that is also done in well respected reporting as a tool for brevity. Clearly when I quoted the line, "...as randomly as possible." I was speaking of the drawing of winners names. That's what this whole tb is about the winners and the way in which they were chosen. So if you're not into the whole brevity thing, and think that my cutting to the quick is a lack of wits, here goes. There was nothing misleading in the post, "I'd like to think I've selected the winners as randomly as possible." does not mean completely random. All that statement leads to is that he had no real method for picking the WINNERS, meaning people who got in through email. Not every single person attending. It was random, he didn't use first come first serve, or ten people with a name that begins with "A", then ten that begin with "B", etc. There you go. I don't think adding, "I'd like to think I've selected the winners..." really added a lot to the ability for one to comprehend my point, but I hope it helped.I forgot who you were when I started to read your post and half agreed with you, till you tried to poorly respond to my pristine and concise evisceration of your weakly structured complaints.Just check my post a few up from this one. I tried to clear everything up, and lay it out in plain English. Straight talk as on complainer put it.That said I agree that it would look a lot better if Beaks got on here and defended himself. Though a defense should not be required in the first place.
-
The thing that gets me the most about this thread, and others, is that every person who didn't get a ticket has the right to post any frustration they have, but people like yourself feel the need to come in and try to invalidate any feelings they might have. You could simply NOT POST if you think it's silly. The only person who has any legit beef with the negative posts is Beaks, and I think he's avoiding the discussion. Why do you feel the need to defend a grown man who can, by all accounts, defend himself. Or, why do you feel the need to invalidate what other might feel?
-
he's a DICK
-
I wasn't picked... but it's cool.
I would like to give ya a suggestions for the next screening you help host.... as you see with the post above... next time.. just say "These are the people getting into the LA screening. Gratz and blah blah." Don't tell the method used to pick, because someone will always complain. Maybe for next time.

To think he wouldn't let his friends in is incredibly ignorant
by iamnicksaicnsn
That's how things go at AICN. And I'm not complaining, if I had that power, I would too.
-
...must be very large, because after sending out that tweet that asked his Twitter followers to remind him of who he promised tickets to, I'm sure most of them replied back that they'd like passes. That's why he likely didn't publish a separate guest list because it must be ridiculously huge and people would be like "what the fuck?" ...even more than they're saying now.
-
Nothing to say Beaks? Your silence is looking like an admission of guilt. Come on explain your rationale and take your medicine. Don't be such a puss.
-
Just read his post, because it explains everything.
-
The internet is only being the internet. As someone stated above, you'd think these were passes to fuck Scarlet Johanson. Guess what? They're not.
It's $13 and a few days of pathetic bragging rights. I'd be nice to have a laugh at the screening about "all the people who couldn't make it".
See you there. And thanks again for the tickets. -
Just pick as many people that will fill the seats and tell people who didn't get picked that if they want a chance to get in, to line-up and they'll be let it to fill the no-shows. Nothing worse than driving to one of these things, thinking you are picked, and not getting in. Don't waste my motherfucking time.
-
Doing a quick scan of the list, I already spotted 2 horror writers and a horror director. I'm sure there are more I missed. Would a random selection of over 4000 emails result in so many industry people? Highly doubful.
-
Changing the rules does suck. However, changing the rules to accommodate your friends is a sign of bad judgment and an affront to AICN readers who entered legitimately. It would have been better to not have said you were randomizing entries and when you posted the list you should have left your friends names off and no one would have been the wiser. Posting on Twitter was a really bad call, too. Beaks, you essentially made this screening your own personal screening that you've invited a few "select" AICN readers to. I'm not upset that I didn't get in, I'm seeing it Friday. I, like many others, are quite annoyed with the way you've handle the selection process and how you haven't grown a pair to address this fubar with the readers. Come on man, face it, you fucked up!
-
Beaks: "Want in? All you have to do is shoot me an email with the subject header "DISTRICT 9", and give me your name and the name of your guest. And do not delay: I want to have this fucker filled by tomorrow afternoon. When every seat is accounted for, I will post the list of attendees."
I send in email 15min after he post this, only to have him randomly give the tickets to his friends. Im done reading a review or post from Beaks, he does not stand by his word. Making his words meaningless. Long time AICN reader first time poster. -
hell yeah! BTW I didn't use my studio email. So I don't think the selection was biased for industry people.
-
Want to see DISTRICT 9 on Tuesday? 300 random names will be selected from the first 4000 responses received.
I am positive if this was mentioned, we wouldn't be discussing this. -
And I'm disappointed. But part of the fun of a contest is the uncertainry. Folks, if it's free, the man has the right to run his contest however he wants. And as for those who watched like hawks, came back several times during the day and so forth, I have three words...
Get A Life. -
Is there going to even be a Seattle screening now?
-
You wouldn't think Gore would need to go to an AICN free screening to see this.
-
Surprising number of industry pple, you guys are right.
-
"3) I've overbooked just a little to make sure we get a full house. If you are on the list and don't make it into the screening, you will get VIP seating at the next AICN event."
How often does AICN really have anything here in Los Angeles? It should say "...VIP seating at the next AICN event years from now AND ONLY if my friends don't want to go". -
... that the whole celebrity thing is probably just the price you pay for having one of these things in LA.
What WILL make for true comedy gold, however, is when some poor talk-backer who got selected shows up over an hour early only to be bumped from his seat at the last second by the likes of John Gulager strolling in late. My guess is that this is the reason why they're throwing out not only a replacement screening, but "VIP" entry. Because you know this will happen at least once. -
really people, it's just a screening, not a social injustice. I didn't get in and I sent an email before the 3rd talkback post was up on the initial post. there are no posted rules on how these are run, there are no constitutional amendments addressing fairness in geek screenings. I'm sure that even though you will lose a little geek cred with your geek buddies because you had to wait until the theatrical release date to see this, that somehow the Earth will still manage to rotate on its axis get over it

I can say whatever the fuck I want, including goofing on people who are acting like LITTLE BITCHES because they didn't get into a free screening. I'm in no way defending beaks, he can defend himself if he feels he needs to. but to moan on about "the rules were changed" when there are no posted rules is just retarded.
-
Beaks should ask all those that feeled slighted to send their names again with an offer of a future screening......and then black list those MFs. Who wants to share a theatre with these characters. Let them watch their movies on their blu ray in their mother's basement. Society thanks you for staying out of our way.
Ungrateful SOBs. Your forum posts show that you never deserved the tickets in the first place.
I am just sharing how I feel, right Pantera777? -
those who BITCH or those who feel the need to BITCH about THEM? There is no first amendment issue HERE, it's Harry's site, he can come in and delete the whole thread if he wants.
You CAN, however, say and write what you feel, because it's allowed, I'm just saying that it's sillier to say the SAME thing about the people who feel they've been slighted, that others have said. Come up with something new, for god's sake. -
I predict that the Anti-Bitching Bitchers will continue. case in point, look at the responses below. (Looking into the future.)
-
... we should have the ability to discuss this without:
A - Treating Beaks like he's the second coming of Hitler, which causes any legitimate concerns about the way it was handled to be lost.
B - Constantly resorting to saying people who have concerns are whiny and nerds while peppering each sentence with as many exclamation points as possible and gratuitous use of the word fuck.
The purpose of the talk-back is to discuss these things with each other. If that can't happen, Harry should just shut it all down.
P.S. - For those who keep using the whole "nerd" and "living in your mother's basement" thing... we are ALL posting in a talk-back on Aint It Cool News... I'd say that automatically puts us on a level playing field when it comes to the whole nerd thing. -

I'm not bitching, I'm goofing- there's a difference.
by irrelevntelefant
-
as in "you fucking nerd", "you fucking whiny nerd", "fuck you, you whiny, bitch little nerd" context people, context. (for the record, I am a geek, not a nerd)
-
... your third to the last post best, irrelevntelefant.
-
Seriously people. Even when you pay for admission to that theater it's next to fucking impossible to get in the first night. It's one free screening. Get over it. My names not on the list either. Boo fuckin hoo. There's only how many million people in LA? Not too mention all the douche bags bitching that their names are not on the list who have no intention of going because their moms won't drive them.

I think it's sillier to play the kumbya "can't we all get along"
by irrelevntelefant
the joy in these talkbacks is in the opposing viewpoints I suppose you also support not keeping score in little league so everyone feels like "a winner"
-
... if spouting the same tired t-shirt worthy rhetoric makes you feel better, then knock yourself out, brother. :)
-
I think you're on to something! Business partners?
-
I suppose you also support not keeping score in little league so everyone feels like "a winner"
My buddies kids team had their asses handed to them every game this year. They knew they sucked but it was an excuse for a sick laugh and the kids knew it. When a kid would actually make contact it was like they won the World Series, even if he didn't get on base! They even had problems getting some kids to come to games because the kids/parents couldn't stand to loose so bad. But hey they still got a trophy at the end of the year? -
Damn? Maybe AICN did jip us all. The kids ball team at least got windbreakers.
-
... an "I missed the LA District 9 Screening" windbreaker would be freakin' sweet.

the funny thing is, let any one of the complainers run
by irrelevntelefant
their own screening and they'll fill the room with not only their friends, but also with their new "industry friends" who make them offers of future "cool stuff" of course about 30-40 of those seats would also be filled by local strippers who have been "supported" in their collegiate pursuits by the aformentioned nerdy complainer. also, gots to invites moms (since it's her basement she let them convert into their "secret lair")
-
Pantera777 will be hosting a group counseling session entitled "I'm a whiny nerd who didn't make the cut, but that's ok" Hawaiian Punch and oreo's will be provided. Nerd credentials will be checked at the door, no posers!
-
Just leave the title space blank on t-shrits etc... so we can add whatever film screening in the future.
I still have an Underworld shirt. It's black and says "Underworld" across the front in small letters. What a score that was. The only reason I know I have it because I just washed my car with it. -
He couldn't resist. You give a "geek" an argument counter to his own, then he makes it personal. In his case it took him a few posts to get riled up. Case closed.
-
everyone else.
-
this is just geek on geek shit talk.
-
... I hear. USA! USA!
-
I guess that settles everything. (this is where sarcastic font would really come in handy)
-
it's like street cred, only not as life threatening
-
... lockesbrokenleg's Subject heading = teh win
-
You're pretty much guaranteed a good geek crowd if you got into this screening. Not so much when/if you see it opening night. Makes a big difference.
-

I saw Return of the King two weeks before it came out
by lockesbrokenleg
So ahhahh!
-
"good geek crowd"? the only difference it makes is there are less women in the audience, and more XXXL comic-con "flynn lives" t-shirts in the crowd.
-
You are so fucking cool! I am the Cameron to your Ferris!
-
bucks to get it, but I did get to talk to the producer of all three movies.
-
My roommate and I got to go see the TRICK R TREAT screening, and really fell in love with it. So of course, we submitted our names right away, and of course, we were disappointed we didn't get picked for this screening in particular (we live in walking distance of the Arclight, and I work two blocks from the theater itself). But all WE had to do was send an email. YOU had to set it up with Arclight, sift through the emails, get the print to arrive, set up any Q & A that might happen, get the guest list up and running, and a bunch of other hassles we don't even know about. So thanks for the opportunity in the first place - I only wish that Arclight had given you two theaters instead of one. My only suggestion is that you take all the feedback - negative and positive, relevant and irrelevant - and apply it to your next L.A. screening. You'll never satisfy everyone, but hey - at least you could say you tried. :)
Have fun at the screening - wish we could be there, but c'est la vie.... I'll just have to pay for it on Friday. -
HeadGeek - never written directly to you, but I've loved AICN for years, and in the past even wrote a few reviews when I had the time. So please, if you can, bear a question from someone who's never had to plan any screening or event like this in his entire life. My question: was this Beaks' first screening or event? No problem if it was, and of course, I assume that Beaks only wanted to run the best screening possible. AND I agree that if a person sets up a screening, he/she should have the AICN veto/control on how its' set up. But if this was his first time, and considering how many fans and how much influence your site has now... are there any processes set up with AICN in which event 'newcomers' can work with the event 'veterans' to try and avoid any kinks in the planning? Where the veteran can have a few one-one-ones with the organizer down, find out the organizer's plans and how he/she was planning on running it, and offer notes on anticipated problem areas or missed opportunities? For the better good of geeks everywhere? Perhaps this is already done to some degree, each newer contributor had a 'sponsor' they can go to when they're in trouble, then at least the AICN staffers would have more accountability. Logically, you can never plan for everything - even Capone owned up to a foul-up for PONYO, and he's been around for years. All I was suggesting was a little more guidance from the involved veterans on the site to try to ensure as little speedbumps as possible for the geeks and fans.
-
Or perhaps - even a venue or dedicated 'talkback' where suggestions or comments that aren't spiteful or sarcastic could be delivered and responded to. The only reason anyone gets upset is because we're just as excited to see this (or any movie) as anyone else. Many talkbackers may not be as articulate or thoughtful as others... but we're all 100% pure geek. All of you AICN staffers created the site, run its' content, and its' ancillary events... but to many of us, this is as much our site as it is yours... and it'd go a long way to appeasing your truly devoted if we knew that our voices count for something too... thanks for letting us vent. I hope this doesn't get lost in all the shuffle...
-
except for the part about sarcastic comments not being responded to. Who's to say a legitimate question can't be asked in a sarcastic, insulting tone? just because my voice is often demeaning in tone and word, able to stir violent emotions in those who give reach around to goats, does that mean I don't matter cause i broke a few rules (clears throat) The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests; we did. But you can't hold a whole talkbalk responsible for the behavior of a few sick, perverted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, HaGreg! Isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do what you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you bad-mouth the United States of America! Gentlemen!
-
...I should have used the phrases 'heartfelt' and 'well-meaning' and 'not insulting'.....
-
I'm going to show up to the screening and say I'm one of the names above. I suggest others who were "passed over" show up and do the same...
-
The ladies call me John.
-
Does it really matter how many people sent in responses? If 4,000 sen the m in late, then the last 3,700 should be rejected. Changing parameters of a screening because of demands is a little on the ridiculous end.
-
See you all tonight this should be fantastic! The super bowl of the movie season kicks off tonight @ 8!!
-
Most if not all of us have been to screenings they are each and every one a total mess, the organizers have no idea what they are doing and aren't paid enough to really care, so here is what i want you to do show up show up as early as you can and just own the place, i can assure you that the majority of you whether your on the list or not will get in us BS names etc.... Yea i've done this on more then one occasion. and am doing it tonight oh yea I'm going to use anonymous_bitch's name because that troll should not be watching this movie. who's with me!!
-
My god, you are sad, pathetic individuals. Nobody owes you anything and your sorry attempts to co-opt someone else's name, thereby screwing them over, reveal what douchebags you are, whether you are successful or not. Do us all a favor and shoot each other in the head...we'll all be better off with two less of you spiteful, bitter freeloaders around.
-
So, I didn't get into the screening in LA. Damn you, Beeks! I'm going to see The Hurt Locker tomorrow in SF. I just got my 2-for-1 movie tickets through some site called flicketz.com Anyone else heard of it. I signed up last year after a screening of The Wrester.

Be warned Troll lady is the projectionist tonight at the arcligh
by capnjake
i was just left the arclight 20 mins ago from seeing another movie,
beaks better hope karma doesnt strike back The projectionist there tonight is that nasty troll lady, it sure would be something if the hard drive on the projector crashes durring the L.A. Screening or if it is a print that it brain wraps and gets thrown into a big pile on the floor. so the stupid troll lady can spend 5 hours trying to fix it cause she doesnt know what the heck she is doing. really someone needs to get that troll a new pair of glasses also cause when she works the movies are out of focus 9 times out of ten and its a crap shoot if its been spliced togeather correctly -
Just got back from the Screening....Fantastic movie. Lived up and even surpassed my expectations! Thank you!
-
Loved the film tonight. Wish I knew the answer to the trivia tonight, but no worries.
All I can say is give Bloomkamp back Halo, on his own terms. -
Was great, and I loved the movie, so no thanks a bunch. A.I.D.S!
-
Er... so thanks a bunch.
-
saw it tonight at the screening and it just felt too unrealistic at first impression.. the beginning reminded me of borat because of how absurd the setting was and everyone's accents. the rest of it was like watching a grittier starship troopers or a video game (halo) meets the fly. some nice twists and turns tho, they kind of left a lot of stuff hanging in the air at the end, probably a sequel setup? maybe it will grow on me.
-
Thanks again Beaks was a great day for film in Hollywood, drove up from Irvine early due to traffic concerns and turned out there was none. I Was able to see 500 Days Of Summer before District 9 and have to say I think that was the better film and was not expecting that. Loved the last hour of District 9 though human goo on the camara lens and utter alien chao can't be a bad thing right? On a final note the powers that be need to give Neil back the Halo francise, unless they don't like making stacks of money. Thanks again Beaks!
-
My girlfriend and I loved it. Very engaging stuff, and much different than I was expecting. The movie almost had a "going to nominated for numerous Academy Awards" feel to it...
-
Mr. Beaks, you are the man! Thanks for the screening of this effin great film. My thoughts were provoked, my sensibilities were revolted, my teeth were clenched and my ass was on the edge of my seat! Is this the messiah of sci fi films? I think not. Is it perfect, again, I think not. Some plot holes and a second act that falls prey to the action hero complex keep it from being a truly upper echelon film. However, I think Neil dug deep and swung for the fence, and he hit a SOLID home run, just not quite a grand slam. But a first time feature length director hitting the sweet spot with a sci fi / action film on a $30 million budget is an AMAZING feat. If I was Spielberg, I’d have two names on my short list for directing Halo, Neil (there is do doubt after seeing D-9 why Peter Jackson selected Neil in his ill fated Halo try) or Carl Erik Rinsch (whom Ridley Scott had in mind to help the upcoming Alien prequel, check out his commercial’s here… http://www.slashfilm.com/2009/05/27/the-commercials-of-carl-erik-rinsch/ ). Come on Steve, don’t let anyone else touch Halo, for the love of GOD! And, I would be remiss not to mention Sharlto Copley, who’s OUTSTANDING performance took what could have been a good, fun sci fi film and turned it into a riveting, great sci fi film. Go see it. It’s not perfect, but it’s head and shoulders above the normal sci fi stuff hitting the screens as of late.

It dawned on me that I used a few baseball terms in my mini review, and I may need to convert those terms into regular terms for a few of the AICN regulars…
1) Home Run… A home run (or homer) is a base hit in which the batter is able to circle all the bases, ending at home plate and scoring a run himself.
2)Swung for the fence… Try to hit a home run.
3)Grand Slam - Home run hit with the bases loaded.
Please go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_baseball_jargon if you need further clarification! (Sorry, couldn’t resist the temptation, there were some “special” folks in line yesterday!).

…was seeing Quentin Tarantino having dinner at the Arclight Café when my buddy and I were two booths down just discussing Pulp Fiction. Very serendipitous.
-
sitting behind us walked out of the movie because it was too violent for them. Thought that was amusing.
-
I love the Arclight, more than when it was just the Cineramadome. The screening was fantastic. I have told both my sons they will enjoy it (each for their own reasons). My wife and I discussed the film all the way back to San Clemente, so obviously, there was a good bit of meat to the script and it was a very good film. Your Cannon Films T-shirt reminded me of the Golan-Globus Puss 'N Boots with Christopher Walken. You might try a Golan-Globus Movie a Day review for a while. See if you can sit thru The Big Apple.
-
I thought it was a little too much of a spectacle movie. The story was thin.
-
Random doesnt mean give out most of the tickets to your buddies and to talent you are trying to suck up to,then give the remaining to only about 100 or so readers of the site
-
Fuck you Beaks.
