Since they already announced Sylar will be back, I expect them to move on from the Nathan storyline faster then usual. This could be a good sense and yes, they are still creepy carnival folk just look at Fox News.

    by losteroo

Even though these talkbacks will shit on it, it looks better than last year.

Actually I have a feeling this is it for Heroes, but I hope that it goes on for like 3-4 more seasons, good or bad. This is practically the show you love to hate. Hell, even the LOST panel took a crack at it. Heroes talkbacks are just filled with post after post of "cancel this show now plz" or "OMG this show sucks". And most of the time it deserves every bit of the hate it gets, but I'd still like to see it drag on for an uncomfortable amount of time.

by who are you working for

In the last couple of years I've taken in all of 24, The Wire, The Sopranos, Lost, BSG and now on Deadwood... all of them shit on this show by quite a distance, and as Heroes is a big pile of shit already, it leaves a whole load of shit I'm afraid. The fact that you continue to pimp this show has got to be one of the most delusional things I've ever seen. There is no way in hell that season 4 will be any better than the previous two shitstorm seasons. Even my four-year-old turns to me and says, "Jesus, how fucking stupid do they think their viewers ARE, Dad?" And I used to be a fan, too! Some shows are just one-season wonders. Entertainment Weekly takes a big ol' dump on Heroes...

    by pennsydeux

From Marc Bernadin, one of their TV critics: "I look at this trailer and the only person I’m interested in is Robert Knepper’s carnie colony colonel. No one else — Sylar, Nathan and Peter Petrelli, Claire and Noah Bennet, Hiro and Ando — moves the needle in the slightest.

"How did we come to this, a rampant apathy? Are you still invested in Heroes? Does its return fill you with hope that the producers have learned from their past mistakes, or does it have you scanning the listings to see what else will be on Monday nights?"

    Yeah, but...

    by red ned lynch

...Entertainment Weekly mostly tries to find shows to pimp and ride endlessly. It's a cheerleader magazine, and even its reviews (movies a tiny bit less than tv) reflect this. When EW throws in the towel on your show odds are good the show's gone down three times has one eye swollen shut and a bone deep gash over the other and hasn't landed a solid punch in a season and a half.

Cancel this and make X-Men instead

    by vadakinx

Let's face it. Heroes is X-Men rebranded. So why not just license the material from Marvel and make a tv series? Do Fox own all live action rights or just movie rights? If it's the latter then I think an X-Men tv series could be awesome.

If you lose some of the more sci-fi inspired material, such as the Sentinels and just focus on the mutants living in a world that hates and fears them, I think you have the makings of a really good show with over 40 years of comic book stories to be adapted. Imagine the Phoenix Saga actually being given the time and care it needs. Imagine Gambits nightmares about the Morlocks. Wolverines...well, everything.

Do it as mini-arcs. Maybe one story takes 3 episodes, followed by a single episode that focuses on a particular character, then another mini-arc and so on.

Tell me I'm not the only one who thinks an X-Men tv series could be brilliant.

heroes s01 - s04 explained really, really fast

    by ravex

season 1: mostly early x-men, rising stars, a touch of days of the future past, with watchmen for the finale endgame.

season 2: legacy virus, perhaps a bit of JSA, wonder telemundo twins, kristen, miller's wolverine and taskmaster character that actually had the potential to be remotely interesting. and that vanished after the season ended.

season 3: age of apocalypse, civil war/registration act, 4400, the dumbest decision to kill a character in the history of television, bastion/zero tolerance, yo-yo motivation patterns and shitload of my brain cells destroyed, which I'll never get back again.

season 4: (based on the trailer) fatal attractions, possible onslaught, carnival, L word and gods-know-how-many-more of our precious neurons obliterated while we try to make some sense of this clusterfuck.

    by pennsydeux

...now a shell of itself since she left. They've dug themselves so deep a hole that people know that the Claire lesbo thing is just a desperate attempt for ratings that ultimately backfires every time. Rely on Ali Larter at your own risk, Kring. She's had more chances to get it right on here and she still fraks up. And Bryan Fuller wasn't the savior he was made out to be.

    "cancel it already"
    "this show is still on?"
"hasn't been good since season 1"
"I don't watch this shit anymore"
    "Lost is way better"
well fuck off and go watch it then! jesus bleeding christ on the cross, you fucking idiots are beyond pathetic. you know what I hate? anime. I'm sorry, I fucking hate it. it just does nothing for me. so you know what I do, when a talkback about a new anime movie comes out? I DON'T FUCKING GO TO THE TALKBACK, and I sure as HELL don't waste my time dropping nuggets of wisdom like "ANIME SUCKS!!! HAHAHAH" on all the people who love anime. it's not my thing, I don't care for it, but far be it from me to dump on something so many people love.if you don't watch Heroes anymore, goodie for you. fuck off. if you hate it, and STILL watch it, then you have issues and you should address them with your court appointed therapist, not in the talkbacks. if you still watch the show, and warts and all, you still get a kick out of it, then...oh wait, am I the only one left? well, once Pennsy, Ikamono, chrth, and everyone get here, I can talk to them.

    It's too bad about Fuller

    by veritasses

He was the best hope for turning this show around. I wasn't head over heals in love with Pushing Daisies but it's apparent that the man has a creative mind and more importantly, an ability to assemble a good team and produce a quality program week after week. Not an easy feat especially considering the quirky premise.

In contrast, Kring's taken a show with the greatest potential for telling stories and f'd up on execution at E-V-E-R-Y opportunity. It's really mind blowing how he managed to completely butcher that show. It's not everyday that a TV show gets so f'd up that it actually gets viewers angry and pissed off to no end. He clearly doesn't have the creative mind, vision or intelligence for science fiction and he hasn't shown that he has any skill as a storyteller or show runner. Not one bit. Sad, really. This may be the single greatest wasted opportunity ever.

i have never seen a show fall from such great heights to the lows it's in. ironically if they had paid attention to the critcs and and the fans would were saying something needs to be fixed here, they could have made a course correction
so now it's complete shit on nbc time. defend it if you must, and when one day you realise the empoere has no clothes we'll forgive you.

    I loved season one

    by toughguyrizzo

Watched every ep of 2&3. It just fell flat. I wanna like it but it's sad when talkbackers can see thru all the holes and come up with better ideas. Lost is a different kind of show. I may like it better but I think people that don't like lost need everything spelled out.

heroes just is all over the ace. It has no structure anymore. As a superhero fan of all kinds of comics growing up, I feel really insulted with the plot holes and bad continuity and storytelling.

lost let's us use our imaginations. Granted there is a planned finish, but being able to think about ideas and why things are happening is fun.

I remember thinking of marvel storylines like if the hulk bonded with venom. Or dc vs marvel ideas. Gi Joe vs transformers. Reading all the marvel cards, learning all the strengths and powers, etc.

I dont get ANY of that from Heroes. The conversations I have about that show (the few) are usually like, "why aren't they just doing this? How can they forget about that? Haven't they done this already?"

I feel like I'm a smarter superhero fan. Has nothing to do with actually working in a comic book store btw, lol

An off-season one for good measure. ;). I commented on Party Down in a Dollhouse TB. Let's just say that begat the 'Deux' in my screen name. Fairly innocuous, I thought.

Problem is, Kring is the Showrunner Who Cried Wolf; yes, our show is broken, but we'll fix it. Twice, at least. Him calling the real-time viewers of Heroes saps and dipshits endeared him (not) to anyone. They've dug such a steep hole for themselves that the ratings freefall may be irreversible. And it pains me to say this because in season 1 especially, I was on the edge of my seat as they rolled toward Peter v. Sylar at Kirby Plaza.

That preview did NOTHING to excite me. WTF

    by turketron_2

I've seen every episode of this show, and will continue to watch because it's *mildly* entertaining, and my expectations are pretty much as low as they can get now. Hell, I watched all of Prison Break, which even as batshit ridiculous and redundant as it was during its last two season was still MUCH more fun than Heroes has been over the past 2 years. Plus, you had Michael Rappaport's "You're a whore" monologue in the final season that was the most rewind-worthy bit of TV dialogue last season.
The 4 minute preview does NOTHING to excite me though. Robert Knepper's cool, but that speech was boring as hell and there was nothing in there that makes me want to watch Volume 5: Redemption, though I will anyway because it mildly entertains me. BTW, is Mohinder gone from the show now?

You DO realize its a show about people with super powers, right? "Mindless drivel" and "No idea where the characters are going" kinda goes with that territory. It never fails to amaze me how many people demand Oscar-worthy and compelling, emotionally engaging writing out of a TV show that revolves around...super powers. And please, don't try to "educate" me about where the viewers went. It's going to take a lot more than a few thousand boxes across the U.S. to convince me that everybody's left Heroes. Ratings? That's a strawman argument. Some of the best programs ever aired had some of the lowest ratings. Sorry about the Dancing With the Stars crack though - Jon & Kate Plus 8 more your style?

COMPELLING WRITING? ARE YOU SHITTING ME?

    by themarinebiologist

You say that compelling writing can't be done when the subject is super powers?! Have you completely lost your fucking mind?

LOST just did a season based solely on TIME FUCKING TRAVEL. I know that comparing Heroes to LOST has been done to death, but if you assume that science fiction-y aspects couldn't translate to SMART writing, then it is a necessary comparison.

LOST is lauded as having immensely compelling characters and story arcs, yet has aspects of Time Travel, science fiction, and superpowers.

Also, I am amazed at the fact that you would even call out your cry at "ratings" as your own strawman argument. I never said ANYTHING about ratings or "everyone" leaving Heroes. You brought that up yourself... THUS, it is a "strawman argument." You never actually refuted my chief argument against the writers not having a clue what they were doing with the characters nor the Idiot Ball. I know for a fact that is why a lot of the TB-er's above stopped watching the show. That was what I was referring to. I, in no way, brought up America as a whole. Again, your perception of my argument.

I don't know when this term "strawman argument" came into debates, but people usually throw this down... when they themselves are making the argument. I find this very, very funny... Sometimes, I think they are just saying the phrase to make themselves seem intellectual and untouchable in debates.

Guess what? I touched you. Want to step away from your Scarecrow, bueno_bob, and answer my question? Why do you keep watching the show if you know that the show writers make things up as they go along and have no conception of setting things up? Why Sylar's character was RAPED in S3 with the MANY different retcons they instituted? Why the writers basically just decided to reset their powers in Vol 4, because they themselves couldn't keep track of what everyone was capable of doing? Why the writers didn't keep a "bible" to explain who had what power and what it could do (I'm looking at Papa Petrelli taking Peter's powers of Empathy, yet also taking all the powers he had accumulated)?

Right now. No strawmen in sight. Those are the questions I ask and the problems that I have with the show. Explain how the FUCK that makes me a semi-retarded individual who gets off on watching sub-par television like Dancing with the Stars and that Jon and Kate show?

    Stopped watching Heroes when

    by thegoldbergv

Bennett came back from the dead and Mohinder turned into The Fly. Shows need proper characters that can be killed off, this one has neither because the writers have NO IDEA what they are planning towards. Look at BSG, pretty much made up on-the-fly and it still packs more continuity as a whole than half a season of Heroes. How people still watch it is beyond me.

    by ang_lee

I LOVED Carnivale. Please watch it if you've never seen it. Be warned, it's deliberately paced, but worth every second. I looked forward to Carnivale more than anything during it's short 2 season run. I sooo wish they got a third, the payoff would have been epic. But no, instead HBO gives the money to f'in Lisa Kuntbag's garbage show, The Comeback. I hated her before and I hope she never works in hollywood again.

    Biologist...

    by bueno_bob

"You say that compelling writing can't be done when the subject is super powers?! Have you completely lost your fucking mind? "
    - Not really, considering super powers are unrealistic. As such (unrealistic material), I give it far more leeway in the room of 'compelling'. Its popcorn TV, little more. Enjoyable for what it is, unrealistic to expect it to aspire to more.
"LOST just did a season based solely on TIME FUCKING TRAVEL. I know that comparing Heroes to LOST has been done to death"
    - Yep. It has. And therefore, the rest of that debate is a moot point because I like Lost less than you like Heroes.
"Also, I am amazed at the fact that you would even call out your cry at "ratings" as your own strawman argument. I never said ANYTHING about ratings or "everyone" leaving Heroes."
    - Funny, that's the direct impression I got after you started crying about ratings and everybody leaving Heroes, lol.
"You never actually refuted my chief argument against the writers not having a clue what they were doing with the characters nor the Idiot Ball."
    - Because it's a matter of opinion. Yours vs. others. It's a pointless debate that won't be won by either of us. I, for one, don't think the writers are doing all that bad with the characters, just trying different angles to see what resonates with the viewers since they spent so much time online complaining about...well...every direction the story went in...
"I know for a fact that is why a lot of the TB-er's above stopped watching the show. That was what I was referring to."
    - I don't know when this term "strawman argument" came into debates, but people usually throw this down...when they themselves are making the argument. I find this very, very funny...
    - I find it funny that you're the one who USED it and now are trying to shift the table and blame me for it. You brought up the ratings and how many viewers have quit watching - not me. Short attention span, I guess?
"Sometimes, I think they are just saying the phrase to make themselves seem intellectual and untouchable in debates."
    - Nah, I think the words actually speak for themselves.
"Why do you keep watching the show if you know that the show writers make things up as they go along and have no conception of setting things up?"
    - You assume I don't like it? I can identify issues with a program while still being a fan. I'm not unrealistic that way.
"Why Sylar's character was RAPED in S3 with the MANY different retcons they instituted?"
    - Opinion. But I'd venture it's because they're trying to keep fans happy and fans were more than happy to express their displeasure of how his development in season 3 was progressing. They went back in order to please all the 16 year olds whining online, which was a mistake...but only because the 16 year olds continued to whine regardless...
"Why the writers basically just decided to reset their powers in Vol 4, because they themselves couldn't keep track of what everyone was capable of doing?"
    - Opinion. You don't know that's why they did it. I think it introduced a fun new dynamic to it, personally.
"Explain how the FUCK that makes me a semi-retarded individual who gets off on watching sub-par television like Dancing with the Stars and that Jon and Kate show?"
    - I apologize. That was, perhaps, taking it a bit too far. Is it Rock of Love with Bret Michaels then?

    You still don't get it...

    by themarinebiologist

I not once brought up the word "ratings" nor the phrase "strawman argument." Both were your creation, and the fact that you are holding onto that with all your strength is laughable. Yes, strawman argument ties directly with you ASSUMING something about my argument, which you did. I not once stated that "everyone was leaving Heroes." I stated that people were leaving, something far more flexible than you are saying I said.

To say that my argument regarding LOST is moot for the sole reason that it has been stated many times before is by far the most idiotic thing I have ever read. Transformers 2 was terrible because it had no coherent plot and was borderline offensive. This statement has been said to death so... it's moot and we must strike it from the debate. You are a fucking moron.

You played the opinion card like crazy... and yet you strike down any LOST argument like it is no tomorrow. Think before you write next time, and think about READING my argument before ASSUMING anything about it. This leads me to believe that you MUST have confused me for another poster, since no single individual can assume as much as you did about my posts than you have. QUOTE ME ONE of my posts in which I use the words "ratings" or "strawman argument" before you brought them up. I dare you.

And if you state that you are PERFECTLY fine with mindless popcorn shows, then perhaps Rock of Love, Jon and Kate, and Dancing with the Stars IS more your speed. I, on the other hand, enjoy thinking during my shows and calling bullshit when I see something objectionable.

    by bueno_bob

You're going to dare me to quote you on a post? Dare accepted. "People are leaving Heroes", so you said. That phrase ALONE demonstrates to me that your intended meaning was "Not as many people are watching as used to", correct? Which, really, is a thinly veiled swipe on your part at the ratings. Because unless you're ignorant and can't frame a cohesive argument, which I doubt based on your use of words, syntax and delivery, I don't truly believe. I then called it a Strawman argument because ratings are essentially irrelevant to any show and its successes and/or failures. You may as well tell me Britney Spears records legendary music because she "sells a lot". It's the same argument - numbers = success. I'll call you on that every single time and no attempted verbal slight of hand on your part is going to sway me from stating that. You made a mild swipe at Heroes' ratings and anybody with a comprehension level above that of a seventh grader can see right through it. Deny your intent all you like, but its very apparent. And yes, your argument about Lost IS a moot point because they're two different shows and the point has been argued to death already by a plethora of internet nerds like ourselves. You'll not sway me and I'll not sway you, so why bother? Like or dislike of a show comes down to OPINION and OPINIONS are a very personal business. In the short amount of space and time we have in this forum, debating an issue like Lost against Heroes is entirely too time consuming and wordy and the point will be lost before its made on both of our parts; were we in person and had months over beers in the bar, then maybe, but trying to convince me your show is better than mine in this type of forum is infantile. To be precise, YOU are a fucking moron if you think otherwise. And, just to say I one-upped you on that, you can blow me while you're at it. Since you seem to be in a suggestion dispensing mood, allow me to follow your lead and suggest to you that perhaps you should educate yourself on the reality of online debate and what it will accomplish as to what it won't. Of course, I invite you to bring me up to speed on the last five years or so of Lost and prove to me that why I should like it better than Heroes, or for any other show for that matter. Please, if you're so desperate to convince me, go right ahead. I'll let you know what develops. And finally, I'll leave you with this little pearl of insight - reality isn't popcorn. Popcorn = fun. Popcorn = Heroes. Since you don't seem to be aware of that, I made the mild suggestion of some of your alternatives. And of course, if you "call bullshit when you see something objectionable", can you please take a moment to explain WHY YOU WATCH TELEVISION AT ALL??? LMAO! Was that parting phrase intended to be your so-called "moral highground" on the debate or were you just grandstanding to watch yourself grandstand? Well done, in any case - you've accomplished at least one of them! :)

S1 was Fantastic! Kirby Plaza set the stage for S2 to be...

    by chromedome

...all about the Heroes, having found each other in the plaza, to begin working together, understanding what was happening to them, who was conspiring against them, and standing up to it. Enormous potential at the end of S1.Instead, S2 turned into hiding heroes, whimpering sulking heroes doing one stupid thing after another. I couldn't get all the way thru that season, though I tried twice.Did not hear one single thing about S3 that made me want to give it a shot. They should use the time travel element One Last Time: take Hiro back to Kirby Plaza at the end of S1, and START OVER from there--viewers would accept the alternate timeline reboot if there was hope they would do things right. And they should KNOW what NOT to do by now--if they couldn't tell an interesting story after all the "we know it is broken, we will fix it" promises so far, they don't deserve a minute more on the air.Right now this is just paycheck cashing and NBC having no-talent execs who can't recognize good scripted-shows anymore: they couldn't produce a decent scripted show anymore, gave up prime time to Leno.
