Live in Chicago? Wanna see DISTRICT 9 with a Q&A with the director and star? CONTEST CLOSED!!!

Published at:  Jul 30, 2009 11:43:59 PM CDT

Hey there everyone. Well, the Chicago branch of this contest hasn't even been up for 24 hours, and I feel the need to shut it down immediately. We've officially cracked 500 entries (representing 1000 seat requests), which I believe is a record for Chicago screening contests. Clearly, DISTRICT 9 has struck a curiosity nerve with people just through its fantastic trailers and various web sites. Plus everyone who's seen it (including me) thinks it rocks. I'm going to spend most of my weekend going through these entries, and for those of you who don't win or didn't get a chance to enter, fear not. Very soon, I'll be posting yet another screening contest for an equally great (albeit VERY different) film, which will be showing the day after the DISTRICT 9 showing. Keep your eyes open.

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here.

This is a damn good year for science fiction. First off, MOON is quite simply one of the best movies of the year with a great performance from Sam Rockwell squarely at its center. And now we've got something about as different from MOON as you can get, and it kicks entirely too much ass for me to put into words. I saw the first-ever screening of DISTRICT 9 at Comic-Con last week, and I can tell you that it is quite simply one of the most hardcore, bad-ass experiences I've had in ages. Produced by Peter Jackson and directed by South African first-time feature filmmaker Neill Blomkamp, whatever you may think you know about it from the trailers and other footage you may have caught online, you really have no idea the places this little masterpiece goes and just freakishly wicked the movie gets. And now I'm going to play it for folks in and around Chicago next week.

The exclusive AICN screening of DISTRICT 9 takes place Wednesday, August 5 at 8:00 pm at a theater in downtown Chicago (the exact location will only be given to contest winners). As an added bonus we will have director Neill Blomkamp and the star of the film, Sharlto Copley, on hand after the film for a post-screening Q&A. I got a chance to interview both of these gentlemen at Comic-Con, and they are a total blast to talk to with loads of great stories about the making of DISTRICT 9.

Here's how to secure a pass good for you and one guest: Send me an email at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "FOR HUMANS ONLY!" In the body of the email, I need your Name, whether or not you're bringing a Guest (guests' names are not required), and the answer to the following question (read carefully): What is your favorite alien invasion movie or TV show? I'm looking for a title folks, but you can feel free to justify your choice, just keep your answer BRIEF--75 words or less (no matter how tempted you are to go over the limit).

Winners will receive an email from me over the weekend with all the screening details. Good luck, everyone! Hope to see you there.
