Toronto Star: Original Cast Members Returning To FUTURAMA!!
I am – Hercules!!
Good news, everyone!
The Toronto Star’s Rob Salem is reporting exclusively that key members of the “Futurama” cast have signed on to Comedy Central’s new 26-episode order for the series, and that the channel is expected to announce the signings sometime today.
Earlier reports indicated that key cast members, including the ones who voice Zoidberg, Fry, Farsworth, Leela and Bender, had reached an impasse over compensation, and that Fox was seeking different actors to take over those roles.
Find all of Salem’s story on the matter here.

I'm first and this is great news.
-
Well holy daffodills, that is good news, perhaps someone poked them with a finglonger until they agreed.
-
That would have been the perfect headline...
-
so was it a stunt or not?
-
Didn't see that coming, AT ALL.
-
Whoaah-o!
-
Guess this means more "movies"
-
This is great fucking news!!
-
Even with their heads up their asses Fox could hear the fans screaming bloody murder.
-
Now if any network could just decide to hire the writers of Red vs. Blue for a sci-fi series, we'd be in geeky comedy heaven.
-
nobody wants to see one character with the "wrong" sounding voice nevermind nearly all the major characters.
-
The threat of jettisoning their whole stable of actors would have been suicide for the show. It was clearly either a negotiating ploy or a sign of insanity.
-
I feel like dancing!!!
-
...a burning orphanage.
-
If you think burning orphanages are one of the funniest things in a decade.
Which I do. -
..but not Zoidberg! Waaaghh"
-
The article also mentions a "feature film"? What's the dilly on that, yo?
-
great scoop Toronto star, take that american mediaby the way, its cool that the star got this scoop, but the toronto suin is a way better newspaper, less conservative views plus the sunshine girl on the last page
-
for now...
-
The Toronto Sun is a liberal cumrag aimed at the barely literate. It's for brainswished leftist commiefags. The bottom feeding trash of TO.
The Star ain't much better.
Buy the Globe and Mail and oh ya...hope this story is true! -
Who wants to hear a funny-ass joke?
-
I knew you could.
-
Got a little worried for awhile there. Couldn't even imagine what a new cast would sound like.
-
Too bad they couldn't sort this out before ComiCon. That panel was fucking AWKWARD.
-
Not surprising in the least. And I'm just now getting into this show. How the hell did I miss it the first go around?
-
I'm just glad all is as it should be in the universe.
-
Publicity stunt??? Nah... I'm surprised there wasn't a Comicon announcement.
-
I haven't seen any reports on that. I expected them to reveal it was all a hoax or publicity stunt at SDCC, but it sounds like that was not the case? How exactly was it "awkward"?
-
I know the show has it's detractors but I couldn't imagine having to sit through an entire series without the original team, which, my kids being my kids, I would have had to do. Yay.!
-
Is there something that sweet powder won't do? ;)
-
The world can breathe again. This is a great end to a great day. However, it is the first time my facebook page scooped AICN.
-
Seriously, best news I've heard since ComicCon . . . that was a TENSE panel! Matt started right off with it and then said it was an off-limits topic the rest of the time. SO FUCKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW!!!

Farsworth?!!FARNSWORTH!!!!!!! 2hrs and no correction.
by evilwizardglick
Fucking morons!
-
...let me worry about blank.
-
Everyone knew it was a stunt to get everyone's attention.
Nice. -
Will it be funny this time?
-
Seriously, this is good news.
-
it would have been pretty funny to hear the guy who does sponge bob voice fry
-
But not literally, of course, I know these comments are being watched. Nothing personal.
-
Now with the taxes...
-
What was so "tense" and "awkward" about the panel? Were the voice actors there, or what? What went on?
-
they don't change the voice of Morbo it's all good. If they fuck with Morbo I'd have to take a flame-dipped castiron ass-demolishing cudgel to someone. ALL HAIL MORBO!
-
That would have been absolutely painful.
-
Yet another thing lockesbrokenleg doesn't like... who could have possibly seen that coming?
-
Could someone from the black box community please pop in here right quick and clarify this whole "feature film" business?
-
He does all the voices on the show anyways.
-
more future space comedy cartoon for me to get hight too. keep it coming.
-
so is it safe to say the Venture Bros interview didn't go as planned.
-
there was never a a real threat of losing the original voice actors.
-
We all still have Zoidberg!
-
Zooooidberrggggg
-
If only they could fix the writing now, I could actually look forward to this.
-
"...wait, this *is* a good thing."
-
For some reason, the most of the TV shows I watch are involved with Fox productions (Dollhouse, Simpsons, Futurama, 24, Terminator, Prison Break, Family Guy. Or long gone shows like Firefly or X-Files or Arrested Development) and they spend a hell of a lot of time either slashing budgets, threatening to recast actors, moving timeslots, cancelling shows, keeping other shows on the bubble, etc. etc. I'm glad to heaven they got this right, but I wish productions involved with Fox wouldn't be such a fucking roller-coaster behind the scenes. I like the network, I like the production company, because they take a chance on a lot of genre shows and just plain old weird ideas, but they're always this sense of constant fighting with "the suits" that you don't get from other networks, and sometimes it's just like, "FOR THE LUVVA GAWD! PLEASE STOP!!!" but it looks like, once again, it's Good News for Everyone. Which is great, if I had to sit through another 20th Century Fox kerfuffle, then my head may explode. Good network and TV production company, just has a hell of a lot of bullshit that goes along with hit.
-
I love this show.
-
...good. Hate you FOX :)
-
You say "Good news everyone" when it's really terrible news. That's the whole joke. No wonder you think "Funny People" is funny.
-
"One art please!"
-
"they spend a hell of a lot of time either slashing budgets..." "I'm glad to heaven they got this right"
You know they did slash the budget, right? And now that they have to pay the actors more, that means even less money for animation. Don't get me wrong. This is good news. If they must bring Futurama back, it would be a crime to do it without the original cast. I'm just not sure they really need do. Whatever you think of the movies, they did at least provide some closure for the show.
Also, I completely agree with _Palmer_Eldritch. If you're going to use lines from the show, you should get the context right. -
There is a god and his name is Zoidberg.
-
AARROOOOOO!
-
What an honor!!!!

At Comic-Con this past weekend, IGN TV spoke to John DiMaggio ("Bender") about the situation and he told us he was hopeful a deal would be made. Luckily, it looks like his hopes – and the fans – have paid off.
Update: According to sources at 20th Century Fox, Billy West and John DiMaggio have not yet signed, but are close. However, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille are reportedly confirmed to have signed.
Update 2: And now we're completely in the clear! We just got this word from 20th Century Fox: "Just wanted you to know that we now have deals with the entire Futurama voice cast to return: John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Billy West, Tress MacNeille and Katey Sagal."
Futurama creators Matt Groening and David X. Cohen released this statement: "We are thrilled to have our incredible cast back. The call has already gone out to the animators to put the mouths back on the characters." -

-
A Futurama feature was mentioned briefly in another IGN article at http://tv.ign.com/articles/100/1007511p1.html. Doesn't sound like it's anything near term, though.
-
And a Robot!
-
Have the main characters have their voices stolen (to sell in the blackmarket voice trade or something), then have some other notable voice actors stand in (have them use some temp voice device or buy back the wrong voices, etc.).
-
Glad to see it was all negotiation.
-
Presumably, Fox woke up and realized nobody would watch a new FUTURAMA series without the original voice cast. I was thinking this was just a publicity stunt at first, but of all the stunts to pull, having word that the new episodes were going to outright suck with new vocal actors seemed pretty like a pretty fucking stupid way to build buzz.
-
stick to Kevin James movies, buddy. Trying to watch "Futurama" will likely hurt your head.
-

Warning, it contains some future spoilers?
Long and short of it is, the writers and Matt Groening came on, akwardly explained the situation, and then did their best to fill an hour...WITHOUT goofy voices. It was pretty akward. -
I guess I will have to keep my day job as a sex phone operator.Damn.
-
AND HAVE THEM FIGHT THE OLD TREK CAST!!
-
My Saturday just got a lot better.
-
"You got it, mon! In fact, severly reduced pay all around!"
That just came to me and, even though it was written and recorded years ago, it fits perfectly. Fuckin' eerie. Still, good news...everyone. -
Awwww Yeaaahh...
-
10 years ago. a studio wouldnt risk new voices at the risk of losing an audience
-
And Billy West said "Oh noes, I need money! Don't cast someone else! We were just joshin'."
-
Like there was any fucking doubt. If any soul wasted one calorie clenching their ass about this malarky, then prepare to clench your way thin worrying about the next extinction even comet impact heading our way 2012!!!!
-
Wait...what was it again?
-

-
FUCK THOSE CANADIAN BASTARDS!!!
-
...William Shatner will find you and get you!
-
The comic book Wolverine, that is, since the movie Wolverine is apparently an American that up and decided one day that he's Canadian. *SIGH*
-
This whole thing has been bullshit from the start. I can't believe the amount of people who were panicking, and are now wiping their brow saying "thank god". Get a grip and learn when you're being fed crap, so you can one day stop swallowing it so eagerly.
-
But yeah, Canada rules.
-
I knew it was a negotiation strategy, but what the hell. the fact that they went through with recasting is a bit much, but i guess they wanted to play some tapes of people doing the exact same voices to show them how not special they are.
-
http://tiny.cc/jpSWK
What a fucking prick....and I don't mean Oscar. -
be back doing bit voices..? thats the important part
-
Way to rip off a critic of "Harold and Maude"!
-
3 in the morning?
-
"now you've seen it, you can't unsee it" and yeah he already signed on.
-
Can we get a black bar in here with any news from the Futurama camp confirming this confirmation?
-
...or don't read very carefully. The Toronto Star is one of the most liberal mainstream newspapers on the continent. The Sun is a ridiculous right wing rag. Pay attention.
-
...who is obviously living in the wrong country. There are buses to Buffalo every hour; get on one.
-
There was never a dispute - there was never an open call for new castings. The original artists were secured long, long ago.
People are too gullible these days. -
"Fine, go then.""I'll be good..."
-
Hopefully we can relax now, Hollywood Reporter officially confirmed it. Thankfully by someone putting in some overtime on Friday night from the looks of the post time on their site. Everyone's back they say.
-
Best news I've ever heard in the whole of today.
-

-
someone's sure to be killed. Fry...Leila...Bender." "DAMN YOU OLD MAN!'"
-
that show lost its luster a loooooong time ago.
