LAers get a Monster Squad live commentary with Black and Dekker and NYers get a BEST WORST MOVIE/TROLL 2 double-bill!

Published at:  Jul 30, 2009 1:51:53 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. As much as I'd like to say that I'm furious at missing these screenings I can't lie... I'm going to love being back in my own bed, not traveling anywhere... sleeping in, leisurely catching up on my Comic-Con work... watching some DVDs and Blu-Rays... ahhhhh...

BUT. These are both really damn cool screenings.

First up you have Fred Dekker and Shane Black reteaming for the first time to give a live commentary for Monster Squad at the Aero in Santa Monica. That is this Sunday, August 2nd at 7:30pm and will run ya' $10 for non-members. Not bad. CLICK IT HERE TO BUY YOUR TICKETS OR I'LL KICK YOU IN THE NARDS!

A little birdie told me that there may be some special, unannounced guests at this event.

For those on the opposite coast don't worry. You've got something to do as well. You have a double feature of TROLL 2 and the documentary following the progression of the cult fandom of the film screening this Friday (They're clicking here... and then they're going to click me... Oh my Gooooooooooooodddddddd).

If you haven't seen either you owe it to yourself. Director Michael Stephenson (the child star of TROLL 2 no less) will be in attendance and I can vouch not only for the movie, but for his character as well. Michael's one of the nicest dudes on the planet.

So, while New York has Best Worst Movie and Troll 2 and LA has MONSTER SQUAD I'm going to be quietly resting in the middle.

Someone made a movie called "Best Worst Movie"?Because I heard that "The Room" was being acclaimed the best worst movie ever. (How soon they forget "Zyzzyx Road"...)

I haven't seen Monster Squad since I was a kid. I remember my 9 year old self loved the hell out it. Kinda curious how the 28 year old me would like it. Wish I was in LA.

    Monster Squad

    by mr_p

This site seems to go on about his movie excessively so when it was on recently I tried to watch it. What a steaming pile of sh!t, sure as a kid I could imagine me enjoying it but as an adult seeing it for the first time??? I never ever switch a film off before the end but I just couldn't watch it for more than 25 mins as it just irritated the hell out of me.

You just know I gotta ask

    by thepilgrim

It's like OCD or something, and no Fred Dekker, NOTC, or MS Thread will live without my requesting it until some nice Font/Back/Left/Right high def images of it show up on an extended cut of the DVD/BLURAY or AICN.

The Amulet.... Dracula Want's The Amulet!!!! Resting unseen by geek eyes (It's not very visible in the film- trust me I've frame by framed it in all the scenes it shows up) in Quints humble abode. Goonie fans have replicas of the Copperbones the map and the doubloon- Cause, well you could see it. Indy fans got the Staff of Rha headpiece and the fertility idol and so on and so on. Monster Squad fans got nothing but the film and a "Steven King Rules" T-shirt, and it sucks for collector geeks, becuase that amulet was a big part of the damn movie, and sadly that Amulet remains a visual mystery because you don't see it clearly enough in the film.

    Best Worst Movie was fantastic

    by richierich

Watched Best Worst Movie in Toronto during Hot Docs where the director and the guy who plays the dad in Troll 2 answered questions. This movie is a great doc explaining how a shitty movie reaches cult status. The scenes with the original Italian director were hilarious.
