The Director Of TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE To Steer Warren Ellis’ RED??

I am – Hercules!!
Another day, another Warren Ellis story.
Robert Schwentke, German director of “Flightplan” (38% positive among “top critics” at Rotten Tomatoes) and “The Time Traveler’s Wife” (due Aug. 14), is talking to Summit Entertainment about helming “Red,” based on Ellis' acclaimed graphic novel.
The story deals with a retired black-ops CIA operative surprised one day by a high-tech assassin determined to kill him.
Bruce Willis is aboard as the main character. Erich & Jon Hoeber (the Kate Beckinsale Antarctica thriller "Whiteout," due in September) penned the screenplay.
I’m excited, I suppose, not because it’s Schwentke, but because the hiring of a director provides more evidence that Ellis’ nutty, uberviolent story is really headed to the big screen.
Summit is the shop behind everything from “Memento” to “American Pie” to “Insomnia,” “Vanilla Sky,” “Wrong Turn,” “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” “The Brothers Grimm,” “The Hottie and the Nottie,” “Happy-Go-Lucky,” “Step Up,” “Once,” “P2,” “In The Valley of Elah,” “Sex Drive,” “Push,” “Knowing” and the “Twilight” saga.

Never thought I'd live to see such a day. What next? Flying pigs raining nukes?

looks so bad. I'm hoping it's cut to make it look like an incredibly shit chick-lit adaptation, but i fear that's what it really might be. Pity, because it was a pretty good book.
-
They found a terrible director for an adaption of by far the worst Ellis graphic novel that will star two actors who are more interested in the paycheck they are going to get than the material. Summit deserves a medal for bagging this level of sheer mediocrity. Bravo, jackasses! Oh, yeah, first.

Haven't seen Flightplan yet, but I love Eierdiebe.

What's the above post?

HOLEE SHIT!!!
-
I thought they had only been around for the last few years...weird that I never knew.
-
Warren Ellis is the new buzz boy. I mean, he is good but he isn't that good. I suppose I am missing something....his stuff is more explosions than story....
-
Ellis seems to have all the sudden popped up in Hollywood for no reason imparticular. Usually you'd see this kind of watershed after one of the guys comics had been adapted in to something popular (ala Miller or Millar). Guy must have gotten a new agent or something, not that I'm complaining, Ellis is a much more solid and worthy candidte to be playing in Hollywood then a lot of other candidates from the comic world, hopefully he and his properties prove he's worth the attention.

I loved The Time Traveler's Wife as a book and the trailer makes me as nervous as NedNederlander up there. I really hope they don't mess it up too terribly. The book has a lot of meaning for me, from a time when I needed meaning very badly. But I guess even if they completely screw it up, I still have the movie in my head. Seriously, I disagree with the simple critique that this book was nothing but "chick lit". And if it was, maybe I should check more of that genre out. I tend to take my sweet time with books, but that one was hard to put down.

It's four pages of set-up and then basically becomes 'Shoot 'Em Up'.

Has Hollywood just woken up to Alan Moore and Garth Ennis and is now hiring anyone who ever had something in 2000AD?I had a letter printed in Tharg's 'Nerve Centre' back in 1987. Tom! Harvey! Come and get me!
-
If he fucks up The Time Traveler's Wife I'm going to be beyond pissed. All the TV spots airing are just recuts of the trailer that made me nervous. I just want something new to soothe my jangled nerves.
-
Think about it like this. Ellis manages to typically put just enough good story and good characters in to make the crazy-assed violence and explosions. That's a monumental step up from the typical explodo-fests we've been getting lately.
-
Re: 'Soothing jangled nerves.'Several pints of Molson Dry usually does it for me...
-
So I am starting to find it suspect. And Flight Plan sucked, save for the beastiality fan Peter Saarsgaard getting punched in the face by Jodie.
-
Time travelers wife is decent read...sad they had to make the movie look like the goddam notebook sequel.
-
Looked like it could be interesting, but now that I know its done by the Flightplan guy, I think I'll wait for VHS.

There is no room for chicky teary eyed emotion here.
This is reserved for teenybopper pasty faced acne riddled geeks beating off to Tricia Helfer news.

Last minute special effects changes, to make del Toro's wolf character walk on four legs rather than two, are cited as the reason for the latest postponement. Let the bitching begin! 10 Bucks says Wolfman runs on walls and ceilings.

Advice taken. You're right. What the motherfuckinghell was I thinking?? Is this where I say stuff like FAIL or PWND? Or is that you? I'm out to go listen to some Finnish metal.

Who thinks the Time Travellers Wife is basically the same storey as Journeyman? Which was a fantastic series cut short!! Ill be honest, I dont know much about The Time Travelers Wife, for all I know Journeyman could be a rip off of it. But they look identical...just sayin'.
-
But if there is something there to claim ripoff, it would, as you suggest, go in the opposite direction as Time Traveler's Wife was published in 2003.
-
Schwentke is a shit director. He's got the gift of the gap (that's why the Hollywood morons hire him), but he stays a shit director
-
Journeyman was a fantastic IDEA, which was then made into a CRAPPY series cut short.
-
all I felt was disgust that they are fucking up a good book

read Transmetropolitan and get back to me.

essentially quantum leap. He even had that guide that followed him around through time, basically telling him what to do. As far as "Red" goes, I got the trade and was pretty underwhelmed. CIA thinks one of its hardest core hitmen has done too much and they don't want to risk him spilling the beans even though he's retired. So they send a hitman to kill him. I also don't remember the hitman sent to kill him being "high tech" (he was just a CIA op). So that new angle must be part of the movie. So he kills the hitman and then takes revenge on the entire CIA headquarters. Not very likely or realistic so I assume they will change that in the movie, unless he just infiltrates the CIA but doesn't kill everyone there! Also heard morgan freeman is in this. People like Samuel L. Jackson, Freeman, and I guess even Willis are too frequently in comic book films and big budgeted flops. Willis I can kind of understand (except the "Surrogates" looks terrible but is a comic) but Freeman and Samuel L. were once hugely respected actors. I guess these comic book movies are the ones that will pay them what they ask but its getting a little ridiculus.
