Bruckheimer jumps into the giant robot sci-fi field with comic adaptation WORLD WAR ROBOT!

Published at:  Jul 31, 2009 12:05:07 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Jerry Bruckheimer does epic good as the masses would probably say and they're not wrong. Looks like he's tired of McG and Bay getting all the giant robot summer fun as he's scooped up the rights to IDW's WORLD WAR ROBOT by Ashley Wood, according to Variety.

WORLD WAR ROBOT seems to be what most of us wanted out of TERMINATOR: SALVATION... a dwindling human population waging war against the machines and not just on Earth, but on the Moon and Mars.

Okay, that's kinda cool. Next trip to Austin Books I'm gonna have to pick up a copy. Thoughts?

which, with all due respect to mr bruckheimer, will probably be the most engrossing war movie since saving private ryan, no matter how awesomely orgasmicly cool the prospect of a 3-front war with robots.
Cheers though, I can't help but be intrigued at this point, and I'm going to have to track down the source materiels, cause that does sound exactly what I wanted T4 to be.

    Terminator Salvation

    by hagceli

was wayyyyy better than Mostow's bland and boring T3 which came across as a pedestrian rehash of the first two films. Salvation certainly isn't a perfect film, but at least the powers that be had the balls to try a new storytelling angle. The script had some nice twists and took its characterizations and philosophy a lot more serious than I expected. Plus, McG's directing wasn't half as bad - and I really don't like any of his other films - but I'd pick him over Bay anytime. Although Salvation doesn't reach the heights of T and T2, it's certainly a better film than most of the sensationally stupid drivel (Transformers 2) that's clogging screens this summer. (I bet the movie summer of 2009 is one we'll all soon want to forget.)

No, T:S fucking sucked, if you have any taste that is

    by bullet3

I don't see how anyone who was a fan of the original movies could watch that and think it was a good movie. It completley manages to destroy the end-of-the-world atmosphere that cameron was able to pull off on like 1/25th the budget. It makes skynet seem incompetent and unscary. Not to mention how horribly it fails just as a movie on its own. There's no character arc, the robot's plan doesn't make any sense at all, everything is edited very abruptly, making it feel like it wasn't planned out at all, or got cut to shit later, oh yeah, it doesn't even show the fucking terminator war MCG kept promising.
Worst of all, the story is utterly pointless, nothing of note is accomplished or happens, there is no reason to tell that story. Honestly, you could teach an entire film course on all the ways that movie is a disaster.

Count me in for a MechWarrior/BattleTech movie!

    by lv_426

That would be great. Transformers is fun and all, but I would love to see a more realistically drawn robot war series. Hell, give it something along the lines of the re-imaged BSG treatment as a gritty Sci-Fi (sorry, SyFy) TV series. If not BattleTech, then the mecha war game Armored Core For Answer has a basic premise and robot design style that would be freaking amazing for a giant robot movie. As for giant robots becoming the next fad, I wouldn't be surprised. Kinda sucks for me (as an aspiring screenwriter of sci-fi/fantasy films) and my giant robot movie trilogy that I've been working on over the last two years. I don't think I'd have much of a chance with Hollywood just adapting comics and anime mecha stories.
