This STARGATE UNIVERSE Trailer Looks Much Cooler Than Anything We've Seen So Far...
Merrick here...
I've seen this material in Glorious QuickTime and it's really quite handsome; it nicely conveys that this show is designed differently and shot differently than previous STARGATE series.
We don't have the ability to host large video files here on the site - or I'd show it to you in QT, right now. Most aggravating.
I'm working on bringing you a better version. With luck, it'll happen soon. Until then, here's a new look at SyFy's forthcoming STARGATE UNIVERSE series via the embed below. As far as I'm concerned, this is a vast improvement over the teasers and stills we've seen thus far:
-
+ Expand All
-
Is hot
-
I'll give it a shot
-
I'll give it a shot
-
I like it! Looks like they have taken a note from BSGs book and will have somewhat of a darker, more serious show. I don't know about that horrible music they injected at the end of the trailer though...
-
The I basically jerked off to the movie everyday when I was 9 years old. Never bought into any of the series or shows with MacGuyver, I don't know why, but I think I will definitely give this a fair shot this fall. Could be fun
-
Boldly going where an entire franchise has gone before?
-
I might have to watch this, it looks good.
-
Could be the first Stargate I watch since
-
They didn't spend the money on casting then, did they? The effects had better look cool.
-
It does.
-
never, ever say "stargate" and "cool" in the same sentence. it's just the thing dickholster needs to start jerking off...
-
Where's the goofy fun?
-
And then I'll watch it.
-
I had zero interest in stargate until watching this. I will definitely check this out.
-
as I totally believe that Star Wars is embedded enough in our culture that it is normal to reference it in conversation, but I almost feel it is lazy writing to reference other science-fiction shows in a science-fiction show. It almost feels--cheap.
-
Jesus christ man, what happened to you, you look ridiculous.
And fat shooter McGavin as well.
Looks ok I suppose.
Bet the show is NOTHING like that trailer indicates though. -
But...I still think it looks fucking cool.
-
Can't wait.
-
Very cool.
And yes, who is the guy that ate Richard Dean Anderson? -
Hopefully this is as quality as it looks.
-
Between that show, 2 Battlestar Galacticas looking for Earth, and Star Trek: Voyager, I find the idea pretty tired.
-
if they play that crappy "whine rock" all the time in this alternate universe I do NOT want to go there.
also the Hoth reference... weak. -
I loved SG-1 Seasons 1-8, and Atlantis Season 1, but the franchise has been really sucking for the past several years. I'd written this off as a bad BSG clone, but hopefully it'll work on some level...we'll see in October.
-
It looks like a different direction in the franchise, though I am a fan or SG1 and Atlantis' way of doing things. Very much a variation on the adrift at sea theme.
-
but it is still Stargate. So unless the writing is really tight and innovative we can all expect another ten years of Robert Carlye standing in the Canadian wilderness has the backdrop to numerous planets.
-
The images are very clean...clearly an upgrade from the other Stargate shows...and even Galactica? I would guess they are using Red Cameras to achieve this look? Whatever the case, it is very impressive.
-
The ship that they are on cannot be controlled by the crew. Like Galaxy Express 999, which took place on an intergalactic train, it stopped for certain period of time and then left, whether you were ready or not. I hope it's given the chance that it deserves.
-
Rips off BSG and Voyager. What's the point?
-
I thought, "Nice to see Meat Loaf getting some work. Underrated actor, don't see enough of him."
But that was no Meat Loaf. That was McGuyver. -
I'll buy that for a dollar.
-
Looks like they've thrown a sex scene in there for good measure. Then we won't get any more for the entire series run. Btw the Hoth mention is weak. It even felt forced on Lost.
-
that's what they should call it
-
drinks a beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer, then another beer.
Then he cheats on his beer with an ale and a fat hunk of pie. Sweet jesus, he's gone full Brando.
Never go full Brando. -
is they can't control the ship thing. That the ship will move out of range thing. It reminds me of the count down on sliders. And sliders was the worst series of the last 30 years.
The beat the clock trope is one of the worst plot devices in story telling. And having it as a foundation of your series is a good way to make me turn the channel -
Ok so there ain't no Cylons chasing them, but the story looks too much like the newer version of BSG. Cool effects though.
-
I thought it was going to be another BSG up until the last quarter where they showed them exploring different planets. But the Star Wars reference is just a cheap trick to get geeks excited. It would've been as good without it.
-
Come on gang lets make this suits realize that their stupid pop spelling of science fiction...is stupid. Lets all ignore it!
Am I alone with this? Where is Harry!? -
I was so pissed I misspelled!
For you Forrey! -
The future is now.
-
especially in the way it's been shot, which honestly is an improvement, but everything looks like BSG, the only thing they don't have are Cylons.
-
That's a gimme, I've watched everything else Stargate and it's not like competently produced Sci-Fi is exactly all over the place at the moment. I'm certainly hoping that the whole Lost In Space/Voyager thing isn't all it's got, though; hopefully there'll be a more Mysterious Cities of Gold 'what the hell does this thing do' vibe going on.
And PLEASE, no Dungeons and Dragons style 'hey look, here's a way home but we can't use it because xxxxx' stuff. -
Which means I'll probably end up watching it. I don't have a lot of faith in the upcoming "The Plan" tv movie.
-
I seem to remember Sheppard telling Rodney on Atlantis that they were going to call the ship Orion, not Enterprise.
-
You could just tell w/ the effort and actors involved. No way this flops. Who knows what the ceiling is...! But as a huge SG fan, too bad Atlantis had to die :(.
-
Seriously, there´s Robert Carlyle from "28 weeks later" in all his paperthin, unhealthy glory and that dude, that gets eaten by the little girl in the first 5 minutes from "Dawn of the Dead" in it. Maybe this turns out to be "Zombies in Space"???? However, at least a Stargate-serie that don´t look like it´s been shot in your backyard!
-
I might actually watch this show. (which would be a first for any of the Stargate shows) It looks action packed and that it has a sense of humor. (something BSG sorely lacked) Could be good...
-
This show might give you your BSG type show + not so depressive writing. So it may be a perfect balance for a lot of people.
-
yuk yuk yuk
-
Meh. As this is the longest look we've had at it, it stands to reason that it's better than we've seen before. That's a far cry from it actually being worth watching. This rates as "might be worth a look" - but given Sci-Fi's track record on good vs. dreck and their typical treatment of the few good shows they have, I am not getting excited for this. Meh.
-
Just kidding...looks interesting!
-
It was Carter to O'Neill in SG1 - "Sir, we CAN'T call it The Enterprise".
He may be a fat douche now, but RDA was great in the day on SG1, lots of cool gags. -
I remember that now. They recycled the same frickin' joke for Atlantis.
-
BSG showed studios that scifi doesn't need to be filled with fluffy bunnies and excessive rubber masks. THANK CHRIST. Now we can start seeing more gritty/intense scifi shows. This SGU looking to be the first.
I wonder if SG will break Treks record for length always on air? -
at a disadvantage
-
It reminds me of that Stargate 90210 clip that they used in the 200th episode of SG-1.
-
and Flash Gordon, too! Oh wait...
-
Colour me impressed. The last couple of stargate tv series (with the exception of the first one) were pure shite. This one seems to have potential.
-
I'm sure it'll find it's own style in time, but that looks like some bad fusion cooking.
Disclaimer: Not a Stargate fan, so my opinion is mostly irrelevant. -
Count me in!

Did Dickholder...erm, Dioxholster get banned?
by richard_gere_raped_my_gerbil
Is he on here and I've missed him? That tool is always over everything Stargate.
-
does not equal quality.
-
Stargate: Universe looks like a bad rip-off trying desperately to emulate Battlestar Galactica
BSG was itself, RDM raising a middle finger at Berman and Braga, "doing the Voyager concept the way it SHOULD have been done"
The result is that SGU, in poorly ripping off BSG, not only seems like a ripoff but a tired retread of Voyager.
Meanwhile, Skiffy's OTHER big idea "Caprica" is basically the "Star Trek: Enterprise" of BSG: like Enterprise its a shameless attempt to cash in on the franchise by doing a prequel.
And they put *Jane Espenson* in charge; who only joined BSG *after* it won a peabody for season 2, only joining for awful season 3, then *self-proclaimed herself* to be a "fan favorite"......
God help us all. -
The original modern telling of the "I just want to get home" story on sci-fi. Anyone think that the Hoth reference invoked just a little jit of the John Criton "Insert sci-fi reference here"
-
I'm afraid it'll be like every other show: Start with a BANG, rapes your eyeballs, and then the following 20 episodes are shot on a medium-sized soundstage with intimate story lines. Not to say the series won't be any good, it looks very promising, but the pilot of a show this big almost always has a feeling and scale of production ten times what the actual series proper ends up being.
-
Lack of cool never was Stargate's problem in my eye. It's air force guys traveling to other planets, fighting evil aliens in secret. They even gave Russia a stargate for a while. How cooler can you be for a TV show concept. The EVIL GOA'ULD WEAPONS always missed the main characters, but that's the way the SG universe seems to work - the chances of survival are bigger, just like in Star Wars. I like that. Nice escapism. I don't know why people need doom, gloom and angst to make a show cool. As someone said above, this is like making a dark and gritty Flash Gordon.
-
That crashing sound was Dioxholster explosively ejaculating *through* his computer.
-
Where is the QT??
Hosting a 100mb file should not be this hard!

FFS!
-
google dioxholster stargate and you get 4,050 hits. Yikes
-
Fuck it right in the ear.
-
My stepfather watched every goddamn episode, and in every goddamn episode it seemed the Stargate would take them to a backlot in Vancouver. It was truly shitty, the worst kind of stereotypical modern sci-fi. Are they now trying to bite BSG's style?
-
as long as they ditch the cheesy super-camp humor that plagued Atlantis and the last 2/3rds of SG1, I'm in. Looks like they are going back to the movie and Showtime era SG1 style, which is a good thing!
-
but liked the look of this; Bobby Carlyle gotta eat! Go on, get Ken Loach to direct an episode!
-
Or actually, he's gotta eat a little less. Jeez, it's depressing to see him let himself go in his later years.
-
That was really not bad. Will watch the first episode.
-
Merrick thinks this trailer looks much cooler than anything we've seen so far??? Speak for yourself, friend! You are one very easy to please costumer. You ar ethe perfect target for this lazy asses studio people. How more easy can you sale your ass!Fucking shit, standards have died in this place and people are dancing on it's grave. First Jar Jar Abrams Dawson's Trek and now this shit? There's no fucking standards anymore, any shit will do!
-
Really, fuck this bullshit!
-
i like stargate, though i have to admit over the years like smallville its been a guilty pleasure with same old plots and ridiculous storyline, with the once in a while about average story. As a pilot it looks interesting. I'm hoping the ongoing story doesn't become by the numbers stargate fodder, espcially since the team behind the previous stargates are behind this one. i like the new look and feel, the story direction better be different as well.
RDA has put on a bit of weight but looks a whole lot better then half the guys here! -
Has been common in the SF franchise. It is also part of the mythos that the human ability to engage in imagination (and our legacy of speculative fiction) has provided a strength.
One of the strenths of Earthers was that they didn't cower automatically at the alien strength. That humans have effectively been mentally wargaming 'humans v. aliens' in a savage and brutal manner is about all the edge we have.
Some folks were surprised at BSG use of nuclear weapons. The SG teams have been deploying nukes since day one. -
skiffy = siffy quality.
-
Can the movie even provide some half-assed explanation why a fat geek civilian is doing with the theme that travels with the stargate team? Or is that fat fuck that most obnoxious and dumb Holylwood cliched of the "audience identification figure" bulslhit? Certainly he seems to be, like, the comedy releaf of the movie, since, like, he's fat! Fats are so fuckign funny, aren't they? specially the over-reactive ones, right? Fuck's sake! This movie has retard and failure writen all over it. Fucking ass!
-
One big problem with Voyager was that it was hard to have deep story arcs because they were constantly moving to new territory, trying to get home. The only recurring antagonists they could have were inherently lame because they kept chasing them but always failed to succeed. I like the dark mood of SGU, but it's going to have this problem x10, since they don't even control where the ship goes or even when it travels.
-
It looks like shit. I was trying to be optimistic, but no, it's going to be awful...
-
the Ancients ship that they arrive upon appears to have a design that is almost iconic in an 'Enterprise' kind of way.
The Stargate series so far have interesting spacecraft, but very few of them would I be interested in owning a model of.
From the glimpse we get of that ship, I want a model of it to sit in dry-dock next to my Eagle from Space: 1999. -
The same set designs and lighting, and it isn't shot that much differently. It looks cool, but isn't the radical departure I'd heard about...
-
Everyone is saying "Star Trek: Voyager" but I'm thinking more like "Lost In Space". That one guy kind of even looks like Dr. Smith. I hope there's a robot!
-
Just use a torrent to seed it and you won't get hammered:
http://www.bittorrent.com/dna?csrc=splash
-
I counted at least 4 actors in that trailer who have appeared on 24...is stargate trying to spark some sort of credibility with actors from an established good show?
-
my presence is not needed
-
There were numerous references to other Sci-Fi properties in Stargate SG1 and Atlantis.. Sheppard called Ronin Chewie a few times.. I am a huge fan of the Stargate shows, but this new one doesn't appeal to me...
-
Like, 1,000,000% more.
Unfortunately he's probably too expensive for the tight-ass producers. Hopefully he'll at least cameo. -
Although I'm still annoyed that Moffat didn't cast him as the 11th Doctor. Oh well - maybe this series will make him more money. At least this show doesn't look as lame as SG-1 or whatever that other spinoff was called.
-
Have to agree with everyone this looks like a mix of three past shows. Never watched much of the SG shows but I did like the movie.
Again, producers are trying to copy a formula that worked great for another popular show (BSG). I hope they can make this work, since BSG is now done I need my SciFi fix.
I think the producers should give this show a time limit as BSG producers did. Then the show will have a point.
(Never did like Star Trek Voyager or Lost In Space) Voyager was only good when they made it home. They did made it home right !!??
So for SGU producers, plan an ending for the show. Don't leave viewers hanging wondering if they ever make it back. -
The original series was enjoyable in a light way, mostly because of the characters (RDA and Shanks were great). Atlantis was flat, uninspired, with bland characters that weren't helped by a largely dull cast. I liked Shepard, but that was about it, and they pretty much wrote him EXACTLY the same as O'neill from the original show.
It's astonishing to me that they were able to cast actors as talented as Robert Carlyle and Ming Na - that started to grab my interest. . . this trailer is interesting, too. I'm all for giving it a shot. -
And a few babes
(well you gotta write something here *g*) -
Or was it the Mall parking lot?
-
Quick, someone cut him out!!
-
The show's creators have repeatedly said they're NOT going for a BSG feel. They have mentioned LOST and FireFly but that even that wasn't really their goal.
I'll guarantee that after this airs nobody talks about that POS BSG show anymore. I'll also guarantee SGU has 2 things BSG didn't... a sense of humor and a PLOT. -
OH BOY! I LOVE BATTLESTAR GALCTIA STARGATE!!! Yup couldn't come up with anything original I guess. But It look s cool.
-
OH BOY BATTLESTAR GLATICA STARGATE!!!Guess they couldn't come up with an original plot. Looks cool though.
-
and out of place.
-
We are waiting Merrick!
-
what? if he wanted to release it he wouldve already
