Merrick here...
Here's the official title treatment for TRON LEGACY (formerly TRON 2.0, TR2N, TRON, and "That New TRON Movie").
EMBIGGEN IT!!!

And here's the production art shown at Comic-Con:

-
But I don't really know what to make of it. Artwork is ok.
-
Sweet.
-
But this doesn't suck.
-
Thought I might have a first on something decent. Here's hoping for A V A T A R.
-
Grr.
-
Am I right or what?
-
Though the "Legacy" font reminds me of Melrose Place (Orig series).
-
But is Syd Mead comming back as concept designer? If so, they got me.
-
judging by its title design.
-
The lame title will not dispirit me.
-
In Tron 2.0, one MacGuffin was the Tron LEGACY code... Could this mean, perhaps, 2.0 is indeed canon with the new movie?
-
They should put it on iTunes, like what was done for Watchmen.
-
I can't for the life of me understand why these Abrams' writers think they have to completely retool something that is already established. This movie better not be about that script that was released about a month ago or I think I will go completely apeshit! Why go through all the trouble of getting Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner to reprise their roles if this gonna be a rehash? I'm just saying...they better not screw this up!
-
that logo in IMAX 3D!
-
All of you haters will be eating your hats when you finally see it. My guess is that it's going to knock everybody's socks off!
-
and the first look it gives at the new game grid and the evolved world of tron... this looks siiiick
-
Critics destroyed it. Yet it's Legacy lives on. Like how I did that. Adding the Legacy there. I mean it became a cult classic. Scarface was the same, hated by critics in 83 and not a big box office hit. Yet today its considered one of Al Pacino's best movies. So even if TRON Legacy is bad. They'll always be someone who likes it.
-
seriously, my pants are wet. <br> Can't wait to start chucking glowing Frisbees at my friends.
-
It's not TRON 2.0 or, worse, TR2N
-
Bring it on!
-
Let's debate the font of Tron 2's title art.
-
I am holding judgment.
-
It indicates it is a sequel in a way more elegant than 2 or 2.0, and, as has been pointed out above me, it references legacy code (the legacy code of TRON as a program), and the legacy of TRON as a film. Brilliant.
-
Tron: Rise of the Ressurection's Evolution
-
Tron 2: Tron
-
...and I can already hear Daft Punk's soundtrack playing behind it.
-
Make it happen!
-
Looks fucking epic.
-
<p>. . . receive a nice Anne Rocquelaure treatment on each of the North-pointing edges of the "N" in the logo. Then, have one of the Tron tanks break through the logo and run over the two. That would get people's mind off the recession at least, have a fine laugh [!]</p>
-
Good job, advertizing guys.
-
I'm jones'n for a update. Maybe we can find out the exact number of dick references there will be in the movie?
-
<p>. . . now your name is just Tron." To borrow from Ice Cube.</p>
-
Tron 2.0 was a video game sequel. It would be foolish to take that name. This movie is supposed to be a father and son movie, so Tron Legacy works just fine.
-
Fuck that band and that music.
-
It was different. The "add some word after the title" method for sequels is getting old.<p>But whatever.
-
Tron and avater. Lisburg and cameron. DPing your ocular nerves.
-
Well, then you better cover your ass because they are providing the soundtrack to this film.

-
Seriously.
-
Those lucky fellows at Comic Con are going to get an eye-ful of 3D jism! Cameron is pumping up back-stage!
-
RIGHT NOW!!! AVATARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
-
<p>Love it. Chapelle: "you a mac, you a Pee CEE? I'M TRON, BITCHES!!!!!!"</P>
-
You're dumb as shit. You can't even spell Ominous right. That's a pretty incredible skill you have - you can tell how good a movie's gonna be based on the logo design. You should probably be employed by all the studios, that could come in handy.
-
probably really raping someone right now.
-
When this film comes out, it will be a HUGE flop. The vast majority of moviegoers don't care about "Tron". It's as memorable as "Scanners". I'm a geek... and it's on the bottom-end of nostalgia for me. Mark my words -- it will flop BIG TIME.

Why is Twitter such a slow piece of shit?
-
And chant your gay ass handle into it until you fall over and fucking die. You're a waste of space. You know it. Your poor parents know it. No one loves you and you will die alone. Now get to it!
-
Now go die with Fah-Cue.
-
The Stormin' Norman of sci-fi cinema returns!
-
Time for your meds, now. In fact, take the whole damn bottle.
-
Goddamn you, Cameron!
-
I tell you to go and die, and you, in return, tell me to go and die. Again, your poor, poor fucking parents. I hope that they're dead.
-
anymore.
-
I have work in the morning and I'm shattered already.
-
Is better than the best single thing your tiny imagination could ever, even given twenty years to take time to blossom, EVER come up with.
-
shoulda waited a couple more decades before making a sequel
-
It's funny how no one gives a shit about the new Tron logo
-
That wasn't his production.
-
That's as generic as the movie is likely to be, sadly.
-
Now THAT's a movie title!
-
Is getting pimped a lot. I thought it was some cheapo horror knock-off.
-
Can't wait for this one. Keep the Comic Con coverage coming!
-
"America wanna see me live, not work. Look at this America, look at how Tron is livin' in the city"
-
<p>. . . that upcoming's just another Transformers 2 in disguise (pardon the pun) and all of you know it.</p> <p>Let the better film be allowed to use "Avatar" . . . "The Last Airbender," OK?</P> <P>"F*&k my eyeballs." Please. THAT good eh, tch.</p>
-
The T and R look like an M.
-
yeah lets look forward to some retarded Shamalamadong movie over James Cameron's return. OK there.
-
Cameron or Shyamalan<P>Hardly a fucking decision. If ANYONE took the latter over Big Jim, I'd be seriously worried for them.
-
http://g4tv.com/comiccon2009/pressconference/20th-century-fox-and-james-cameron-present-avatar/29/ discard the spaces etc and have fun
-
I know your parents aren't dead... because I banged your toothless mother a few minutes ago and your father was begging to give me a rim-job.
-
Gremlins guy made it!
-
Cameron still hasn't arrived on stage yet, I don't think. Things running a bit behind. Maybe he's having trouble getting it up?<p>Scratch that, he's just appeared!
-
"OH MAH GAWD! THAT'S SARK'S MUSIC!"
-
I can't wait for this film. And they used Helvetica (as Mgmax pointed out), the perfect font. I need a t-shirt.
-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
-
I wish I was there.
-
A half hour of footage! Holy crap!
-
Balls!
-
I thought the Legacy subtitle is usually reserved after a few sequels.
-
"this movie is going to be terrible, judging by that title design." Yes, title design is always a useful metric of film quality. *sigh*
-
over the camera you record it with. The lens trick lets the camera record only one view of the 3d movie.
-
3-D at theatre, yawn, so successful. Movie poster reminds me of Battlefield: Earth (we know how successful THAT motha' was; and, the 7+ foot tall creatures supposedly in the "Film whose title 'The Last Airbender' should own instead" to boot [!]). Yeah, big Jim. Near, far, whereever you are. Bet some o' yous sang that in the car, teary-eyed. Yes? No? Methinks yes.
-
Cameron is going to fuck the room. You can see pictures of Cameron on stage and the crowd on Twitter. All communications will be resumed when the audience is basking in their post-coital glow!
-
LOL go back to watching that shite show. Awful anime-wannabe.
-
No live blogging = good.<p> What a horrible thought to be watching a flick (or at least 25 mins worth) and be typing away at the same time.
-
convention center.
-
...gives me a headache.
-
You know there are a few sly fuckers in there taping the screen right now. Beads of sweat running down their faces. Lookin shifty left and right. But they're going for it. Oh yes.
-
I'm feeling all left out...
-
It must, It just has to. The world comes to end otherwise...
-
tee hee
-
It will probably look like shit considering they are screening it in 3D. I really really want to see it badly though, but if it's just some blurry lines then fuck that. They have to release a trailer for this in the summer though. It's ridiculous how silent they've been about the film. I'm saying expect trailer in front of GI Joe. Since it's the last big film of the summer.
-
That was a terrible idea... How about we name the sequel the EXACT SAME TITLE as the first movie? Much better in my opinion.
-
<p>. . . it, uh, it probably just is looking like $#17.</p> <p>I'll watch the thing, near, far, wherever I am. But, "Last Airbender" will end up owning the "Avatar" title.</p>
-
we'll finally get some offical pics or something at least after this, won't we?
-
over the camera lens. uh duh. I hope the geeks there have brain cells.
-
...I don't want to see some shaky, blurred footage with bad audio. I want accurate first impressions. I would rather get some written reviews from our geek brothers on the inside. Crowd reaction, first hand accounts etc. This is so agonizing. I'm all a twitter.
-
...WALKING OUT OF THE THEATER!!! There.
-
A potentially good new sci-fi epic - when was the last time we had one of those?
-
u just described 90% of the talkback community.
-
If some geeks have the guts to film in there (and you know it's going to be tightly marshalled) then they've probably forward planned it... so you'd hope they'd have real D - otherwise they're taking a big risk on being chucked out and humiliated for some unwatchable shit.
-
That bites. :(
-
Ain't It Tron News!
-
A billion nerds with phones and everyone is going to obey the no live blogging rule? LOL... yeah, right.
-
...FOTR. But that's because of the source material. I know little about AVATAR and I am mainly psyched about the combination of Cameron's return, the new application of technology, and yes...a serious minded approach to some hopefully high minded sci fi.

. . . and how bad did THAT motha' tank?
-
So I guess that's the kind of respect they have for him. I can wait a half-hour, then. :)
-
...and I mean EVERYONE...has never heard jack about it. Some guy I was talking to went so far as to say there is some Final Fantasy type animated feature coming out which is going to blow everything away with it's 3D. Little does he know.

"He just happened to be in the neighborhood. I found Johnny wandering around outside dressed as Jack Sparrow, so I invited him to come with me."

A concise review, this. :)

This is like no other movie you have ever seen. It's ambitious, and entirely original, full of digital effects, flawless executed, in an entirely imaginative world

FirstShowing.Net's blogger says it's like seeing Jurassic Park for the first time - on acid.
-
man I have to see some footage! NAOOOOO!
-
Finally. You all wanted something original out of Hollywood. Here it is. And it SOUNDS glorious.
-
Dragons vs. Helicopters is going to be epic. It will more than make up for that piece of shit Bale film, I think it was Reign of Fire?
-
Jurassic Park for the first time on acid! Great description!!
-
we already know about these scenes, they consist the same preview footage which was shown 1or2 months ago. <p>tell us about the FUCKIN 3D CGI FFS,fuck the story,we already know what happens to theses scenes.
-
Fully and totally committed. it's obvious Cameron has not compromised anything here. This is so utterly and completely his vision. And that kind of committment is the source of all great art
-
we'll obviously get better descriptions.
-
I want to know about the CG. To hell with the story and characters. I want to know if the CG is good or not so if it's not I can come on here and bitch about it
-
War. Nature. Righteousness. Justice. It's a big, big movie in all ways, but, again like all Cameron movies, the small moments are there, the details are in place
-
'As for how it is, honestly, it's hard to say... '<p> From the descriptions the four scenes shown seem to be 'build up' scenes rather than out and out climactic moments.<p>
-
A bold, crazy-ass prediction here and now. Avatar will exceed Titanic's $601 million domestic boxoffice.
-
A fan just thanked James Cameron for making a movie that is entirely original, not based on anything and not a remake. I heartily concur. Big ups for the effort, Cameron.
-
July 23, 2009, 6:09 p.m. CST
But will not be able to come close to it's worldwide take...
by TheWaqman
Domestic is nothing.
-
And I know I probably just effed up his screen name. He's been tooting this horn longer than a share of us.
-
And don't forget that Cameron directed 'Titanic', one of the most embarrassing celluloid shitfests of all time. My only beef with the Tron Legacy title design is that the 'legacy' bit starts in the middle of the T in 'Tron' but ends at the end of the N in 'Tron'. Why? Fix that please. Thanks.
-
. . . playing quiet-like in the background while l'questionnes are being taken? Quack-quaaaaaack.
-
Isn't she doing some signing somewhere?
-
Because it doesn't hurt to remind y'all.
-
Titanic had FAR too much going for it in the way of nostalgia and teen heartthrobbery from Leo. You got everyone, ages 5 to 95, into the theater with Titanic.
-
What a fucking asshole
-
still could be poo, but everything sounds positive so far.
-
not even tdk or trans2 or hp6. its too alien/scifi for the majority of the average movie audience. <p>even if people, who arent in fond of scifi genre, will go to see it because of hype and curiosity, they still wont be enough to bring boxoffice records for avatar. <p>its a pity
-
July 23, 2009, 6:15 p.m. CST
I wonder: Does it look like it's really been photographed?
by The_Genteel_Gentile
I mean, does it feel like a film crew traveled to an alien planet and the camera is grounded in physical reality, or is flying all over the place doing impossible shots? How is the camera moves, lenses, depth-of-feild, and shot compositions feel? If at all possible compare it's asthetic to other films.
-
Talkbacks like this make me realize how little I have in common with most of you.
-
Just for you, locke!
-
Go for it you crazy Leo fans!
-
is saying it looks like a terrific CG toon, that it's evolutionary not revolutionary. CGI hate commence!

Why would anyone care if this grosses more than Titanic??
by DoctorWho?
Who gives a shit?<p> The greatest movie of all time BLADE RUNNER bombed at the box office.
-
THE DARK KNIGHT came within 70m of TITANIC's U.S. gross, so it's going to happen. A 200m opening weekend will come sooner than later, and when that happens it'll only take a 3x multiplier to reach 600m, which means decent-to-average word of mouth. It'll happen.
-
I'm getting worried personally...<p> 'a terrifc CG toon' is not what I look for in movies.<p> 'James Cameron says Avatar is meant to make you think while you're enjoying it... That always makes me a little nervous... Early prediction: the thing that could sink this flick would be a pretentious, too-serious tone' This comment comes from a guy who's just seen 25 mins of it. It's not a particularly negative comment - but it's not exactly euphoric either. If this film was AWESOME then you'd think there would be hyperbole and euphoria in abundance, not downbeat realism.
-
Clearly, that's NOT the case, since several blog feeds have stated how the footage looked utterly real, and couldn't be deciphered to be CGI. But then that's the cunt who slated The Dark Knight, isn't it?<p>Goddamn, Avatar is going to be a monster!
-
Like KRS-One's "Edutainment" thing? QUAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCK!
-
That blogger sucked! I learned nothing.<p> I will simply wait for the the geeks on the front line to post the goods.

cool.

Forget the female demographic - all we need is US! So unite the pee-pee in one glorious, unified pee-pee touch of mass destruction! I'm organizing this across sites - on July 31st, at exactly 11:59 Central time, be at your PC with your wank-off material for a mass pee-pee touch! If we succeed, this could put the pee-pee back on the map!
-
The indication of a serious, ambiguous tone is definitely a good thing - we've had too many frivolous and goofy blockbusters recently. I like pop cinema with a bit of weight behind it.

because it has an ala Jar Jar funny scene in it. <p>end of line.
-
I dont care what the guy at Phud thinks.
-
I think the TRON logo would benefit from a slight tapering off of the letter T stem whilst dovetailing into the base of the letter N culminating in a flaired tip at the end...thereby rendering the logo legit.<p> Whatever.
-
Remember that the next time you feel the urge to sass me.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

sad fucking remake. Hollywood has finally run out of ideas. Time to quit the business and get some fuckers in, who actually care about making movies and telling ORIGINAL stories.
-
Turd, i'm hoping for the best with AVATAR - but if there are CGI characters in it then I doubt they look 'utterly real'.<p> We all know how technology progresses. Yes, the CG's gonna look a little more realistic than the films of last year - but only a 'little'. Don't expect miracles. The Navi will look like the Gungans version 2.0 - you will know they are CG, of that I am sure.
-
The Na'vi look like retarded cartoons.... photo realistic my ass

Anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly a complete fucking moron.
-
Don't acta foo.
-
... that people have actually seen AVATAR footage and discovered it has more in common with TINKERBELL IN PIXIE HOLLOW than THE TERMINATOR we can get back to the business of being excited about TRON!
-
Tron 2.0 is a perfect title. I wouldn't care if there's a game with the same name. 2 = Sequel 2 + .0 = related to program versions. Such a perfect F*ck^p End of Line......
-
Someone else points out the "photo-realistic" NA'VI are just Thundercats and look like cartoons. Hooray! About time some good sense and intelligence prevailed.
-
The studio knows what a disaster they've got on their hands with AVATAR, to the point where they're GIVING AWAY 15 MINUTES OF THE MOVIE FOR FREE AT IMAX THEATERS to try -anything- to get people to go see this movie, to talk about it outside the geek circle (there is ZERO buzz about this movie beyond the geek cadre), ANYTHING. They know this is WATCHMEN all over again and that the interest level of the general population is going to be ZERO for the EcoThundercat NonAction Flick.
-
"The studio knows what a disaster they've got on their hands with AVATAR,"<p> Yeah, that's accurate. Complete box office flop.
-
ON TEH G4M3GR1D!!! TEH 3L3CTRO FI3LD OF BATTL3R!! WOOOOOOOT!!!<br><Br>Btw TRON >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> THE MATRIX.
-
It's too good not to use
-
I swear to the nonexistent GOD, if I had the ability to do those video manipulation videos like the ameteurs do on YouTube, I would make one in which a Neo-a-like was jabbering about the singularity of the anamaly of the equation and the keys and the Gatekeepers and the Repairmen and the Matrix and the like ... and then have him suddenly go all arms and legs akimbo and fall forward, dissolving, to reveal Tron standing behind him saying "STFU, beeyotch."
-
Love the guys who comes up with that stuff. Same bullshit we get about Tintin: "not known enough in US of A, will flopp" or the Thor movie. It's that thinking that usually comes from money-hungry coke-snorting producers when they hack together a sequel/prequel or worse, a remake-redux-reimaginagion. With that kinda thinking we can never get an original idea movie, cause "no one knew about it before, so it will flopp".
-
This weird little sequel to a movie that flopped kicks Avatar's ass? Sorry, I just can't stand Cameron.
-
I want to see a trailer first
-
I don't like the look. Too much detail and dimension in the blacks, I like the flatter quality of the original. There's nothing special about this, rather looks like a glowing Terminator 3-esque nightmare. The original had a unique and timeless look, almost mystical. I wish it was better. They can;t get the ligthcycles right. They look too real, too dimensional. What made them cool originally is that they look digital not real.
-
I'm glad they got rid of the two previous titles. They are at least listening to some feedback about this shit. I can't wait. Kevin Flynn lives.
-
I got excited about a movie I still don't know anything about.
-
This is like a week's worth of desktop backgrounds. "TWOn", heh heh heh Morte_Bea_Arthur.
-
Even though the cool thing about the light cycles in the original was that they DIDN'T look like they could exist in the real world.
-
if only they could get Madeline Kahn to do the trailer voiceover
-
WHAT A SHIT BALL
-
Way more cryptic and enigmatic, and let's face it, either way it's going to be an uphill battle educating the public about this picture. Otherwise, it looks pretty good from what is represented here. This is the next big movie.

TRON LEGACY!! CHRISTMAS 2010!!!!
-
So now everything is rendered photorealistically, but has neon tubes stapled to it? Perhaps I'm being naive, but I thought part of the Tron aesthetic was that it was *supposed* to look the way it did. I didn't think "the world inside the computer" was lacking gritty sidewalks and burnished metal because of a problem with EnCom's render farm. Ranting aside, I really want to love this.
-
That's right..Tron and the Dude are going to make Avatar thier fucking cum slut bitch. After all the fan hype, and Cameron hizz bad self, and his Hollywood pals, fluffing everyone's nuts about Avatar, we find out is it basically as revolutionary as a cut scene in a HALO game.</p><p>Tron WAS revolutionary...if somewhat overlooked...and although I was not looking forward to this...I gotta say I'm growing more interested in this new TRON with every new detail released, while the more I hear about AVATAR the less curious I am.
-

So basically they've screwed the pooch on the hype factor so bad
by JackLucas
That they have to resort to renting out theatres to show fifteen minutes in order to get people excited? I know us geeks are all feeling the thing was going to fuck our eyeballs and all of that, but to the general moviegoer... they have NO IDEA what the fuck Avatar is. I asked five people today randomly just to see if the hype that is being felt by fanboys was real and no one that I asked knew a thing about it. Two of them thought I was talking about the Last Airtwister flick.
-
I'm excited for the Tron sequel. Avatar, I'll see, but don't care if I have to wait for it to hit disc.
-
...That the cyberworld evolved?
-
and I need to see it yesterday.

This is what the first tron was gonna look like anyway. THis looks a lot like the concept art for the FIRST movie. The only difference is that we actually have the teh to make it LOOK like that now.
-
WHOA!
-
Or at least Ted DiBiase, Jr. But not Cody Rhodes though, he's gonna be mid card fo' life.
-
Franchise weeps.
-
What needs to be said, needs to be said.
-
First Gawddamn movie to ever be overrated and past its fifteen minutes before the first fucking trailer even debuted.
-
Really. Very nice !
-
Someone had to say it. My only worry wity the new Tron (NEWTRON <- THERE'S a puntastic title, see?) is that it's all very black looking. 21st century SF/fantasy seems to be all about bleeding the colour out of things to make it "dark and moody" or something, like what they did to the XMEN costumes. TRON was the ultimate exercise of RED Vs BLUE and, although I'm jizzing my jodphurs just looking at the logo (and I like the name), I do worry this may end up looking like the Matrix. That is all...
-
Doesn't look THAT neat. Plus, this fucking movie ROBBED ME OF A DAFT PUNK ALBUM IN MAY!
-
Sometimes i have more trust on first time filmmakers then established hacks. The first time filmmakers want to show what they are made of, and they put their fire in their hearts into the movie. Hacks ALWAYS slouch, specially if they have a fat budget (cough*Terminator4*cough/cough*StarTrek*cough).
-
It could rock.
-
The amazing designer Syd Mead designed the original TRON logo. Is he involved with the sequel?
-
I rate that as a good thing.<br><br>Sid Mead was involved in both Tron and Blade Runner (and also in a limited capacity on Star Trek The Motion Picture). How cool is that?
-
I liked the original. It looked like a giant black light was on the entire time. This looks TOO CG, too sterile. Hopefully they will place that filter over it. Maybe on the screen it will look more TRON-like.
-
did you ever saw the making off documentary of the original Tron movie? The amount of effort that went to make that movie was so big, i felt exausted by the end of the making off documentary, i felt like i had done the movie myself. It was the only time a making off documentary made me feel REALLY tired! Wow!

HARRY POT2ER, PIRA2ES OF THE CARRIBEAN, TERMINAT2R: JUDGEMENT DAY, TRANSF2RMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN, BAD B2YS, SUPERM2N, IR2N MAN, BLADE RUNNE2, SPIDER M2N<P> Seriously the person who came up with TR2N should rot in hell. What a freaking tard. Worst trying-2-B-clever marketing EVER. Pathetic tool.
-
Lamerz, the marketing genius u speak of wasn't even original - SE7EN did it years before.<p> There was a Tron video game called Tron 2.0 even that would have been a better title.<p> Would be good if they pulled that marketing prick out at Comic Con, named and shamed him in front of the geeks, and then stuck him in some medieval stocks to be pelted with various bits of half eaten pizza, burger, coke bottles and whatever else the geekoid rabble had to hand.
-
Would probably end up with a bunch of gay geeks wanking over his face and giving him a bukkake makeover.<p> Which would be sick and twisted. But no less than that tard deserves.
-
Did I take it too far?<p> Or not far enough - fuck that TR2N tard!
-
Orcus likes how they took on Syd Meads work. Orcus misses the glow-y touches though
-
Yes it has a bit of Matrix in it but then it's part of the inspiration that brought us the Matrix in the first place. But with Bridges involved and I hope Boxleitner, this has serious ass kicking potential. TRON holds a special place in my heart. The movie, the arcade games, even the crappy Atari console games we're fun....<p>End of line...

It's hard to read unless you already know what it says.
