Take a trip down the Rabbit Hole with Quint and check out some ALICE IN WONDERLAND props!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Last night I joined a few other online outlets on a journey down the rabbit hole and got a tour of a meticulously organized series of props from Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Apparently Burton himself was hands-on in making sure this was set up right.
First a little background… I was contacted by Disney in the wee hours of the morning (Wednesday) asking if I’d like to take part in something Alice In Wonderland related. Of course. What is it? They would not say.
So we all showed up not knowing a damn thing and got a really awesome tour around a space rented out specifically to house a museum of props from the movie.
I’m not allowed to tell you WHERE this place is, but it’s open if you play some kind of Disney organized scavenger hunt. If you’re at the Con and want your own up close look, I don’t know where to tell you to start, but I’m sure the word will be getting around.
I’m exhausted and have a long day ahead of me, so without any further ado here’s the series of pics. Most are self explanatory, but you’ll see a couple of shots in there that look like hallways or full rooms (red queen’s throne room and white queen’s hall) that are really miniatures that Kraken shot to look like giant rooms. Sweet, huh?
Enjoy!

Pretty neat, right? I’m also told they’ve built up a Flynn’s Arcade that I’m FOR SURE gonna have to hit up. Will bring pics of that when I go. Now for a few hours of sleepy-bye time before the next insane day of Comic-Con.
PS I saw DISTRICT 9 tonight and it is fucking great. Gory, super hard R science fiction… with laser guns that make bodies go boom. It’s the sleeper hit of the summer as far as I’m concerned. I’ll have my review of that up as soon as I can manage it. See you folks in the morning for the epic Warners panel!

I do care if this movie clings (hinges) to the fact that it is 3-D in order for it to work as a film for it to be entertaining.
-
That the only part of this article of interest has nothing to do with the topic.
-
I thought the Red Queen was in the sequel, THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. What's with all the heart shit?
Are they actually trying to do a Hollywood improvisation on an all-time classic? -
As in how... District 9 looks to be the (the bench mark is low) best sci-fi film of the summer (or action film... or sci/action)?I hope it makes up for T4, X-5 (0.1) and Tranyformers 2.
-
I think this is a sequel to both of the books.
-
I've no doubt this movie will be fun, but think of what it could've been...Needs more Boojums.
-
It's a sequel apparently. Alice goes back to wonderland forgetting she's already been there. It amounts to 'make up your own version of the story' really. Like the original isn't good enough... bit of a shame really. No doubt it'll be stunning visually, but it's Tim Burtons film really, not Lewis Carrolls.

If Burton spent as much time on the script as on the props
by mr gorilla
...maybe he'd deliver a good film, like the ones he used to deliver. Edward Scissorhands is a long, long time ago now.
-
"That Jonny Depp, he make'y me cry too."The pop culture relevance of Edward Scissorhands on barbers, due to Seinfeld... sounds like my doctorate thesis.
-
(I HATED so many of his recent films) this does look quite fun. HOWEVER, we have ALWAYS known that Burton delivers great visuals. As such, he is tailor made for teaser trailers. What he's NOT always so strong on is characters, performances, storytelling, pacing, ideas - all those things that he doesn't seem to think are important. I would LOVE to hear what THOSE are like...
-
They always seem to get seriously over-hyped and I get swept up in it, but i was very disappointed by Chocolate Factory and thought Sweeney Todd had its good bits but was overall - mediocre. I'm really hoping this is going to be a classic like Edward Scissorhands or Beetlejuice.

Asshole Depp puts his own photos on the walls in reality...

...and now in movies, too?

What have they ever done but brought gems like Edward Scissorhands and Captain Jack Sparrow to life? Sheesh, you guys are jaded. I can't WAIT for this Alice. So many unsuccessful versions of that dream-novel have come out (including the Disney version) that it's easy to be skeptical...but this really looks great. The White Rabbit sold me. Looks just like he ought to. As for the Cheshire Cat...ahh..okay, that's a bit over the top. Downright scary. I predict nightmares for the little kiddies. Bad bad puddytat. Still, can't wait for this. AND for Pirates 4. Arrrrr.
-
Thats a big Planet Hollywood.
-
Czech version of Alive????
-
Captain Jack Sparrow??? Who's that a gem for? Kids and moms and girls? I fucking hate those movies, though three was my favorite if I had to choose. Sparrow would have been good as a side character in an R rated Pirates movie. Pirates aren't cool when they are being aimed for kids.

God why did i move!!!!! I used to live within 10 minutes of two different five guys. Now I don't think they are even in my state. I do have Steak and Shake nearby though.
-
....makes me want to vomit. The props look typical Burton: excellent, well crafted & incredibly detailed & will be used in an another mediocre Burton movie.
-
...Depp looks so frickin' retarded.
-
"with laser guns that make bodies go boom"... sounds stoopid
-
....as Depp looks. Seriously, look at it, nauseating!
-
from "down the rabbit hole..." being totally fucking worn out in reviews and comments about this movie.
please use the other brain cell from this point forward.

With a gigantic CGI enlarged head just annoyed the shit out of me and I dunno why. It wasn't necessary.

The Disney movie, but with slightly different looking characters. You can't just make the characters look a little odd and act like you've done something amazing.
-
All feel way too manufactured and false. The man is much too in love with his set designs. Haven't purchased a film of his since "sleepy hollow" (aptly titled). Depp, I have no qualms with.

nah, just fuckin' withcha. Just some dress that some woman wears in the movie."
-
but that Mad Hatter is just all wrong. johnny Depp sucks when there is no one around to reign him in
-
Don't mind if I do.
-
...then why do they have the same shit as before? Mad Tea Party, Off With Her Head, Eat Me... IT'S BEEN DONE!
-
One of the faces on those flowers looks exactly like the Davy Jones crew member who is actually stuck to the ship.
-
He wants his face back.
-
Helena Bonham Carter is going to rule this flick (get it...she's the Red Queen, so she'll rule...meh, whatevs).
-
And yes, I'm planning to wear it to a Disney Halloween event. (Not sure if it will be in FL or Tokyo next year....)
-
and by anyone I mean development executives at Disney. By combining elements of "Through the Looking Glass" and ALICE IN WONDERLAND hasn't Disney screwed themselves out of hundreds of millions of $ in sequel money?????? There's nothing left over out of Lewis Carol's universe to form a franchise from. How daring for a heartless money grubbing corporation?
-
The metaphor is from horse-riding.
-
is anything other than a crappy, shallow travesty? Because that's all it is. It is about as far from definitive as it could be.
-
What unnecessary crap.
-
Not a place I would want to visit. Storm clouds looming, never a sunshiney day. And why does Johnny Depp look like a Zombie Carrot Top. The Queen of Hearts looks even creepier, with the cartoony disproportionate body. This whole world seems inconsistent overlystylized. Burton and Artistic merit fails! Corporate Studio Greed wins!
