Bruckheimer jumps into the giant robot sci-fi field with comic adaptation WORLD WAR ROBOT!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Jerry Bruckheimer does epic good as the masses would probably say and they're not wrong. Looks like he's tired of McG and Bay getting all the giant robot summer fun as he's scooped up the rights to IDW's WORLD WAR ROBOT by Ashley Wood, according to Variety.
WORLD WAR ROBOT seems to be what most of us wanted out of TERMINATOR: SALVATION... a dwindling human population waging war against the machines and not just on Earth, but on the Moon and Mars.
Okay, that's kinda cool. Next trip to Austin Books I'm gonna have to pick up a copy. Thoughts?

Why is that trash can holding a gun?

Bruckheimer + robots = Masterpeice

which, with all due respect to mr bruckheimer, will probably be the most engrossing war movie since saving private ryan, no matter how awesomely orgasmicly cool the prospect of a 3-front war with robots.
Cheers though, I can't help but be intrigued at this point, and I'm going to have to track down the source materiels, cause that does sound exactly what I wanted T4 to be. -
The director matters, but Bruckheimer has a good instinct with material vs filmmaker. We shall see.

There's a title for ya.

Third times a charm.

EXPECT THE NEXT 10-15 YEARS TO BE FULL OF MECHA MOVIES, WITH MOST OF THEM BEING MADE OF THE SHIT OF A THOUSAND ENRAGED CHIMPANZEES.
-
to heck with all these small time stories...let's go to the year 3015 and tell a Battletech story!
-
Giant robots... Moon/Mars battles... Rebel resistance... All of them equal TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION!!! But seriously, this sounds like it could be cool if brought to life by a director who is passionate about the material, which is pretty unlikely.
-
I mean what the fuck. How many more billions do SpielBay have to make before everyone else realizes that robo-porn is a guaranteed seller. If if it's shit like ROTF.
-
Wood rocks as an artist, but there is ZERO chance his style will translate to film.
-
This is getting ridiculous. Although robot warfare on the moon and mars would be worth a look.
-
Maschinen Krieger (ZBV3000, SF3D) by Kow Yokoyama. Ashley Wood even personally closes down any thread that mentions Ma.K on his site because the asshole doesn't want anyone to find out that he's a complete hack who can't fart an original idea. Sure, he's a talented artist but a hack nonetheless.

Can't Hollywood do anyhthing other than a gimmick???

But I hope not. I'm still trying to get my zombie project off the ground.

than spielberg. for once, i'm actually rooting for bruckheimer to outdo the bayformers. after indy 4 and the bayformers, and how successful those crapfest are at the box office, i'd do my heart good to see spielberg outdone.

A post-show blow job and some cutesy giggles like in that fucking STAR TREK abomination (that SALVATION has nearly caught up to, thanks to better taste in movies outside the US)?
STAR TREK...$379 million
SALVATION...$361 million
Har de har fucking har... -
one lousy giant robot done for the trailers and stupidest story told with zero acting involved.
-
... he'd never get work.
-
was wayyyyy better than Mostow's bland and boring T3 which came across as a pedestrian rehash of the first two films. Salvation certainly isn't a perfect film, but at least the powers that be had the balls to try a new storytelling angle. The script had some nice twists and took its characterizations and philosophy a lot more serious than I expected. Plus, McG's directing wasn't half as bad - and I really don't like any of his other films - but I'd pick him over Bay anytime. Although Salvation doesn't reach the heights of T and T2, it's certainly a better film than most of the sensationally stupid drivel (Transformers 2) that's clogging screens this summer. (I bet the movie summer of 2009 is one we'll all soon want to forget.)
-
what we need is NOT: MORE FUCKIN' ROBOTS!!!! Stop it already.
-
Maybe he wanted more than mere mediocrity followed by a ridiculously awful third act. Most people get turned off when a film lacks suspense, intrigue, subtext, character and overall substance.

Your zombie project might be safe. One of Wood's other books is "Zombies vs Robots vs Amazons", so if this one does well....
-
Giant robots gotta eat.
-
Well, if this is truely the start of a giant robot movie fad, then I'd like a new Robot Jox film. Complete with stop-motion animated robots. Forget about Terminator, they messed that up so much with Salvation, I hope that they never make another one.
-
Listen up haters...TS kicked the shit outta T3...I've read your posts for months and it's time for me to step in and say your a bunch of wankers...Hey guess what not every movie can be "The Godfather"...So if your wondering I loved Star Trek, TS, and Transformers 2...Good times were had at all three flicks and that's what counts...By the way Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow are the tits as well...Later d-bags.

I don't see how anyone who was a fan of the original movies could watch that and think it was a good movie. It completley manages to destroy the end-of-the-world atmosphere that cameron was able to pull off on like 1/25th the budget. It makes skynet seem incompetent and unscary. Not to mention how horribly it fails just as a movie on its own. There's no character arc, the robot's plan doesn't make any sense at all, everything is edited very abruptly, making it feel like it wasn't planned out at all, or got cut to shit later, oh yeah, it doesn't even show the fucking terminator war MCG kept promising.
Worst of all, the story is utterly pointless, nothing of note is accomplished or happens, there is no reason to tell that story. Honestly, you could teach an entire film course on all the ways that movie is a disaster. -
We need an adaptation of Pat Mill's robot warfest.
Hammerstein vs The Volgs (or another less stereotypical invader)
Back in the 80's they were the coolest robots around. -
Lets get our Ass to MAAaars
-
it was awesome...but then again i was drunk..things go boom
-
But not before Fragging shitloads of Volgs! That could be one gritty and grim story.
-
This talkback is ace
-
So, as far as I'm concerned, its good to go.
-
Not that I'm dying to see it but I was hooked on that show back in college.
-
Fuck off and learn from a real pro: Neil Blomkamp.
Fucking poser. -
Cameo by Eddie Murphy!

That would be great. Transformers is fun and all, but I would love to see a more realistically drawn robot war series. Hell, give it something along the lines of the re-imaged BSG treatment as a gritty Sci-Fi (sorry, SyFy) TV series. If not BattleTech, then the mecha war game Armored Core For Answer has a basic premise and robot design style that would be freaking amazing for a giant robot movie. As for giant robots becoming the next fad, I wouldn't be surprised. Kinda sucks for me (as an aspiring screenwriter of sci-fi/fantasy films) and my giant robot movie trilogy that I've been working on over the last two years. I don't think I'd have much of a chance with Hollywood just adapting comics and anime mecha stories.
-
Just re-make Robot Jox! You know it makes sense...
-
Sorry, repeating myself now. Robots built to act like humans and in a human war that parallels modern warfare would be fucking awesome.
-
unless of course Hollywood managed to fuck it up royally like they did with Dredd...
-
WOULD FUCKING OWN. THATS MY TEN CENTS.
