Seth Meyers: Amy Poehler Coming To SNL THURSDAYS!!

Published at:  Jul 30, 2009 5:54:15 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

SNL head writer and Update anchor Seth Meyers twittered around 4:30 p.m. ET the news that his former co-star will have two Thursday-night jobs on NBC this fall:

Poehler back at the desk for Thursday Updates!

NBC currently plans six half-hour editions of “SNL Thursdays,” shot in New York, this fall. Poehler also returns to Thursdays for the second season of “Parks and Recreation,” which is shot here in Los Angeles.

Ah! Jumping to my email to confirm with “Parks” showrunner Mike Schur, I find this in my box:

EMMY NOMINEE AMY POEHLER TO GUEST-STAR IN FIRST TWO EPISODES OF NBC'S NEW 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE: WEEKEND UPDATE THURSDAY' ON SEPTEMBER 17 AND 24

Episodes Will Lead into Season Premiere of Poehler's Returning Comedy "Parks and Recreation"

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - NBC announced that two-time Emmy Award nominee Amy Poehler - star of NBC's returning comedy "Parks and Recreation" - will guest-star on the first two editions of the new fall series "Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday" for its premiere on Thursday, September 17 (8-8:30 p.m. ET) as well as on Thursday, September 24 (8-8:30 p.m. ET).

Poehler - who earlier this month scored her second consecutive Emmy nomination for her performance on "Saturday Night Live" - will reunite with "Saturday Night Live" star Seth Meyers behind the anchor desk that they shared on "SNL." The second-season debut of Poehler's "Parks and Recreation" also will follow that night from 8:30-9 p.m. (ET).

NBC will feature six new episodes of "Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Thursday" skewering today's top stories in live half-hour primetime shows, anchored by the show's signature "Weekend Update" - and the first three will air to start the new fall season. Multiple Emmy winner Lorne Michaels ("Saturday Night Live") is the executive producer.

In "Parks and Recreation," Poehler stars as Leslie Knope, a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. The mockumentary series is from Emmy-winning executive producers Greg Daniels (NBC's "The Office," "King of the Hill") and Michael Schur (NBC's "The Office," "Saturday Night Live").

"Saturday Night Live" is from SNL Studios in association with Broadway Video. The creator and executive producer is Lorne Michaels. Steve Higgins and Marci Klein are producers. Ken Aymong is supervising producer. Seth Meyers is head writer. Don Roy King directs.

    NOOOOOOOOO!

    by thrillho77

She is one of the worst things to ever happen to SNL. It has been so much better not having her around to kill the momentum with one of her loud, wacky characters.

Not to mention that her brand of humor is COMPLETELY wrong for Weekend Update. How is it ignored, how often she had to practically BEG for laughs at some of her worse WU jokes?

    Alec,

    by timahh

last year, the show was a sketch, followed by update. I imagine it will be a similar format, althought it will ultimately fail considering the only reason people tuned in last year, was to see Tina Fey as Palin.

    Reply to Talkback

  • That show had to be the biggest disappointment last year. I couldn't believe Herc actually said it was better than "The Office" in it's first year. Not even close.

Are we certain? Because this was NBC's top rated half-hour this season. Even outdrew "The Office."

    by jimmy_009

Parks and Recreation is so far not that good. It's just hard to figure out why there's a show about the Parks and Recreation department. Just a little too random to sustain a whole series.

Why only 6 episodes? Make it a full-season series!!! I only watch the opening sketch and weekend eupdate on SNL anyway. The rest is just filler (usually)!

    by ackack

Where did this absolute disdain for everything he does come from? The guy simply reports on TV stuff he likes and doesn't report on stuff he doesn't care about. Just because his tastes are different from some of you doesn't mean you have to hate on him as much as you do. Forgive him, he has an opinion. He's like a freakin' human being or something. I really don't get it.

How do you know it hasn't been funny since Buckwheat if you haven't been watching it? Which I infer you haven't given you asked the question: People still watch this shit show? Which, by the way, is totally original. I've never heard that question asked on a SNL talkback on AICN ever. Really, that's like, insanely original.

Well, no shit it got high ratings last year

    by fastcars

There was something called a "national election" and an impression of someone called "Sarah Palin," which propelled SNL to its highest popularity in at least five years, maybe ten. Take away these two things, and what is there? Lame-ass Obama sketches and a solid, if not hilarious, Weekend Update.

Women working in comedy are not really funny at all (sans Joan Rivers). I cannot think of any fuuny ladies at all. I mean c'mon Micheal Jacksons death was much funnier than Amy Poehler and he did not even have to be alive.

    by evilwizardglick

Obviously you don't remember when SNL was the funniest thing on tv.
See what happens is younger generations are sold crap then told it is quality. Younger generations then associate the smell of shit with quality.
Meanwhile people who remember what quality really was wonder why everything stinks like shit.

SNL Thursdays being the most popular 1/2 of the season

    by rob0729

I think that is more of a damnation of the state of NBC and 1/2 sitcoms than a testament to how crappy the ratings for each are across the board. The thing going for SNL-Thursdays last year was the election and Tina Fey's Sarah Palin. They won't have that this year and I expect the ratings to suffer. The SNL mothership always gets a ratings bump in election years.

SNL hasn't been funny for years. I know this is weekend update which is different than the sketches, but it's SNL so I don't think it's good.

Maybe the WU is better with just Meyers, I wouldn't know. And I'm not going to waster a half an hour on Thursdays to find out. The WU was the best when Dennis Miller or Norm McDonald hosted it. Hell even Colin Quinn wasn't bad.
